Tag: What the Bible says about honoring God

Bible Verse of The Day – 4-15-24

Hebrews 9:1 (NLT) 1 That first covenant between God and Israel had regulations for worship and a place of worship here on earth.

Everything in the Old Covenant was based on rules and laws.

Prayers, sacrifices, and worship all had a specific order and a required method by which they must be done.

Priests were required to lead the people and carry out these rituals.

The people depended on the priests for every aspect of their relationship with God.

Today, that is no longer the case.

No more are we required to depend on priests or other men to intercede on our behalf for these things.

When Jesus breathed His last breath and surrendered His spirit, there were several significant things that happened.

One of those things was the tearing of the temple veil from top to bottom.

This veil separated the Holy Place from the Most Holy Place (the Holy of Holies). Only priests who had been specially prepared were allowed to enter the Most Holy Place.

It was in the Holy of Holies that the priests went before God to make the sacrifices required for the remission of the sins of Israel.

After the veil was torn from top to bottom, the barrier that kept people like you and I from going directly to God was gone.

It had been destroyed!

We now have unfettered, direct access to the God who created us and breathed life into our lungs.

His word tells us that we can now go boldly before Him to obtain His mercy and grace.

Hebrews 4:16 (NKJV) 16 Let us therefore come boldly to the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need.

Thank You, Father, for removing the barriers, and for allowing us to approach You directly, without fear of retribution.

In return, let our lives bring honor and glory to you in everything we do.

Bible Verse of The Day – 4-10-24

Colossians 2:6-7 (NKJV) 6 As you therefore have received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk in Him, 7 rooted and built up in Him and established in the faith, as you have been taught, abounding in it with thanksgiving.

These two verses are the “formula” for building a strong walk with God!

In reality, there is no secret formula. But what is stated in the verses above gives us a strong base to work with. But let’s look at a breakdown of these verses.

Walk in Him; learn of Him, put into practice what He taught, and follow the example He set while He was here on earth.

Rooted and built up in Him; taking what we learn in His word and walking it out in practical ways each day.

Established in the faith; maturing as we gain understanding and knowledge, not wavering in our faith.

As you have been taught; showing our faith by example, making it alive in our lives so others can see Jesus in us. By this we glorify God with our lives.

Abounding in it with thanksgiving; the truth of the gospel, and the love of God, flows out of us as people see God transforming us, and we express our gratitude toward Him in all that we do.

Growing as a believer isn’t as difficult as we often make it.

The biggest factor or requirement in all of this is a willing, obedient heart.

We just need to let God touch our heart and make it pliable. Once that happens, so many other things will begin to fall into place in our walk with God.

Bible Verse of The Day – 6-23-23

2 Chronicles 15:15 (NLT) 15 All in Judah were happy about this covenant, for they had entered into it with all their heart. They earnestly sought after God, and they found Him. And the Lord gave them rest from their enemies on every side.

God is a good God.

He honors those who honor Him.

He gives rest and peace to those who earnestly follow Him and His ways.

The verse above states that all of Judah sought Him earnestly, and they found Him.

And God gave them rest from their enemies.

Yes, there may be seasons of chastening when we disobey and drift from Him. This is to be expected.

Why?

Because God is a good Father.

Children need discipline. And fathers who love their children aren’t afraid to chasten them when they need it.

But He also rewards us when we honor and obey Him.

For Judah, they experienced a period of rest from their enemies on all sides.

This was a big deal for them, since Judah was constantly under attack from neighboring nations.

For us, the first “reward” God gives us is salvation in Christ when we repent and accept His gift of redemption.

This is the greatest gift of all.

Not only are our sins forgiven, but our name is written in the Lamb’s book of life, giving us eternal life with Him.

Let us honor Him in all that we do, seeking Him earnestly each day, pursuing Him relentlessly, drawing near to Him, that He might also draw near to us.

James 4:8 (NKJV) 8 Draw near to God and He will draw near to you…

Bible Verse of The Day – 7-9-22

Matthew 11:30 (NKJV) 30 For My yoke is easy and My burden is light.”

Take time to sing and praise Him for His marvelous work.

Take time to be silent and recognize Him for Who He is.

Take time to pray.

The greatest moments in my life have been in these 3 places.

I’ve had such wonderful moments with God when I was just singing and praising Him for Who He is!

There is nothing like it. It’s better than anything we can imagine.

His presence is powerful! He is alive and real and willing to meet us where we are at. He is never too busy for us. And He waits for us to come to Him.

We never have to worry about Him not coming to us. It’s the other way around.

We have to make the effort to push everything else aside and come to Him.

Do we make time? If we don’t, no one will make it for us.

When we spend time with Him, we become stress-free, alive, and full of joy! He takes the weight off us and fills us with His lightness.

Hallelujah!!

Bible Verse of The Day – 10-6-21

1 Kings 11:6 (NKJV) 6 Solomon did evil in the sight of the Lord, and did not fully follow the Lord, as did his father David.

I recently finished reading through the Bible again. When I finished, I pondered on where to start reading afterward. I felt like God prompted me to go back to 1 Kings and then read through 2 Kings, etc.

I needed to learn more and gain a better understanding about the various kings, and what they did that was right or wrong in God’s eyes.

As I’ve been doing that, I have seen this phrase repeated over and over again; “he did evil in the sight of the Lord”.

I saw this phrase relating to the various kings close to 30 times. And it was always for the same reason; they worshipped other gods (idols).

Many times, it was followed by this phrase; “they made Israel sin”.

These particular kings worshiped idols and led the Israelites to do the same.

All of this showed me that God values one thing more than anything else when it comes to our relationship with Him; our loyalty to Him.

Yes, God despises sin overall. So, we need to live and walk righteously before Him.

But the thing He desires most is a loyal heart; a heart after Him, that will honor Him and hold Him above all else.

This is something that shouldn’t be that hard for us to do.

Why? Because when Jesus left this earth, God sent us a Helper; the Holy Spirit, who leads us and guides us, convicting us before we commit a sin, showing us how to avoid that sin.

But sometimes our flesh is strong, and it takes more effort than it should to avoid those sins.

And the world has a way of waving shiny objects in front of us, enticing us to push God aside and run after “other gods”.

Let’s be careful not to let that happen. Let’s honor God in everything we do.

And let’s make a conscious effort not to be one of the people who has that awful phrase attached to their name after we have left this earth; “they did evil in the sight of the Lord”.

God has equipped us to make that possible. Amen!

Bible Verse of The Day – 9-27-21

1 Samuel 17:45 (NKJV) 45 Then David said to the Philistine, “You come to me with a sword, with a spear, and with a javelin. But I come to you in the name of the Lord of hosts, the God of the armies of Israel, whom you have defied.

David’s life was exemplary with regard to honoring God in everything he did.

Throughout his lifetime, he never strayed from God. Nor did he worship any gods other than the one, true God.

Yes, he sinned. He made some poor choices from time to time. But he always honored God and kept Him at the forefront of his life.

It was that quality in David that caused him to excel in everything he did for God.

He honored God at such a high level that he wouldn’t allow anyone to defy God or slander His name.

As David faced Goliath, take note of what he said; “I come to you in the name of the Lord of hosts, the God of the armies of Israel, whom you have defied”.

And it was that faith in his God that carried him to victory in the face of odds that were not in his favor when viewed through natural eyes.

Children of God, we are at such a crossroads right now.

We are facing an enemy of massive proportions; a giant that appears undefeatable by natural standards.

That enemy is staring down at us, threatening to snuff us out and feed our flesh to the birds and the beasts, just as Goliath threatened to do to David

Who will we trust during this season of intense warfare?

Will we trust in man, or will we trust in our God?

This is a very important question that we need to seriously ponder and seek God on.

We are seldom forewarned of situations where we may need to make this choice. They come suddenly, so we need to be sure we are prepared for them at all times.

And the only way to do that is to stay close to God, 24 hours a day, 365 days per year.

Psalm 73:28 (NKJV) 28 But it is good for me to draw near to God; I have put my trust in the Lord God, That I may declare all Your works.

Bible Verse of The Day – 7-20-21

1 Chronicles 29:14 (NKJV)  14 But who am I, and who are my people, That we should be able to offer so willingly as this? For all things come from You, And of Your own we have given You.

As David spoke to God, he voiced a divine understanding.

He had come to realize that all they had prepared and been supplied with in order to build God’s holy temple was directly from the hand of God Himself.

He understood that all things come from Him; even the things we use to do His work.

God makes provision for His work and blesses us as we obey Him.

David, and others that came to be a part of this work, gave from what they had; their skills, money, materials and labor.

David himself gave all his treasury toward building this wonderful place for God. Yet David said, “and of your own we have given to you”.

He acknowledged that all he had was really from God. It was not his.

What about us? Do we understand this concept that David understood? Or do we believe it is all ours, to do with what we want? Do we think these are our treasures to keep?

Our treasures are to be laid up in Heaven!

Matthew 6:19-20 (NKJV)  19 “Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal; 20 but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves do not break in and steal.

Here on earth, as God’s children, it is up to us to take what is given to us and be good stewards of it for the Lord.

It’s not ours. If it was, we would bring it with us when we leave this earth. But we don’t, because we can’t.

It all remains here.

What are we doing with the treasures we have been blessed with? Are we building something nice for Him or are we eating, drinking, and spending it on vanity, and things that make us happy and comfortable?

This is not to say that we can’t enjoy the blessings of the Lord. Not at all.

But living a lavish lifestyle while ignoring what God wants us to do is not for us here on this earth.

We need to feed and help the sick. We need to be there for the lonely, lost, and addicted. We need to reach the ends of the earth with the message of God’s love and salvation.

And how we get there is by praying and making it a priority, that we would be diligent with what God supplies us with for getting the job done.

David set his whole heart on doing this for God before he died. He made sure everything was in place for building God’s home.

1 Chronicles 29:3 (NKJV) 3 Moreover, because I have set my affection on the house of my God, I have given to the house of my God, over and above all that I have prepared for the holy house, my own special treasure of gold and silver…

What is He asking us to do today with what He has blessed us with?

The importance is not in the size, the amount, or even the scope of the project.

What’s truly important is our obedience and how we handle the treasures that are put in our hands.

Bible Verse of The Day – 6-22-21

1 Chronicles 28:9 (NKJV) 9 “As for you, my son Solomon, know the God of your father, and serve Him with a loyal heart and with a willing mind; for the Lord searches all hearts and understands all the intent of the thoughts. If you seek Him, He will be found by you; but if you forsake Him, He will cast you off forever.

When we honor God and seek after His plan for our lives it is the best life we can experience. Living with God and walking in His plan is amazing!

Many today are trying to plan their own life out and then ask God for help.

We need to turn this around, let God plan our life for us and be willing and open to hear Him at all times.

You may ask, “is it hard to know the plan of God for our life?”. It can be if we have a lot of busyness and noise going on around us. God is not one to hit us over the head. We either want it or we don’t.

That’s why seeking Him, spending time with Him, and listening to Him is so important.

His scripture promises us that if we seek Him, He will be found!

You ask, “does He speak to us with a voice?”.

God will speak to us in the way we will understand Him best. He’s God and He knows what it will take to get our undivided attention.

But it’s being open and “willing minded” that will help us to walk closely. Those that are stiff necked won’t hear Him and will carry on in their own ways.

They will use God’s name to gain for themselves and make others think they are following Him. But deep down they are walking out their own plans.

Proverbs 12:24 (NKJV) 24 The hand of the diligent will rule, But the lazy man will be put to forced labor.

Be diligent in listening to God and the things He gives us to do. It shows Him honor and causes us to be the head and not the tail.

Bible Verse of The Day – 7-8-20

Genesis 39:2 (NKJV) 2 The Lord was with Joseph, and he was a successful man; and he was in the house of his master the Egyptian.

As we read the first part of this verse, it sounds pretty good, right?

The Lord was with Joseph. He was a successful man. Those two things might make us envy Joseph if we’re not careful.

But then we read the last half; he was in the house of his master the Egyptian.

Wait. He had a master?

Yes, he did. He had a master. And that master wasn’t just his boss. He actually owned Joseph. He bought him from slave traders!

So, now we know that Joseph was actually a slave, not a free man.

Regardless, the scripture says that the Lord was with him and he was a successful man.

How could he be successful if he was a slave?

Because he honored God in all he did. Despite his circumstances, Joseph chose to live above his situation by trusting God.

He didn’t rely on himself. He didn’t rely on his master. He relied on God. And even though he had been beaten by his brothers and sold off to be taken far away from home, he trusted that God would deliver him.

And while he waited for his deliverance, he set his heart and his mind on serving God with everything in him.

How would we handle a situation like this? Would we honor God or would we spend our days feeling low and downtrodden?

An honest answer would probably show us a lot about ourselves. And that answer would also show us a lot about how much we trust God.

This isn’t something easy. A slave is a slave, no matter how we look at it.

The best part, though, is that God is merciful and patient with us. So, even if our answer today isn’t the greatest, we can move forward knowing that He will work with us.

And if we’re willing to put forth the effort, He will meet us where we are and walk us through our situation, step by step.
