Tag: What the Bible says about letting God lead us

Bible Verse of The Day – 8-19-23

Psalm 100:3 (NKJV) 3 Know that the Lord, He is God; It is He who has made us, and not we ourselves; We are His people and the sheep of His pasture.

God knows us better than we know ourselves. That is why it is so good for us to go to Him daily for wisdom and understanding.

He knows us and how we tick. He knows every little detail about us.

He knows what is good or bad for us. So, letting Him guide us in our steps is the best choice we could ever make.

For that to happen we must surrender to Him our thoughts and intellectual reasoning. This includes our questions as to why this and why not that?

We must literally trust Him with our whole being, and follow Him through to the end.

We are His people, the sheep of His pasture. Sheep need a shepherd, and our Shepherd is the Lord!

We shall not want. We shall lie down in green pastures. We will walk by still waters. Our soul will be restored, and we will be led on the path of righteousness for His name’s sake!

Psalm 23:1-3 (NKJV) 1 The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want. 2 He makes me to lie down in green pastures; He leads me beside the still waters. 3 He restores my soul; He leads me in the paths of righteousness For His name’s sake.

Amen.

Bible Verse of The Day – 9-11-19

Psalm 27:14 (NKJV) 14 Wait on the Lord; Be of good courage, And He shall strengthen your heart; Wait, I say, on the Lord!

As we grow and mature in our walk with God, we like to think that we will also grow when it comes to learning to wait on His timing for things in our lives.

The problem is that it doesn’t always happen the way we would like it to.

Sometimes we get impatient and step out on our own, ahead of God. This can get us into trouble.

Many people know the story of Abraham and Sarah, and how they took it upon themselves to “help” God deliver on His promise to bring them a son. And we all know how that turned out. It wasn’t good at all.

There is another example of this in God’s word that we rarely hear about, so let’s take a look at it and see how it played out.

After Jesus had ascended to heaven, the apostles decided that they needed to fill the place that was left empty by the departure of Judas. They felt it was important to keep the number at 12. So, they began to reason it all out.

Acts 1:22 (NKJV) 22 beginning from the baptism of John to that day when He was taken up from us, one of these must become a witness with us of His resurrection.”

As they began to work it out, they narrowed it down to two different people who had followed Jesus for a very long time; Joseph called Barsabas, who was surnamed Justus, and Matthias.

Once they had narrowed it down to these two men, they drew lots and chose the new apostle, Matthias.

Acts 1:26 (NKJV) 26 And they cast their lots, and the lot fell on Matthias. And he was numbered with the eleven apostles.

Now, it might not seem like they were doing anything wrong if we stopped right here. They did, after all, want the number of apostles to be 12, since that was the number Jesus had chosen.

What they didn’t know, however, is that God had already chosen someone else to take that 12th spot. His name was Paul.

If you read through the rest of the New Testament, you will never see the name of Matthias mentioned again. Paul, however, became a powerhouse for God, building and growing the body of Christ until his very last days, even dying for his faith.

You see, even powerful men and women of God can wrestle with His timing sometimes, trying, instead, to do things by human understanding.

So, it’s important that we make our decisions and choices very carefully, being patient to wait on God to bring His plans to fruition in His perfect timing.

Wait, I say, on the Lord!

Bible Verse of The Day – 6-29-19

Ephesians 1:17 (NKJV) 17 that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give to you the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of Him…

God didn’t intend for us to wrestle with people, predicaments or everyday life situations by ourselves.

Having the Spirit of wisdom and revelation will help us to discern correctly and to know how to handle things that we encounter each day.

If we don’t have His spirit of wisdom, we will find ourselves constantly bogged down. These things that come at us are only there to distract us and try to prevent us from doing the things that we need to get done.

When things like this pop up, all we need to do is seek Him for the answers and He will help us work through it.

Spending the time seeking Him for the answers versus trying to figure things out on our own will keep us moving forward, even when we don’t know the answer right away. Our days will be complete and productive, as He helps us accomplish everything that we need to accomplish.

Ask Him for His wisdom and revelation. Don’t waste time or get distracted. Amen.

James 1:5 (NKJV) 5 If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him.

Bible Verse of The Day – 6-4-19

Psalm 1:3 (NKJV) 3 He shall be like a tree Planted by the rivers of water, That brings forth its fruit in its season, Whose leaf also shall not wither; And whatever he does shall prosper.

Today I was faced with a hard decision. I felt compelled to help a relative of mine. But I have to admit at the same time that I was feeling like my help was coming more from my personal emotions than God’s prompting.

I prayed, ”Lord, what do I do?”.

As I looked out my office window, He said, “look at that tree. Do you see the blossoms on it?”. I said, “yes”. He said, “look around it also, at the bushes nearby. Do you see some have buds and some are blossoming beautifully?”. I said, “yes”. He said, “not too long ago they were not able to get all the light that they are getting now”.

He quickly reminded me of the nearby large tree that had been taken down recently. He reminded me of how it blocked the surrounding trees and shrubs from receiving what they needed to thrive, to grow, to blossom and be all that they were meant to be.

There was a lack of light, all because of that one tree standing in the way.

You know, sometimes we as people, even though we want to do good, can be like that tree, standing in the way of something God needs to do. We can block the fullness of a change, recovery, healing or deliverance that God wants to bring about.

I know it’s hard to not help when there is a need crying loudly for attention. But think about this; if our help is getting in the way of God doing something big and mighty, wouldn’t we step aside so that He can have His way?

Sometimes, as much as we want to be there to help, in some situations we may have to step aside and let God do His thing.

I’m preaching to myself today, but I hope it helps others that struggle with the same or a similar situation as mine.

God did not show me this to hurt me in any way. He showed me this because He knows me, and how when there is help needed, I will jump in.

He is teaching me how to be like this tree that prospers, that will bring forth fruit, not block or get in the way with what needs to be done.

Some things are beyond our helping hand.

Bible Verse of The Day – 4-15-19

2 Timothy 1:6 (NKJV) 6 Therefore I remind you to stir up the gift of God which is in you through the laying on of my hands.

If we want to get that gift stirred up and on fire, we need to get in God’s word and be sure to also spend time praying and listening. Go after whatever He puts in our hearts to go after.

For some it may just be getting past or getting delivered from some bad habits. For others, it may be spending time with someone specific or a group of people that may need help.

For others it may be just growing closer and reading more, taking notes and really digging in and learning.

For us, it has been amazing to watch this ministry grow. It has stirred us up and caused us to really get closer to God. It has made us realize that God is a BIG God and is in control of everything that we surrender to Him. He has it all under control. And we are blessed to know that.

Press in, get direction and go for it. Don’t be surprised when the door opens for us to use our God-given gift.

Always remember, let the Holy Spirit lead. If you don’t know what to say or do, wait on Him. He will guide you through.

John 14:26 (NKJV) 26 But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, He will teach you all things, and bring to your remembrance all things that I said to you.

Bible Verse of The Day – 11-12-18

John 10:10 (NKJV) 10 The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly.

Life can be beautiful when we get on the right track. The right track is following Christ.

There are so many choices we can make in this life. But making the right ones will determine how things turn out for us.

The most important choice we make is knowing who we give our heart to first and foremost. We may think this is referring to a spouse or friends, etc. But our heart should already belong to Someone else before we take those other steps. Our heart should belong to Jesus Christ.

Why? Because He is our key to living. He gives us life and life more abundantly. He gives us salvation and a life of joy while we are here on this earth, as we walk each day with Him. He wants to be married to us first, as our very best friend, to be there to help guide us in this life.

Once we fully trust Christ with our heart and our life He will guide our steps and show us what is good for us. As we let Him guide us, the decisions we make from there will be very productive. Our walk will be beautiful. Even as we face some of the hardest decisions we will have to make, it will be good.

Some may say, “well, I have already chosen my spouse and friends on my own. Where do I start now?

Christ meets us where we are at, just like He met the woman at the well. She had already been with 5 men. And the one she was currently with wasn’t her husband. Some may think that Jesus would have turned her away. But He didn’t. And He won’t turn us away.

John 4:17-18 (NKJV) 17 The woman answered and said, “I have no husband.” Jesus said to her, “You have well said, ‘I have no husband,’ 18 for you have had five husbands, and the one whom you now have is not your husband; in that you spoke truly.”

The most important thing to remember is Christ forgives and gives us an opportunity to fix things up. He is forever forgiving, compassionate, kindhearted and loving.

So, if we started off on the wrong track with our life, and we are wishing we had done things differently, it’s not too late.

Give Jesus our heart and our situation and let Him help us to make good decisions and choices where we are at right now.

He will begin a good work in us and complete it. Amen.

Philippians 1:6 (NKJV) 6 being confident of this very thing, that He who has begun a good work in you will complete it until the day of Jesus Christ…

Bible Verse of The Day – 9-29-18

Psalm 36:5 (NKJV) 5 Your mercy, O Lord, is in the heavens; Your faithfulness reaches to the clouds.

God is alive in us as much as we let Him be.

He will speak to us and move through us. He will give us the strength we need to finish projects. He will give us the patience to stay in a place where we don’t want to be.

He will give us the very words and heart we need to have in order to deal with things when we have no idea what to do.

Listen, He will take us from being flat on our backs, looking up and having no clue what to do, to being able to stand on our two feet, put one foot in front of the other and start walking forward.

There is nothing, and we will say it again, NOTHING too big for God.

So, don’t wait and don’t hold off. Get with Him and let Him lead you. He is faithful to help us right where we stand today. Amen.

Matthew 11:28 (NKJV) 28 Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.

Bible Verse of The Day – 2-28-18

Psalm 31:3 (NKJV) 3 For You are my rock and my fortress; Therefore, for Your name’s sake, Lead me and guide me.

Becoming a Christian happens when we truly believe Jesus Christ is the Messiah, and that He came to save us from our sins.

His death on the cross was for one purpose; to save us from our sinful nature. He made it possible for us to have a relationship with God, His Father, and live eternal life in Heaven. Praise be to God!!

Walking daily with Jesus is different than life was without Him. After we become a Christian, we have to decide to allow our relationship with Him to grow deeper. This happens when we open ourselves up to the Holy Spirit, our Helper, and allow Him to come and help guide us each day. He guides us in our prayers and He helps us keep our eyes open and be discerning. This keeps us alert.

Mark 14:38 (NKJV) 38 Watch and pray, lest you enter into temptation. The spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak.”

You know how much more we can see when we yield to the Holy Spirit? He has a way of clearing our vision when we yield our eyes and ears to Him. Things get done when we walk by the Spirit, versus walking by the flesh. The verse above says that our flesh is weak. And this is very true.

The flesh is full of itself, and it has no room for anything or anyone else. It’s selfish. It will make decisions based on what it wants, putting itself first and above everything else.

The Spirit is out to help us in any way He can. His agenda is to fix things and make them right. With Him we are quick to discern right from wrong.

Sometimes we don’t have a lot of time to make a decision. It needs to be made quickly, accurately and in that moment. The Holy Spirit will guide us in making the right move.

Our walk is so much more complete when we give Him room to help.

John 14:16 (NKJV) 16 And I will pray the Father, and He will give you another Helper, that He may abide with you forever

Bible Verse of The Day – 2-17-18

Psalm 37:23 (NKJV) 23 The steps of a good man are ordered by the Lord, And He delights in his way.

Letting God order our steps means that we let Him lead us in everything we do.

For instance, if He says, “it’s time to change those steps up a bit”, He means it’s time to step out of the old way of doing things and enter into a new way.

Sometimes we have a hard time with letting go of the old way. Maybe we feel comfortable doing some things a certain way because we’ve seen good results come from it. Don’t let comfort cause us to get left behind.

Comfort can and will ruin the flow of God if we decide we want to continue to do the same things, the same way, when He is trying to get us to do it in a different way.

Comfort and God’s peace are two very different things.

Comfort is what man feels when they are happy with the things they are doing and achieving, because they have it all figured out by their own intellect. They understand it.

God’s Peace comes at any time, whether we know what we are doing or not. God’s peace will help us figure things out and walk us through some of the hardest and toughest challenges in this life.

Comfort is for a moment, while peace is for the duration.

No matter what we are starting, whether we are building a new church, a new business, or a new relationship, etc., we need to stay with God, and let Him order our steps. It is everything! Amen.

Bible Verse of The Day – 2-7-18

Isaiah 64:8 (NKJV) 8 But now, O Lord, You are our Father; We are the clay, and You our potter; And all we are the work of Your hand.

Surrendering it all to God is the most powerful position to be in.

When we can say, “God, you can have me and everything I own”, we are setting ourselves up for His great and mighty work to be done, in us and through us. But we are also getting ready for a deeper and more meaningful relationship with Him than we have ever experienced.

Getting to this point requires us to take steps ahead of time that will help us to see that we truly need to surrender everything. And the only way to get there is to start at the beginning.

  • We need to give God the room He needs in our daily routine. That means we can plan out our day, but we need to listen and stay alert to God’s promptings. Sometimes God will warn us about specific things. He may see danger for us, and through His promptings He will cause us to think twice about heading in that direction. Listen to those little promptings, so we don’t have to change our plans over and over again.

I’ve done this many times, and I’ve learned from my errors. It’s better to go to Him first and ask about certain occasions, rather than having to change things up after we’ve made plans and spent money, etc., to carry it out.

  • We need to spend personal one-on-one time with Him. And yes, we have to do this even when we have a busy day. God should be the first One we talk to every day. He will start us off on the right track.
  • We need to pick up our Bible and read it. His word will change us. That is a promise. Even if we don’t understand it word for word, it’s OK. The Holy Spirit will help us and bring understanding. He’s Amazing!

When we begin to let God into our daily routine, we will see the importance of surrendering to Him. And our hearts won’t regret it or fight it, but we will welcome our Potter even more.

Bible Verse of The Day – 11-27-17

John 15:4 (NKJV) 4 Abide in Me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, unless it abides in the vine, neither can you, unless you abide in Me.

Do we ever find ourselves looking at our lives and wondering why nothing ever changes, or why we can’t seem to get to where we want to be in life?

Many times, we can trace this directly back to our walk with God.

You see, as we learn to put our walk with God first, and we put into practice what He teaches us, our lives will begin to change, a little at a time.

As we get our priorities straight and we begin to get understanding about who He wants us to be, we will begin to change the way we do things. And this will lead to godly changes in our lives.

Our attitude will change because our outlook on life changes. We begin to see things through a different set of eyes as we allow Him to have precedence in everything we do.

In turn, this will bring about the change that we feel like we’re so often missing.

It’s not about just wanting to change. Many people want to change. But unless we put wheels under that desire, and we actually do something about it, we will never see change come.

Above, Jesus said that without Him we can bear no fruit. In John 15:5, He says that without Him we can do nothing. So maybe it would be a good idea for us to listen to what He says and apply it to our lives if we truly want to see things happen for the better.

John 15:5 (NKJV) 5 “I am the vine, you are the branches. He who abides in Me, and I in him, bears much fruit; for without Me you can do nothing.

So, what does this mean?

It means that we get a good grasp on the fact that without Him, we can do nothing. And then we start putting Him first in everything we do. We do this without a motive. We do it without looking for something in return.

We do it because we love Him and we want to honor Him with our lives. And we do it because it is what He has told us to do. We lay all of our preconceived ideas aside and let Him lead us in each step we take.

We spend time in His word. We let it become our food each day. We get it in us and we let it nourish us and strengthen us.

We talk with Him and we listen to what He says to us. We follow His leading each and every day.

Then, we watch in awe as our lives begin to change.

And we give Him the glory and honor He deserves for everything that He does in our lives.

It isn’t always easy. It takes effort on our part. It won’t happen overnight. It takes time.

But it’s worth every bit of time and effort that is required. And our lives will be forever changed if we are diligent and faithful in it.

Amen
