Bible Verse of The Day – 4-5-18

Ephesians 5:30-33 (NKJV) 30 For we are members of His body, of His flesh and of His bones. 31 “For this reason a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh.” 32 This is a great mystery, but I speak concerning Christ and the church. 33 Nevertheless let each one of you in particular so love his own wife as himself, and let the wife see that she respects her husband.

As members of His body, we are one with Him.

Just as we are one with Him, we are told that a man will leave his mother and father and become one with his bride. The two shall become one flesh.

To the human mind, two people becoming one flesh is very mysterious and hard to understand. But when we begin to look at it through spiritual eyes, and through God’s word, we can see that the relationship between a husband and his wife is symbolic of the relationship between Christ and His bride.

As we draw near to God and learn of Him, we begin to become one with Him on many levels.

As a husband and wife come together, both in physical intimacy and in every other aspect of their lives, they also become one on many levels. With couples who have been together for a very long time, it’s usually very easy to see how united they are as we watch them interact with each other.

It’s truly a miracle and a mystery of God to see, and to live out.

We can personally attest to this in our own marriage. God has truly brought us together and shown us how to become “one flesh” in every area of our relationship.

He has blessed us with a bond that can only be explained by the phrase “one flesh”.

We recently celebrated our 35th wedding anniversary, on March 12. It was a huge milestone for us, not just in our marriage, but in our lives in general, as He has walked us through so much. We were very excited about it!

And despite some of the things we have faced over the years, it was our unity through the bonds that God created that kept us moving forward without so much as a small hiccup in our marriage. And for that, we give God all of the glory and honor.

It’s very fitting that the first verse of Ephesians chapter 5 starts off by telling us to be imitators of God, and the last verse gives us instructions telling husbands and wives to love and respect each other.

And as we become imitators of God, everything about our marriage relationship will become stronger, and our love and respect for each other will grow in ways we could never have imagined. Amen

Bible Verse of The Day – 4-4-18

Ephesians 5:28-29 (NKJV) 28 So husbands ought to love their own wives as their own bodies; he who loves his wife loves himself. 29 For no one ever hated his own flesh, but nourishes and cherishes it, just as the Lord does the church.

Husbands ought to love their wives as their own bodies. This is a powerful statement that, if we could just get it, would transform our marriages.

In marriage, we need to make sure we are meeting the needs of our spouse. It’s important that we don’t put them after everything else. Doing so is a recipe for a failed marriage.

We nourish our own bodies with food. We take care of them with exercise and other means of doing our best to stay healthy. This is done because we care about our own bodies. We care about ourselves.

So it should be with our wives. We need to nurture them, cherish them, love them and put them first, above other things. They need to come before our hobbies, our sports and our work.

It’s easy to take them for granted and push them to second or third place. We sometimes make the mistake of thinking that because they will always be there that we can put them off “until later”.

But it’s important that we don’t fall into that trap. Because doing so can break down the relationship and cause them to feel neglected, possibly even causing them to look elsewhere for the attention and affection that we fail to give them.

Love your wife. Put her first. Treat her as God intends us to. And watch the love between you grow and flourish!

Bible Verse of The Day – 4-3-18

Ephesians 5:22-27 (NKJV) 22 Wives, submit to your own husbands, as to the Lord. 23 For the husband is head of the wife, as also Christ is head of the church; and He is the Savior of the body. 24 Therefore, just as the church is subject to Christ, so let the wives be to their own husbands in everything. 25 Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ also loved the church and gave Himself for her, 26 that He might sanctify and cleanse her with the washing of water by the word, 27 that He might present her to Himself a glorious church, not having spot or wrinkle or any such thing, but that she should be holy and without blemish.

As the body is under Christ, so is the wife under the husband. So it’s important that wives submit to their husbands out of respect and love, recognizing them as the protector and leader of the home.

Likewise, husbands love your wives selflessly, as Christ loved the church. Love them in a way that emulates Christ, being willing to lay your life down for her.

The loving example and strong leadership of the husband demonstrates the love that God has for us. And as the husband lives out and shares the word of God in the home, he creates an environment whereby his wife will also be washed by the water of God’s word, giving her the opportunity to be made clean and sanctified.

These verses show how marriage is truly symbolic of Christ and us, His bride.

More to come…

Bible Verse of The Day – 2-12-18

2 Corinthians 6:14 (NKJV) 14 Do not be unequally yoked together with unbelievers. For what fellowship has righteousness with lawlessness? And what communion has light with darkness?

If we are a believer looking for a relationship, it’s important that we trust that God will guide our steps. It’s even more important that we follow those steps. He wants us to be with the right person more than we know.

Don’t try to figure it out or look for them. Don’t spend a lot of time going out on dates with every person we run into. If we are in the right place, at the right time, with the right heart, God will prompt us and let us know.

We might say, “well, where is the right place?”.

The right place involves us focusing on living our life each day, honoring and following God.

For example, if we go to work, focus on doing our best on our job. If we are in school, focus on our studies and work hard to get good grades. If we are at home, focus on doing whatever it takes to keep the atmosphere peaceful and take care of the household responsibilities, with everything in us.

Don’t spend time looking around for a mate. God knows the one that will work with us. The one that we will spend our life together with.

Be encouraged today. Thank God in advance, for He is faithful to guide our steps even with relationships.

We just have to let Him.

Bible Verse of The Day – 1-26-18

Ephesians 5:33 (NKJV) 33 Nevertheless let each one of you in particular so love his own wife as himself, and let the wife see that she respects her husband.

Husbands, love your wife. And wife, respect your husband.

Love and respect in any marriage is what keeps that marriage growing strong. Pray for each other, hold each other dear to your hearts, and sacrifice for each other when needed.

As couples, we need to protect our marriage. We need to watch out for our spouse. If our spouse is struggling, we need to make sure we are there for them. Everything else can wait.

Overtime or extra work can wait. The kid’s activities can wait. The meetings can wait. Our social hour with friends can wait. Our sports can wait. Our shopping can wait. Everything else gets put on hold when it comes to our marriage.

When our spouse is struggling, we shouldn’t spend our time nagging at them for the things they are doing wrong. We don’t need to be reminding them of the things they might have done in the past. Leave the past in the past.

They need us to lift them up, encourage them and help them through their tough days. Stand with them and be there for them.

Sometimes we have to humble ourselves and be reminded of our own weaknesses and the struggles that we have, so we can be compassionate towards them during this time.

Love should get stronger when tough times come. Love doesn’t give up. Love sees what may appear to be an ugly situation and helps it to become beautiful, stronger and successful.

Renew our love today for each other by stopping everything. Sit down. Remind each other about our vows and what God says in His word.

Tell each other that we are there for them and will enjoy the good times and walk through the tough times together. And whatever it takes, we will come through and out the other side, for God is with us.

Romans 8:31 (NKJV) 31 What then shall we say to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us?

Bible Verse of The Day – 10-27-17

Ephesians 5:31 (NKJV) 31 “For this reason a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh.”

This verse expresses the importance of a man leaving his father and mother and joining together with his wife. And the TWO shall become one.

It doesn’t say anything about having the father and mother be a part of the marriage. It doesn’t say anything about the father and mother having a say regarding the marriage if the two who are getting married are adults. It doesn’t say it’s OK for parents to say how the couple should do things, etc. They should not be able to come between the husband and the wife at all.

Some men have never truly left their father and mother. They may have moved out of their home, but they are still attached. And what their parents say has more meaning to them than what their own wife says.

As a matter of fact, their wives really don’t have a say at all when it comes to certain discussions. And that is very sad.

This is not the way it should be, and that marriage will suffer and struggle because of it.

If your marriage is falling apart, and this is one of the reasons, it’s time to cut the apron strings, so to speak, and listen to your spouse, and hope that it is not too late to repair the damage that has been done.

God wants husbands and wives to be together as one. There is no room for anyone to come between them. Not parents, not children, not friends, not anyone.

It is OK for Father and Mother to be able to give good advice when asked. But, it is not good for parents to force it on the marriage or try and come between them in any way.

Husband, join together with your wife in everything. Become one with her. Love her. Give her the affection she needs. And wives, you do the same too, for your husband.

1 Corinthians 7:3 (NKJV) 3 Let the husband render to his wife the affection due her, and likewise also the wife to her husband.

May God bless your marriage today!

Bible Verse of The Day – 5-2-17

Ephesians 5:25 (NKJV) 25 Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ also loved the church and gave Himself for her,

Have we done something nice for our wives lately? Have we planned a special night out, or maybe done some extra things around the house that may help her out in one way or another? How about a nice card? Or a massage without her having to ask for it?

Sometimes all it takes is taking a little bit of our time to do something they weren’t expecting, that will let them know they are loved, respected, appreciated and thought of.

Take some time today and plan something special for her. Love is often felt in the simplest ways.

Bible Verse of The Day – 2-3-17

Ephesians 5:33 (NKJV) 33 Nevertheless let each one of you in particular so love his own wife as himself, and let the wife see that she respects her husband.

People may think that just because they are married, it’s a sealed deal. Well, it should be forever. That is God’s intention for every marriage. But looking at statistics, it shows differently.

We need to know that going into any relationship or marriage takes work on both sides. No one person should have to do it all. It requires a nice balance between both people.

The men need to focus on loving their wife as Christ loves the bride. The women need to focus on respecting their husband. If these two very important things get neglected, things will begin to break. And then problems will begin to happen.

The good news is that if both are willing to let God help them fix it, He can and will make it new again. But in order for that to happen, both people need to be willing to let Him fix whatever needs to be fixed in each individual, including themselves.

You can ask any woman; if her husband doesn’t show her love the way that she wants to feel loved, will she have respect for him? No, she won’t.

Or ask any man; if his wife does not show him respect and mistreats him, is he going to be able to love her the way God wants him to love her? Nope.

If our marriages are based on God being the center and the head, we will listen and not give up on our marriage. We will take this verse seriously and we will work toward making it a priority on both ends.

As we follow what God tells us to do in this verse, our marriage will grow stronger. And we will develop a deep love and respect for each other.

Hold on to that marriage. It is worth the effort. Work together in exercising love and respect for each other. If we will do this, change will come. Amen.

Bible Verse of The Day – 11-26-16

Genesis 2:24 (NKJV) 24 Therefore a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and they shall become one flesh.

This is how God ordained marriage to be between a man and a woman; To leave his father and mother and become one with his wife, knowing that God will be their Helper, their Stability and their ROCK.

Marriage is a time of learning and growing together. It’s a time where God takes two people who may be totally opposite from each other, and He teaches them how to come together and make it work, as they learn to love each other more and more through it all.

Instead of getting upset about our spouse not acting, thinking or doing things the way we are used to doing them, we can learn what makes them tick and that our ways of doing things are not the only way.

God will help us embrace and love the differences in our spouse, if we let Him. Learning that those differences can bring balance to us is good, and will help us grow and mature as husband and wife.

Couples should never feel afraid to express themselves to each other. They should not fear rejection. They should not fear criticism or being laughed at in a negative way by their spouse.

A lot of things that couples are separating over can be fixed. They can be worked out and trust and love CAN be built back up. We have to want to work at it and take the necessary steps through God’s omniscient (all-knowing) guidance.

We may have to push back some old ways of thinking. We may have to humble ourselves and let go of things that really eat away at us at times. We may even have to say things that we never thought we would hear ourselves saying, like; it’s OK, I’m sorry, I forgive you or, will you forgive me.

God will help us restore our marriage and we will be able to truly walk in oneness if He is made to be the center of our marriage.

There is NO perfect couple, relationship or marriage. But, with God’s help there is such a thing as a restored, healed and God-renewed marriage!

If your marriage is suffering today, this is a new season for you and your spouse. It’s time to let God step in and renovate your hearts and thinking toward each other.

Bible Verse of The Day – 10-13-16

Genesis 2:23-24 (NKJV)  And Adam said: “This is now bone of my bones And flesh of my flesh; She shall be called Woman, Because she was taken out of Man.” 24 Therefore a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and they shall become one flesh.

I absolutely LOVE this…they shall become ONE flesh.

This is how close God wants a husband and a wife to be. ONE flesh.

When we are one, a marriage will stand. This is how it will make it through those tough times and how it will get through those moments when everything is coming at us and hitting us from every direction.

God can and will hold a marriage together as we put Him first and become one flesh in Him.

There are some out there today who won’t even share some things with their spouse due to the fact they are afraid of what it might do to their marriage. They are afraid that it will destroy them and what they have between each other.

Let us just say this, that if there is dishonesty in a marriage, if there are hidden secrets in a marriage, it really isn’t much of a marriage.

A marriage needs to be built on honesty, and sometimes that honesty can hurt and it can cut. But it can also bring healing as things are dealt with openly, and not hidden deep within the heart.

Husbands and wives, please listen. A marriage is more than just words on a paper. When we stand at that altar and repeat after that minister, “for better or for worse” we are making a promise to God that we will stick together no matter what, through thick and thin. Through good times and bad times, we will stand as one flesh, helping each other through some very trying times. It takes 100% effort from both the husband and the wife.

Some of us today need to let go of the pain we are holding in our hearts toward our spouse and we need to forgive them. And some of us need to be forgiven ourselves for holding onto some things that we should have let go of a long time ago. For that, we need to ask for forgiveness.

Healing will come to our marriage, blessings will come to our marriage and a love that is stronger then ever will come to our marriage when we stand together, helping each other and putting God at the head of it all.

Become one today in your marriage. Amen.
