Tag: What the Bible says about rest

Bible Verse of The Day – 11-28-20

Exodus 33:14 (NKJV) 14 And He said, “My Presence will go with you, and I will give you rest.”

The times are drawing near where we are beginning to see some things we had probably all hoped wouldn’t happen in our lifetime.

Corruption and perversion are on the rise more than ever. It’s blatant, and the worst part about it is that it’s openly allowed.

It’s not questioned by the authorities. It’s given permission by the very ones we thought would protect us from it.

We need to remember that no one can protect us but God.

We have to know this. We have to know that as believers our protection comes from Him and Him alone.

We need to be with Him, oh so closely, hearing His word to us. We can’t be listening to too much of the news and other stuff that is happening. It can cause us to be in deep distress.

The Lord spoke to me just last week. He said, I want you to rest. I said, “Lord I don’t feel like I am tired.” But God never goes back on His word or explains His answer to us. It’s up to us to stay focused and do what He says.

So, I took the day and tried so hard to rest. My mind was not having it. Everything on the news, everything on the Internet, and everything in the atmosphere was crazy. How does one shut down?

I then realized what my good and gracious Lord was telling me. Rest my head. Get away from all the talk, from all the problems, and just rest my mind.

When I finally got what it was He was telling me, I could actually feel the results of the fatigue that had built up. I was mentally exhausted.

What did I do to relax? I vacuumed my house! I did things that I didn’t have to think about. And I love vacuuming!!

For me it’s very rewarding, with no thinking involved.

So, if you are in deep stress today, maybe like me you don’t feel like you are, but God is saying, “bring it down a notch”.

Do something that doesn’t require you to have to think.

REST your mind.

Bible Verse of The Day – 5-11-20

Matthew 11:29 (NKJV) 29 Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.

Are you tired and weary? It’s safe to say that most of us go through periods where we feel like we can’t take one more thing.

Sometimes life can really throw some stuff at us that make us feel like we just need some peace, some rest.

Most of us will automatically think of getting rest as maybe we need some sleep.

But if we get sleep, and the storm is still raging all around us when we wake up, we will still have no rest for our souls.

Do you know when we will find rest for our souls? When we take the yoke of Jesus upon us and find our rest in Him.

You see, Jesus told us plainly that we need to do that. And then He said we need to learn from Him!

As we learn from Him, He will teach us what true rest is and what it feels like. And once we get that understanding in our spirits, we will never again settle for anything less. There will be no need to do so!

So, we urge you today to take the yoke of Jesus upon you. Learn from Him. Press into Him. Draw near to Him, and seek Him with all your heart.

Then, and only then will you find rest for your souls.

Jeremiah 29:13 (NKJV) 13 And you will seek Me and find Me, when you search for Me with all your heart.

Bible Verse of The Day – 9-18-18

Genesis 2:2 (NKJV) 2 And on the seventh day God ended His work which He had done, and He rested on the seventh day from all His work which He had done.

Resting is something that God has said is very important.

In Genesis, there are many different scriptures that refer to God resting after He created everything.

It’s important to note that God didn’t need to rest. He is not a human being with a fleshly body that gets tired. He rested to set an example for us. He wanted to show us the importance of taking time to let our bodies recuperate and regain their strength after a week’s work.

Today’s cultures are largely fast-paced, with very little time taken to rest. Many people work 6-7 days per week now, creating situations where millions of people are trying to function at 100%, while running on empty.

This can be very dangerous in so many ways. We get physically tired, which leads to emotional and spiritual weariness. And all of this leads to weakness in many areas of our lives.

We can make some terrible mistakes and very poor choices when we’re tired. Many very bad accidents happen when people are overtired. And some of the worst choices we make are made when we’re tired and worn out.

So, if God has told us that we need to take time and rest, and He showed us by His own example, then we need to obey Him and set aside time each week to rest.

It’s not a question of “if” we should rest. God has already settled that question.

It’s really a matter of “why” we should rest. And the “why” is because God has told us to.

Additionally, we discuss why it’s so important, and how not resting can negatively impact our lives and the lives of those around us.

Bible Verse of The Day – 7-13-18

Genesis 2:2 (NKJV) 2 And on the seventh day God ended His work which He had done, and He rested on the seventh day from all His work which He had done.

Resting is hard for some people, but it is a necessity.

Different personalities may find it hard to take a break and not work. For example, people that are goal-driven usually find it hard.

People that may be greedy usually don’t like to rest because they are afraid they might lose out on something if they rest.

People that are very active and like to be moving all the time don’t like the thought of sitting still.

But rest is required if we want to be productive and stay balanced in our lives.

Having a rested mind and body will help us to get much more done than if we are tired and stressed.

I’ll admit that when I’m tired I make mistakes. I cannot be running on empty and produce good quality anything. Balanced REST will produce the best! Amen.

A simple little reminder today; be sure to get some rest.

Bible Verse of The Day – 4-16-18

Genesis 2:2 (NKJV) 2 And on the seventh day God ended His work which He had done, and He rested on the seventh day from all His work which He had done.

If God Himself took a rest, then so must we also rest.

Some of us never stop. We don’t know how to. We keep going and going. Even on our days off we are trying to be productive, making sure we get things done.

Work without rest is not good. Even though our minds may feel better about what we have accomplished, our physical bodies need rest.

Sometimes we forget we are only human and not some kind of super hero. We need to take some time to smell the flowers, breathe the fresh air, look up at the sky, sit outside and listen to the birds, the ocean waves or just do something like walking, hiking, bike riding or fishing!

Take a break. Go and do something where we don’t have to think.

Life and its demands can sometimes get very overwhelming. It’s OK for us to put on the brakes and say, “I need to have a few minutes, a few hours or maybe a few days to just sit. No schedule, no work, and no phone”.

Do we do this? Or do we push through, exhaust ourselves even further, ending up sick, cranky and burned out?

Rest is important. Our health is important to God. Go and get some rest! Amen.

Bible Verse of The Day – 2-4-17

Genesis 2:3 (NKJV) 3 Then God blessed the seventh day and sanctified it, because in it He rested from all His work which God had created and made.

It’s safe to say that if God took a rest from all His work, then we too should take a rest from all our work. God didn’t do this necessarily because He needed rest. He did this to set an example for us!

Just because we don’t go into work It doesn’t mean we are resting. Sometimes we take our work home with us. And while we should be resting, in our minds and thoughts we are still trying to figure things out. That’s not resting.

What is rest? A bodily state characterized by minimal functional and metabolic activities: freedom from activity or labor.

Rest means REST. Rest from our activities, rest from labor and rest in our thoughts.

Maybe some of us are struggling with health issues, marital issues, or children issues because we simply don’t know the meaning of rest. And we never stop going long enough to address certain things.

It will cause us problems if we don’t know how to pull back and rest, especially if we are the type of person that feels like we always have to be doing something and we never stop “to smell the flowers” so to speak.

Take this verse and pin it up somewhere so we can be reminded that it is not just OK to rest, but it is a necessity.

Rest is the word for today.

Get out of that routine for a short time. Let our minds sit for a bit and just have no thoughts running through them. And enjoy the quietness of rest.
