Tag: What the Bible says about walking by faith

Bible Verse of The Day – 4-26-24

Hebrews 11:30 (NKJV) 30 By faith the walls of Jericho fell down after they were encircled for seven days.

Picture this; you are in the military, and you are told to conquer your enemy by silently marching around their walls for six days, and then yelling loudly on the seventh day.

Sounds far-fetched, right?

But that is exactly what God told the Israelites to do when they opposed Jericho.

This endeavor did not require extreme military might or precision for victory to come.

What did it require?

It required faith on the part of those who were instructed to do the marching.

And so it is with our own lives. We all face our own Jericho or our own Goliath.

Regardless of what it is, the odds seem stacked against us as our opponent looms large in our faces.

We can be opposed on personal levels in many ways and to varying degrees.

Some days, our faith is strong, and we feel like we can conquer anything we face.

Other days, we may feel weak and impotent, unable to swat and kill a small mosquito.

But this does not negate who God is and the faith that He has placed within each of us.

And faith is what it takes to please Him. Faith is required to walk the walk He has tasked us with walking.

So, we say to you today, hold onto hope, even when hope seems hard to find.

Press into God even when He seems terribly far away and silent.

Know that you are not here to simply exist and then quietly disappear. You have a purpose. And that purpose is to honor, serve and worship the God who created you.

So, let us do just that. Let us put him and keep Him in His rightful place in our lives, walking in the faith that He has sown into us.

Hebrews 11:6 (NKJV) 6 But without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him.

Bible Verse of The Day – 4-22-24

John 20:29 (NKJV) 29 Jesus said to him, “Thomas, because you have seen Me, you have believed. Blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed.”

Thomas was a doubter. He refused to believe what the other disciples told Him about Jesus being resurrected unless he saw it himself.

Thomas had questions. How could Jesus really be alive? He had been crucified and buried. Everyone knew it.

How could his fellow disciples, whom he had spent the last three years with, be so cruel as to tell him that Jesus was no longer in the tomb?

It was hard for him to accept what he was being told even though Jesus had told them all in advance what would take place.

John 20:25 (NKJV) 25 The other disciples therefore said to him, “We have seen the Lord.” So he said to them, “Unless I see in His hands the print of the nails, and put my finger into the print of the nails, and put my hand into His side, I will not believe.”

Many of us are just like Thomas. We refuse to believe something unless we see it with our own eyes. We question everything, even if God Himself has said it.

This will not only cause our faith to falter, but it will also allow doubt to grow in our minds.

But there is no need to fret because God tells us some things that will help us.

First, He told us that His ways and His thoughts are higher than ours.

Isaiah 55:9 (NKJV) 9 “For as the heavens are higher than the earth, So are My ways higher than your ways, And My thoughts than your thoughts.

Next, He told us not to rely on our own understanding.

Proverbs 3:5-6 (NKJV) 5 Trust in the Lord with all your heart, And lean not on your own understanding; 6 In all your ways acknowledge Him, And He shall direct your paths.

Then, He told us that we are to walk by faith, not by what we see.

2 Corinthians 5:7 (NKJV) 7 For we walk by faith, not by sight.

Let us not be like Thomas, doubting the words of Jesus or what God has told us in His word.

We may not understand some of it, or we might find some of it hard to comprehend.

But let us take Him at His word, learning to trust Him and believe Him even when we might not understand it.

And as we make a deliberate effort to grow our relationship with Him, we will find ourselves doubting and questioning Him less and less.

Bible Verse of The Day – 11-25-23

2 Corinthians 5:7 (NKJV) 7 For we walk by faith, not by sight.

How do we know when we are in the will of God, taking steps of faith and not steps of presumption?

Three words; there is peace.

We can’t express this enough. No matter what steps we need to take, there will be a “God-given peace” when it’s Him.

This doesn’t mean it won’t be challenging, because when we step out and do anything different than what we are used to doing, there will usually be that element of fear, insecurity, or nervousness/anxiety.

But if it is God, even in all those different emotions we feel, there will be a peace that surpasses all understanding.

That is the Peace of God letting us know it will be OK, guarding us from our emotions that will bombard our heart and mind.

Philippians 4:7 (NKJV) 7 and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.

If we are feeling chaotic after stepping out in what we thought was faith, it’s a sure sign something is off.

Don’t ignore it and think it will get better over time.

Whatever changes we made that could possibly have caused it, we need to undo as fast as we can so we can figure out what exactly happened, and why.

There is much to be said about drawing close to God.

It’s in moments like these that walking close to Him surely makes a difference. It can literally save us from making huge mistakes or wasting a lot of time on things that weren’t ours in the first place.

Some may ask, “do we just step out in faith even if we are not sure it’s God?”.

If we just step out and do whatever we want, without being prayerful and waiting on God, we are not walking by faith. Rather, it is presumption.

We need to wait fully on Him and make sure it is what He wants us to do.

If we wait on Him, He strengthens our hearts to take the step He puts in front of us. Even though it’s a step of faith on our part, He goes before us and helps us through it all.

Psalms 27:14 (NKJV) 14 Wait on the Lord; be of good courage, and He shall strengthen your heart; Wait, I say, on the Lord!

We don’t want to confuse faith with presumption. Wait on the Lord, and He will guide us.

Bible Verse of The Day – 10-21-23

2 Corinthians 5:7 (NKJV) 7 For we walk by faith, not by sight.

If God is prompting us to take a step of faith today, we shouldn’t hesitate.

We may not know the details of it all, but the first step is the most important one. And God will show us more as we submit to Him.

When we step out not knowing how it is all going to turn out, that is walking in faith at its finest. Faith walking is one of the most exciting ways to live as a believer.

You see, God has a way of opening doors for us that we could never open on our own, by our own intellect, our own wisdom or our own understanding.

Abram’s door came with a big change, and a command to leave his country; to go out from his family and his father’s house, to a place unknown to him.

I’d say Abram was not walking by sight. He couldn’t know or see what was before him. He had to walk by faith.

Genesis 12:1 (NKJV) 1 Now the Lord had said to Abram: “Get out of your country, From your family And from your father’s house, To a land that I will show you.

Who today needs a door to open? Who needs a God-inspired plan? Who needs a God-changed life?

It’s called, “the land that I will show you.”

Are we willing to walk by faith, not knowing what lies ahead of us?

Are we willing to take steps that we never thought we could take?

Are we ready to grow and see God’s hand on our day-to-day life?

This walk is not just about God opening doors for us while we sit idly by and wait.

We will have a part to play in it. It’s a two-part walk where God does His part, and we must be willing to do ours in order for it to work.

We may have to do things that take us out of our comfort zone. Not to worry though, it is very rewarding when we see the outcome of it all.

Are we ready for an adventure?

There is an old saying, “if you can’t take the heat, get out of the kitchen”.

Some may say that walking in the kind of faith that Abram had to walk in is too hard, and they may be inclined to try to “get out of the kitchen”.

But as believers trusting in Almighty God, let us say, “we are ready, Lord. Take us all the way. Amen.

Bible Verse of The Day – 12-29-21

2 Corinthians 5:7 (NKJV) 7 For we walk by faith, not by sight.

Walking by faith is easy to envision and easy to talk about, until we actually have to do it.

But when the rubber meets the road, some things aren’t quite what we may have pictured in our minds.

Most of you are aware that God picked us up and moved us to a new land, 750 miles from where we had lived all our lives.

Our roots in New England were deep, having been there for decades. Everything was intimately familiar to us. And I mean everything!

As we made the move to our new homeland, we were excited, expectant and maybe even a little scared.

We were not scared because we lacked faith. We were not scared of the unknown. But we were scared because we didn’t know how we would react to such a change.

The place God moved us to was not a place we chose. He chose it for us. And because it was His choice for us, we didn’t know what to expect.

As we made the 12 1/2 hour drive to our new location, everything went flawlessly. The drive was peaceful and uneventful, as we had prayed and asked God for.

But a few days later, as we moved into our new home and began to work toward settling in, we must admit that there were moments when we felt like the rug had been pulled from under us as we tried to find something familiar to grab hold of.

Everything felt like a whirlwind as we tried to find a firm foothold in the natural. Nothing was familiar. Even trying to find everyday things in the house was confusing and even frustrating.

But God is faithful, even in these types of situations. And as I literally asked Him to give me something even a little familiar to grab hold of, He reassured me that everything would be fine. And it was.

Now, just a day later, I have total peace. Not because everything suddenly fell into place. But because I recognized my fragility as a human and surrendered it to Him.

This is where the power comes in the lives of believers; not in being spiritual superheroes, but in being completely surrendered to Him and being able to recognize our weaknesses and in bowing before Him where we lay them at His feet.

Go to Him. Lay those things that we wrestle with at His feet. And surrender them to Him.

He will walk us through those moments (or seasons) of fear, apprehension and frailty. And He will replace all of those things that trouble us with His peace as we do so.

Bible Verse of The Day – 5-25-20

Galatians 4:28 (NKJV) 28 Now we, brethren, as Isaac was, are children of promise.

As followers of Christ, we are children of promise.

We are heirs of the promises made to Abraham.

Why? Because we are spiritual heirs of Abraham.

Abraham had a special relationship with God. He believed God and had faith in Him in a time period long before Moses had come along.

Abraham exhibited that inward faith through his outward actions, by obeying God when he was told to do something or holding fast when God made him a promise.

Abraham trusted God!

It was that faith and trust that led him to receive Isaac, his son of promise, at the age of 100 years, through his wife, Sarah, who was also well beyond child-bearing years and who had been barren her entire life.

Because Abraham believed and trusted God, it was credited to him as righteousness. And this happened long before righteousness by faith was even understood by man.

Eventually, through Moses, The Law came along.

Man made the mistaken assumption that following The Law made them righteous. The Law, though, was actually written to show man their sinful state, and push them toward God in a way that would bring repentance, not haughty self-righteousness by way of pride for following the law religiously.

Thankfully, Jesus fulfilled The Law, bringing us back around to righteousness through faith.

So, as we walk out this life as believers, know that, as Abraham, we don’t live by what we see. We live by what God tells us, shows us and promises us.

It’s not always an easy walk. But as we do it, our faith and trust in God grows, drawing us closer and closer to Him.

Genesis 15:5-6 (NKJV) 5 Then He brought him outside and said, “Look now toward heaven, and count the stars if you are able to number them.” And He said to him, “So shall your descendants be.”

Bible Verse of The Day – 5-18-20

2 Corinthians 5:7 (NKJV) 7 For we walk by faith, not by sight.

Our sight is important to us. It allows us to see what’s around us; what’s happening, what’s ahead of us, and what stands in our way.

Our sight, though, is limited. Our eyes work only on natural principles. They see what is tangible. They cannot see what is spiritual.

There can be seasons in our lives when we struggle to see beyond the darkness that surrounds us. Certain situations and events can make us feel lost, hopeless and like we are wandering without vision. It can happen to all of us.

This is when we have to reach out and walk by faith, not by what we see in the natural.

This requires that we push back the emotions that cause us to become fearful, and teach ourselves to trust in God, even when we feel like we are blind and don’t even know where to put our feet, as we struggle to walk forward.

Our spirit needs to be able to take charge, overriding our tendency to rely on common sense and logic and, instead, lean in and listen for what His spirit is telling our spirit to do.

Maybe we find that difficult. Maybe at this point in our lives we are struggling just to push back unbelief. Or maybe we just need something we can cling to, to get us to take our next step.

This is when we need to look around us. We might not see the immediate answer to our problems, but we can see the sun, stars and the beauty of creation, to remind us of Who it is that our faith and trust is in.

And when we do this, and we get that glimpse of God’s incredible power and might, it helps us to shake off the doubt and unbelief and move forward, even if it might only be one inch at a time.

Forward motion is forward motion, regardless of the speed or the increments by which we move.

Don’t look back. Look ahead. And look up to the One who has the power to pick us up even when we are at our weakest, and get us moving again.

He is faithful.

Bible Verse of The Day – 1-3-17

2 Corinthians 5:7 (NKJV) 7 For we walk by faith, not by sight.

Have you ever closed your eyes and tried to walk around? It’s not easy.

First of all, the moment you close your eyes everything goes dark. Second, if you try to walk or move around, you end up bumping into things and stumbling around.

When we first start trying to walk by faith, it can feel like we’re trying to walk with our eyes closed. Everything is unfamiliar and it can seem like we’re about to stumble and fall down.

But this is normal. We learn to walk based on what we see. It’s human nature. So to start walking by faith, without being able to see everything that’s ahead with our natural eyes, it can be a bit scary and intimidating.

But just like anything that’s new to us, walking by faith will become more natural as we do it more.

We may start out by trusting God with little things. And then we move on to bigger things. And as we do this, we become more and more comfortable with walking based on what we can’t see and less dependent on what we can see.

It won’t happen overnight, so don’t expect it to. And don’t be disappointed if you have a hard time adjusting to it.

But here’s the key to successfully living your life walking by faith. Take your eyes off of walking by faith and put them squarely on God. Build your relationship with Him. Press into Him and learn of Him. And as you do this, you will learn to hear His voice more clearly.

And when we can hear His voice clearly, we will have no trouble walking by faith, even when we can see nothing in front of us with our natural eyes.

But our spiritual eyes will now be sharp and clear. And we will be able to see things that our natural eyes would never be able to see.

Set your eyes on Him and you will never be afraid to walk by faith ever again.

Bible Verse of The Day – 12-31-14

2 Corinthians 5:7 (NKJV) 7 For we walk by faith, not by sight.

We live in a world that walks by sight. Everything that people do, they tend to do based on what they see.

As followers of Christ, we do things the opposite of this, by what we can only see with faith.

It’s pretty easy to get off track and do things and make choices based only on what we can see with our eyes, if we’re not careful.

Being able to walk by faith requires that we be “plugged in” to God and walking closely with Him, so we can make sound choices and decisions, regardless of how things look on the surface.

This can be a bit tricky when we’re first learning, especially if we are acting under pressure because of a tense situation or some kind of deadline.

But as we press in to God, we learn to hear His voice more clearly and walking by faith becomes more easy to do.

Psalm 73:28 (NKJV) 28 But it is good for me to draw near to God; I have put my trust in the Lord GOD, that I may declare all Your works.
