Bible Verse of The Day – 10-5-17

1 Kings 3:5 (NKJV) 5 At Gibeon the Lord appeared to Solomon in a dream by night; and God said, “Ask! What shall I give you?”

If God appeared to us today and said, “Ask! What shall I give you?”, what would be our answer? What would we want?

Some of us may have a list of things we need more than anything right now. But would that be what God wants to hear?

When God approached Solomon in a dream, Solomon, being a king, asked for one thing. He asked God for an understanding heart to help him to discern.

He knew he did not have the experience to discern justice correctly for the people. He wanted to be pleasing to God and do right by Him. He wanted to help the people and care for them correctly, fairly and justly.

Who was Solomon thinking of when he asked for understanding? Not himself. He could have asked for anything, but he chose understanding.

His answer to God showed his heart condition, and it was exactly what helped him not only get understanding, but everything else that he could have ever needed and wanted.

1 King 3:11-12 (NKJV) 11 Then God said to him: “Because you have asked this thing, and have not asked long life for yourself, nor have asked riches for yourself, nor have asked the life of your enemies, but have asked for yourself understanding to discern justice, 12 behold, I have done according to your words; see, I have given you a wise and understanding heart, so that there has not been anyone like you before you, nor shall any like you arise after you.

What would we ask God for today? Would we give Him the answer He is looking for? The answer that would please Him?

Having wisdom and getting understanding is more precious than material possessions. It is important. It is the very thing that helps us every day in discerning our steps. It helps us to make clear decisions and to take the right actions in any given situation.

Proverbs 4:7 (NKJV) 7 Wisdom is the principal thing; Therefore get wisdom. And in all your getting, get understanding.

What would we ask for?

Bible Verse of The Day – 10-10-16

Proverbs 4:7 (NKJV) 7 Wisdom is the principal thing; Therefore get wisdom. And in all your getting, get understanding.

A large part of the book of Proverbs is dedicated to teaching us the importance of wisdom.

In fact, “wisdom” is used at least 46 times in that one book!

Wisdom is also mentioned in many other places throughout God’s word. It’s safe to say that God wants us to be wise.

In the New Testament, James addressed the issue of getting wisdom. This is the perfect piece of instruction for those of us who wish to become wiser!

James 1:5 (NKJV) 5 If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him.

So as you begin your week, remember this. Wisdom is the principal thing; Therefore get wisdom.

Bible Verse of The Day – 7-29-16

Proverbs 4:7 (NKJV) 7 Wisdom is the principal thing; Therefore get wisdom. And in all your getting, get understanding.

It’s important that we get understanding, or we could end up moving in the wrong thing, at the wrong time.

The Jews didn’t understand what Christ was doing on the cross. They were saying things like “why can’t God deliver Him now?”.

Matthew 27:43 (NKJV) 43 He trusted in God; let Him deliver Him now if He will have Him; for He said, ‘I am the Son of God.’”

They needed God’s understanding. Without it, they had no clue as to what was really happening.

Christ died for us on that cross. In that moment of His death, He made salvation possible for the world!!

His death brought freedom and Salvation to all who will put their faith in Him. He was the perfect, living sacrifice. Holy in all His ways! He had to die to save us.

If God had come at that time and delivered Him from the cross, we’d all end up in hell today. His death on the cross made a way for each one of us to be free.

But Christ did not stay dead. That is the miracle. On the 3rd day, God raised Him up, and He is ALIVE! Amen.

God will give us understanding. We all need it, because His way of doing things is going to be different than the natural way of doing things.

But with His understanding, it helps us to know why things are done the way they are; Why things happen the way they do.

There will be times we will not understand some things. But in those things, we must have faith and trust God with them.

Bible Verse of The Day – 3-2-16

Proverbs 1:5 (NKJV) 5 A wise man will hear and increase learning, And a man of understanding will attain wise counsel…

God’s word has a lot to say when it comes to wisdom.

We’re encouraged to gain wisdom, listen to those with wisdom and heed words of wisdom.

When we’re young, we can be foolish and ignorant in so many ways. We can make a lot of mistakes as we try to find our way through situations we encounter.

It pays for us to seek the advice and counsel of those who are older than us and who have walked through many things in life. Experience has taught them a lot and we can learn much from them.

This is also true when it comes to learning new things, no matter how old or young we are. We can be advanced in our years and still lack knowledge and understanding In many things.

But if we follow God’s advice and seek counsel, we can continue to learn and gain understanding in new areas. And when we do this, it allows us to make choices that are sound.

And this can save us a lot of heartache, headaches and frustration in our lives.

So we encourage you to seek counsel when you need it. Asking questions of people who are more experienced is nothing to be ashamed of. In fact, it’s the smart thing to do.

Proverbs 19:20 (NKJV) 20 Listen to counsel and receive instruction, That you may be wise in your latter days.

Bible Verse of The Day – 1-11-16

Proverbs 1:5-7 (NKJV) 5 A wise man will hear and increase learning, And a man of understanding will attain wise counsel, 6 To understand a proverb and an enigma, The words of the wise and their riddles. 7 The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge, but fools despise wisdom and instruction.

Wisdom is such an important, yet overlooked part of life.

Many times people tend to think that if we’re followers of Christ, we just need to be super spiritual and let God lead us by His spirit, and that we don’t need to think for ourselves.

And while we do need to be led by His spirit, every single day, we also need to heed wisdom and wise counsel in so much of what we do. The two go hand in hand quite often.

There will definitely be times when conventional wisdom doesn’t seem to line up with what God’s spirit is telling us or showing us. We’ve taught on that a lot. But if we’re not getting clear direction from God’s spirit about a situation or a decision, we need to follow wisdom.

The Bible clearly says that if we despise wisdom, we are fools. I don’t know about you, but being a fool is not one of my lifetime goals.

So, as hard as it might seem sometimes, it will always benefit us to wait on God and listen, and seek wise counsel in those decisions that are critical and important.

Bible Verse of The Day – 9-21-15

James 1:5 (NKJV) 5 If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him.

Every day we make choices. Some of them are pretty easy to make, while others require considerable effort, thought and prayer.

The best choices are always made with wisdom. Choices and decisions that are made in haste, or without wisdom, will always lead to trouble.

But even when it comes to wisdom, there is a choice to make.

There is earthly wisdom and wisdom that comes from God. They can be vastly different. And earthly wisdom may not always coincide with the wisdom God gives.

You see, God’s wisdom will sometimes fly in the face of man’s wisdom. God’s wisdom sees things through spiritual eyes and eyes of faith, whereas man’s wisdom sees things only in the natural, and through eyes of intellect and logic.

It’s imperative that we learn the difference and learn to recognize God’s wisdom when making important decisions and choices.

So how do we get God’s wisdom and discern it from man’s wisdom?

Proverbs 2:6 (NKJV) 6 For the Lord gives wisdom; From His mouth come knowledge and understanding; and it will be given to him.

God’s wisdom is found in His word and it is shown to us through knowing His word and through the Holy Spirit.

So if we’re lacking God’s wisdom, we need to seek it. His word tells us to ask of Him and it will be given. And he gives it liberally and without reproach!

Bible Verse of The Day – 1-15-15

Ecclesiastes 7 (NKJV) 12 For wisdom is a defense as money is a defense, But the excellence of knowledge is that wisdom gives life to those who have it.

We can have all the money in the world, and with that money we can buy everything we want and still  feel empty inside.

I’ve seen people have a lot of money and still not be happy, or should I say, still not have life. Money can buy nice things, but it can’t buy us life.

Wisdom gives life to those who have it.

If we don’t have God’s wisdom, we really aren’t living. I don’t think we realize the things that could happen if we moved in God’s wisdom every day, all day long. The things we would see and the things we would do, oh praise be to God!

It’s never too late to start walking in God’s wisdom. We just have to ask Him for it.

What happened when Solomon asked God for wisdom?

2 Chronicles 1:10 Now give me wisdom and knowledge, that I may go out and come in before this people; for who can judge this great people of Yours?”

God loved that Solomon asked Him for wisdom and knowledge, not for himself, but so he could do what God called him to do correctly. Guess what God did for Solomon.

1 Kings 3:12 behold, I have done according to your words; see, I have given you a wise and understanding heart, so that there has not been anyone like you before you, nor shall any like you arise after you.

God loved what Solomon asked for and He gave it to him. He went even further than that and gave him what he didn’t ask for as well!

1 Kings 3:13 And I have also given you what you have not asked: both riches and honor, so that there shall not be anyone like you among the kings all your days.

Solomon’s heart was in the right place and he wanted to do what was right to help the people. We haven’t lived until we have walked in God’s wisdom!

Ask God for wisdom and an understanding heart today, that we may live and make a difference.  Amen.
