1 Chronicles 29:12-13 (NKJV) 12 Both riches and honor come from You, And You reign over all. In Your hand is power and might; In Your hand it is to make great And to give strength to all. 13 “Now therefore, our God, We thank You And praise Your glorious name.
David knew where his riches came from and that it was very important that he set them aside toward building the temple of God.
His treasures and riches were not for his security, comfort, or ease of mind.
When we can do what David did, giving his possessions to God for the building of His temple, then we know that our heart is close to being like David’s.
And what did God say about David’s heart?
That He has a heart after Me!
Acts 13:22 (NKJV) 22 And when He had removed him, He raised up for them David as king, to whom also He gave testimony and said, ‘I have found David the son of Jesse, a man after My own heart, who will do all My will.’
David wasn’t a perfect man, but his heart was longing to do God’s will.
You see, when we have a heart after God, it means that our want to obey God is bigger than our want for ourselves.
In David’s case, he worked hard to gather and store supplies for the construction of God’s temple. He gave much toward the work of the house of God.
1 Chronicles 29:3 (NKJV) 3 Moreover, because I have set my affection on the house of my God, I have given to the house of my God, over and above all that I have prepared for the holy house, my own special treasure of gold and silver:
This is a hard thing when you take what you’ve earned and you give it away. It’s not easy for some people to justify it. Our heart must be in the right place to give it away to God’s work.
David’s heart was toward the things of Heaven more than anything else.
Matthew 6:19-21 (NKJV) 19 “Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal; 20 but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves do not break in and steal. 21 For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.
Kingdom work should be a priority for every believer, over and above our accumulation of wealth and gain here on earth.
God is speaking to our hearts today. What will we do?
Will we take the riches we have here on earth and invest them in Kingdom work, or will we lay up treasures for ourselves here?
Let us be serious and prayerful today; He will direct our steps.
