Bible Verse of The Day – 1-24-15

James 1:5 (NKJV) 5 If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him.

We can ask God for wisdom today and He gives it to us liberally and without reproach, meaning He gives it freely; it doesn’t cost us anything. The only thing we have to do is acknowledge the fact that we need it, and ask Him for it.

It’s sad that He is so willing to offer it to us, but yet we don’t think at times to ask. It could save us a lot of problems, if we would just ask.

Some of us have a hard time asking God for anything, for whatever reason. Maybe we don’t want to ask Him because we feel that we have everything we need and we know their are others who are worse off, and we feel funny asking God for certain things.

It’s good that we are compassionate, caring and put others before ourselves; that’s a good quality to have. But there comes a time when we have to ask God for things for ourselves as well, and not feel guilty about it or feel like we are being ungrateful or greedy, etc.

God wants us to ask Him for things and not be shy about it. Take a step today and ask God for the things we need; maybe it’s wisdom today, but maybe tomorrow it’s something else. It doesn’t have to be a need, it could be a desire. Either way, ask Him.

Matthew 7:8 (NKJV) 8 For everyone who asks receives, and he who seeks finds, and to him who knocks it will be opened.

Bible Verse of The Day – 8-12-13

(Philippians 4:6-7 NKJV)  Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; {7} and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.

Praying for the things we need and being thankful for where we are at will bring peace in our life.

Do we always need to see everything we pray for before we are thankful for it? This is the question we need to ask ourselves today.

How many times do we pray for things and then walk around with a doom and gloom face, negative attitude, and angry at the world, until we get what we asked God for?

This is not how it happens with God. This is a bratty, selfish and childish way.

When we do this, WE are trying to manipulate God and others into doing what we want. We are saying to Him, “God, I have asked you for what I need and now I am not going to be happy or thankful until I get what I asked for”.

This might have worked when we were little and our parents gave in to us, but I guarantee you this will NOT work with our Heavenly Father.

This childish behavior has to stop in all of us. This will not get God to move for us in any way, shape or form. This behavior will cause more problems and slow the process down.

So let’s put away the pout face, the attitude and the agenda and start praying. And let’s be thankful and let God’s peace and understanding guard our hearts today! Amen

Bible Verse of The Day – 7-19-13

James 4:3 (NKJV) You ask and do not receive, because you ask amiss, that you may spend it on your pleasures.

We all ask God for something.

We have wants, needs and desires that we bring before Him. Sometimes we get exactly what we asked for. Other times we get something close to what we asked for. And yet, other times we don’t get anything. In fact, sometimes we wonder if God is even hearing us at all.

Sometimes there is no clear-cut explanation for this. We wonder why we’re not getting what we asked for. We wait. We pray some more. But still no answer.

Many times when we ask God for something, we ask with a motive. Human nature can be very slick, and sometimes we ask for something under the guise of “using it for the kingdom of God”. But in reality, we have selfish motivations.

We should be thankful that God sees our motives for what they are! Despite the fact that we get our feelings hurt when we don’t get what we want, it’s usually a good thing when God sees fit not to answer our selfish requests. It’s for our own good.

If we all take a look back on our lives, it would be pretty safe to say that every single one of us can recall times when we got something we wanted, only to find out later on that it ultimately hurt us instead of helping us.

So if we’re not getting what we’re asking God for, let’s be honest and ask Him to show us if maybe we’re asking amiss. The truth can hurt sometimes, but it’s the truth that sets us free.

Bible Verse of The Day – 5-10-13

(John 14:14 NKJV)  “If you ask anything in My name, I will do it.

We have a sump pump in our basement. The pump has been kicking on every few minutes to pump out the water for the past several weeks.

The power went out at our house the other day, which meant that the pump stopped working. I panicked!

My husband wasn’t home at the time and I did not know how to use the generator. I never had to hook it up before. I called my husband and he raced home. He was rushing around to get the generator set up so we could get the pump turned back on. Well, just as he pulls the chord to start it, it breaks.

Here we sit now, not knowing what to do; we don’t want our basement to get water in it. I turned to God and I said, “Lord, we need you to turn this electricity back on immediately. In Jesus’ name we ask. Amen”.

Within seconds after that prayer, the power kicked back on! I said to myself,  “it was that simple”. We didn’t get any water in the basement and I truly was blessed to know that God moved so quickly and that was all we had to do was ask.

Sometimes we just need to ask.
