Bible Verse of The Day – 3-11-21

John 15:3-4 (NKJV) 3 You are already clean because of the word which I have spoken to you. 4 Abide in Me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, unless it abides in the vine, neither can you, unless you abide in Me.

Our motive every day needs to be to learn to remain in God.

Our journey in life is meant to be used to grow closer to Him while we are here.

It’s not that we will never face anything hard, because we will. But it’s about going through those hard times and learning how to remain in Him, even when things are rough.

It is only Him that can get us through those tough and painful moments that life will hit us with. Nothing else will keep us moving forward in this life.

Some things may make us feel better for a period of time. They may even appear to give us hope and make us think it’s good for us. But we will soon find out that it’s not the real deal. It won’t carry us all the way through.

The truth of the matter is, as we remain in God through faith in Christ, we will live by His strength and bear much fruit!

Amen.

Bible Verse of The Day – 11-25-20

John 15:4 (NKJV) 4 Abide in Me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, unless it abides in the vine, neither can you, unless you abide in Me.

Abide in Me and I in you.

How many times have we read this and we just blew right by that first sentence and kept going without giving it a second thought?

That’s not good!

That first sentence is a major component of our walk with God. In fact, the word “abide” actually has a very deep meaning in this verse.

So, let’s take a look.

Abide: continue, stay, remain, persist, hold on.

Now look at how it’s used in this verse.

Jesus said that if we abide in Him, He will abide in us.

There are two implications here.

Most of us will instinctively think of it as meaning that we need to stay close to Him or stick by Him. And this is true. When we abide (stick with, stay close to) Him, He will stick with us.

Maybe even more important, though, is this; if we are truly a believer (a follower of Christ), if we have embraced Him (put our faith in Him) and our heart has truly changed, (which it should do if our faith in Him is genuine) we will not depart from Him.

If we believe, we will abide (stick with, stay close to). If we do not believe, we will not abide.

This isn’t very often taught. Mostly because it is overlooked, as I mentioned at the beginning of this devotional. But sometimes it isn’t taught because it is a hard teaching; one that’s not easy to speak nor easy to hear and receive.

But truth is truth. And truth needs to be spoken, even when it is hard to swallow. Truth, after all, will set us free if we embrace it.

John 8:32 (NKJV) 32 And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.”

Bible Verse of The Day – 7-3-19

John 15:7 (NKJV) 7 If you abide in Me, and My words abide in you, you will ask what you desire, and it shall be done for you.

We all wonder sometimes why our prayers seem to go unanswered. We seek, and we ask. And the answer doesn’t seem to come.

There can be various reasons for this, but the verse above holds the key to why some of them may not be given to us.

Actually, one word is the key: Abide

Abide: accept or act in accordance with (a rule, decision, or recommendation).

Abide can also mean to obey, to conform to, to heed, etc.

Once we understand the importance of this, abiding in Him and His words abiding in us, we can start to take steps toward making this happen in our lives.

To be clear, it’s not something legalistic or ritualistic. It’s a heart thing. It has to be sincere in its execution, not done with impure motives.

And in reality, if we are making efforts to grow our walk with God, this will all happen naturally, without us even giving it a thought.

So, let’s be sure that we are putting the time and effort into drawing closer to God each day, by spending time in His word and taking the time to communicate with Him personally.

And as we do this, so many other things will fall into place for us.

James 4:8 (NKJV) 8 Draw near to God and He will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners; and purify your hearts, you double-minded.

Bible Verse of The Day – 1-2-19

John 15:5 (NKJV) 5 “I am the vine, you are the branches. He who abides in Me, and I in him, bears much fruit; for without Me you can do nothing.

“For without me you can do nothing”.

These are words we need to pay close attention to. They are words very often overlooked by most people, including the church.

Much of what we hear today about how we should live revolves around putting ourselves on one kind of pedestal or another.

We are told that we should put ourselves first, and then worry about others. We are told that many of the problems people experience are due to “low self-esteem”. We are told to “look out for number 1”. And we could build a lengthy list of other such things we are barraged with on a daily basis.

In all of these, it all comes down to me, me, me.

And while God has made us in His own image, and He wants us to prosper and be in good health, we need to remember that without Him, we can do nothing.

This doesn’t mean that we should walk around thinking that we are worthless. On the contrary, we are worth so much that God sent His Son to die for us.

But our worth doesn’t come from ourselves. It comes from God himself. It comes from the fact that He has made us. We didn’t make ourselves. We didn’t breathe life into ourselves. And we surely can’t sustain ourselves without Him. If we think we can, we are fooling ourselves badly.

If we are to be anybody at all, we need to abide in Christ, so that He can abide in us. Did you catch what Jesus said right there? We need to abide in Him so He can abide in us. If we are not abiding in Him, He cannot abide in us. That’s not something we hear much about.

The Gospel has been watered down to the point that it’s more about emotional highs and “warm fuzzies” than it is about this foundational truth of abiding in Him. This is why so many people struggle to “find themselves” and to feel like they’re worth something.

Romans chapter 12 teaches us a lot about being humble and presenting ourselves as living sacrifices, telling us that doing so is our reasonable service to God.

We are also told that nobody should think more highly of himself (or herself) than they ought to think.

Romans 12:3 (NKJV) 3 For I say, through the grace given to me, to everyone who is among you, not to think of himself more highly than he ought to think, but to think soberly, as God has dealt to each one a measure of faith.

Keep God first in everything. Lift Him up in all that we do. Abide in Him, so He can abide in us.

In this we will bear much fruit, and we will find ourselves in the process.

Bible Verse of The Day – 12-16-16

John 15:5 (NKJV) 5 “I am the vine, you are the branches. He who abides in Me, and I in him, bears much fruit; for without Me you can do nothing.

Most of us want a better relationship with God. We want to know how to strengthen our walk with Him and have that closeness that our spirit longs for. And we want our lives to be fruitful.

So how do we make that happen?

Jesus laid it out for us in the verses above; We need to abide in Him. If we abide in Him, we will bear much fruit.

What does that mean? What do we have to do to abide in Him?

It means that we stay close to Him. It means that we do whatever is necessary to remove the barriers between ourselves and Him, allowing us to draw near to Him. It means that we put Him first in everything, even if it means giving up some things that we like or that mean a lot to us.

Just like raising plants that produce fruit, which takes hard work, so it is with our walk with God. It takes work.

We get out what we put in. If we put only a small effort into it, we will get only a little fruit out of it. But if we give it our all, we will get so much more out of it.

But the key isn’t to focus on what we will get out of it. The key is to build that relationship because we want a closer walk, because we love Him above all else.

And when we get that right, when we get our priorities in order, then we will see things fall into place. And our walk with God will become so strong that nothing can interfere with it. Ever.

Bible Verse of The Day – 4-30-15

1 Corinthians 13:2 (NKJV) 2 And though I have the gift of prophecy, and understand all mysteries and all knowledge, and though I have all faith, so that I could remove mountains, but have not love, I am nothing.

In the verses above, Paul is letting us know how important it is to walk in love, and that having gifts, understanding, knowledge and faith means nothing if we don’t have love. Love should always be what motivates us to do what we do.

We can’t just do things out of habit, out of routine, or ritual. When we do things for Christ, it should be from our hearts.

Doing things out of love is what makes all the difference in the world. It is what moved Jesus and it should be what moves us.

Ephesians 5:2(NKJV) 2 And walk in love, as Christ also has loved us and given Himself for us, an offering and a sacrifice to God for a sweet-smelling aroma.

Let love guide us in our actions, our deeds, and in our prayers.

Bible Verse of The Day – 1-22-15

John 14:23(NKJV) 23 Jesus answered and said to him, “If anyone loves Me, he will keep My word; and My Father will love him, and We will come to him and make Our home with him.

We can tell God we love Him as much as we want, but if we don’t show Him by following through and walking His word out, then it is all simply words with no actions. It says in James 1:22 (NKJV) 22 But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves.

Are we being deceived today by thinking everything is fine and dandy in our walk with Christ? Do we continue to listen to the word, but not do anything about it? Do we fail to let it change us or our situation?

When we fall in love with Jesus it will cause us to want to keep His word. Will we be perfect at it? No. But we can’t let that stop us from trying until we get it right.

None of us are perfect at it, but the important thing is we keep on trying.

We know that Jesus loves us no matter what, but He wants to make His home in us.

Keep His word today.
