Tag: Bible verses about building your relationship with God

Bible Verse of The Day – 5-30-23

1 Thessalonians 5:16-18 (NKJV) 16 Rejoice always, 17 pray without ceasing, 18 in everything give thanks; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.

Why do we have to rejoice, pray, and give thanks? Because it is the will of God for us.

These are the things we must do to build up our relationship in God.

We often get asked the question, “how do we know what God is saying?”. And we always answer by saying, “get close to Him”.

How do we get close?

Knowing what scripture tells us to do, and then obeying it, will definitely get His attention.

He will draw near to us as we draw near to Him.

He will be so near to us that we will instantly be convicted when we are about to make a wrong move.

What a beautiful life!

He will show us in advance if we are about to do something wrong or if someone is about to take us out or cause us harm.

And by obeying what God shows us to do regarding it, we will avoid the situation and keep on moving forward. Wow!

It doesn’t come easy. We have to make an effort to get close to God to achieve such discernment.

By listening to His word and doing it, we will surely grow closer.

Start here by rejoicing, praying and giving thanks from our hearts, and we are on our way to a closer walk with Him.

Bible Verse of The Day – 6-28-22

Luke 10:27 (NKJV) 27 So he answered and said, “ ‘You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your strength, and with all your mind,’ and ‘your neighbor as yourself.’ ”

This verse is a fitting description of a healthy marriage! And it applies perfectly to our relationship with God.

It teaches us about a relationship so strong and deep that nothing can defeat it. It is a love that sacrifices much.

It takes two, who ultimately come together as one.

How does this happen?

We start by giving Him our heart, and letting Him clean us up.

Maybe there are some things we need to let go of. Maybe we are struggling with addictions. Maybe we have some deeply rooted obsessions.

But, we are starting by saying, “yes, we want to change. And we want this relationship with Him”.

And then, the journey begins.

Just like any relationship or marriage, there are going to be sacrifices on both sides. This is not a one way street.

And so it is in our relationship with our Heavenly Father.

He set the example by giving to us first; His ultimate sacrifice. His only begotten Son, in exchange for our life. He gave first because He loved us first.

1 John 4:19 (NKJV) 19 We love Him because He first loved us.

There are some things we must do in this relationship. We have to make decisions to separate ourselves from certain worldly things, people, and lifestyles.

What sacrifices do we need to make today to help our relationship grow stronger with Him?

Will we be willing to do that? Will we give up the very things that He calls out; that thing that comes between Him and us?

With each sacrifice we make (and there may be some deeply rooted attachments involved) the more real this scripture will become in our lives.

And as we do this, the stronger our relationship will grow to be with our Heavenly Father. Amen.

Bible Verse of The Day – 5-14-22

Zechariah 1:3 (NKJV) 3 Therefore say to them, ‘Thus says the Lord of hosts: “Return to Me,” says the Lord of hosts, “and I will return to you,” says the Lord of hosts.

The more time we spend in God’s word, the more proof we will see that our relationship with Him is reciprocal.

We give, He gives back.

It’s important to note that this is not just referring to our finances. It goes much deeper than that.

You see, it boils down to this; He wants our whole heart, not just a piece of it.

The word of God is loaded with references to Him drawing near to us if we will draw near to Him (James 4:8).

And we are told that we will find Him if we seek Him with all our heart (Jeremiah 29:13).

It’s critical for us to understand that, with God, we get what we give (Galatians 6:7).

In other words, He wants us to take action in our walk with Him, not just be passive and complacent.

The rewards for this are endless. But we need to be careful that we don’t seek Him because we’re looking for rewards.

We seek Him because we want to know Him more deeply.

And knowing Him more deeply will forever change us.

Our heart, our actions, our thoughts and our words will all be deeply affected by a sincere, wholehearted relationship with our Father and Creator.

Draw near to Him. We dare you!

Bible Verse of the Day – 10-16-20

1 Kings 8:22-23 (NKJV) 22 Then Solomon stood before the altar of the Lord in the presence of all the assembly of Israel, and spread out his hands toward heaven; 23 and he said: “Lord God of Israel, there is no God in heaven above or on earth below like You, who keep Your covenant and mercy with Your servants who walk before You with all their hearts.

These two verses were a small part of a lengthy prayer spoken by Solomon before the people of Israel. Solomon spoke this prayer after the ark of God had been transported and moved into the temple that he had built for God.

Today we want to focus on the last of the two verses, and more specifically, the last part of that verse; “Your servants who walk before You with all their hearts”.

As Solomon spoke before the people, he reminded them that God is faithful, as he reflected on God setting His people free from slavery in Egypt.

He then went on to address God Himself, stating that “there is no God in heaven above or on earth below like You”.

And then he qualified that statement with this: You keep your covenant and mercy with Your servants.

But he stated that God kept His covenant and mercy with a specific group or type of servant. Who were they? They were those servants “who walk before You with all their hearts”.

Now, this is not to insinuate that God always ends or nullifies His covenant, or removes His mercy, if people are unfaithful to Him. There are examples in His word where He did exactly that if He saw it was warranted.

But the emphasis here is that Solomon wanted people to understand that people whose hearts were wholly dedicated to God would receive God’s blessings in their fullness, not just in part.

This is the message we so frequently try to convey to the body of Christ. It is what we want so badly for all believers to understand.

To be clear, it isn’t even about the blessings. It’s more about that incredible walk with God that He wants us to have, so that we experience Him in His fullness and in a way that is truly life-changing.

So, we urge you today to walk before God with all your heart.

Bible Verse of The Day – 4-27-20

Romans 10:17 (NKJV) 17 So then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.

If there is one thing that God has shown me over and over again, it is this; You have to have your own faith and your own walk. Nobody can believe for you or walk the walk for you.

So many of us look at others around us and like what we see. We long to have what they have when it comes to their faith or their relationship with God.

While that might seem innocent, it really means that we are either lacking terribly in our walk with God, or it means that we are coveting what someone else has because we don’t think we can have it.

Here’s the good news, though!

We don’t need to want someone else’s walk with God. Why? Because He wants us to have one of our own that’s even better!

This doesn’t mean that our walk with God will be better than theirs. It means that our walk with God will be better for us because it will be ours, not theirs.

God wants us to build our relationship with Him so we can commune with Him in a way that’s meaningful and helpful to us. If all we do is mimic someone else, we will be left wanting. We will never feel complete, and our spirit will not be getting the nurturing and sustenance that it needs to thrive and grow.

How do we do this? We let God feed us and nurture us through His word.

We feast on His word daily. We take it in. We digest it. We ponder on it. We let it soak into our spirit. And we let it permeate our very being.

Then, a little tiny bit at a time, it will begin to change us, from the inside, out.

And, in time, it will not only become something that we can’t live without, but it will change almost everything about us in ways that we never even dreamed possible.

Bible Verse of The Day – 2-14-20

2 Corinthians 5:18 (NLT) 18 And all of this is a gift from God, who brought us back to himself through Christ. And God has given us this task of reconciling people to him.

God brought us back to Himself through Christ. He reconciled us back to Him.

Apart from the reconciliation that He set in motion, we can do nothing to get close to Him. We can do nothing to redeem ourselves from our sins. We can do nothing to save ourselves.

But He has made it possible for us to walk with Him, side by side. And He made it possible for us to go to His throne directly, by tearing the veil that once separated us from Him.

Mark 15:38 (NKJV) 38 Then the veil of the temple was torn in two from top to bottom.

Not only has He given us permission to go to Him personally and directly, but His word says we can now go boldly to the throne!

Hebrews 4:16 (NKJV) 16 Let us therefore come boldly to the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need.

Now, this doesn’t give us permission to be brazen or irreverent, demanding what we want from Him for personal gain.

It says we can go boldly to find mercy and help in time of need. There is a huge contrast between that and making bold demands of Him for selfish reasons.

So, the reconciliation that He provided through Christ erased the divide that existed between God and man, making a way for us to have a one-on-one relationship with the Creator of heaven and earth.

No longer are we limited to knowing Him from a distance, referring to Him only as God. But He made it possible for us to call Him Father, understanding that once we embrace the sacrifice that Jesus made for us, and put our faith in Him, that we are now His child.

Amen

Bible Verse of The Day – 5-6-19

Exodus 33:11 (NKJV) 11 So the Lord spoke to Moses face to face, as a man speaks to his friend. And he would return to the camp, but his servant Joshua the son of Nun, a young man, did not depart from the tabernacle.

Moses had a special relationship with God.

God had chosen him to lead His people out of slavery in Egypt. Moses could have refused to do it. But he didn’t. He chose to do what God was asking him to do.

Even beyond that, Moses grew this special relationship to go even deeper than most everyone else we read about.

And God did some special things for Moses, too. He met with Moses. He talked with him. And He even chose to show Himself to Moses. But He told Moses that he could not see His face, since no man can see God’s face and live.

Exodus 33:20 (NKJV) 20 But He said, “You cannot see My face; for no man shall see Me, and live.”

God even told Moses where to stand when he passed by, so He could cover him with His hand to protect Him.

Exodus 33:22 (NKJV) 22 So it shall be, while My glory passes by, that I will put you in the cleft of the rock, and will cover you with My hand while I pass by.

Some of us may look at this and wonder why Moses had such a special relationship with God. Well, to be honest, he put the effort forth, and he reaped from that effort.

But it’s important that we remember that even though Moses had this kind of relationship with God, he wasn’t treated any differently by God than you or I.

God still held Moses to certain levels of accountability. And when Moses didn’t live up to those expectations, he was disciplined by God for it.

Moses had disobeyed God at one point, so God told him that because of his disobedience, Moses would not be allowed to enter into the promised land.

Deuteronomy 32:52 (NKJV) 52 Yet you shall see the land before you, though you shall not go there, into the land which I am giving to the children of Israel.”

You see, God is not partial. He shows no favoritism with any of us.

Romans 2:11 (NLT) 11 For God does not show favoritism.

God is God. He is holy and pure in every aspect. He will treat you and I the very same way He treated Moses. And our relationship with Him will be as strong as we make it.

Bible Verse of The Day – 4-24-19

Colossians 2:6-7 (NKJV) 6 As you therefore have received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk in Him, 7 rooted and built up in Him and established in the faith, as you have been taught, abounding in it with thanksgiving.

Walk in Him, rooted and built up in Him.

This is the Christian walk, summarized in just 9 words. This is also the answer to so many of the questions we have.

How do I hear God better? How do I know what God wants for my life? How do I grow my faith in God?

These are questions that so many of us ask. And we wrestle with finding the answer that will “unlock the secrets” we desire to understand better.

But as we continually wrestle with this, the answer is actually right in front of us; as we have received Christ Jesus, so walk in Him.

And how do we walk in Him? Rooted and built up in the faith.

These are not something that we attain simply by desiring them to be so. They require persistence, perseverance, tenacity and resolve.

We need to pursue them relentlessly with a mindset that says “never quit, no matter what we face”.

And as we pursue God, we will find Him.

Jeremiah 29:13 (NKJV) 13 And you will seek Me and find Me, when you search for Me with all your heart.

He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him (Hebrews 11:6).

This all comes together and begins to fall into place as we lay aside the fringe benefits, so to speak, and we seek only the Source of those benefits, the One who holds it all in His hands.

Seek Him and you will find Him. Amen

Bible Verse of The Day – 2-27-19

2 Timothy 2:13 (NKJV) 13 If we are faithless, He remains faithful; He cannot deny Himself.

We may become weak at times. We might be unfaithful to Him in one way or another. We may pull away and hide ourselves from Him because of shame or fear. We may even doubt Him.

But no matter what we do, no matter how we might fail Him, He can never fail us.

He remains faithful.

He cannot deny Himself. He is the epitome of truth. There is no darkness found in Him.

1 John 1:5 (NKJV) 5 This is the message which we have heard from Him and declare to you, that God is light and in Him is no darkness at all.

When our faith and trust are in Him, we can find no stronger anchor, no ground that is more stable and no foundation that is more solid.

He is the very core, the foundation of faith. Without Him, there is no faith to be had. And as such, His promises will always be true.

Bible Verse of The Day – 2-26-19

2 Timothy 2:12 (NKJV) 12 If we endure, We shall also reign with Him. If we deny Him, He also will deny us.

If we endure, we will also reign with Him.

Endure, withstand, bear, tolerate, brave, suffer, persist.

These are all words indicating a struggle or suffering of some kind.

As we follow Christ on this earth, we will face trials at times because of our faith. This doesn’t always mean faith-induced face-to-face persecution. But because we are a believer, we may have to make choices that we would otherwise not make if we were not believers.

Living by the Spirit of God requires us to make moral choices that tend to largely go against the grain of today’s thinking. These choices can cause us to take paths that may be more difficult than other paths just by the nature of the choice itself.

We may even face occasional loss because of those choices. We may lose friends. We may lose income. We may lose any number of other things. But we will not lose our walk with God, our Sustainer.

Interestingly, verse 12 tells us that if we do choose to endure, we will reign with Him. But if we give up, and we choose to deny Him, He will also deny us.

These are some pretty tough words. They are words that should cause us to wake up when we read them or hear them. These words should shake us from our slumber.

But we need to remember that He never, ever expects us to endure alone, or by our own strength. He has given us His spirit to help us and comfort us.

John 14:16 (TLB) 15-16 “If you love me, obey me; and I will ask the Father and he will give you another Comforter, and he will never leave you.

So, take heart. Press in to Him.

Draw near to Him and He will draw near to you (James 4:8).
