Tag: Bible verses about defeating the devil in our lives

Bible Verse of The Day – 3-2-22

James 4:7-8 (NKJV) 7 Therefore submit to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you. 8 Draw near to God and He will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners; and purify your hearts, you double-minded.

Many believers endeavor to defeat satan in their lives.

They read books. They watch videos. They seek answers from other believers.

It seems to be quite the mystery for so many people. Because of this, they struggle with sin year after year.

And this constant struggle with sin leads to other things, such as depression, a constant feeling of defeat, or possibly even a withering and drying up of their faith.

That’s right. They walk away from God because they feel like there is no possible way to defeat the enemy in their lives.

The problem with this is that their expectations aren’t realistic. Why? Because they want God to defeat the enemy for them.

They pray for God to do so. They have others pray with them for God to make it happen. They stand in prayer lines and have people lay hands on them for the same reason.

And yet, their lives don’t change. The devil is not defeated in their lives.

So, what’s the answer to this dilemma? How can satan be defeated once and for all in the life of a believer?

Submit to God. Resist the devil.

Both of those phrases require action on the part of the believer. And yes, they require work; sometimes very hard work.

Submitting to God requires humility on our part. We have to admit that we need Him and that we’re unable to do this on our own.

Resisting the devil is also hard work. Sometimes it’s extra hard.

But here’s the key to this whole thing; if we submit to God, resisting the devil becomes a whole lot easier!

It’s our submission to God that helps us fight off temptation and sin. Once we have submitted to Him, everything about us begins to change. The more we submit to Him, the more He changes us.

And when we allow Him to radically change us, the enemy no longer has that death grip on our lives.

Submit to God. Resist the devil.

That’s how we defeat the enemy in our lives.

Bible Verse of The Day – 10-22-21

Genesis 3:1 (NKJV) 1 Now the serpent was more cunning than any beast of the field which the Lord God had made. And he said to the woman, “Has God indeed said, ‘You shall not eat of every tree of the garden’?”

In his effort to deceive man and cause disobedience to take place, satan used two tactics.

The first was doubt.

He used questions to cause Eve to doubt that she had heard God correctly when she was told not to eat of the tree in the middle of the garden.

He never came right out and told her that it was OK. He simply got her to question what she had been told, causing her to second-guess God’s instructions and step out in disobedience.

The second was isolation.

Eve was alone, with nobody to help her fend off this attack.

Because Adam wasn’t there, Eve was left to try to sort through this assault on her own.

This left her vulnerable, relying solely on her own strength to fight back.

And in the end, she lost the battle.

We need to be careful not to let doubt cause us to fall. When we know that God has said something is so, we need to stick to that like glue, not allowing the enemy to use the questions of others to pull us off track.

And we need to stick together as followers of Christ, children of God, so we can help each other fend off these attacks.

Remember that the verse above says that “the serpent was more cunning than any beast of the field”.

That serpent was satan himself. We need to be aware of his ways and his tactics, so we can learn how to avoid him and defend ourselves and our faith against his onslaught.

Bible Verse of The Day – 11-18-20

Isaiah 54:17 (NKJV) 17 No weapon formed against you shall prosper, And every tongue which rises against you in judgment You shall condemn. This is the heritage of the servants of the Lord, And their righteousness is from Me,” Says the Lord.

It’s no secret that the devil is our #1 enemy.

He is bent on destroying each and every one of us, if he can possibly do so.

1 Peter 5:8 (NKJV) 8 Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil walks about like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour.

Take note of what that scripture said, though. There are clues as to how to prevent the devil from destroying (devouring) us.

Be sober; well-balanced, self-controlled, self-disciplined.

Our actions and our words need to be calculated and chosen carefully, with great consideration, filtered through and weighed by the Holy Spirit, not based on emotions or rash, impulsive thoughts.

Be vigilant; watchful, discerning, cautious, alert, observant, attentive, prepared.

We cannot become complacent or dull. We absolutely need to stay alert at all times against the wiles (devious schemes and tricks) of the enemy.

This is the only way we can stand against his attacks and come through them victoriously and intact. But God doesn’t leave us trying to figure this out on our own. He tells us plainly how to defend ourselves.

Ephesians 6:11 (NKJV) 11 Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.

We learn how to put on His armor as we spend time in His word, getting understanding of who He is, who our enemy is and how to walk with God while repelling our adversary.

It’s all there for us. We just have to be willing to spend the time and make the effort to seek it out!

Bible Verse of The Day – 9-2-19

1 Peter 5:8 (NKJV) 8 Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil walks about like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour.

This is an often-quoted verse. The problem is that we have heard it so many times that maybe we have overlooked what it really means. So, let’s take a closer look.

We live in a world that is constantly barraging us with temptations and distractions. Every minute of every day we have to make choices. We have to choose to do right or do wrong.

It’s not usually complicated. We make the choice to do what pleases God, or we choose to do what pleases our flesh.

But just because it isn’t complicated doesn’t mean that it’s not intricate in its origins or its repercussions. And that is why the verse above is so significant.

The temptations and distractions we face come at the hands of our enemy, the devil. They are not just random or by chance.

Many times, we may set ourselves up for them by things that we do. These things that we do can lead us into temptation.

This is why it’s so important for us to be sober (self-controlled, clearheaded, temperate) and vigilant (watchful, observant, alert, attentive, cautious, wary, prepared).

This allows us to avoid the traps of the enemy and escape them unharmed and whole, not getting caught up in the traps set for us.

Sometimes we may take these things lightly, but it’s important for us to understand that they are serious!

As we read on, we see how serious is it. We are told that he is our adversary (enemy, opponent, combatant, opposition). And he has one goal; to devour (defeat, kill, eliminate, destroy) us.

God has equipped us, given us everything we need to defeat the enemy in our lives. We have His Spirit dwelling in us. We have His word to teach us. And He has given us direct access to Him, through prayer (talking to Him and hearing from Him).

It’s up to us, though, to follow Him closely enough to be able to hear Him and have the desire to do what He shows us to do.

Be sober. Be vigilant.

Bible Verse of The Day – 2-27-18

Luke 4:35 (NKJV) 35 But Jesus rebuked him, saying, “Be quiet, and come out of him!” And when the demon had thrown him in their midst, it came out of him and did not hurt him.

What did Jesus do? He shut up the voice of the liar!

The devil is a liar, and until we shut him up and tell him to be quiet and get out of here, he will keep trying to get us to believe him. He will keep trying to destroy us.

Some of us today are worn out from the fight. We are tired of the battle, and we are slowly caving in to the wrong voice.

Take a moment today and tell the devil to be quiet and get out, in the name of Jesus Christ.

We need to pick ourselves up by the word of God and know who He is saying we are.

Romans 8:37 (NKJV) 37 Yet in all these things we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us.

That’s right, more than conquerors through Him who loved us. Jesus loves us today and has given us a conquering spirit, not a spirit of fear, doubt or defeat.

Don’t listen to the devil. Silence his voice by shutting him up. Walk away and move forward in the things God has for us! Amen.

2 Timothy 1:7 (NKJV) 7 For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind.

Bible Verse of The Day – 8-18-15

Deuteronomy 28:13 (NKJV) 13 And the Lord will make you the head and not the tail; you shall be above only, and not be beneath, if you heed the commandments of the Lord your God, which I command you today, and are careful to observe them.

Sometimes we face things in life that knock us backwards a step or two. And there may be times when we feel like we just can’t get ahead. Can you relate to this?

But we’re here to tell you today that if we are a Christian, a follower of Christ, and we are living according to His word, we are the head and not the tail.

This means that no matter what comes our way, and no matter how bad it seems like we’re getting hit, we will come out on top.

We need to keep our faith strong and keep trusting Him to bring us through with victory, and then let Him do what He needs to do, without us putting Him in a box. And when we do this, He will show us where to put our feet and lead us each day.

And when everything is said and done, if we are obedient, the devil will be under our feet, where he belongs.
