Bible Verse of The Day – 4-11-23

Proverbs 14:22 (NKJV) 22 Do they not go astray who devise evil? But mercy and truth belong to those who devise good.

When used together in their original language, these two words, mercy and truth, mean “constant faithfulness” or “true loyalty”.

Constant faithfulness and true loyalty are attributes of God.

Let’s make this personal.

As children of God, these attributes should also be visible in our lives.

This will bring glory and honor to God.

How do we walk in such a way?

We have to choose God’s desires over our own desires.

This can be hard to do at times because our flesh will fight us.

But as we submit to God, He will begin to change our heart.

As our heart changes, it becomes less difficult to do what God desires. In fact, as God continues to change our heart, His desires will become our desires. And our flesh won’t fight the way it used to.

Allowing God to make this change in us is the only way that we can faithfully walk these attributes out in our lives daily.

Let us be faithful and diligent to obey the Holy Spirit’s leading, that we will be submitted to God in everything that we do.

Bible Verse of The Day – 10-8-21

1 Thessalonians 4:11 (NKJV) 11 that you also aspire to lead a quiet life, to mind your own business, and to work with your own hands, as we commanded you,

As Paul addressed the believers at Thessalonica, he urged them to lead quiet lives.

This is good for us to understand, since quiet lives also help us to be at peace, both outwardly and inwardly.

This is not to insinuate that we should stay at home and never interact with others. But to encourage us to avoid conflict whenever possible, and not to purposely inject ourselves into the affairs of others, stirring up trouble and heated discussions or unnecessary debates.

There is a fine line that we need to try to walk. As believers, we are the salt of the earth and the light of the world.

Salt adds flavor, indicating that believers will indeed create some interesting conversations and scenarios as we bring the truth and light into various situations.

This is not to say, however, that we should intentionally try to “stir the pot”, so to speak, to create tense situations.

Notice also that he urged them to “mind their own business”.

This goes hand in hand with living quiet lives. And it’s something that’s good for us to do.

There will be times when we are required to speak truth. And sometimes that truth will cause people to bristle up.

But we need to heed the Holy Spirit as He leads us and lets us know when to speak and when to be silent.

Colossians 3:15 (NKJV) 15 And let the peace of God rule in your hearts, to which also you were called in one body; and be thankful.

Bible Verse of The Day – 11-21-20

1 Peter 2:9 (NKJV) 9 But you are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, His own special people, that you may proclaim the praises of Him who called you out of darkness into His marvelous light…

We are a chosen people, Lord, and we are crying out to You with a sincere heart in wanting to walk in Your light.

We are a royal priesthood, a holy nation, Your own special people. You called us out of darkness.

Being fake and phony about our walk with You only hurts us and others that we associate with.

If they think we are a believer, and then they see us doing things that unbelievers do…well, that just makes people question You and the legitimacy of Who we say we have faith in.

We are sorry if we have just been going through the motions; If we have learned the Church lingo but deep down we have not changed our lifestyle, our words, actions or our addictions.

We have lived a fake walk up to now.

We have not fooled You and we don’t fool others who are watching. They can tell by our ways who and what we follow. Having a bible in one hand and living a worldly lifestyle in the other won’t cut it any longer.

Today, we sincerely cry out to You, God; forgive us. We want all of You and Your teachings/statutes to touch our hearts and change us so that we may walk in your ways each day.

That we may share love, and not hate. That we may not gossip, but turn away from those conversations that may lead us otherwise. That we may not be negative, but instead, speak life into situations and into peoples’ lives.

Help us, God, to be Who You say we are; Your own special people. Amen.

Bible Verse of The Day – 10-2-19

Psalm 1:3 (NKJV) 3 He shall be like a tree Planted by the rivers of water, That brings forth its fruit in its season, Whose leaf also shall not wither; And whatever he does shall prosper.

This is a well-known verse that is quoted very frequently.

People tend to use it to encourage and uplift others that they know.

As with anything else in God’s word, it’s important to be sure and use specific verses properly, and in their intended context. This verse is no different!

The important part of this verse that helps us better understand the intended context is the very first word, “He”.

So, this verse is telling us that He shall be like a tree planted by the water. But who is “He”?

Verses 1 and 2 give us the answer. Let’s take a look.

Psalm 1:1-2 (NKJV) 1 Blessed is the man Who walks not in the counsel of the ungodly, Nor stands in the path of sinners, Nor sits in the seat of the scornful; 2 But his delight is in the law of the Lord, And in His law he meditates day and night.

So, verse 1 starts off with the word “Blessed”. Who is blessed? The man who chooses not to walk in the counsel of the ungodly, stand in the path of sinners nor sit in the seat of the scornful.

So, “He” refers to the person who walks uprightly (godly, righteously).

Verse 2 tells us that this person’s delight is in the law of the Lord. And he meditates on it day and night.

The law of the Lord, in its broadest sense, refers simply to God’s word and His truth. So, this person not only avoids ungodly behavior, but they also spend time (day and night) studying and meditating on (pondering on) God’s word.

Now, let’s put this all together!

Who is like a tree planted by the water? The man or woman who lives a godly life (led by the Holy Spirit) making righteous choices, and delights in studying and meditating on God’s word, day and night.

Let each of us pray that we will be like this. And if we are lacking anywhere in our walk with God, let’s ask Him to give us the strength to improve in those areas where we might be lacking.

Bible Verse of The Day – 8-31-19

Genesis 6:9 (NKJV) 9 This is the genealogy of Noah. Noah was a just man, perfect in his generations. Noah walked with God.

We want to focus on the word “walked”, and what it means.

A just man, or blameless man, is someone that walks very close to God.

God teaches them to do things with integrity. He teaches them discipline. He teaches them to love unconditionally.

As we endeavor to be a just man or woman, He teaches us to stay away or back away from the things that will defile us. And the most important thing, the thing that will help us to walk with God, is that we listen and take heed when He shows us something.

Walking with God is really about staying clean in our heart, doing the right thing versus doing the wrong.

As we do this, it will help our mind to follow suit.

Our minds can get us into some trouble, as we all know. We can think of some awful things to do and say at times. We have to keep our mind still and in obedience to righteousness. Check it continually with God’s word.

In 2 Peter 2:5, Peter called Noah a preacher of righteousness. Noah’s walk and his love for God showed up through the things he did on a daily basis. He was a good man!

Let us ask God today about our walk with Him. What are people seeing when they see us? Do they see integrity? Do they see a person trying to live righteously? Do we inspire them with His love?

1 John 2:6 (NKJV) 6 He who says he abides in Him ought himself also to walk just as He walked.

Bible Verse of The Day – 7-20-19

1 Thessalonians 4:7-8 (NKJV) 7 For God did not call us to uncleanness, but in holiness. 8 Therefore he who rejects this does not reject man, but God, who has also given us His Holy Spirit.

Learning to live a clean life is all part of being God’s child.

We are probably going to have to let some old habits go, and pick up some new ones. We may have to let go of certain friends, as well, and those things that affect us in a bad way.

For instance, maybe we have enjoyed hanging out with certain people up until now. Changing our stance in life will cause us to change our surroundings. We may no longer feel comfortable being around certain situations, or certain types of entertainment and activities. We may find ourselves troubled or getting irritated when we are.

This is not a bad or negative thing. It is normal. It is the voice of holiness speaking to uncleanness saying, “you are not welcome here any longer.” And we can’t reject the voice of holiness.

When we become God’s child it will feel like we are more conscious of our behavior and actions. We will be convicted strongly at times. The worst thing we can do is to ignore it. It will only cause us to be miserable.

If we let holiness live and speak to us, and we follow that leading, we will remain in the peace of God.

Philippians 4:7 (NKJV) 7 and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus

Bible Verse of The Day – 4-18-19

Colossians 3:1-3 (NKJV) 1 If then you were raised with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ is, sitting at the right hand of God. 2 Set your mind on things above, not on things on the earth. 3 For you died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God.

We live in a carnal world. All of the things around us can sometimes make it difficult to “set our minds on things above” if we don’t make a conscious, deliberate effort to do so.

But there are a few things we can do that make it much easier!

First, we need to guard our hearts and minds and protect ourselves from the many onslaughts that we come up against on a daily basis. These come through many different channels, such as TV, movies, music, places we go, various websites we may visit, etc.

They can also come by way of people we interact with, since not everyone has the desire to know God or live a righteous life. And if we tend to hang around some of these people regularly, their actions and attitudes can rub off onto us if we’re not careful.

In light of these many kinds of influences, we can see that we are constantly being hit with lots of not-so-good stuff!

So, how do we combat it, and keep our minds on things above?

Here it is, in a nutshell. We stay alert and be watching and listening for God’s Spirit to prompt us and warn us of things or people that are not good influences. And when He prompts us or warns us, we heed what He says!

Our discernment, and our ability to “hear” God may not be very sharp. But we can let Him fix that by spending time in His word and letting it permeate our very being. When His word is in us, we will be able to hear Him more readily.

Limit what we see and hear. Be careful of who we spend too much time with. Spend time in His word. Heed the Holy Spirit.

Those 4 things, if we’re faithful and diligent to do them, will impact our lives in a huge way and help us to set our minds on things above.

Bible Verse of The Day – 9-29-17

Ephesians 5:1 (NKJV) 1 Therefore be imitators of God as dear children.

Have we ever watched our children as they grew up, or even now as they are growing up, and sometimes catch them acting the same way we do in certain situations?

They may even have our same mannerisms. That’s right, they act like our little minis.

Why? Because they are imitating what they see us do. Sometimes it’s a good thing. We get all excited and feeling good on the inside. And we think “Aw, look at little Johnny. He’s just like me”.

Then other times, it’s not so good when they are acting the way we do. They may even get in trouble for doing what they are doing, even though we were the ones that taught them to do it that way.

Being God’s children, we should all strive to act like Him. We don’t have to worry when we imitate Him. Everything He does is good, just and RIGHTEOUS!

We can go all out and act like our Heavenly Daddy and it will just trickle down into our children’s lives as well.

Following our earthly fathers may get us into some trouble. Be safe, be sure and imitate the One who is perfect in all He does; Our Heavenly Father!

Bible Verse of The Day – 3-11-17

Ephesians 4:20-23 (NLT) 20 But that isn’t what you learned about Christ. 21 Since you have heard about Jesus and have learned the truth that comes from him, 22 throw off your old sinful nature and your former way of life, which is corrupted by lust and deception. 23 Instead, let the Spirit renew your thoughts and attitudes.

Let the Spirit renew your thoughts and attitudes.

That one short sentence is the sum of what we need to do in order to live a life that’s fulfilling, and pleasing to God.

Sometimes our old ways, the way we did things before we met Jesus, will pull on us and try to bring us backwards. Back then, we lived in darkness. We thought lies were truth. We had no understanding of who God really was and what the death and resurrection of Jesus meant for us.

But today, if we are followers of Christ, it’s important that we only look back to our old selves as a reminder of where He has taken us from and then where He has brought us to. Our thoughts and desires shouldn’t still be looking back, longing for the past.

Jesus has given Himself for us, paying the ultimate price to offer us freedom from sin and death. He wants us to live and walk in that freedom each and every day. And the freedom that He gives us is better than anything the world, or our past, can offer us.

Let’s be careful that we don’t overlook this incredible gift and get caught up in our past ways.

All it takes is letting the Spirit of God renew our thoughts and our attitudes.

Bible Verse of The Day – 12-24-16

Psalm 128:1 (NKJV) 128 Blessed is everyone who fears the Lord, Who walks in His ways

We may find it hard in some situations to choose the way of the Lord, versus the way of man or the way of the world. However, if we choose the Lord’s way and stick to it, we will be thankful and blessed that we did.

Some people may look at us at times and think “why would we live the way we do?”, thinking we are missing out on so much, and thinking that we have no fun. But, they only see with their eyes of flesh.

Those who live their lives the way they want and rebel against the things of God may think they are getting away with it, and things may seem great for awhile. They may even think “oh it’s so much better this way”. But just know, that if they don’t change it up and get their hearts right with God, they will have to answer for their life.

Let us keep praying for this world. God is faithful to help those who are living in rebellion if they are willing to give Him a chance. He will not give up on any of us. No matter how long it takes, He will wait for us.

Keep walking in the ways of the Lord. Keep sticking to what is right. Be strong in the Lord!

Joshua 1:9 (NKJV) 9 Have I not commanded you? Be strong and of good courage; do not be afraid, nor be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.”

We are blessed!
