Bible Verse of The Day – 12-21-23

Psalm 34:18 (NKJV) 18 The Lord is near to those who have a broken heart, And saves such as have a contrite spirit

I don’t claim to understand death.

But what I have experienced is that death is just as much a part of life as living. We are all going to face it one day, in one way or another.

I just want to share my heart today with you, in hopes that it might help someone who is going through a hard time due to losing a loved one, or maybe we are facing a terminally ill situation ourself.

Just the word, death, is hard to hear. It’s not pleasant to talk about.

When it hits, it leaves behind emptiness, pain, and sorrow, often causing us not to know what to do or how to move forward.

When death comes, everything changes for a season.

Our confidence, comfort, and the joy we once walked in seem to have left. It can be hard to even smile or laugh.

The truth is, it’s hard no matter who we are.

When we lose a dear one, someone who has been there, someone we had a relationship with, someone we loved, cared for and looked forward to seeing, it’s shocking to our system. We suddenly cannot find them.

It is overwhelming to our minds that they are gone; no longer to be found or heard in the other room, or seen where they enjoyed being everyday.

Just like that, their life as a human being on this earth has ended.

Yes, we will mourn.

We will go through a season of adjusting to life without them.

We will feel many emotions. And some days we will wonder if we will make it without them.

We will even ache deep within, as we adjust to the change.

If I can help just one person today. I want to say to you, “take it one day at a time”. Don’t go any further than that.

No one expects you to be someone one you’re not.

Some days will be so hard to keep going. But if we put one foot in front of the other, over time, we will adjust to the loss, and better days will come.

After a while, that ache will turn into joy from the beautiful memories we had with them. And we will thank God for those treasured times we spent together!

He knows what we will go through. He is near and will save us. He will help restore our broken heart and bring peace to us once again.

Go now, and rejoice today, for the Lord has conquered death. And those who believe in Him will not die, but live forever.

As for those who we have lost? Their story is just continuing in paradise, and we will meet up again!

Amen. Pastor Curt & Pastor Ellie

Bible Verse of The Day – 12-17-22

Psalm 118:24 (NKJV) 24 This is the day the Lord has made; We will rejoice and be glad in it.

Have you ever been sad but happy at the same time?

Today I can relate to this.

Just last night my little brother left this earth and went to His heavenly home.

He was a gentle person at heart, but yet he was so strong. He was a mason by trade and very good at it.

His life was short here. We just never know how long our journey will last on this earth. But thank the good Lord, it’s not over when this old body gets sick or tired.

I will miss him, and that’s the sad part; his voice, his laughter, his way about him.

But to know where He is will forever bring me joy! My heart is grateful today, for he was a believer!

That’s the happy part. That’s the part that keeps me and holds me together.

God made this possible for all those that believe in His Son, Jesus Christ. We have His Peace even when we go through heavy times and times of mourning.

Isaiah 61:3 (NKJV) 3 To console those who mourn in Zion, To give them beauty for ashes, The oil of joy for mourning, The garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness; That they may be called trees of righteousness, The planting of the Lord, that He may be glorified.”

Stay close to Him. Rejoice in this day and put on the garment of praise. Glorify Him for He is our Rock! This is the day He has made! Amen

Bible Verse of The Day – 2-22-21

2 Samuel 12:20 (NKJV) 20 So David arose from the ground, washed and anointed himself, and changed his clothes; and he went into the house of the Lord and worshiped. Then he went to his own house; and when he requested, they set food before him, and he ate.

David had betrayed one of his own men, Uriah, a mighty warrior in Israel’s army.

While Uriah was away at battle, David slept with Uriah’s wife, Bathsheba, and she became pregnant with his child.

Ultimately, David had Uriah positioned in battle so that he would be killed by enemy soldiers.

David then brought Bathsheba to the royal palace, making her his wife.

The prophet Nathan confronted David with his sin, and David was told that, because of what he had done, the child that had been conceived would surely die.

The child was born, and God struck the child so he became ill.

When David saw this, he prayed, fasted and pleaded with God to let the child live.

He laid on the ground, forsaking food for 7 days. Then, the child died.

David’s servants were afraid to tell him of the child’s death. But he perceived that they were distressed, and asked them if the child had died. They confirmed that he had died.

At hearing this, David arose, washed, changed his clothes and then went and worshiped God.

After doing this, he went to his table and requested food.

His servants were baffled by his behavior. They couldn’t understand why he would simply get up, wash and move on with his life after losing a child. They couldn’t comprehend his seeming lack of sadness and mourning.

The thing is, though, that David did mourn. He was sad.

But he chose to get up and move on because he knew that there was nothing he could do to change the outcome of the situation. Nothing that he did would bring his son back. Nothing that he did would undo the consequences of his sin.

This is something that we can all learn from.

Way too often we spend our time looking back, wishing we could change an outcome or undo a choice that we made that caused a less-than-desirable consequence.

None of that does us, or anyone around us, a single bit of good. It is a waste of our time and energy and, in reality, it dishonors God and His sovereignty.

It can also be an insult to those around us, as we push them away in favor of “chasing the past”, trying desperately to hold onto what is gone, instead of holding on to, and appreciating, what (and who) we have right in front of us.

Trust God. Look ahead. Be grateful for His provision and His blessings.

Bible Verse of The Day – 11-26-19

Luke 2:34-35 (NKJV) 34 Then Simeon blessed them, and said to Mary His mother, “Behold, this Child is destined for the fall and rising of many in Israel, and for a sign which will be spoken against 35 (yes, a sword will pierce through your own soul also), that the thoughts of many hearts may be revealed.”

Mary, the mother of Jesus, experienced piercing anguish at the cross, when her Son was crucified for us.

Piercing anguish means to have severe mental or physical pain or suffering. To be extremely distressed about something.

There is such a thing as anguish, and many people suffer from it. Maybe we’ve had a loss, or something very bad has happened to us that has hit us deeply.

It has pierced our soul, and we cannot seem to get past it. The memory runs over and over in our head, and it is all we see no matter how hard we try to stop it.

No matter how hard we try to erase it or forget it, it just won’t go away. The pain is unbearable and there is nothing in life that will help it subside.

You are not alone. Your anguish is real, and it is painful.

Mary went through this same pain. She suffered physically as she watched her child be nailed to the cross and die for our sins. He was innocent, but yet treated like a criminal.

Jesus might have died on that cross, and Mary may have felt it, suffering greatly to the piercing of her soul, but a wonderful thing was birthed from it all.

Victory came!

There was a purpose for it all. Redemption for each one of us.

Jesus defeated death. He rose again, and He has made a way for us to dance, even during our time of mourning!

He made a way to let go of our pain and receive healing, deliverance, and eternal life. It is all ours through His death.

No more anguish; throw off the sackcloth and ask Jesus to take your pain and give you gladness.

Psalm 30:11 (NKJV) 11 You have turned for me my mourning into dancing; You have put off my sackcloth and clothed me with gladness…

Bible Verse of The Day – 3-14-19

Ecclesiastes 3:4 (NKJV) 4 A time to weep, And a time to laugh; A time to mourn, And a time to dance…

Are we grieving over someone or a situation today?

We should not take our feelings lightly. Pay attention to them. Don’t push them down and hold them in. Take the time we need to fully recover.

Loss is a natural part of life, and grief is a natural part of loss. It’s important that we don’t cut ourselves short and suppress it. We need to go through it, to weep and to mourn at times.

Our health and the state of mind that we are in are important to God. What we are going through will either make us or break us, depending on whether we take the time we need to go through it properly. How we feel and how we function each day depends on the time we take to tend to our own needs.

A lot of times people won’t get their full healing because they put everyone and everything else before themselves. They put themselves last and just keep plowing through every day, hurting from the grief they carry.

You are important and you need your time to heal.

We can’t ignore it and work long hours to get through it, pretending it’s not there. We have to face it. And when we do, God will show us what it will take to come out of it feeling better, stronger and healthier.

Grieving over anything should only last for a season not our whole life. Being happy must come again.

Take the time we need to heal, to get some clarity, to get past the things that cause us to weep and then let dancing come again! Amen.

Bible Verse of The Day – 4-23-18

James 4:13-14 (NKJV) 13 Come now, you who say, “Today or tomorrow we will go to such and such a city, spend a year there, buy and sell, and make a profit”; 14 whereas you do not know what will happen tomorrow. For what is your life? It is even a vapor that appears for a little time and then vanishes away.

Life. We so often look at it as though it will last forever.

But we will all one day realize that life here on earth is temporal and fleeting.

It seems that every week during the last few months we have been reminded again and again of the fragility and fleetingness of life. It truly is only a vapor that is here and gone before we know it.

Friends, acquaintances, family and loved ones leave us, and leave a gaping hole in our hearts, as we say goodbye to them and mourn their passing.

Today we celebrated our oldest grandson’s 11th birthday. Such young life, full of vitality and energy! And so incredible to watch as he grows up right before our eyes, as are all four of our grandchildren.

But even as we watch them grow, we also say goodbye to others. And our hearts ache with the loss. It’s something that we all deal with at different times in our lives; Loss and mourning.

But know this; God wants us to let Him help our hearts heal. No, the person we have lost can never be replaced. But God can touch our hearts and heal them in a way that we might never think possible, if only we will let Him.

So, today we continue to remind everyone about how precious life is, and how not one person reading this is promised a tomorrow. So be sure to love those around you with your whole heart. Forgive and ask for forgiveness quickly.

Take the time to do those things that you want to do with those who are close to you. Don’t leave yourself open to living many years of regret when someone you love passes from this life to eternity.

Life is here. And then it is gone. Let’s live it while it’s here. And love while we can.

Bible Verse of The Day – 10-3-14

Ecclesiastes 3:4 (NKJV) 4 A time to weep, And a time to laugh; A time to mourn, And a time to dance…

This verse encourages us to weep, to laugh, to mourn and to dance.

There are going to be times when we will find ourselves doing these very things and there is nothing wrong with doing any of them.

Some people get upset when they see grown men cry. They may think it’s not right for men to cry. Well, Jesus cried.

John 11:35 (NKJV) 35 Jesus wept.

It’s OK for men to weep and let it out. Some people may not even know how to cry, because they were taught to be strong and hold those tears back.

In order for us to be able to laugh again, sometimes we may need to weep; get some things off our chest, so to speak. It may be the very thing we need to do in order to let some things go.

Mourning is another one. There will be times when we need to mourn. How will we ever get past letting something go if we don’t take the time to mourn? Go ahead and mourn. This is a natural process that we must go through if we ever want to be able to laugh and dance again!

The important thing to remember is that this verse says, there is, “a TIME”, meaning we shouldn’t remain weeping or mourning forever. There comes a time of laughing and dancing as well!

If you find yourself stuck in mourning for someone or something and you can’t seem to get past it, there may be something that you are struggling with letting go of or facing. It’s going to take you asking God to show you what you are still hanging onto and why. He will help you with this as you sincerely seek Him for the answer.
