Bible Verse of The Day – 4-16-24

John 16:22 (NKJV) 22 Therefore you now have sorrow; but I will see you again and your heart will rejoice, and your joy no one will take from you.

The Lord is encouraging the disciples here, and letting them know what is to come.

The grieving and sorrow that they will soon experience will be short lived. He will bring joy upon their hearts once again.

In times of grief or anguish, trusting can be hard because we can’t see ahead and know how it will play out.

In that moment when everything is overwhelming, we must trust and believe what Jesus is telling us.

We often have thoughts of failing when we are going through an unknown season. It feels lonely and heavy at times.

That’s normal for all of us to feel. This is where we really have to persevere and keep on doing what we know to do.

Our own flesh will attack us with all kinds of “what ifs” or doubts about what we think we heard or what we are doing.

In times like this, remember the reason why we are doing what we are doing, and stand firm.

Know that trust is not about being able to see and have answers right away, but knowing what we were shown or were told will come to pass in God’s timing.

Just as Jesus told the disciples their hearts would rejoice again, it surely happened, and better then they could have imagined!

Acts 13:52 (NKJV) 52 And the disciples were filled with joy and with the Holy Spirit.

Are we having doubts today? Do we feel like Jesus has pulled back? Maybe we feel like He is silent?

Don’t be sorrowful or discouraged today. What He told you in the beginning will come. He is working out the details.

Continue to believe and trust Him, even in these moments when we don’t see anything happening, we don’t hear anything, or when we feel sad and lonely. Keep pressing on.

1 Peter 1:8 Deeply love and believe in Jesus even though you can not see Him.

He is there for us and preparing things. Amen.

Bible Verse of The Day – 2-19-24

Mark 12:41-44 (NKJV) 41 Now Jesus sat opposite the treasury and saw how the people put money into the treasury. And many who were rich put in much. 42 Then one poor widow came and threw in two mites, which make a quadrans. 43 So He called His disciples to Himself and said to them, “Assuredly, I say to you that this poor widow has put in more than all those who have given to the treasury; 44 for they all put in out of their abundance, but she out of her poverty put in all that she had, her whole livelihood.”

Over the years, I have realized that many Christians have it all wrong when it comes to their giving.

What do I mean by that?

I mean that many Christians who give regularly do so only “when they can afford it” but quickly stop when money gets scarce.

They give what they feel to be a “reasonable” amount until things get financially tight. Then, when things get a little tough, they forfeit their giving. They quit.

Rarely do people like this tithe. They feel that giving 10% of their income is too much to ask. And they may even say that tithing was an Old Testament thing related to The Law.

This line of thinking goes something like this; Money has gotten tight, so I can no longer afford to give to God.

And how do I know this?

Because I used to be one of those Christians. I would give each week, usually far less than what would be considered a tithe. And then if things got tough, I would stop giving. I would quit.

But if we look at the example above, with Jesus observing the people as they “put money into the treasury”, He never suggested that the poor widow should not tithe or give according to her income.

On the contrary, He noted that she gave more than the rest despite her poverty.

This flies in the face of thinking that we should give what we can afford, and then we stop giving if things get tough.

Many years ago, during one of the toughest times we faced financially, God spoke very clearly to us and told us that we needed to tithe, trusting Him with our finances and our situation at that time.

We had no idea how that would work out, since we were already not able to keep up with our bills.

But we obeyed. We trusted God and took Him at His word, and we began sowing 10% of our income each week, even though I was unemployed, and we were living on very little income.

We didn’t look at it as us making a sacrifice. We looked at it specifically as us obeying God.

You see, it was all His money anyway. We were just stewards who had been entrusted with managing what He had provided.

And as we stepped out in obedience, He began to show us how trustworthy He is.

No, hordes of money did not suddenly come rolling in. And no, our situation did not instantly go from bad to excellent.

But as we continued to trust Him and obey Him, He slowly worked things out.

Some bills that we owed were mysteriously marked as “paid in full” with no explanation as to how or why.

Putting Him first in our finances taught us how to be diligent and faithful with what He had provided for us.

And, over time, He pulled us out of the hole we had gotten into.

That was roughly 30 years ago. And we have never looked back.

No matter what has hit us, we have never stopped obeying God. He still comes first. We still obey Him.

And He continues to prove that He is faithful. He is still the same yesterday, today, and forever.

There is none like Him.

And we can attest to the fact that tithing is never about whether we can afford it or not.

It is about whether we trust God or not.

Put him first. Obey Him. You will never regret it.

Bible Verse of The Day – 9-25-23

Jeremiah 17:14 (NKJV) 14 Heal me, O Lord, and I shall be healed; Save me, and I shall be saved, For You are my praise.

As a prophet of God, Jeremiah faced many struggles and trials. He was heavily persecuted for his obedience to God’s voice as he shared the words that God gave him to speak.

Because of these heavy persecutions, Jeremiah often expressed his concerns to God regarding his safety and wellbeing.

This resulted in Jeremiah being dubbed “the weeping prophet” by some.

Through all the trials and persecution, though, Jeremiah never wavered in his faith or his trust in God.

His absolute trust was readily expressed in the prayer above, as Jeremiah earnestly asked God to deliver him from those who persecuted and tormented him.

And even during the troubles that befell him because of his prophecies, he never ceased speaking the word of God to those whom God directed him to speak it.

He never shrunk back.

He was a notable example that you and I can look to as we walk through our own times of persecution or trials.

When things are easy for us, trusting God and following Him are effortless. But how will we react when seasons of persecution hit, or we face a difficult trial?

These are the times we need to understand and recognize God’s sovereignty.

It is His sovereignty that should give us hope and show us that our trust in Him is well placed.

Fear not, brothers and sisters in Christ!

Our trust in Him is not misplaced. He will walk us through whatever we face if we allow Him to.

And it is in Him that we will find our strength, our solace, and our joy as we move, one step at a time, toward victory.

Bible Verse of The Day – 9-23-23

Psalm 89:8 (NKJV) 8 O Lord God of hosts, Who is mighty like You, O Lord? Your faithfulness also surrounds You.

Have we ever felt that, even as a believer, we have no control over most things?

We think we have it all together. But if certain things were to fall through right now, we may not handle it too well.

And we would be left crying out for help just like everyone else.

We are not alone if we feel like that at times. It shows us that we are human.

Some people will say, “just have faith and it will work out”.

There is truth in that. However, there are steps that we may be required to take. Even in that it takes time to work it out.

And during that time, however long it takes, we will go through a lot of emotions; some ups and some downs. And there may be moments of just wanting to give up.

The most important thing to remember isn’t the lack of control we have over most things, but that we have the MIGHTY One, our Lord, to bring us through whatever we face.

His faithfulness surrounds us! Amen.

Jeremiah 1:19 (NKJV) 19 They will fight against you, But they shall not prevail against you. For I am with you,” says the Lord, “to deliver you.”

Be encouraged today. Our deliverer is at hand.

Bible Verse of The Day – 7-3-23

Psalm 46:10 (NKJV) 10 Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth!

What a fitting verse for the times in which we are living!

How hard our minds work sometimes to try to decipher everything that we’re seeing.

But our minds can never fully comprehend or understand it.

Instead, we need to rely on God’s spirit. For only He knows the depths and truth of what is happening.

So, instead of busying ourselves with trying to figure it all out, let us learn to be still, resting in knowing that He has it all in His hands.

He knows what will happen before it is ever played out.

He is still on the throne.

And nothing happens that He does not allow.

Our emotions will wreck us if we allow them to.

But the Holy Spirit brings comfort, peace, joy and strength as we follow His leading and heed His voice.

Be still. Let God be God.

Amen

Bible Verse of The Day – 12-31-22

Romans 4:20-21 (NKJV) 20 He did not waver at the promise of God through unbelief, but was strengthened in faith, giving glory to God, 21 and being fully convinced that what He had promised He was also able to perform.

Sometimes God requires us to do hard things.

Sometimes those things seem downright impossible. But that’s because we look at them through human eyes, analyzing them by human standards.

Serving God fully requires that we change that, learning to look at things through God’s eyes, by the power of the Holy Spirit.

Abraham had to do this. He had to look beyond his age and Sarah’s dead womb to believe that God’s promise of a son would be fulfilled.

God is the God of the impossible. He is miraculous in His nature. He does what man says can’t be done in ways that man could never even conceive in his finite mind.

This is something that we all need to remember and hold close to our hearts.

It’s something that we need to be reminded of every now and then, so we don’t lose hope and let our faith in Him falter and grow dim.

On the contrary, as we face challenges and impossible situations, our faith needs to grow stronger, not become weak and impotent.

Abraham was 100 years old when Isaac was born. Sarah had not been able to conceive or bear a single child her entire life.

Despite this seemingly impossible situation, God made good on His promise. And Isaac was born.

This is our God; the God who makes the impossible more than possible by His mighty hand.

Matthew 19:26 (NKJV) 26 But Jesus looked at them and said to them, “With men this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.”

Bible Verse of The Day – 12-5-22

1 Kings 19:3 (NKJV) 3 And when he saw that, he arose and ran for his life, and went to Beersheba, which belongs to Judah, and left his servant there.

Elijah was a great man of God; a powerful prophet who knew God’s strength and faithfulness.

He accomplished many great things as God’s prophet of that era.

Knowing this, it would seem that Elijah was without fear.

But that’s not true.

Elijah was a human, just like you and me. But after a mighty victory against 450 prophets of Baal and 400 prophets of Asherah, he became scared. And his fear drove him to run into the wilderness and hide beneath a tree, fearing for his life.

You see, Elijah very quickly forgot what God had just done through him. He forgot that God was his source of strength. And he forgot about God’s faithfulness.

He let his enemy (Jezebel) get into his head, and he started operating by his emotions, instead of by the spirit.

And fear kicked in, causing him to run.

After he escaped into the wilderness, he begged God to take his life. He had gone from a mighty, conquering warrior of God to a fearful, tearful man, hiding from a woman who had threatened him with harm and death.

There, as he wallowed in fear and self-pity, he collapsed and fell asleep.

But an angel of God came and woke him, urging him to arise and eat, and giving him instructions to leave and go to a mountain where he would meet God.

God did meet him there. And He showed Himself to Elijah in a very powerful way.

He had a chat with Elijah to correct what was going on in his mind. And then He sent Elijah on another mission.

So, what can you and I learn from this? What can we apply from Elijah’s situation to our own lives?

We need to always remember God’s sovereignty. We need to always remember God’s provision. And we need to always remember God’s mercy.

You see, God never abandoned Elijah. It was Elijah’s emotions that got the best of him and caused him to become fearful.

God never punished Elijah for the fear he displayed or for the pity party he engaged in. Instead, God spoke with him, helped him get understanding, and then sent him on another mission.

And while He visited with Elijah, God showed Himself to him as He passed by the mountain.

God showed Elijah mercy and compassion. And in that mercy and compassion, Elijah drew strength from God and went on to complete all that God had for him to do.

Bible Verse of The Day – 12-2-22

Job 42:10 (NKJV) 10 And the Lord restored Job’s losses when he prayed for his friends. Indeed the Lord gave Job twice as much as he had before.

Job had been through quite an ordeal.

He had lost his family, his possessions and his health. And to top it off, his wife and friends were giving him very bad advice.

Job had spent a fair amount of time speaking words about God that were not favorable. He demanded an audience with God so he could question God on some things that were bothering him.

Some of those things included questioning God about the way He handles injustice, and the evil that he had seen play out over his years.

Ultimately, God had come to Job and corrected Job’s incorrect assumptions and ideas. And Job repented.

God also scolded Job’s friends for their foolish words and horrible advice for Job.

Here is a key thing we can learn from what transpired.

God told Job’s friend, Eliphaz, that he and his other friends had aroused God’s wrath against them because they had spoken incorrectly about Him. And then He told them to make a very specific sacrifice and let Job pray for them, “lest I deal with you according to your folly”.

Eliphaz and his friends obeyed God, as did Job, who then prayed for his friends and saved them from God’s wrath.

Because of Job’s repentant heart, and his obedience to God, God restored what Job had lost, and increased it.

And while some may focus on the fact that Job’s possessions were doubled, that’s not truly what’s important.

What is important is that Job repented and obeyed God. And it was this that caused God to restore Job’s losses.

Finally, it’s interesting to note that the words used in the original text actually said that God “turned the captivity of Job”, meaning that God released Job from the captivity of his situation. And then He restored his fortunes.

The key takeaway from all of this?

Stay humble. Repent. Trust in God’s sovereignty.
