Bible Verse of The Day – 8-3-22

Revelation 22:20 (NKJV) 20 He who testifies to these things says, “Surely I am coming quickly.” Amen. Even so, come, Lord Jesus!

I remember reading through the entire book of Revelation back in early 1984. I had found Christ about 4 years prior to that, but had not really grown much as a believer.

At that point in time, though, I had really begun to hunger for God, and I wanted to learn more about who He was, and what His word had to say.

I had read through the entirety of the New Testament and then worked my way through Revelation.

What I read in the book of Revelation was mind-blowing, to say the least. It was so loaded with symbolism that it made my head spin.

And then, as I read through the various “bowls of the wrath of God on the earth”, I was glued to what I was reading, not able to put it down, despite it being in the wee hours of the morning, when I should have been sound asleep.

And when I read the final verse of that final chapter, I took in these words: “Amen. Even so, come, Lord Jesus!”.

Those words were forever burned into my spirit. And since that night (actually, early morning), they have been my favorite words in the entire Bible.

You may ask why those words are my favorite, especially in light of the fact that they refer to some very catastrophic things that need to happen on the earth.

They are, after all, saying, “even so, come, Lord Jesus”, which would indicate that John was acknowledging the terrible things that he had been shown were to happen prior to Jesus coming back to the earth.

So, John had been shown what was to come, including some very hard things to swallow. And yet, he beckoned Jesus, “even so, come”.

Those very same words resonate within me each and every day. Despite what is to come, and the destruction that accompanies it all, these words represent the completion of God’s plan and His redemptive work on earth.

Even today (especially today), I hold those same words close to my heart, longing for God’s work to be completed in the earth. Not because I want to see the destruction of all that we know, but because I know that His will is perfect and best because He is sovereign.

So, as we watch evil rear its ugly head in ways unseen since the days of Sodom and Gomorrah, trying to pervert everything that is good, I long for God’s righteous judgment in the earth.

And even though I know that His judgment includes some terribly destructive things that need to happen, I say, just as John did, “Even so, come, Lord Jesus”. Let your will be done in the earth.

Amen

Bible Verse of The Day – 8-16-21

2 Peter 3:10 (NKJV) 10 But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night, in which the heavens will pass away with a great noise, and the elements will melt with fervent heat; both the earth and the works that are in it will be burned up.

As we watch the events of the day unfolding around the globe, those who have eyes to see may be wondering what all of this means with regard to the return of Christ.

More specifically, many are asking when.

There is a curiosity that causes us to ponder on the timing of the return of Christ and the judgment of God upon the evil that has taken place over the centuries.

This is a great question, and one that we all should be considering in one form or another in light of current events. But it’s also a question with no definitive answer. Let me explain.

God has purposely hidden the timing of these types of events from human eyes and human understanding.

Why?

Because God operates on faith in everything that he does. Our entire walk with Him is based on trusting Him, even though we have never seen Him, and we have limited understanding of the way He moves and operates.

And while there are many prophecies (hundreds and hundreds) that can give us a rough idea of some kind of markers to go by, so many of these prophecies are intertwined with each other, and with other events, that it is literally impossible to accurately sort them all out.

Jesus Himself said that no man would know the day or the hour of His return.

Matthew 24:36 (NKJV) 36 “But of that day and hour no one knows, not even the angels of heaven, but My Father only.

It’s plain that God doesn’t want us knowing the exact timing.

With that said, though, here is the most important thing to know: We need to live like it’s going to happen today.

We need to walk with God as He desires us to do, pressed in closely to Him, letting nothing come between us and Him.

We need to be sure we put Him first in everything we do, giving Him precedence in every aspect of our lives.

And we need to keep our eyes on heavenly things, not worldly things, being sure to be ready if that day arrives during our lifetime.

Faith. Perseverance. Trust.

Bible Verse of The Day – 9-23-16

1 Thessalonians 4:16-17 (NKJV) 16 For the Lord Himself will descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of an archangel, and with the trumpet of God. And the dead in Christ will rise first. 17 Then we who are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And thus we shall always be with the Lord.

We live in troubled times.

We talk about this fairly frequently. Why? Because it’s part of all of our daily lives. We see so much happening around us that points to end times… the last days.

We know beyond a doubt that it’s getting close. Very close, in fact. Many, many Biblical prophecies have been fulfilled and we see signs everywhere; Increasing natural disasters, non-stop wars, escalating terrorism, heightening racial tensions across the globe, a rapid decline of morality and increase in self-centeredness. And so many other things.

Yes, generations before this one have also dealt with these things, but it has escalated rapidly during the last 15 years and has now become a massive global problem. There is no nation that is immune to any of this.

And so what do we do about it? How does this affect us in our daily lives?

We love God first and foremost. We put Him first in everything.

And then we love those around us with His love. We continue to be the salt and the light that He has called us to be.

And we keep looking up. We keep our eyes focused on Him. We can’t get caught up in hype. We can’t get so focused on the events around us that we lose track of who we are in Christ.

And we hold onto God’s peace. No matter how bad it gets, or how terrible things look, we hold fast to Him. For He is our source of hope and strength.

And we don’t try to figure out when it will happen. Yes, there are signs all around us. But we need to remember that God’s timetable is never the same as ours. And Jesus Himself said that nobody will know the day or time in advance.

Matthew 24:36 (NKJV) 36 “But of that day and hour no one knows, not even the angels of heaven, but My Father only.

So, in the meantime, we just need to keep doing what Jesus told us to do; loving those around us, making disciples of all nations and loving God with all our hearts.
