Bible Verse of The Day – 8-3-22

Revelation 22:20 (NKJV) 20 He who testifies to these things says, “Surely I am coming quickly.” Amen. Even so, come, Lord Jesus!

I remember reading through the entire book of Revelation back in early 1984. I had found Christ about 4 years prior to that, but had not really grown much as a believer.

At that point in time, though, I had really begun to hunger for God, and I wanted to learn more about who He was, and what His word had to say.

I had read through the entirety of the New Testament and then worked my way through Revelation.

What I read in the book of Revelation was mind-blowing, to say the least. It was so loaded with symbolism that it made my head spin.

And then, as I read through the various “bowls of the wrath of God on the earth”, I was glued to what I was reading, not able to put it down, despite it being in the wee hours of the morning, when I should have been sound asleep.

And when I read the final verse of that final chapter, I took in these words: “Amen. Even so, come, Lord Jesus!”.

Those words were forever burned into my spirit. And since that night (actually, early morning), they have been my favorite words in the entire Bible.

You may ask why those words are my favorite, especially in light of the fact that they refer to some very catastrophic things that need to happen on the earth.

They are, after all, saying, “even so, come, Lord Jesus”, which would indicate that John was acknowledging the terrible things that he had been shown were to happen prior to Jesus coming back to the earth.

So, John had been shown what was to come, including some very hard things to swallow. And yet, he beckoned Jesus, “even so, come”.

Those very same words resonate within me each and every day. Despite what is to come, and the destruction that accompanies it all, these words represent the completion of God’s plan and His redemptive work on earth.

Even today (especially today), I hold those same words close to my heart, longing for God’s work to be completed in the earth. Not because I want to see the destruction of all that we know, but because I know that His will is perfect and best because He is sovereign.

So, as we watch evil rear its ugly head in ways unseen since the days of Sodom and Gomorrah, trying to pervert everything that is good, I long for God’s righteous judgment in the earth.

And even though I know that His judgment includes some terribly destructive things that need to happen, I say, just as John did, “Even so, come, Lord Jesus”. Let your will be done in the earth.

Amen
