Bible Verse of The Day – 3-22-13

(1 Corinthians 16:14 NKJV)  Let all that you do be done with love.

When I read this verse the other day it really caught my attention.

I said to myself, “wow, in all that I do I should do it with love”. That day I took some time and paid close attention to myself and the way I handled certain things. I watched and listened carefully, making sure that when I did something, it didn’t matter what it was, I did it with the right attitude.

I caught myself at times and had to adjust my attitude. It was good for me to be aware of it and address it right then and there, while I was in the moment.

Why should we do all that we do with love? Because this is how God’s light shines through us. This is when people see Christ working through us.

It’s love the changes the heart.

Bible Verse of The Day – 2-2-13

(John 13:34-35 NKJV)  “A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another; as I have loved you, that you also love one another. {35} “By this all will know that you are My disciples, if you have love for one another.”

By our love they will know us.

How well do we live this one out? Just reading this verse convicts me. How about you?

Can we honestly say that someone might know that we are a follower of Christ by the love we show to others?

It’s so easy to say that we will love others, but quite a different thing to carry it out. People have a way of getting to us… irritating us and getting under our skin.

Some people just know how to “push our buttons”, so to speak and get us wound up with little effort on their part.

But we are to LOVE them, just as much as we are to love the one who loves us back!

If we are to truly win other to Christ, we need to learn how to love those that God has placed around us, even when it’s not easy!

Bible Verse of The Day – 11-20-12

(Proverbs 10:12 NKJV)  Hatred stirs up strife, But love covers all sins.

I want to touch base on something that God has really been driving home in my life over the past year or more. And He has been teaching me how to really put it into practice each day.

Love conquers all. This is a fact and I am seeing it more and more, and I’m truly beginning to understand the truth end depth of this statement.

Love disarms angry people. Love brings peace into stressful situations. Love forgives when people might not think forgiveness is merited.

You see, we all sin… each and every one of us. There are some who choose to hang onto the sins of others and wave them like flags for everyone to see. There’s something satisfying in this for some people.

These types of people thrive on tearing people down to make themselves look good, and it breaks the heart of God.

And then there are those who choose to love and to forgive, and this pleases God!

(1 Peter 4:8 NKJV)  And above all things have fervent love for one another, for “love will cover a multitude of sins.”

Do you know someone who has sinned? Maybe they even sinned against you.

Love them. It won’t necessarily be easy to do, but God has commanded us to love.

Bible Verse of The Day – 9-10-12

(Mat 5:14 NKJV)  “You are the light of the world. A city that is set on a hill cannot be hidden.”

You are the light of the world!

Do you know who this is referring to? You!

Do you know who said this? Jesus did!

Let me tell you right now that Jesus meant this when he said it. We, followers of Christ, are the light of the world because we have God’s spirit in us.

He has given us His spirit and made us His light so we can share His light and His love with those around us.

This is not the time to be downtrodden. This is not the time to be afraid or depressed. This is the time to be a light to this world that is so full of darkness.

Let us draw so close to God that we emanate His presence wherever we go.

Press into Him. Let Him take your fears and turn them into faith, and as your faith grows let His light in you shine on those all around you.

Bible Verse of The Day – 10-29-12

(Luke 2:10-11 NKJV)  Then the angel said to them, “Do not be afraid, for behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy which will be to all people. {11} “For there is born to you this day in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord.

I sometimes wonder what it must have been like to have lived in this era, when the angels came to announce the birth of Jesus, the savior of the world. My mind can’t comprehend what this must have been like.

But it happened. God sent His son in the form of a baby, born in the lowliest of places. Jesus lived his life with a purpose and fulfilled that purpose, dying the cruelest death on the cross.

This happened over 2000 years ago. Not a generation has gone by since then that hasn’t known about this incredible event. Some chose to believe it, while others have chosen to claim that they don’t believe it at all. Others claim not to have any opinion at all.

But we, the followers of Christ, have a mission of our own. Our mission is to take the love, grace and mercy that we found in Christ and pass it on to others.

We are to love people, even when they are unlovable. We are to accept them as they are, not do everything in our power to change them so we can bring them to God. We are not to judge people… not for how they look, where they come from or any reason that we can think of.

WE are to love them!!

It’s the love of God that draws people, not our criticism, our judgments or our opinions. Jesus came to die for us, and do you know what? He died for them too! And before we were children of God, we were one of them!

Love them all, even when they are unlovable.

Bible Verse of The Day – 10-23-12

(1 John 3:17-18 NKJV)  But whoever has this world’s goods, and sees his brother in need, and shuts up his heart from him, how does the love of God abide in him? {18} My little children, let us not love in word or in tongue, but in deed and in truth.

We, as the body of Christ, His bride, need to come together in One love, for such a time as this. We must pull together and love like Christ loves!

That does not mean that I love you because you are of the same denomination as me, or I love you because you are the same skin color as me. It doesn’t mean I love you because we agree on the same things and have the same opinion. We are not to pick and choose who we love.

No! This love is bigger then all of that. This kind of LOVE loves unconditionally, no matter what the situation, no matter where you’ve been or where you come from, and no matter who you are or what you think.

It’s the kind of love that says “I love you for one reason… because Christ’s love lives in me”.

Step out today. Ask God to show you who He wants you to do something nice for. And then simply do as He has shown you.

Action speaks volumes.

Bible Verse of The Day – 10-13-12

(John 13:34 NKJV)  “A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another; as I have loved you, that you also love one another.”

Love one another.

Jesus gave us a new commandment. He didn’t tell us to be sure to walk on water once per week. He didn’t tell us to be sure to part the seas on a regular basis. And He didn’t tell us to regularly turn water into wine.

Now, don’t get us wrong… these are all miraculous things. But even if we were able to perform these miracles, by the power of the Holy Spirit, on a regular basis, if we didn’t have love, we would be empty and the miracles would be meaningless.

Love is the ultimate gift that we have been given, so that we, in return, can give it to others.

Love conquers all. Love is patient, kind, humble, considerate, hopeful, generous and so much more. When we truly learn to love the way that Jesus taught us to love, it will change our lives and the lives of those around us.

Oh, and by the way, we need to note that Jesus told us that this was a new commandment, not a suggestion!

Love one another.

Bible Verse of The Day – 9-25-12

(1 Cor 13:1-3 NKJV)  Though I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, but have not love, I have become sounding brass or a clanging cymbal. {2} And though I have the gift of prophecy, and understand all mysteries and all knowledge, and though I have all faith, so that I could remove mountains, but have not love, I am nothing. {3} And though I bestow all my goods to feed the poor, and though I give my body to be burned, but have not love, it profits me nothing.

There are so many things we should do as believers and followers of Christ. We should give, we should help others, we should be kind, we should encourage.

We can possess many spiritual gifts and use them all for the sake of the kingdom of God.

We can reach out to people on a daily basis and do mighty works with our hands, our feet and our resources.

But if we do any or all of these without love, they are meaningless in the eyes of God.

Love can be a hard concept when we start to understand that we need to love without boundaries, without conditions and without any kind of prejudice or judgment whatsoever.

But we are commanded to love! It is not optional.

Once we get this and let God pour this into us, we will have a different outlook on everything around us.

Let God show you how to love with HIS love.

Bible Verse of The Day – 9-13-12

(Mat 9:11-12 NKJV)  And when the Pharisees saw it, they said to His disciples, “Why does your Teacher eat with tax collectors and sinners?” {12} When Jesus heard that, He said to them, “Those who are well have no need of a physician, but those who are sick.

It’s so easy sometimes to fall into the same trap that the Pharisees did in this scripture, pointing our finger at someone because they were hanging out with the wrong people.

Jesus spent time with the people who needed Him the most; the sick, the weary and the sinner. He ate with them and talked with them. He showed them love and compassion and He gave them truth, even when it was difficult for them to hear it.

And most of the people he spoke the truth to listened to Him and accepted what He had to say. Why is that? Why did they listen to Him and not run away? Because He spoke to them with love and compassion, not with judgmental, harsh words while looking down His nose at them.

This is a valuable lesson for us all to learn. Sometimes our flesh can get pretty riled up when we see or hear certain things and we can say some pretty harsh things to people. Instead, we need to learn to do as Jesus did and LOVE these people with our actions and our words.

Love is the most powerful thing God has given us to use in teaching others about Him. Let’s walk it out every day, starting with today!

Bible Verse of The Day – 8-14-12

(Mat 9:11-12 NKJV)  And when the Pharisees saw it, they said to His disciples, “Why does your Teacher eat with tax collectors and sinners?” {12} When Jesus heard that, He said to them, “Those who are well have no need of a physician, but those who are sick“.

I want to share something with you today that is a very serious matter. This relates directly to the current state of the body of Christ and the way we see and treat others.

In order to get the point across as clearly and strongly as I can, I want to tell you a little story. Stories help us to see things more clearly sometimes. This might be a bit longer than normal, but I think you’ll see why by the end. So here we go…

Many years ago my family and I were attending a local church. We were there for the Sunday morning service and it was almost starting time. As people filed in and took their seats, a woman who had never been there before made her way through the doors and sat down.

Almost immediately a man got up from his seat and approached her, asking her to please leave because she wasn’t dressed appropriately. The lady was wearing a halter top and this seemed to offend some people because they deemed it to be inappropriate attire for church.

This woman had obviously never been there and had no idea that she was expected to dress a certain way. She came seeking God.

As she got up from her seat to leave, another man in the church intercepted her. He had seen and heard what had happened and offered her a seat next to him and his wife.

This second man showed her love whereas the first man, and those others who had also complained, showed her disdain and self-righteousness… not the love of Christ. They had looked down their noses at her because she didn’t fit the mold that they had established.

Sadly, things like this happen every single day across the globe, inside and outside of church buildings. It happens on the streets and in stores, in work places, in schools and anywhere else where we go.

Man has overstepped their bounds and decided who should and shouldn’t come to Christ, based on the way they are dressed or the way they look. People who have certain haircuts are judged. People wearing certain kinds of clothing are judged. People with certain kinds of tattoos or a certain number of them are judged.

People who drink, smoke or use drugs are judged. Adulterers, fornicators and homosexuals are judged and deemed unworthy to enter the doors of the church. Prostitutes, strippers, gang members… they’re all judged and looked down upon.

This is a travesty… a pity. These are the very people who need to find the love and forgiving power of Christ, yet the church turns them away because they don’t fit the mold.

It’s time for the body of Christ to get over itself and realize that without God’s grace every single one of us could be in those very same shoes.

(1 Cor 15:10 NKJV)  But by the grace of God I am what I am…

Is the behavior of the sinners pleasing to God? Absolutely not. Sin is sin. But it’s the sinner that needs forgiveness and we are supposed to be the vessels through which God’s love and forgiveness flow!!

Church, we need to get on our knees and beg God to forgive us and then ask Him to give us a new heart… a heart for the lost. It’s time for us all to stop putting on airs and start putting on the righteousness of Christ, not our own righteousness, and start seeing the sinner for who they are… lost souls needing love and forgiveness.

This is what we were put here for.

Bible Verse of The Day – 8-7-12

(2 John 1:6 NKJV)  This is love, that we walk according to His commandments. This is the commandment, that as you have heard from the beginning, you should walk in it.

How do we show God that we really love Him? We can tell Him all day long how much we love Him. But along with telling Him, we must show Him by following His commandments.

Is it going to be easy to follow His commandments? No; some days it is very hard. Some days we try hard and all it takes is a bad driver in front of us on the way to work or getting someone with a bad attitude at the check out register etc. There are all kinds of things that try to creep in to get us to disobey God and break His commandments.

But the good news is that just as there is something bad trying to get us off on the wrong track, there are good things to find too, if we just look and listen.

This morning I was out and about, getting some errands done. It was one of those mornings where I was just focused on what I needed to get done. The lady at the bank drive-through window tells me the total dollar amount on my deposit is way off. In other words, she was telling me I made a math mistake. She wanted to know if I had another check or something in my car that I forgot to put it with the rest I told her “no, you have everything there…maybe I calculated wrong?” A few minutes went by and I added up in my head what I gave her and sure enough I was right. I hit the call button at the window; she didn’t answer. So I hit it again, no answer. Finally she spoke to me and said “you were absolutely right with your adding, but I don’t know why I kept adding up the deposit wrong”.

I realized she was having one of those days and instead of me getting mad and impatient,  I needed to give her some encouragement. She said, have a nice day and I’m sorry for the confusion.  I went out of my way to make sure she knew that it was not a problem and I thanked her for efforts.

I truly believe that at times we are being tested and that we need to pass those tests if we want to build that muscle of love that God is trying to strengthen in us.

God commands us to love. A good way to start loving others is to ask God each day to teach us how to love the way He loves.
