Bible Verse of The Day – 10-6-14

1 Peter 4:8 (NKJV) 8 And above all things have fervent love for one another, for “love will cover a multitude of sins.”

Sometimes people can really irritate us.

You know, they can do things or say things that offend us. They can do things that we know are wrong and then land themselves in trouble because of it. And it’s easy for us to stand at a distance and shake our head and talk about how they need to get their act together.

But what do we do about it? Do we pray for them, or do we criticize them? Do we have compassion for them or do we judge them? Do we offer help or do we laugh each time they stumble and fall?

It’s almost always easier to take the latter of all of these choices. Helping people takes work. And sometimes it takes hard work. Are we willing to work hard to help someone else?

But more importantly, it takes love to help others out of their situations.

We can work all we want to help someone, but if we don’t love them and show them God’s love through our words and our actions, we aren’t helping to change their lives except on the surface and for the moment.

You see, love conquers all.

Offering physical labor is fine. Offering money is fine. Many things like this are fine. But if they are done without love, they are just motions that we are going through. And in the long run, they won’t make a shred of difference in anyone’s life.

So ask God how we can show them love. And if we can’t find it within ourselves to love others then we need to go back to the Father and ask Him to forgive us for our hardened heart. And then we need to ask Him to teach us how to love them.

Regardless of what people may think about this situation or that situation or condition, in the end there is really only one thing that will make a difference in the life of someone else. And that thing is love.

Bible Verse of The Day – 7-5-14

1 Peter 4:8 (NKJV) And above all things have fervent love for one another, for “love will cover a multitude of sins.”

Oh, if only we could get this one right!

Loving each other can seem to be so hard to do at times. We are all so diverse. We have different opinions, different personalities, different cultures, different ways of expressing ourselves. The list of differences can be quite lengthy.

But just because we’re different doesn’t mean that we can’t love each other.

God has commanded us to love each other fervently. That’s a pretty strong word.

To do something fervently means to do it with great intensity. So this means that we shouldn’t love each other halfheartedly!

So in light of our differences, how can we love each other fervently, overlooking those differences and pleasing God?

By letting Him teach us how to love. Only God can show us how to love someone fervently if there are vast differences and even things about a person that we don’t like.

As we let God show us how to love, we will have no problems loving someone we don’t know, don’t agree with or just plain don’t want to be around.

It won’t always be easy, but it can be done if we let God’s Spirit lead us!

Bible Verse of The Day – 2-14-14

John 15:13 (NKJV) Greater love has no one than this, than to lay down one’s life for his friends.

Love is interpreted by many people as many different things.

Some think of love only in a sensual way. Others may think of love simply as an emotion shared between two people in a relationship or between parents and their children.

But God’s love is different. God takes love to a level that the human mind can’t conceive or understand. God loves unconditionally. He doesn’t expect anything in return and doesn’t love us based on what we do or who we are. He loves because He is love.

God has instilled some of that love in us, though. It might be hard to see it most of the time, but it’s there.

That love is evident in acts of sacrifice, such as a parent putting themselves in harm’s way to protect one of their children, or a spouse doing the same for their spouse. It’s a love that can’t really be explained or put satisfactorily into words.

But it’s real, and it comes from God.

It’s this love that caused Jesus, the son of God, Immanuel (God with us), to lay His life down for us. This is the kind of love God wants us to share with one another.

So today, stay focused on the kind of love that Jesus displayed. It’s this kind of love that changes and saves lives, for now and eternity.

Bible Verse of The Day – 12-20-13

Matthew 5:43-45 (NKJV) 43 “You have heard that it was said, ‘You shall love your neighbor and hate your enemy.’ 44 But I say to you, love your enemies, bless those who curse you, do good to those who hate you, and pray for those who spitefully use you and persecute you, 45 that you may be sons of your Father in heaven; for He makes His sun rise on the evil and on the good, and sends rain on the just and on the unjust.

It amazes me how badly the world wants to put God in a box and make Him conform to their wants and desires.

I have to admit that it can make me pretty angry sometimes. Not in a hateful way, but because I love God so much that it hurts me to see and hear anyone insult Him or slander Him in any way at all.

But God is not feeble or weak and He is always in control. He has not fallen off His throne and He is not shocked by anything He hears or sees.

If anything, seeing and hearing what you and I hear on a daily basis should teach us how to love people that much more.

It’s easy to be angry and even to feel negatively toward others, but God has commanded us to do good those who hate us and to pray for those who spitefully use us.

This is a far cry from what our flesh would like to do. But God’s way is always better, so I think it would be best if we do things His way.

Can we get an amen?

Bible Verse of The Day – 6-3-13

(John 13:34 NKJV)  “A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another; as I have loved you, that you also love one another.

This was the very first commandment Jesus gave to the disciples after He sent Judas away, giving Judas permission to go and betray Him.

Jesus knew He would only be around for a little while longer. His time had come.

He spent His entire time here loving all those that were around Him and those that He came in contact with. This commandment can make all the difference in the world as we follow His example.

As we go to work or school, care for our children, etc., wherever we go… take time to really love those around us. No matter how they may treat us, let us love them and do what Jesus commanded.

Have a great week!

Bible Verse of The Day – 3-28-13

(2 Corinthians 5:10 NKJV)  For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ, that each one may receive the things done in the body, according to what he has done, whether good or bad.

In these days of heated political battles and the escalating fight between good and evil, it can be very easy to get caught in the middle of debates regarding moral issues and other hot buttons that abound in the world we live in.

These can be such topics as homosexuality, same-sex marriage, abortion, etc. Everyone seems to have an opinion on these and most people are very passionate about their opinion.

In the end, God is our judge; not the courts, the Supreme Court justices, the politicians, the church leaders or any other outspoken leaders or people who just want to be heard.

If God says something is so, then it is so. It doesn’t matter what anyone’s opinion is. Period.

And in the end, we will all stand before Him and answer for those things that we have said and done. This is what matters.

In the meantime, we need to stand firm in our Biblical convictions but we also need to love those around us while doing so. Constant arguments and heated debates will not show God’s love.

If we find ourselves in situations where things are getting heated, it’s best to speak our piece and walk away. We don’t need to feel like we should always have the last word.

So stand firm for what God has taught you and love those around you, even if you might not necessarily agree with how they live or what they stand for.

Remember… Love Always Wins!!

Bible Verse of The Day – 2-15-13

(1 Peter 4:8 NKJV)  And above all things have fervent love for one another, for “love will cover a multitude of sins.”

Have fervent love for one another. Is this a cheesy Valentine ‘s Day message? Absolutely not.

Valentine’s day is man-made and has nothing to do with the love that God wants us to share with one another. But God tells us to love one another with “fervent love”. Fervent means “having great intensity”.

This isn’t always easy, is it? Oh, we can “like” people, but how do we learn to love them fervently?

There’s only one way; to see them as God sees them and to love them with God’s love, not ours.

This takes a lot of practice and a lifetime to get right. But this doesn’t mean we shouldn’t do it.

God has commanded us in His word. That’s enough reason for me to want to do it. How about you?

Bible Verse of The Day – 2-2-13

(John 13:34-35 NKJV)  “A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another; as I have loved you, that you also love one another. {35} “By this all will know that you are My disciples, if you have love for one another.”

By our love they will know us.

How well do we live this one out? Just reading this verse convicts me. How about you?

Can we honestly say that someone might know that we are a follower of Christ by the love we show to others?

It’s so easy to say that we will love others, but quite a different thing to carry it out. People have a way of getting to us… irritating us and getting under our skin.

Some people just know how to “push our buttons”, so to speak and get us wound up with little effort on their part.

But we are to LOVE them, just as much as we are to love the one who loves us back!

If we are to truly win other to Christ, we need to learn how to love those that God has placed around us, even when it’s not easy!

Bible Verse of The Day – 10-29-12

(Luke 2:10-11 NKJV)  Then the angel said to them, “Do not be afraid, for behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy which will be to all people. {11} “For there is born to you this day in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord.

I sometimes wonder what it must have been like to have lived in this era, when the angels came to announce the birth of Jesus, the savior of the world. My mind can’t comprehend what this must have been like.

But it happened. God sent His son in the form of a baby, born in the lowliest of places. Jesus lived his life with a purpose and fulfilled that purpose, dying the cruelest death on the cross.

This happened over 2000 years ago. Not a generation has gone by since then that hasn’t known about this incredible event. Some chose to believe it, while others have chosen to claim that they don’t believe it at all. Others claim not to have any opinion at all.

But we, the followers of Christ, have a mission of our own. Our mission is to take the love, grace and mercy that we found in Christ and pass it on to others.

We are to love people, even when they are unlovable. We are to accept them as they are, not do everything in our power to change them so we can bring them to God. We are not to judge people… not for how they look, where they come from or any reason that we can think of.

WE are to love them!!

It’s the love of God that draws people, not our criticism, our judgments or our opinions. Jesus came to die for us, and do you know what? He died for them too! And before we were children of God, we were one of them!

Love them all, even when they are unlovable.

Bible Verse of The Day – 10-23-12

(1 John 3:17-18 NKJV)  But whoever has this world’s goods, and sees his brother in need, and shuts up his heart from him, how does the love of God abide in him? {18} My little children, let us not love in word or in tongue, but in deed and in truth.

We, as the body of Christ, His bride, need to come together in One love, for such a time as this. We must pull together and love like Christ loves!

That does not mean that I love you because you are of the same denomination as me, or I love you because you are the same skin color as me. It doesn’t mean I love you because we agree on the same things and have the same opinion. We are not to pick and choose who we love.

No! This love is bigger then all of that. This kind of LOVE loves unconditionally, no matter what the situation, no matter where you’ve been or where you come from, and no matter who you are or what you think.

It’s the kind of love that says “I love you for one reason… because Christ’s love lives in me”.

Step out today. Ask God to show you who He wants you to do something nice for. And then simply do as He has shown you.

Action speaks volumes.

Bible Verse of The Day – 9-25-12

(1 Cor 13:1-3 NKJV)  Though I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, but have not love, I have become sounding brass or a clanging cymbal. {2} And though I have the gift of prophecy, and understand all mysteries and all knowledge, and though I have all faith, so that I could remove mountains, but have not love, I am nothing. {3} And though I bestow all my goods to feed the poor, and though I give my body to be burned, but have not love, it profits me nothing.

There are so many things we should do as believers and followers of Christ. We should give, we should help others, we should be kind, we should encourage.

We can possess many spiritual gifts and use them all for the sake of the kingdom of God.

We can reach out to people on a daily basis and do mighty works with our hands, our feet and our resources.

But if we do any or all of these without love, they are meaningless in the eyes of God.

Love can be a hard concept when we start to understand that we need to love without boundaries, without conditions and without any kind of prejudice or judgment whatsoever.

But we are commanded to love! It is not optional.

Once we get this and let God pour this into us, we will have a different outlook on everything around us.

Let God show you how to love with HIS love.
