Tag: What the Bible says about being content

Bible Verse of The Day – 10-24-15

Psalm 23:1 (NKJV) 23 The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want.

We spend so much time focused on the mountains and the valleys in our lives.

We covet the mountaintop experiences and loathe the valleys. And in the process, we miss out on everything in between.

Our lives consist of so much more than highs and lows. In fact, the highs and lows happen infrequently, which is why they stand out so much in our minds.

But God is faithful in every aspect of our lives, through everything that we walk through. So it’s important that we learn to be thankful for each and every day we have, not just for those days that we see as highlights!

Philippians 4:11 (NKJV) 11 Not that I speak in regard to need, for I have learned in whatever state I am, to be content…

Learning to be content helps bring stability into our lives, because when we’re content, we won’t be constantly looking for the next big high or mountaintop.

Being content also helps us to be thankful for what we have and where we’re at. When we learn to be content, we also learn to be grateful for what we have, regardless of how plentiful or how lean it might be.

And all of this comes with growing as a believer, spending time in God’s word and learning who He wants us to be.

So whether we’re on the mountaintop, in the valley, or somewhere in between, let’s be content and thankful.

Bible Verse of The Day – 7-3-15

Philippians 4:11-12 (NKJV) 11 Not that I speak in regard to need, for I have learned in whatever state I am, to be content: 12 I know how to be abased, and I know how to abound. Everywhere and in all things I have learned both to be full and to be hungry, both to abound and to suffer need.

I learned a valuable lesson today.

We’ve taught on these verses several times in the past, but today I learned even more from them, so I wanted to pass it along to all of you 🙂

I learned even more today about what it means to be content. And I learned that sometimes we need to adjust our thinking in order to be content.

Sometimes we tend to look at what we don’t have, or maybe even what we used to have. Looking at what we used to have might happen if we have gone through a season of famine or loss.

As we recover from that season of loss, we need to realize that it takes time to get back on our feet and to a point where no longer feel defeated or inadequate.

So instead of looking back at where we were or what we had, we need to look at how far we have come and what we have been able to accomplish since that time of famine or loss.

Once we get this into our heads, then we can begin to look forward, look ahead, to that next step on our way to recovery.

And during this entire process, we need to continually be thanking God for His provision and for bringing us through the storm, even if we may have some battle scars from it.

As we learn to be content and thankful, then we will be prepared for whatever God has for us next.

This doesn’t usually come easy and it definitely doesn’t happen overnight. But if we don’t give up and we don’t grow weary we will be blessed and reap a harvest.

Galatians 6:9 (NKJV) 9 And let us not grow weary while doing good, for in due season we shall reap if we do not lose heart.

Bible Verse of The Day – 1-12-15

Philippians 4:11-12 (NKJV) 11 Not that I speak in regard to need, for I have learned in whatever state I am, to be content: 12 I know how to be abased, and I know how to abound. Everywhere and in all things I have learned both to be full and to be hungry, both to abound and to suffer need.

Human nature (the natural man) seems to cause us to always be looking forward, searching for “the next big thing” in our lives.

We are always working toward that new job, bigger home or nicer car. There are lots of things that we chase after in the natural realm.

So many times, though, we are so busy looking forward, that we forget to recognize, and be thankful for, what we have right now, at this moment.

We all have much to be thankful for, regardless of what kind of situation we might currently be in.

Sometimes we have plenty, and I believe we can all agree that times of abundance can be pretty enjoyable.

But then we may go through a time of lack, a drought, so to speak, and the natural man tends to be frustrated and angry when this happens. But as we draw close to God, we learn to be thankful no matter what things look like at the moment. And we stop always looking forward, searching for that next big thing, and being content with what we’re blessed with.

This doesn’t mean that we shouldn’t work to improve our circumstances, but as we do so, let’s be careful not to be ungrateful for what we already have and letting the time slip by us without stopping to sit at God’s feet and honor Him.
