Tag: What the Bible says about trusting God

Bible Verse of The Day – 11-2-20

2 Samuel 22:31 (NKJV) 31 As for God, His way is perfect; The word of the Lord is proven; He is a shield to all who trust in Him.

We live in crazy times. “Normal” life seems to be a distant memory for most, if not all of us.

Every day seems to bring new challenges, navigating uncharted territory.

And there is an unending onslaught of events almost every day that makes me shake my head, as I observe so many depraved people around the globe who want to control how we all live as though they are God Himself, while they live their Godless lives.

There’s no doubt that we are moving quickly into end times. There are signs of the times all around us.

And if we’re not careful, we can quickly fall into panic mode, letting everything that we’re seeing happen tear our faith and trust in God to shreds.

It’s times like these that require us to trust God more than ever, letting Him shield us from the chaos that we see all around us, and not depend on our own understanding to pull us through it. Because we all know how that works out.

So, trust Him. Let Him lead. And whatever you do, don’t lean on your emotions or your own understanding.

Bible Verse of The Day – 10-17-20

Proverbs 27:1 (NKJV) 1 Do not boast about tomorrow, For you do not know what a day may bring forth.

Planning, scheduling and setting goals throughout our day is good. It helps us work more efficiently and makes sure we’re doing what needs to be done.

It’s only right that we do this if we want to be diligent with our time.

But, to go on and on about what we know and don’t know about tomorrow, a month from now or even a year from now is just a bunch of hot air.

We don’t know, and we should not boast or brag about it.

Some people can tell us stories about things they are facing, or maybe what they have walked through, that they never knew was going to happen. That’s what we are talking about.

Unexpected things happen.

People who live confidently, thinking they’ve got everything figured out, can be in for a rude awakening when things don’t go as planned.

We want to prepare you beforehand so that you don’t fall into despair or go off the deep end when the unexpected comes along.

None of us are promised a tomorrow. If we get a tomorrow, we need to be thankful and live it out as if it was our last day.

God did not make us to have everything planned out on our own. He made us to appreciate one day at a time. He made us a people that would walk with Him, lean and trust Him every day that we live and breathe.

But we think we have to try and fix things ourselves. We have to make things work the way we want them to and get it done in our time, not wanting to wait on Someone else.

Let’s face it, children of God. When Covid-19 came rolling in and changed everything, were we prepared for that?

No. We had no clue it was coming. And it changed how we did things with the snap of a finger.

So, we need to be sure that we don’t boast or brag about tomorrow, because only God knows what’s to come tomorrow. It’s safe to say we all can boast in Someone and that Someone is Him!!

1 Corinthians 1:31 (NIV) 31 Therefore, as it is written: “Let the one who boasts boast in the Lord.”

Bible Verse of The Day – 9-5-20

Nahum 1:7 (NKJV) 7 The Lord is good, A stronghold in the day of trouble; And He knows those who trust in Him.

I love this reminder today.

He, the Lord, is good! Amen.

When we are in trouble, He is good. But I like what it says after that. I find it very important.

“He knows those who trust in Him.”

In other words, we cannot fake it. We either trust Him or we don’t. We can not one day say, “Oh, Lord I trust you with everything”, and then the next day say, “things are getting shaky Lord, I’m skipping the trusting part for a while.”

No. We either do or we don’t.

What does His word promise us if we do trust Him?

He, the Lord, is our STRONGHOLD! Amen.

The definition of stronghold is: a place that has been fortified so as to protect it against attack.

Our protection is in trusting Him.

How many need this today?

Things have been very difficult. Attacks are wearing us out. They are right here in our midst.

Sometimes we can hardly breathe we are so troubled. We don’t need to run or even hide. God’s got this.

Two words for you to hold onto today; TRUST HIM!

Bible Verse of The Day – 8-12-20

Numbers 33:52-53 (NKJV) 52 then you shall drive out all the inhabitants of the land from before you, destroy all their engraved stones, destroy all their molded images, and demolish all their high places; 53 you shall dispossess the inhabitants of the land and dwell in it, for I have given you the land to possess.

God is a God of promises. He promises His people that they will possess certain things. And He is very specific with naming those things.

And His people love this.

But there is a part of this that we often overlook. When God tells us to possess something that He has promised us, there is very often a battle on our part in order to actually take possession of whatever it is that God promised us.

That’s right. We have to fight for it.

And that part can be a bit daunting for us.

This is the very part that got the Israelites into a heap of trouble, because they began to doubt God when they learned that they would have to fight to inhabit the land that God had promised them.

What we need to remember, though, is that God doesn’t just toss us into the ring and say “fight your own battles”.

On the contrary, He fights with us. And as He leads us in our fight, He gives us very specific instructions to follow that will assure us of our victory. We just have to be sure to follow His leading.

We may still incur bumps and bruises. We may get injured in the process. And we may come out of it with scars. Victory frequently comes at a price. But it is always worth it.

And when God is our Commander in Chief, He will always lead us the way we should go.

Bible Verse of The Day – 8-11-20

Numbers 13:30 (NKJV) 30 Then Caleb quieted the people before Moses, and said, “Let us go up at once and take possession, for we are well able to overcome it.”

Caleb saw things through his faith in God. The others were looking at it through their own eyes; their own abilities.

We get into trouble when we try to do things on our own.

We need to make sure that when we attempt to do the things that God brings before us, we do them in His wisdom, strength, and timing.

He will not leave us to do things on our own. He will make sure He is right there with us.

Will we see it only being done through our own strength? Or will we let Almighty God help deliver to us that which He has promised?

Numbers 13:33 (NKJV) 33 There we saw the giants (the descendants of Anak came from the giants); and we were like grasshoppers in our own sight, and so we were in their sight.”

As soon as they saw themselves as grasshoppers and the inhabitants of the land as giants, their faith went out the window and they let what they saw override what God had told them.

In other words, it got into their heads. And at that very moment, they lost the battle.

Caleb saw it.

It wasn’t like he hadn’t seen what they all saw. He did see it. But he knew in His faith that God was bigger, and he knew that’s how they would win the battle.

We can’t look at things through our own sight. If we are facing giants today, maybe at work, maybe in our health, maybe in school, maybe in our finances, or maybe in our home, we can’t let it stick.

Know that God is greater, and it’s on His Word that we stand.

He is our shield, our hiding place, when fear tries to overwhelm us.

Psalm 119:114 (NKJV) 114 You are my hiding place and my shield; I hope in Your word.

We can take the giants out if we stand firm in our faith, allowing Him to be bigger in our sight than the obstacle we may be facing!!

Bible Verse of The Day – 8-10-20

Numbers 14:4 (NKJV) 4 So they said to one another, “Let us select a leader and return to Egypt.”

Picture with me, if you will, a very large group of people who had been slaves all their lives, subject to the whims of their masters, not able to do anything of their own accord.

They worked endlessly from dawn until dark, doing nothing unless they were told to do so. They had no freedom whatsoever.

Now, picture them being set free, no longer having to endure beatings, endless hours of back-breaking labor, and now being led, protected by and provided for by God Himself.

Sounds like a really good deal, right?

Arguably, anyone in their right mind wouldn’t want to trade this scenario for anything in the world.

But the Israelites did!

When they reached a place of being unsure of their destiny, they wanted to go back to slavery. Seriously! They wanted to trade their freedom for familiarity, even though it would mean giving up everything they had gained.

Why? Because their current situation was uncomfortable. It was uncomfortable because it was new to them.

They didn’t know what to expect each day. They had no routine, no schedule. And this scared them.

It scared them so much, in fact, that they would have willingly returned to Egypt and subjected themselves to slave labor just to have a little security.

Do we ever do this? Do we ever long to go back to an earlier time just for the sake of being in a situation or in surroundings that are familiar and a bit more comfortable for our minds, even though it usually means being far worse off overall?

It’s safe to say that we have probably all done this, or at least thought about doing it, more than once in our lifetimes. And many of us do it frequently.

The good news, though, is that there is a fix for this. It’s all about learning to trust God with our lives, letting Him lead us and guide us, without constantly questioning Him and asking Him why He’s doing what He’s doing.

This takes time to mature and develop in our lives. It doesn’t happen overnight. It also doesn’t happen if we don’t make the effort to grow our relationship with Him.

But when we do put forth the effort, we are rewarded with a flourishing walk with God and a faith in Him that stands strong even in the face of the most adverse situations, and a trust that can’t be broken no matter what we face.

Proverbs 3:5-6 (NKJV) 5 Trust in the Lord with all your heart, And lean not on your own understanding; 6 In all your ways acknowledge Him, And He shall direct your paths.

Bible Verse of The Day – 5-26-20

Hebrews 11:11 (NKJV) 11 By faith Sarah herself also received strength to conceive seed, and she bore a child when she was past the age, because she judged Him faithful who had promised.

Sarah believed what God told her about having a son, even after she was past child-bearing age. She judged Him faithful of His promise to her and Sarah received her promised child.

Genesis 21:3 (NKJV) 3 And Abraham called the name of his son who was born to him—whom Sarah bore to him—Isaac.

What is God promising us today?

Did He tell us or give us vision for something that is way beyond what we can do, or can even imagine to be done with our limited resources or our situation?

What is His promise to us? Do we judge Him faithful? Do we trust that He can and He will do it?

Some say, “well maybe. But I’m not quite sure yet if He will do that for me. I just need a little glimpse of something to reassure me.”

No. That’s not trust. Where there is doubt, we are without. That’s just my own phrase.

I have seen God show up too many times in my life to doubt Him. He has changed the way I think and look at things. I don’t let my eyes, and what I see in the natural, be the final word in what will happen. No.

2 Corinthians 5:7 (NKJV) 7 For we walk by faith, not by sight.

God has a way of turning things around at any moment. He is amazing!

If we walk by sight, that is all we will see, exactly what is in front of us. That’s fine if that’s what we want.

But for me, I have always wanted to see what God will do in the moments that life says, “this is it for you, the end of the road.”

If we walk by faith, those little statements only cause us to rise up and get God’s word on the matter. We go after Him, seeking what it is that He has to say. If He says otherwise, we trust His word over anyone or anything else.

We judge Him faithful to keep and fulfill His promise, and we see the impossible happen right before our eyes.

Amen!

Bible Verse of The Day – 5-18-20

2 Corinthians 5:7 (NKJV) 7 For we walk by faith, not by sight.

Our sight is important to us. It allows us to see what’s around us; what’s happening, what’s ahead of us, and what stands in our way.

Our sight, though, is limited. Our eyes work only on natural principles. They see what is tangible. They cannot see what is spiritual.

There can be seasons in our lives when we struggle to see beyond the darkness that surrounds us. Certain situations and events can make us feel lost, hopeless and like we are wandering without vision. It can happen to all of us.

This is when we have to reach out and walk by faith, not by what we see in the natural.

This requires that we push back the emotions that cause us to become fearful, and teach ourselves to trust in God, even when we feel like we are blind and don’t even know where to put our feet, as we struggle to walk forward.

Our spirit needs to be able to take charge, overriding our tendency to rely on common sense and logic and, instead, lean in and listen for what His spirit is telling our spirit to do.

Maybe we find that difficult. Maybe at this point in our lives we are struggling just to push back unbelief. Or maybe we just need something we can cling to, to get us to take our next step.

This is when we need to look around us. We might not see the immediate answer to our problems, but we can see the sun, stars and the beauty of creation, to remind us of Who it is that our faith and trust is in.

And when we do this, and we get that glimpse of God’s incredible power and might, it helps us to shake off the doubt and unbelief and move forward, even if it might only be one inch at a time.

Forward motion is forward motion, regardless of the speed or the increments by which we move.

Don’t look back. Look ahead. And look up to the One who has the power to pick us up even when we are at our weakest, and get us moving again.

He is faithful.

Bible Verse of The Day – 3-20-20

Isaiah 9:6 (NKJV) 6 For unto us a Child is born, Unto us a Son is given; And the government will be upon His shoulder. And His name will be called Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.

This is a well-known verse that we often see and hear quoted around Christmas time. And while it’s understandable that it would be used as such, there is much more going on here!

As of the day and moment that this is being written, much of the world is in a state of panic. Coronavirus is making its way around the globe. The media is causing fear and trepidation in the hearts of millions as they focus on this sickness and put fear into the hearts of men and women.

And while there is cause for concern, it’s important that we not let the hype and the fear take hold of our hearts.

Why?

Because we live under the hand of the Prince of Peace, the Everlasting Father, Mighty God.

You see, a Godless society has nowhere to run. They have no one to go to for peace, solace or answers to their questions and fears. It is for this reason that we see the panic on an increasing frequency and level over the last decade, as God has been pushed aside and largely eliminated from so many societies.

As followers of Christ, children of the Most High God, we don’t have to fall into the hysteria or panic. On the contrary, we should be peaceful and of sound mind during these times.

It doesn’t mean that we don’t see the seriousness of a situation. It simply means that we know the One who gives a peace that surpasses all understanding, even when the world looks like it’s falling apart.

Philippians 4:6-7 (NKJV) 6 Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; 7 and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.

Trust Him. Cling to Him. Press in to Him. Draw near to Him.

And while the world around us gets whipped into a frenzy by Godless people who have no spiritual understanding, and no sense of who He is, we look to Him for everything that we need, trusting that He will guide our each and every step.

Bible Verse of The Day – 3-17-20

Exodus 23:25 (NKJV) 25 “So you shall serve the Lord your God, and He will bless your bread and your water. And I will take sickness away from the midst of you.

I think sometimes we underestimate our God. That’s why we wait at times until things get really bad before we ask for help. That’s why we wait until we are backed up against a wall and have no other answers or way out.

We wait until we finally realize we can’t figure it out ourselves. We give up on trying to do it our way.

This shows God what we think about it, how we see Him. And honestly, it’s hurtful.

I have learned over the years that my stupidity and ignorance has been painful for my Father to watch. God has feelings. That is why He came in the flesh. He felt for us and had compassion for us!

Will we look to Him for who He is? Will we let Him be God in our lives and save us from the awful tragedies that sometimes hit us? Or will we keep trying to do it on our own as long as we have breath in us.

Don’t forget where that breath came from.

Genesis 2:7 (NKJV) 7 And the Lord God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living being.

Someone is hurting today, struggling with letting it all go. Someone is struggling with letting Him bring healing, strength, and resting in His righteous hand.

It’s your call. Won’t you let Him help you with your trial today?

Isaiah 41:10 (NKJV) 10 Fear not, for I am with you; Be not dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you, Yes, I will help you, I will uphold you with My righteous right hand.’

Our prayers are with you. Amen.
