Bible Verse of The Day – 11-15-17

Proverbs 15:1 (NKJV) 1 A soft answer turns away wrath, But a harsh word stirs up anger.

Has anyone ever said or done something to you that just sets you off, and makes you want to lash out at them, tell them what you think and put them in their place?

It’s safe to say that every one of us has been in this kind of situation. And sometimes it makes us feel like blurting out whatever pops into our minds.

Unfortunately, many of us do just that. We lash out with a stinging blast of fiery words. We give it to them good. And then we feel better, right?

Not so much, no. Most times, these verbal lashings will only result in more backlash from the other person. And, in the long run, they usually do more harm than good. And, even worse, we usually feel terrible after doing this.

So, what do we do? How do we handle situations like these?

Believe it or not, soft words, spoken with God’s grace and compassion will almost always be the better option. Soft words are far less apt to stir the pot more. Even better, soft words are more likely to help put out the fire and bring calm to a situation that had become volatile.

Many times, the things that we want to say may have some truth in them. We may see a situation and understand exactly what’s happening. But speaking it bluntly and addressing it head on might not be the way God would want us to handle it at that particular moment in time.

Whereas, speaking words of truth, tempered by the Holy Spirit, can bring a whole new dimension to the situation. Doing this can bring peace in the midst of a storm, so to speak.

This isn’t the case 100% of the time. But, more often than not, speaking with a firm but loving voice will disarm a person who is wound up tight and ready to lash out verbally, or possibly even physically.

Listen for God’s discernment and His leading before speaking our words. Let Him teach us to think before we speak, and to speak with love, even when we’d like to do otherwise.

And watch how God takes tense situations and makes something good out of them.

Bible Verse of The Day – 11-14-17

1 Samuel 15:24 (NKJV) 24 Then Saul said to Samuel, “I have sinned, for I have transgressed the commandment of the Lord and your words, because I feared the people and obeyed their voice.

God had given Saul very specific instructions. But Saul didn’t listen. And he paid a price for his disobedience.

Sometimes we let people speak louder than God. We let fear of what the people may think of us, if we don’t do it their way, be louder than what God may think of us.

When we obey people more than we obey the voice of God, we lose what God has put us in charge of. It goes away.

1 Samuel 15:23 (NKJV) 23 For rebellion is as the sin of witchcraft, And stubbornness is as iniquity and idolatry. Because you have rejected the word of the Lord, He also has rejected you from being king.”

In Saul’s case, he lost his place as king. Saul did not listen to the word of the Lord. God looks at this as rebellion and stubbornness, which are both as bad as witchcraft.

Many times we think we can just do what we want, and it will all just be fine. We think we will get away with it because God is forgiving. Yes, God does forgive us if we ask Him to. But there are always consequences for our actions.

God stopped Saul in his tracks and He had already prepared someone else to take his position; Someone with a heart after Him. David would take King Saul’s place.

It’s important that we listen to what God is saying to us. Follow His instructions. Don’t try adding to it or taking from it. Don’t let the fear of what people may say be louder than what God is saying.

God has the final say and He is watching, listening and alert. Nothing is hidden from Him.

Psalm 69:5 (NKJV) 5 O God, You know my foolishness; And my sins are not hidden from You.

Bible Verse of The Day – 11-13-17

Psalm 107:29 (NKJV) 29 He calms the storm, So that its waves are still.

Today we were at a place called the overlook. It’s a local spot where we like to sit and enjoy the ocean view.

As we sat there, we watched the raging sea, with large waves crashing, and listened to the wind howling. And the sky was dark with stormy clouds.

Many of the wind gusts were strong enough to cause our vehicle to rock back and forth!

But how peaceful we were, knowing that our God has control over all of this.

When storms come, whether it’s a natural storm or storm in our life, we don’t need to fret and worry.

God is amazing! His might, power and awesomeness are seen all around us. We just have to sit still long enough to notice it and take it in.

We may be struggling. And everything around us might seem to be falling apart. There’s no doubt that this is a storm. And this is a good time to stop, sit down and start to praise Him.

The enemy doesn’t think we will do this. He likes to throw things at us here and there, because he wants us to be scared. He wants us to take our eyes off of God and put them on the storm around us, or anything else but Him. Don’t let the enemy win.

Look to the One who calms the storm.

Bible Verse of The Day – 11-11-17

1 Corinthians 15:57 (NKJV) 57 But thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ. 

Victory. It’s something we hear a lot about, but many of us never really fully grasp what it means. 

Most times, this is because we fail to recognize or remember that Jesus has already bought the victory for us. His work was a work that finished everything. In fact, Jesus himself spoke the words “it is finished” right before taking His last breath. 

John 19:30 (NKJV) 30 So when Jesus had received the sour wine, He said, “It is finished!” And bowing His head, He gave up His spirit. 

Those are significant words for you and I. They mean that the battle for our soul has already been won, and victory is being offered to each and every one of us. We just need to claim that victory. 

Think of it as someone offering us a gift. They’re holding it out to us. We just need to reach out and take it. 

This also means that we have an advantage over our enemy, the devil. Oh, he will try to come and rattle our cage at times. He may even be successful at it, by getting us to doubt God or doubt our position in Christ. He might even get us to give in to temptation at times. 

But, we just need to remind him and remind ourselves that He who is in us is greater than he who is in the world. 

1 John 4:4 (NKJV) 4 You are of God, little children, and have overcome them, because He who is in you is greater than he who is in the world. 

In other words, because we have Christ living in us, we shouldn’t live defeated lives, constantly falling prey to the wiles of the enemy. 

And when we do fall down, we should never stay there. We need to get back up, let God point us in the right direction, and then get back on track. And our focus should never be on the things we’ve done wrong. But on the things ahead of us. 

Because God placed our eyes in the front of our head, and not in the back, we need to continue to look forward and upward. And give Him thanks daily, knowing that He has given us the victory in Jesus.

Bible Verse of The Day – 11-10-17

Malachi 3:10 (NKJV) 10 Bring all the tithes into the storehouse, That there may be food in My house, And try Me now in this,” Says the Lord of hosts, “If I will not open for you the windows of heaven And pour out for you such blessing That there will not be room enough to receive it.

God is telling us to bring ALL the tithes. Bring them where? Into the storehouse.

What is a storehouse? A place for storing goods (such as provisions), a warehouse, etc. A place where we get the food that nourishes us.

In this modern day, the storehouse is the place that feeds us spiritually; Where we are being nurtured, growing and learning. The place that is helping us to move forward in our walk with God.

We see a difference in our attitude and things are changing in our lives for the better, because of the “food” we’re receiving from this particular place. This would be our storehouse.

Putting our tithes in the right storehouse is important. If we are sowing our money into a place that is not feeding us properly, then we are wasting our money, our time and our labor.

This may be hard for us to digest because some of us may find ourselves having to make a change and switch things up.

The way to determine our storehouse is to see and know where we are getting our help from. What is making a difference in our life? Where are we being taught the things of God in a way that works for us?

These are questions to ask ourselves in finding the right storehouse.

God is faithful to show us, guide us and lead us to that place. He knows that many are struggling, because they are sincere in their hearts and want to do what is right. But they have not found the right storehouse. And, if they have found it, they have not taken the steps to give their tithes to it.

God wants to bless us. But it’s up to us to obey Him first.

Bible Verse of The Day – 11-9-17

Proverbs 16:18 (NKJV) 18 Pride goes before destruction, And a haughty spirit before a fall. 

Pride is destructive, no matter how we look at it. 

Some people are just prideful. They know it and it doesn’t bother them. They parade it and wear it like a badge of honor. 

Sometimes, though, we can be prideful and not even realize it. We can move and do things in proud ways and never even give it a thought. It might have crept in slowly and quietly. Many times, this can be related to something we do that we have become very good at. 

Sports, studies, a trade, a hobby, our career, or even our ministry. These are all areas where pride will sneak in and live undetected for years and years. 

Many times, this pride will show up in ways that will give it away, like maybe in fancy titles. Many of these titles take time and effort to acquire, so the people who attain these levels of education or achievement display those titles as a way of showing people their accomplishments. 

But even if we have worked hard to accomplish certain things, pride is still pride, no matter how we try to dress it up. 

This isn’t to say that all titles are wrong. Not at all. But when titles become so important to us that we have trouble writing our name without the title attached, or when we feel like people owe it to us to address us using our title, we probably have a little problem brewing. 

Just as in the world, the body of Christ is also wrestling with this. Titles have taken on new importance during the last few decades. People have taken to adding titles before or after their names to deem themselves more important or distinguished, or with the hopes it will garner them some attention and help propel them to higher levels of notoriety. 

But with God, titles carry no weight. He looks at the heart of man, not at the title or the stature of the person. 

1 Samuel 16:7 (NKJV) 7 But the Lord said to Samuel, “Do not look at his appearance or at his physical stature, because I have refused him. For the Lord does not see as man sees; for man looks at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart.” 

So, let’s check ourselves and ask God to show us where pride may have crept in and taken hold of us, even in some small way. 

And then let’s ask Him to root it out of us and give us a clean heart. 

Psalm 51:10 (NKJV) 10 Create in me a clean heart, O God, And renew a steadfast spirit within me.

Bible Verse of The Day – 11-8-17

Matthew 19:13-15 (NKJV) 13 Then little children were brought to Him that He might put His hands on them and pray, but the disciples rebuked them. 14 But Jesus said, “Let the little children come to Me, and do not forbid them; for of such is the kingdom of heaven.” 15 And He laid His hands on them and departed from there.

Jesus showed the disciples His heart for the children.

The disciples had been rebuking them, trying to keep them away from Him. But Jesus told them not to forbid the children. And He put His hand on them and prayed. What a precious example this is.

We may sometimes look at children as being little and insignificant. We may think that when they get older they will be of some importance. For now they are just children and don’t need much of anything.

But they are so much more than that. Each one of them is unique in their own way. They have a lot to offer and need certain things to help them. They are our blessings; our little miracles to nurture and protect.

It’s important that we take the time we need to train them up and be an example to them. It’s important that we teach them right from wrong, love them, help them, listen to them and pray for them.

Every little life that enters into this world, no matter how they get here, is important to Him and He loves each one of them.

Do we have children today? Maybe we think after hearing this that we blew it. We haven’t been spending time as we should with our children. We haven’t been teaching them properly. We have left them in the hands of others to train and teach them.

Maybe our children are grown up and we missed out on much of their lives because of work, responsibilities, etc.

It’s never too late. Take the time that’s needed. Get some things off of our plate and add these precious little pearls to it.

If they are older and moved out, meet up with them for lunch, or a hot drink. If they are far away, send them a card or a gift, etc. Show them how much we love them. Love is powerful.

And, just as importantly, continue to pray for them. No matter how little or how much time has gone by, it’s still important to pray for them.

Prayer crosses many rivers, tall mountains and through the valleys.  It’s never too late to pray and show our love for our children.

Bible Verse of The Day – 11-7-17

Psalm 139:14 (NKJV) 14 I will praise You, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made; Marvelous are Your works, And that my soul knows very well. 

There are so many things around each of us that can try to influence us in many different ways. 

Some will try to make us think that we are bigger than life… invincible. 

Others will try to make us feel like we are less than who God created us to be… worthless. 

Still others will make us feel that we can only have worth if we do certain things, follow current trends, buy a specific brand of product, look a certain way, etc. 

These can be found everywhere we look; on TV, in movies, in songs, in advertisements and in so much marketing material that we are barraged with every day. 

You see, God has made us each unique. He has created us fearfully and wonderfully. But what does that mean? 

It means that we were created in a way that words can’t even fully express. Our body and everything about it is incredibly intricate and awesome to behold. Nobody can truly explain how we were put together so incredibly. It’s more than the human mind can conceive or comprehend. 

Think about the different parts of our bodies. Our eyes, our ears, muscles, our brain, and all of those internal organs that we never see. 

They all function together in harmony, keeping us going every day. It is truly miraculous! 

And He has done this so we can be His. He wants us to follow Him, worship Him and exalt Him in our everyday lives. He wants us to love Him with everything in us. Whether we do that or not is up to us. 

So, the next time you see yourself in a mirror, stop and consider for a few seconds how God made you. And marvel at this wonderful creation called the human body. And thank Him for His incredible works. 

He has made us fearfully and wonderfully. What will we do with who He has made us?

Bible Verse of The Day – 11-6-17

2 Timothy 3:16-17 (NKJV) 16 All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, 17 that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work.

Being equipped in the word of God will help us to discern the teachings, movements and errors that pop up now and then.

His word helps us in every area of our life. It helps us to know whether or not we are being fooled. It equips us to know how to handle certain situations that we may face. It keeps us balanced in our hearts and prevents us from taking things to extremes, etc.

It’s sad to think that good, innocent people get off track because they don’t know what the word says at times.

They love God and want to do what is right. But sometimes they get caught up in the wrong thing because they don’t know what the scripture says regarding it.

There are Christians right now, as we speak, who are walking a path that’s far from the truth, because of things they heard or saw, and they unwittingly accepted them as truth.

It’s important that, as believers, we know the scriptures. And it is equally as important that we understand them in their proper context.

Why? Because if we don’t know what God’s word says, we will listen to whatever may sound good, or whatever may feel good at the time. And we may mistake it as God’s truth.

We need to remember that not everything God says or does feels good. He brings perfect balance through His word, even when it might not feel pleasant.

God’s word helps us and protects us from being misled by those things that might sound like truth, but can actually lead us into error and away from God’s truth.

Psalm 33:4 (NKJV) 4 For the word of the Lord is right, And all His work is done in truth.
