Bible Verse of The Day – 4-11-24

1 Corinthians 15:57 (NKJV) 57 But thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.

Someone today is wondering how they will live and keep going. If you know someone like this, tell them that if they have Jesus, they have the victory!

Someone today is suffering from addiction and has no idea if they will be able to beat it. You tell them, if they have Jesus they have the victory!

Someone today may have lost their job, and they are falling into depression. You tell them that if they have Jesus, they have the victory!

Someone today is having marital problems and things are not getting any better. You tell them that if they have Jesus they have the victory!

What is victory?

Jesus died for our sins on that cross and He was rose again. The resurrection of Christ brings victory over sin, the law and death!

Let the Holy Spirit’s power guide us today in praying and making the right choices in our situations. Things will get better as we trust, obey, and follow Him.

We’ve got the victory in Jesus Christ our Lord! Amen.

Bible Verse of The Day – 4-10-24

Colossians 2:6-7 (NKJV) 6 As you therefore have received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk in Him, 7 rooted and built up in Him and established in the faith, as you have been taught, abounding in it with thanksgiving.

These two verses are the “formula” for building a strong walk with God!

In reality, there is no secret formula. But what is stated in the verses above gives us a strong base to work with. But let’s look at a breakdown of these verses.

Walk in Him; learn of Him, put into practice what He taught, and follow the example He set while He was here on earth.

Rooted and built up in Him; taking what we learn in His word and walking it out in practical ways each day.

Established in the faith; maturing as we gain understanding and knowledge, not wavering in our faith.

As you have been taught; showing our faith by example, making it alive in our lives so others can see Jesus in us. By this we glorify God with our lives.

Abounding in it with thanksgiving; the truth of the gospel, and the love of God, flows out of us as people see God transforming us, and we express our gratitude toward Him in all that we do.

Growing as a believer isn’t as difficult as we often make it.

The biggest factor or requirement in all of this is a willing, obedient heart.

We just need to let God touch our heart and make it pliable. Once that happens, so many other things will begin to fall into place in our walk with God.

Bible Verse of The Day – 4-9-24

1 Corinthians 6:9-11 (NKJV) 9 Do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived. Neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor homosexuals, nor sodomites, 10 nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners will inherit the kingdom of God. 11 And such were some of you. But you were washed, but you were sanctified, but you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus and by the Spirit of our God.

One common denominator with the things listed above is that they are all sinful behaviors.

Thankfully, God gave us a conscience, and it tells us not to participate in these things.

We don’t necessarily have to be taught. We inherently know right from wrong.

Because of this, we will know when something we are about to do is wrong even if we are not a child of God because of the conscience He placed within us.

You may say there is a part of us that desires doing such things, even as a believer. This makes it hard to say no.

That can be true.

But this is usually due to the fact that this is a part of us that we have not completely surrendered to God. We have failed to allow Him to deliver us from it because that part of us does desire it.

None of us are perfect. And God does forgive us when we sincerely, remorsefully repent from our sin.

But what is important to know is that in the scripture above there is a list of “will not inherit the kingdom of God” unless we allow ourselves to be washed, sanctified, and justified.

We can not willfully continue in and repeating the same sinful behaviors over and over again and think it’s OK!

God so loves us all, but even in this deep love He can not “accept” us if we are  willfully, continually participating in this sinful behavior.

John 3:16 (NKJV) 16 For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.

His Son made the way for God to accept us as His child and give us everlasting life. He can help us, like a Father helps his child, to be set free from such things.

If you struggle with participating in sinful behaviors and you feel like you can not beat it, and even as a believer your desire is strong toward these things, reach out and get help. Don’t just give into it.

There is Someone you can trust and has the power to set you free from such behavior! His name is Jesus Christ.

John 8:36 (NKJV) 36 Therefore if the Son makes you free, you shall be free indeed.

If you need to talk or you need prayer, or maybe you need answers to your questions, call or write us.

Bible Verse of The Day – 4-8-24

Isaiah 55:9 (NKJV) 9 “For as the heavens are higher than the earth, So are My ways higher than your ways, And My thoughts than your thoughts.

I love my God with my whole heart.

The love that I have for Him transcends what can be expressed with human thoughts or mere words.

Why do I love Him this way?

There are far too many reasons. But let me try to put some of them on paper so He will receive the glory and honor due Him.

He is a God of mercy. He forgave me and adopted me as His child when I deserved punishment for my sins.

He is a God of compassion. He drew me to Himself to offer me His redemption through Christ while I was still a vile sinner.

He is the God who heals me. He delivered and healed me from asthma, setting me completely free after battling the “incurable” disease for over 30 years.

He is the God who provides for my every need. He has kept me and sustained me through many seasons of famine, even during times when I had almost nothing left and was about to lose even those things.

And He is a God who never gives up on me. He embraced me when I was lost and wandering, having no understanding of my sinful condition, and He made me a new creation in Christ.

His creation is rich in breathtaking beauty.

His ways blow my mind. They are more than anyone can comprehend.

His sovereignty is more powerful than anyone can conceive, working and moving in ways that are a mystery to even the most intelligent minds.

This is not about me. I am not special.

God will do all these things for you. All it takes is a humble heart and a willingness to surrender to Him.

Will you do that today? He is waiting.

Jeremiah 29:13 (NKJV) 13 And you will seek Me and find Me, when you search for Me with all your heart.

Bible Verse of The Day – 4-6-24

Philippians 2:12 (NKJV) 12 Therefore, my beloved, as you have always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but now much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling;

Yesterday’s devotional ended with the verse above.

This verse is one I have always found fascinating for the fact that it lays a “burden of proof” on the shoulders of believers regarding “working out their salvation” on an individual basis.

Because salvation is the gift of God, given by faith, not by works, how can we reconcile being told to work it out with fear and trembling?

Would “working it out” not tie it somehow to being saved by our works?

It may seem that way at first, but if we look more closely, we will see that it does not.

With that said, let us look more closely!

What did Paul mean when he said “work out your own salvation” with fear and trembling?

We know right away that he was not referring to gaining salvation by our good works. The scriptural evidence against that concept is far too great.

So, what did he mean?

“Work out your own salvation with fear and trembling” refers specifically to the responsibility of each believer to make a purposeful, conscious effort to actively pursue obedience in the process of being transformed by the renewing of our minds in Christ.

God wants each of us to be transformed. He desires us to grow and mature as believers. Part of that maturing process is leaving our sinful ways behind and walking daily in holiness.

This is not salvation by works. It is obedience to God and His word. It is the process of learning to live lives of sanctification.

And, what about that “fear and trembling” part?

As children of the Most High, the God of heaven, it is both, healthy and wise, to reverently fear offending Him, and walk in a righteous awe and respect for Him.

What does the word of God say about this?

The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom (Proverbs 9:10).

No, we are not saved by works. Yes, we should “work out our own salvation” with fear and trembling.

Bible Verse of The Day – 4-5-24

Galatians 3:27 (NKJV) 27 For as many of you as were baptized into Christ have put on Christ.

Each day we rise from our sleep and begin to prepare for the day ahead.

For many, part of that preparation is deciding what to wear; what clothing we will put on.

In the verse above, Paul wrote that if we have been baptized into Christ we put on Christ.

And just as we choose our clothing each day, we must choose whether we will wear Christ or not.

We must choose whether we will live and behave in a way that Glorifies Him and represents the kingdom of God, or if we will walk in the ways of the world.

You see, being a follower of Christ is a choice we make.

We make a choice to put our faith and trust in Him, and then we choose to walk with Him daily or not.

Some may frown at that notion saying, “if we have put our faith in Christ, then we are walking with Him (putting Him on) automatically each day”.

But the reality is that this is not always true.

The enemy is always knocking at our door, tempting us to “take Christ off” by emulating or following the path of the world.

No, if we make a poor choice and sin, which we are all guilty of from time to time, we have not necessarily taken Christ off.

But if those sins become habitual, and our faith falters, we are in danger of taking Him off and leaving Him behind.

And this is what Paul was warning the Galatian believers about.

So, it is pertinent that we make every effort to walk out our salvation daily, with fear and trembling, as Paul spoke to the Philippian believers about.

Philippians 2:12 (NKJV) 12 Therefore, my beloved, as you have always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but now much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling;

Bible Verse of The Day – 4-4-24

Numbers 22:28 (NKJV) 28 Then the Lord opened the mouth of the donkey, and she said to Balaam, “What have I done to you, that you have struck me these three times?”

God opened the mouth of a donkey. Wow!

The donkey spoke to Balaam and he heard the donkey.

This is so hard to comprehend. But it’s so like Him!

We can not put God in a box.

If we need to hear from Him, we must let Him speak. Trust what He is saying to us today.

Whether it’s through His word, or another person, it could come in a way we never thought of. In the case above He used a donkey.

Maybe you’re thinking, “well, I don’t know. I’m not used to God speaking directly to me. I’m used to doing things my own way. And what if He tells me to do something in a way I don’t want to do it? If so I’ll just wait and see if He changes His mind and lets me do it my way”.

If we feel that way, it very well could be why nothing is moving forward and we feel like our situation is getting worse.

Waiting to hear what we want to hear can cause us to miss what He is doing. We need to take the steps He has already told us to take and follow through with them.

God is a Father who wants the very best for us. He’s not just going to tell us to do this or do that.

No. He will make it fit and make it work according to His divine plan for us.

He does not want us to fail. He is for us and will do whatever needs to be done to help us.

Let today be our day of doing His will as He guides us and shows us the good and right way of doing things.

Even Jesus denied His own will when He said, not my will Father, but yours be done.

Luke 22:42 (NKJV) 42 saying, “Father, if it is Your will, take this cup away from Me; nevertheless not My will, but Yours, be done.”

Bible Verse of the Day – 4-3-24

Colossians 2:16-17 (NKJV) 16 So let no one judge you in food or in drink, or regarding a festival or a new moon or sabbaths, 17 which are a shadow of things to come, but the substance is of Christ.

As Paul wrote to the Colossian church, he warned them not to pay heed to the false teachings that had been circulating among their ranks.

A group of heretics had begun to propagate legalistic teachings that pulled the believers back into the bondage of the Mosaic Law, suggesting that they must hold fast to the traditions of old.

This included mandatory adherence to the keeping of various celebrations and dietary restrictions.

Paul told them specifically that these practices were but a shadow of things to come. They were fulfilled by Christ Himself.

Christ’s fulfillment of these things releases believers from the old covenant, setting them free and doing away with the old.

No longer are we obligated to abstain from certain types of food.

No longer are we obligated to participate in the annual religious celebrations of the Jewish calendar, such as Passover, Pentecost, or the Feast of Tabernacles.

Likewise, we are no longer obligated to keep or celebrate the sabbath.

Romans 14:5-6 (NKJV) 5 One person esteems one day above another; another esteems every day alike. Let each be fully convinced in his own mind. 6 He who observes the day, observes it to the Lord; and he who does not observe the day, to the Lord he does not observe it. He who eats, eats to the Lord, for he gives God thanks; and he who does not eat, to the Lord he does not eat, and gives God thanks.

So, let us do what we do as unto God. Whether we choose to eat, or not to eat certain foods, let us give thanks to God for what we eat.

And whether we choose to celebrate or not celebrate a certain day or a certain festival, let us do so unto God.

And let us not look down at those who choose to live and celebrate differently than we do, as we walk out our own convictions, knowing that Christ came to fulfill the law and bring freedom to us all.

Bible Verse of The Day – 4-2-24

Revelation 3:19 (NKJV) 19 As many as I love, I rebuke and chasten. Therefore be zealous and repent.

When God corrects us, it is because He loves us. He loves us more than we could ever know. And He will show us when we have done wrong.

Whether it’s a big sin or little, in His eyes sin is sin. He will point it out.

We must listen for that voice of correction and the promptings of the Holy Spirit just as much as we listen for His encouragement.

The verse here says, be zealous (eager) to repent.

If we don’t deal with our sin, it will take us out.

Sin is something that will eat away at our health, our marriage, the raising of our children correctly, our work performance, and anything we touch.

Sin brings death and destruction if not dealt with.

When we know what it is we are doing wrong, we should nip it quickly. Don’t play with it. Don’t flirt with it.

We must repent and turn from it, getting our heart back on track.

Amen.

Bible Verse of The Day – 4-1-24

Psalm 46:1 (NKJV) 46 God is our refuge and strength, A very present help in trouble.

When we face difficult times, there are many places or people we can turn to in search of help.

And some of those people or places will go to great lengths to help us.

But there is no help like the help we find in our God.

People can offer us only what they understand, or what they know from personal experience.

Sometimes their help is remarkably good.

Human compassion is incredible. It is something that God has instilled in us, His creations.

But when push comes to shove, God alone holds the perfect answers.

His caring and compassion far exceed what we humans can offer.

His understanding is exceedingly higher than ours.

And His ways transcend human logic and intellect.

So, as we face trials, dangers and difficulties in life, let us do as David did; reach out to the One who holds the perfect answers.

And let Him give us that peace that surpasses all understanding.

Philippians 4:6-7 (NKJV) 6 Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; 7 and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.
