Bible Verse of The Day – 11-11-14

1 Kings 19:11-12 (NKJV) 11 Then He said, “Go out, and stand on the mountain before the Lord.” And behold, the Lord passed by, and a great and strong wind tore into the mountains and broke the rocks in pieces before the Lord, but the Lord was not in the wind; and after the wind an earthquake, but the Lord was not in the earthquake; 12 and after the earthquake a fire, but the Lord was not in the fire; and after the fire a still small voice.

I love the fact that when God passed by Elijah, there was a great wind that came and tore into the mountains, breaking the rocks into pieces, simply by His presence! God is so awesome and powerful.

But at the same time, I love the fact that He speaks to us in a still, small voice. A voice that requires us to have faith, to be still and listen for Him.

If God moved with mighty winds and crashing thunder all the time it would require no faith or effort on our part. Our walk with Him would require nothing more than us looking for the next big crash and then knowing that God was there.

But because He chooses to speak to us quietly, it requires us to pay attention to Him and make a conscious choice to want to hear Him.

Yes, it might seem harder that way, but anything that’s really worth having takes a bit of effort on our part.

Bible Verse of The Day – 10-28-14

Matthew 6:27 (NKJV) 27 Which of you by worrying can add one cubit to his stature?

What are you worrying about today?

Is it your budget and your finances? Is it your loved ones who are lost or have strayed from God? Is it your bills that are past due, as they pile up and the bill collectors call relentlessly?

Maybe it’s none of these, or maybe it’s all of them and others that we didn’t mention. It really doesn’t matter which of them it might be. It doesn’t matter whether it’s something “small” or not, we tend to worry about so many things in life.

Sometimes it seems like we spend more time worrying than not worrying. But God wants us to trust Him  with everything, even when those things seem impossible to overcome.

Trials and tough times test us and show us who we are and where our faith lies. When hard times come, do we immediately start trying to figure it all out and sort out the details of how we’re going to fix the problem?

Or do we give God room to move in our situation, resting in Him and doing only those things that He shows us to do? It’s hard to do this at first, but as we let God grow our faith, it becomes easier and easier to lean on Him and trust Him.

Philippians 4:6 (NKJV) 6 Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God;

Bible Verse of The Day – 10-17-14

Jeremiah 33:3 (NKJV) 3 ‘Call to Me, and I will answer you, and show you great and mighty things, which you do not know.’

About 15 years ago, before we were pastors, we were attending a church service one Sunday. We were raising two daughters and we were going through a tough financial trial in our life. We didn’t share with anyone about what we were going through. Only God knew.

That day, after church was over, the Pastor walked up to us and handed us an envelope and said that someone wanted us to have it. He didn’t say who it was from. We weren’t sure what to expect or what it  was all about.

We got out to our vehicle and opened the envelope and to our surprise there were 3 one hundred dollar bills, 3 ten dollar bills and 3 one dollar bills, totaling $333.00.

We were so grateful, because it came at the perfect time and only God knew what we needed.

As I was reading Jeremiah 33:3 today, God reminded me of what He did for us that day in church so many years ago, and how at that time when we cried out to Him, He did a great thing for us.

It opened our eyes to see that as we pray and trust God, oh how faithful He is to take care of His children!

Cry out to Him today and thank Him, for He will do GREAT and MIGHTY things which we do not know. Amen

Bible Verse of The Day – 9-15-14

Matthew 11:28 (NKJV) 28 Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.

Friday I spent the day at the courthouse, trying to help someone I care deeply about. This person made a mistake and acted out on their emotions. There was a part of them that truly thought they were doing the right thing, but they went about it in the wrong way.

How many times do we try to do something with good intentions in our hearts and it backfires on us? I spent all day, going from one courtroom to the other. I came home that day feeling awful, disappointed to some degree, and helpless for that person.

I went to bed early that night, but before falling asleep I thanked God, because in spite of how I felt, I knew God was in the midst of it all.

Did it turn out the way I was hoping for? Nope. We don’t always know how things are going to turn out, but as we pray and trust God, He does what is best for the situation and we have to leave it at that and let God’s plan unfold.

If you are feeling disappointed today, things might not have turned out the way you thought they would, and you are trying to figure out what happened and why, take a few minutes and spend some time, just you and God.

Talk it out with Him. He will hold your hand, help you through and bring understanding.

Rest in Him today, in spite of how your circumstances look.

Bible Verse of The Day – 9-13-14

Philippians 4:11-12 (NKJV) 11 Not that I speak in regard to need, for I have learned in whatever state I am, to be content: 12 I know how to be abased, and I know how to abound. Everywhere and in all things I have learned both to be full and to be hungry, both to abound and to suffer need.

We all have wants, desires, goals and dreams. We may have career goals… a special field of work where we want to be making our living. Or maybe we want a spouse, someone to spend our life with. There are so many thing we can want or desire.

And these things can all be good. There’s nothing wrong with having these dreams and desires.

Sometimes, though, we can tend to get ahead of ourselves and ahead of God with some of our dreams and goals. We know where we want to be and we want to be there right now.

But there are different seasons in our lives and we need to be careful to move within the season where God has us at this moment in time, not too soon or too late. If we get ahead of God or fall behind Him we can miss out on the blessings and the lessons He has for us right here, right now.

So if your career isn’t quite where you want it to be right now, seek God. Ask Him if you’re where you need to be. Maybe that next step up the ladder is just around the corner but He wants us to learn to be satisfied and content where He has us right now before He lets us move on.

Maybe our future wife or husband is waiting for us too, but there are things that God is working out before we get to be with them.

Be content in all things. Trust God. Then and only then will He allow us to move on to the next season!

Bible Verse of The Day – 9-6-14

Job 1:1 (NKJV) 1 There was a man in the land of Uz, whose name was Job; and that man was blameless and upright, and one who feared God and shunned evil.

Today, we’d like to tell you a story. This is a story about a man who lost everything he had. He was a very wealthy man. The loss that he incurred was no fault of his own.

He was a righteous man who loved God and honored Him in everything he did. Even while he was worshiping God and honoring Him, severe calamity stuck and in a matter of a few hours, he lost all of his earthly possessions and every, single one of his children. The only family member who remained was his wife.

Job went from what most people would consider to be the ideal life, to complete devastation, in less than 24 hours, without doing a single thing wrong, and with no warning whatsoever.

Maybe you’re reading this today and you can relate to this. Maybe you’ve been going through a severe trial. Maybe you’re in the midst of a famine right now. The well has run dry and you don’t know where to turn or how you’re going to survive.

Maybe you’ve lost someone who was very close or dear to you and you don’t know why it happened or how you’re going to make it through without them.

Take heart. We’re here to tell you that what you’re going through is only for a season. Seasons come and seasons go. None of them last forever. Yes, sometimes they can seem like they last forever, but they truly don’t.

Job endured extreme hardship and yet he chose to bless God and worship Him in the midst of it all, even while covered in excruciatingly-painful sores. He had people telling him to just give up, curse God and die. And yet he chose to ignore them and worship God anyway.

What will we do in the midst of our hardships and trials? What will we do while we’re mourning the loss of a loved one? We have to choose. Yes, we are human and we are allowed to mourn. It’s part of how God made us.

But when the time comes to pick ourselves up and get moving, we better do just that! It may take us some time to get back on our feet, but God will give us strength and help us, if we let Him.

What’s awesome, though, is how the story of Job turned out, after all of the intense persecution and incredible loss.

Job 42:10 (NKJV) 10 And the Lord restored Job’s losses when he prayed for his friends. Indeed the Lord gave Job twice as much as he had before.

So don’t give up! Hold onto God and let Him be your source. Let Him be your light during this dark time.

This season of trials and turmoil won’t last forever. Let Him lead you out, and bless Him even in the midst of it all.

Bible Verse of The Day – 8-6-14

Luke 12:24-25 (NKJV) 24 Consider the ravens, for they neither sow nor reap, which have neither storehouse nor barn; and God feeds them. Of how much more value are you than the birds? 25 And which of you by worrying can add one cubit to his stature?

Are you worried about anything?

Are you facing a big decision or some kind of major change in your life, and you’re feeling uncertain about how it might turn out?

I think we can safely say that most of us are in this boat, to one degree or another. And some of us may be at a very major crossroads in our lives, not knowing which way to turn. And the thought of making the wrong choice gives us a sinking feeling.

Well, at the risk of sounding cliché, stop worrying about it.

We know that might not be very comforting, but trust us when we tell you that worrying about it will only make things worse for you.

Now, this doesn’t mean that we should be nonchalant about everything, not caring whether we do the right thing or not. But this is where our faith comes in and we learn to pull on God and lean on Him, listening ever so intently for the voice of the Holy Spirit… that “still small voice”.

As we wrestle with these kinds of decisions, it is God’s leading that will give us peace in the midst of our storm and show us which way to go when it seems oh so dark ahead of us.

We can say this with absolute confidence, because God has led us through some very trying times these past two years, and on to victory. It wasn’t always easy to hear Him, but we did our best to be diligent and heed His voice.

And in the end, we truly saw that worrying never helped us one little bit.

Trust Him.

Bible Verse of The Day – 8-2-14

(Proverbs 29:25 NKJV)  The fear of man brings a snare, But whoever trusts in the LORD shall be safe.

The definition of safe is: not able or likely to be hurt or harmed in any way: not in danger, not able or likely to be lost, taken away, or given away.

We can all agree that we like to be SAFE! In order to be completely safe we must put our trust in the Lord alone and not fear what man may say or try to do to us.

Being fearful of man brings a snare.

What’s a snare? It’s a position or situation from which it is difficult to escape.

None of us want to be in this type of position. To avoid it, we must trust in the Lord, even if at times we can’t fully understand Him.

Trust in Him and what His word says and eventually He will bring understanding.

There is safety for all those that trust Him!

Bible Verse of The Day – 7-18-14

Zechariah 4:6 (NKJV) So he answered and said to me: “This is the word of the Lord to Zerubbabel: ‘Not by might nor by power, but by My Spirit,’ Says the Lord of hosts.

As we walk though our lives and we encounter various situations, trials, difficulties, etc., we often call on God to help us or deliver us from them.

When we do, we always seem to have preconceived ideas as to how God should do it. Most times these ideas involve God swooping down in some miraculous way, making a grand display of His power and might, crushing our problems with His awesomeness!

On the contrary, though, it’s almost never this way.

God rarely does things the way we expect Him to. He does things the way they need to be done and in a way that we would never have figured out in advance, so we can’t take the credit for it and to build our trust and faith in Him.

So if you’re in a bit of trouble right now, or if you encounter trouble in your future, go ahead and ask God to help you, but don’t expect it to be the way you think it should be.

Not by might nor power, but by His spirit!

Bible Verse of The Day – 5-23-14

(Psalm 37:3 NKJV)  Trust in the LORD, and do good; Dwell in the land, and feed on His faithfulness.

What is it in us that makes us feel like we have to know that everything is going to work out ahead of time?

For me it gives me relief and a sense of peace, knowing that it’s all going to work out according to my figures, understanding, ideas, arrangements etc.

I don’t like surprises that throw me off my plan or my budget. Really, is there any room for God to move or work in this kind of realm? From my experience, I have to say “No, there is not!” If we don’t let God in, then we are on our own.

This is where I needed to learn that if I want to see God move in my situation, I need to leave some room for Him to do whatever He may want to do. I do this by being open and flexible with my plan.

These two words, open and flexible, didn’t used to be in my vocabulary. When someone gave me something to do, there was no flexibility or openness for change. I just wanted to get it done with my own understanding and experience.

But over time I learned that I had to step back and settle down and put my ideas, agenda, and plans before God, waiting on Him, of course, to see if He had any suggestions or changes that He wanted to make. That’s when it becomes our plan, not just mine.

What peace I have now that I’ve realized that I don’t always have to have my own plan and it doesn’t have to go my way to work out. There are other ways to get it done, and sometimes ways that I don’t know.

Trust God and feed on His faithfulness. He will come through!!

Bible Verse of The Day – 3-31-14

Hebrews 1:10 (NKJV) 10 And, You, Lord, in the beginning laid the foundation of the earth, and the heavens are the work of Your hands. 11 They will perish, but You remain…

Are there things that you’re unsure of? Are there things that trouble you and cause you to question things about your life?

We probably all wrestle with certain things and there are probably things that we all struggle with from time to time. No matter who we are, or who we might happen to interact with, someone is going through a trial of some kind.

We all try to hide our fears and concerns. Some of us do a better job of covering it up than others.

But in all of our doubt, concern and fear, there is one thing that is sure, and that is this; though the heavens and the earth may perish, God will remain.

There are so many things that come our way, so many things that can try to bring us down. Sometimes we might shake our heads and wonder how we can take one more thing. But through it all, God is our foundation and our source.

Though things and people will let us down, God will forever be our foundation and our rock, if we let Him be!

Start your week off right. Take those things that are causing you stress and worry, and those things that are causing you to fear, and trust God with them. No, it’s not always easy to do, but trusting God with them is surely better than trying to figure them out by ourselves.

Trust Him.
