Bible Verse of The Day – 8-22-17

Isaiah 43:18-19 (NKJV) 18 “Do not remember the former things, Nor consider the things of old. 19 Behold, I will do a new thing, Now it shall spring forth; Shall you not know it? I will even make a road in the wilderness And rivers in the desert.

Are we so busy trying to hang on to the past that we are missing out on today? This is a question we have to ask ourselves every so often. Why? Because we will have times in our lives that will stand out greater than others and we will want those times to stick around and stay forever. We want them to last.

But by living in the past, we stop ourselves from moving forward. When we do this, we are only going to hurt ourselves. It won’t bring anything back to the way that it was.

If we want to fix this problem, the first step we need to take is to recognize and accept the change that took place. Maybe it wasn’t a good change. Maybe it wasn’t necessarily something that should have happened. But, whatever it was, we need to face the fact that it did happen and things are different than they were.

The second thing we will have to do is begin to live with it by making the necessary adjustments. Don’t try to keep things the same way. Don’t keep going over it in our minds, thinking that maybe if we did this or maybe if we did that it could have changed things and the outcome would have been better. No. Just accept it. It is what it is now and all of the thinking and wondering won’t make it go back to the way it was.

The third and last thing is not to feel bad or guilty after the change, especially if we are enjoying our life. There is nothing wrong with enjoying our life, even after something has happened that may have caused us to be sad initially. Enjoying our life is a sure sign that we have moved on and adjusted well.

Let go of the past and move forward. There is so much more out there for each one of us if we will stop looking back and start looking forward.

Bible Verse of The Day – 1-2-17

1 Peter 5:6-7 (NKJV) 6 Therefore humble yourselves under the mighty hand of God, that He may exalt you in due time, 7 casting all your care upon Him, for He cares for you.

I remember when my niece, who was just a little girl, fell out of a moving car and into the road. After, as her daddy was holding her in his arms, she said “DADDY”, for the last time. A short time later she was gone.

I cannot describe the feeling I had, seeing her little body on the bed in the hospital ER, laying there; No movement and no life.

I remember her little stories that she would tell us about how her daddy would brush her hair at night before bedtime. Oh, how she loved that time. Our little sweet niece was gone and there was a hole in our hearts.

When my teenage nephew was in a terrible car accident a few years ago, he actually died for a short time as they removed him from the car. As they laid him on the stretcher they were able to revive him and get a heartbeat again.

They took him by helicopter to the hospital, bleeding from the brain, with several other severe injuries. Doctors said there was no way he would make it through the night. He is still alive and thriving today.

Why does one live and one not make it? This is a question that many people have.

Seasons of life can be devastating, shocking and can seem unbearable. People go through extremely difficult things daily all over the world. We just don’t know it, unless they are friends or family members.

Along with losing a loved one, there are other kinds of losses that can affect us greatly.

For example, divorce is a loss. The sudden ending of a longtime friendship is a loss. Unemployment is a loss. Miscarriage is a loss. Abortion is a loss, etc.

There are many kinds of losses that people go through that are very difficult to endure.

One of the things we need to remind ourselves of is that whatever loss we go through, life is not over. It is not the end for us. Yes, that loss is real, it is painful and we must accept it. But we must keep living.

God can and will bring healing to that emptiness, that pain, that suffering, and that unbearable feeling that you can’t go on. There are things in life that, as humans, we can not withstand on our own. And if we try to, we will lose.

Trying to withstand it on our own will open the door to misery, anger, bitterness, jealousy, envy, hurtfulness and being just plain nasty toward others. God did not create us to carry these burdens on our own.

We can try to blame Him for it, saying “Why, God? Why did You let this happen to me or to them?”. And we can be stubborn and push away from Him. But it will not help bring the healing that we need. It will not help us or the situation. It will just bring more pain.

We will never get past this on our own. Healing comes from within, and if we don’t let it out and talk about it, there will be no healing taking place. Instead, there will just be a constant ache in our heart every day.

God loves you and wants to help. Reach out to Him today. Get the help He wants to give you.

Bible Verse of The Day – 10-15-16

Psalm 147:3 (NKJV) 3 He heals the brokenhearted And binds up their wounds.

Are you hurting today?

Have you been through something that has left you feeling like the wind has been taken from your sails?

Does it feel like you’ve gotten hit so hard that it has left you reeling, wondering if you can even go on with your life?

First off, know that you’re not alone. There are people who care for you deeply and want to help you. No, they can’t take away the pain and the anguish you might be feeling. But they can love you, encourage you and help you along until you’re able to stand on your own again.

Most importantly, though, God is there for you. God is the chief healer of broken hearts. He created us, so who can know us any better than He does?

He knows our thoughts before we think them and our words before we speak them. No one knows us better than He does, so who is better qualified to help us in our time of need.

Psalm 139:1-4 (NKJV) 1 O Lord, You have searched me and known me. 2 You know my sitting down and my rising up; You understand my thought afar off. 3 You comprehend my path and my lying down, And are acquainted with all my ways. 4 For there is not a word on my tongue, But behold, O Lord, You know it altogether.

So reach out to Him today, right now. Cry out if you need to. Take your pain and your grief and lay it at His feet. Surrender it to Him and let Him give you peace where you’ve only known sorrow and frustration.

We pray healing over your heart, your emotions and your spirit, in the name of Jesus.

Bible Verse of The Day – 9-15-14

Matthew 11:28 (NKJV) 28 Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.

Friday I spent the day at the courthouse, trying to help someone I care deeply about. This person made a mistake and acted out on their emotions. There was a part of them that truly thought they were doing the right thing, but they went about it in the wrong way.

How many times do we try to do something with good intentions in our hearts and it backfires on us? I spent all day, going from one courtroom to the other. I came home that day feeling awful, disappointed to some degree, and helpless for that person.

I went to bed early that night, but before falling asleep I thanked God, because in spite of how I felt, I knew God was in the midst of it all.

Did it turn out the way I was hoping for? Nope. We don’t always know how things are going to turn out, but as we pray and trust God, He does what is best for the situation and we have to leave it at that and let God’s plan unfold.

If you are feeling disappointed today, things might not have turned out the way you thought they would, and you are trying to figure out what happened and why, take a few minutes and spend some time, just you and God.

Talk it out with Him. He will hold your hand, help you through and bring understanding.

Rest in Him today, in spite of how your circumstances look.
