Psalm 31:14 (LSB) 14 But as for me, I trust in You, O Yahweh, I say, “You are my God.”
Our walk with God is based on faith; we must believe that He is if we are to walk with Him (Hebrews 11:6).
But with faith comes something else that can sometimes be difficult for our flesh; trust.
We must trust God, with everything.
It’s easy to say that we trust Him with our eternal salvation; something we view as only relevant to our future, which always seems distant.
But trusting Him with our here and now can sometimes be a different story.
Why?
Because it is right now, in our face, affecting our present situations.
Case in point. I was out for a bike ride recently. I try to ride as often as possible to stay healthy, and to break away from being in a constant state of working. It is my escape, so to speak.
On this particular day, the temperature was high, in the low 90s (Fahrenheit). And the sun was beating down, so it felt even hotter. But I didn’t mind that. I just took it in stride and paced myself accordingly.
As I rode, I hit a pocket of air that was markedly warmer than the ambient temperature. It caught my attention and snapped me out of my lull.
And as I looked around at the surrounding scenery, I had a split second where I grasped again the fact that I was no longer in RI, where we lived for over 40 years, but in NC, where God told us to move to almost 5 years ago.
And as that happened, I said “God, what am I doing here?”.
The question was sincere, yet almost rhetorical.
And immediately I got my answer; “You’re trusting Me”.
That was it. No explanation. No expounding. Nothing additional.
You’re trusting Me.
You see, sometimes we think we need to know more. We think God owes us an explanation.
I didn’t expect an answer. I was just asking a question that came out suddenly. And it surprised me even as I whispered it.
But you see, God is faithful, in everything.
And He knows our hearts. So, He answered me.
He knew I wasn’t questioning Him in a way that was rebellious or angry. And I was not expressing doubt about what He had asked us to do.
But what He said taught me a huge lesson; that our purpose for moving to NC wasn’t grand or deep in the sense that he brought us here to build something new or magnificent.
He brought us here to teach us to trust Him.
And even as I write these words, that thought is overwhelming me, bringing tears to my eyes knowing that He wants to be so deeply involved in our lives that He would orchestrate this entire move just to teach us to trust Him more.
But that’s who He is. He will move in our lives as much as we allow Him to. He longs for us to love Him and trust Him in ways that our minds can’t comprehend. That’s the whole of it. He doesn’t need a grand project. He wants your trust.
And whatever journey He sets before you—big or small—take the step. Do it.
You will not regret it 🙏🏻
