1 Corinthians 6:9-11 (LSB) 9 Or do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived; neither the sexually immoral, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor homosexuals, 10 nor thieves, nor the greedy, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor swindlers, will inherit the kingdom of God. 11 And such were some of you; but you were washed, but you were sanctified, but you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and in the Spirit of our God.

When Jesus sets us free, there is no question that we are TRULY free. Our bonds have been BROKEN; forever shattered and disposed of.

Those whom Jesus sets free are FREE INDEED.

Alcoholics Anonymous can’t set you free.

Narcotics anonymous can’t set you free.

Yes, they can try to help you avoid falling to the sin that has ensnared you. And each of them has some benefits that help millions of people. But you will never truly be free.

You will forever be labeled a drug addict, alcoholic, porn addict, depressed, fearful, anxious, etc.

And while finding some relief is good, true freedom in Christ is BETTER.

Why?

Because it is final. It is true. It is absolute.

It is FREE INDEED.

No longer are you subject to a label that names your struggle and is pinned to you for the rest of your life.

You have the opportunity to wear a new label; Set Free in the Name of Jesus.

You are now a former alcoholic, former drug addict, former porn addict, former sex addict, former nicotine addict, former homosexual, former adulterer, former fornicator, former thief, former extortionist.

We invite you and encourage you to let Jesus set you FREE INDEED.

There is no freedom like freedom in Christ.

The struggle can end right here, right now if we choose to make it so.

Be free in the name of Jesus!

2 Corinthians 5:17 (NKJV) 17 Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new.

As we have addressed in the two previous days, there are some, including followers of Christ, who wrestle with various bondages to the extent that their lives, and the lives of those around them, are disrupted, and perhaps even in perpetual chaos because of it.

Many times, this is due to choices that have been made. And the consequences for those choices spill over into everyday life.

We will dedicate the rest of this study to those situations.

And I will reiterate that some may find this offensive. But this must be stated if freedom is ever to come to people who are forever wrestling with these things.

Many people struggle with the results of things that they have dabbled in, or outright immersed themselves in.

Pornography, sexual immorality, drunkenness, homosexuality, idolatry, drugs, thievery, and many more of these hold people as slaves for decades.

These things have become their masters. And just as human slaves answer to and obey their human master, people in bondage to these things answer to their sin master.

They feel powerless to escape it, to stop the effects of it on their lives, and to break free from it.

And it is true that they cannot break free if they are trying to do so by human power, by the might of man. For if they could have done so, they would have been freed years ago.

But the bonds of these things are destroyed only by one thing; the power of the Holy Spirit and the name of Jesus Christ.

But we are made new in Christ.

The old things have passed away.

All things become new.

Let’s wrap this up tomorrow.

As we left off yesterday, we had established that being set free by Christ gives us genuine freedom.

To state that more clearly, there is NO ELEMENT of slavery remaining.

The bonds have been obliterated, cut off, destroyed, and disposed of.

Let’s look more closely so we don’t leave anything unexplained or misunderstood.

Now, I am about to state some Biblical truths that some will receive without hesitation, while others may bristle up and be offended by them.

I’m OK with either reaction because what I am sharing is 100% rooted and grounded in God’s word.

If you doubt any of it, please refer to scripture.

There are millions (perhaps even billions) of people, including followers of Christ, who live each day in bondage; slavery to one thing or another.

Some of these bondages are life-altering, both for them and their loved ones. Some have dire consequences.

Some have been wrestling with these things for more years than they care to admit to. And in all their wrestling, they have not found freedom nor relief.

Some of these things are viewed as medical conditions. They have been told by doctors that there is no cure. They are stuck with it for the remainder of their lives. They have been given medication that offers some relief, but no cure.

Still other conditions are not necessarily medical, but the consequences of choices that have been made. And those consequences are heavy to bear, even for the family members of the person who made the choices.

This is a serious topic that deserves the proper time and attention to bring understanding, and light where is currently confusion and darkness.

Let’s continue tomorrow so we are sure to cover it thoroughly.

There is a very important truth in this verse that is too frequently overlooked, and perhaps even forgotten in the modern church.

It is not mysterious. But it is hidden in plain sight right before our eyes.

Jesus stated in plain words that if the Son makes you free, you will be free indeed.

He was not speaking symbolically or in parables. He was not using a metaphor or hyperbole.

But most of us miss the true depth of His statement. I missed it for years until God opened my eyes to the fullness of what is embedded in the words of Jesus here.

Jesus states emphatically and with no apologies that if He sets you free, you will be free indeed.

That word, indeed, is critical to fully understanding what He meant.

The word, indeed, represents finality, absoluteness. It leaves nothing remaining; no questions about its truth and power. No ifs, ands, or buts.

You WILL be free. PERIOD.

Now, let’s unpack that, so we are sure to miss nothing.

Freedom that takes place in and through Christ is freedom without question. It is ABSOLUTE freedom.

It is DELIVERANCE that breaks all chains and bonds. There is no element of slavery left in it.

Look at how it is worded in the Amplified Bible (Classis edition).

John 8:36 (AMPC) 36 So if the Son liberates you [makes you free men], then you are really and unquestionably free.

It is stated very clearly that if the Son (Christ) LIBERATES you, then you are really and unquestionably free.

In other words, there is no doubt about your freedom.

Now, we are starting to uncover the truth here, in its intended depth.

So, in order not to just brush over this, so we can cover it fully and do it justice, we will continue this tomorrow.
