Bible Verse of The Day – 9-8-21

Part 2

1 Corinthians 6:9 (NKJV) 9 Do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived. Neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor homosexuals, nor sodomites…

Thanks for joining us again!

We ended yesterday’s devotional with this question; Why would Paul be addressing sins such as these when writing to believers?

Here’s the answer.

  1. He wanted to make a specific point that would help reinforce some things he had said that weren’t necessarily directly related to these sins, but that might make it easier for people to understand the big picture.
  1. The sins he brings up are familiar to those he is addressing because they are prevalent in the geographic region where he is teaching. And some of these people may have once been involved in them, before becoming followers of Christ (1 Corinthians 6:11). This is the case with the specific group of people Paul was writing to in verses 9 & 10, the verses we’re studying.
  1. Some members of the church community where he is teaching may be practicing some of these things because they had been involved in them prior to becoming Christians and had not yet gained understanding that they were not acceptable and should be refrained from.

We need to take note of what Paul said before he listed the actual sins; Do not be deceived.

Paul warned them not to be deceived into thinking that practicing these sins was acceptable for believers.

The fact that he used those 4 words before naming the sins alludes to the fact that some of them somehow believed that it was OK to participate in these types of sins, and that it would not jeopardize their spiritual wellbeing.

He wanted to make it clear that this was false.

Now that we’ve covered that, let’s move ahead tomorrow and talk about the actual sins that were being addressed by Paul.

Bible Verse of the Day – 9-7-21

Part 1

1 Corinthians 6:9 (NKJV) 9 Do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God?…

Before we dive into the various things mentioned in verses 9 and 10, let’s preface this with two things.

First, this is not written to condemn anyone. We are writing this to bring light and understanding to some topics that are often avoided because they are deemed by some to be too sensitive and controversial to touch.

We, however, do not shy away from these things. And it’s for one reason that this is so; truth sets people free.

So, if truth sets people free, then truth needs to be spoken, even when these truths are difficult, sensitive, or even contentious.

Lastly, we want to bring hope and light into dark situations. People in darkness can’t find their way out without a beacon of light to follow. So, we want to offer that beacon, that ray of hope that draws them out of their sin, into God’s light, where forgiveness is offered and redemption can be found.

Let’s get started!

Verse 9, above, states that the unrighteous cannot inherit the kingdom of God.

This is a fairly simple way of stating that those who are not seen as righteous by God will not enter His kingdom; will not inherit eternal life or spend eternity in His presence, in heaven.

Knowing that, let’s talk about who is righteous in God’s sight.

In its simplest form, God sees as righteous those who have recognized themselves as sinners, sought His forgiveness and placed their faith in Him, through the death of Jesus Christ on the cross.

That’s the short definition of righteous.

We won’t dive too deeply into all of this. Suffice it to say that this is all we need to know for now in order to study the topic at hand.

With that said, we need to understand that these words, penned by the Apostle Paul, were being written to Christians; believers. They were not being written to the world or the “unsaved”.

Why would Paul write of such things when addressing the body of Christ?

That’s an excellent question. So, let’s use that as the springboard for tomorrow’s devotional, as we begin to go a little deeper!

Stay tuned for more, tomorrow.

Bible Verse of The Day – 9-6-21

Introduction

1 Corinthians 6:9-10 (NKJV) 9 Do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived. Neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor homosexuals, nor sodomites, 10 nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners will inherit the kingdom of God.

We live in an age of gray.

Black and white, right and wrong, have been swept under the rug and classified as antiquated and outdated.

Anything goes and is permissible in this “enlightened” time in the world’s history.

That’s what we would be told, anyway, by so many who support this kind of behavior.

Love is love, we’re told. It doesn’t matter who or what you love as long as you’re OK with it.

Sin is old fashioned, they say. Those values have gone out of style. And “who can truly define sin anyway?”, we hear again and again.

God’s word, however, tells us something vastly different. And though the world will tell us that God’s word is no longer relevant, or that we are misinterpreting it, they speak blindly and ignorantly, having no real knowledge of God or His word.

Sadly, much of this terrible, blasphemous ideology has trickled down into the church, being accepted by some believers as truth. And while some may not necessarily embrace it as truth, they will tolerate it and say that we are not to judge others.

We are here today to set the record straight and break this down so that the truth is clearly known, and there will be no question about what is right or wrong, based on what God’s word says about it.

This will not necessarily be all-encompassing. But it will give enough proof from God’s word to show that there should be no question about any of these topics.

Lastly, before we dive in, let’s be clear that this is not being done to throw stones, point fingers or condemn by our words.

God’s word convicts and also offers hope. So, let us be judged by the word of God, and let us be subject to God via His word, following that word on the path to an acute awareness of our sin, the need for genuine repentance, and a conscious choice to seek forgiveness as we follow Christ wholeheartedly, giving ourselves wholly to Him.

So, over the next several days, we will tackle these topics, one at a time, making sure that they are clear and irrefutable in the context of God’s word. We will define anything that may not be as clear as some might like it to be, making sure not to leave anything hidden or unclear wherever possible.

So, join us starting tomorrow for our newest teaching series. We’re looking forward to sharing it, and we hope you will truly enjoy it and it will help bring clarity and understanding where there may have been confusion.

Many people may know that God spoke through a donkey in the Old Testament, to teach a man a valuable lesson.

In today’s video, The Shadow, we teach from an equally unique perspective to show the importance of staying close to God.

This video is fun and informative, so we hope you’ll check it out and give it a watch.

Bible Verse of The Day – 9-4-21

Romans 8:7 (NKJV) 7 Because the carnal mind is enmity against God; for it is not subject to the law of God, nor indeed can be.

I know that I mess up at times.

Just the other day, I was having a good conversation, and while talking I said something that was funny to me. But, I was immediately convicted in my heart. I felt like a heel.

I thought to myself, wow, where did that come from? Do we really still have to go there?

I’ve been a Christian for many years, and some things are just so hard to do away with.

It’s like they hide themselves very well, and when we get with the right person they seem to pop up and say, “Hello, I’m still here”.

I get so mad at myself. But that’s good, because we need to realize we can’t give into carnality; we can’t give the flesh one inch.

The Bible says the mind is against God. We have to learn to keep it under control. Keep it aligned with the Word of God. This is an ongoing fight for a believer.

If we have one moment where we relax, it will try to have its way. We have to work really hard at renewing it.

The good thing is that we recognize it and work at trying to keep it in submission. If it didn’t make us mad when we messed up, then something would be terribly wrong.

Romans 12:2 (NKJV) 2 And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.

So, go ahead. Get mad at the carnality of our mind, and make it obey the word of God. Amen.

Bible Verse of The Day – 9-3-21

Psalm 73:28 (NKJV) 28 But it is good for me to draw near to God; I have put my trust in the Lord God, That I may declare all Your works.

Today, as I was looking out into our back yard, I saw a shadow moving on the door casing right next to me. It wasn’t big, but as I looked up onto the glass in our back door, I saw that it was a very tiny bug that was casting its shadow.

The shadow of this bug was much bigger than the bug itself. This was caused by a distance between the light (the sun), the bug, and the object that the shadow was being cast upon (the door casing).

God immediately showed me that it is the same with us and Him.

If we stay close to God, we cast no shadow ourselves. We only reflect His light onto others.

But if we pull away from Him, we begin to cast a shadow that is shaped like us, not Him. And the further we get from Him, the bigger that shadow gets, looking more and more like us, and less like Him.

This is why it’s so important for us to stay so very close to Him.

In addition to keeping our relationship with Him strong, it also keeps us humble, causing us to want people to see Him, not us.

Being close to Him prevents shadows from forming that may draw attention to us. And it will keep us from looking bigger than Him, as shadows can do sometimes.

There is nothing better than being close to Him. Nothing.

So, we urge you to seek Him. Stay close to Him. Make Him your everything.

Because in the big scheme of things, nothing else matters.

Bible Verse of The Day – 9-2-21

Psalm 119:160 (NKJV) 160 The entirety of Your word is truth, And every one of Your righteous judgments endures forever.

God’s word is truth. Amen.

Knowing His word will help us discern the times and keep us ahead of the game.

One of the benefits to being in His word regularly is staying alert to the ways the enemy is working against us.

One of those ways is through various types of addictions. The enemy will use them to work on us, little by little, to try to take us out.

How many of us believers struggle with some sort of addiction? Let us be real. This is our moment to own up and get help.

We all have dealt with addictions at one time or another. Whether small or big, they still have control over us.

There are addictions out there that will kill us physically and spiritually. We are not kidding when we say this. Be aware.

Usually they start off small, in little ways. We get these tendencies to try this or that, thinking they are harmless. But don’t be tempted because it will bite us in the end.

I was shopping one day. I went to check out. The cashier asked me, as they always do, ”would you like to use your credit card?”.

I said, “no, thank you. I don’t have a credit card”.

She continued by saying, “well, if you get one today you can save 10% on your purchase”.

I said, “no, thank you. No credit card for me”.

She continued to press me, saying, “are you sure? You shop in here often, and you could save a lot.”

Again, I said, “no, thank you, I save by shopping only when there are sales or discounts. I don’t have a credit card to my name and I am very happy and free”.

After all that she said, “Oh, that’s so nice. Good for you!!”.

Credit cards are not terrible if we use them correctly. But not everyone is disciplined enough to do that. And they can be a temptation for some, so be careful.

Addictions usually start off small and end up a big problem. So watch out for the people tempting you. They are smooth as butter. They know all the right words to say.

Other addictions like drinking, lusting, sexual perversion, smoking and overeating can do much harm to us.

There are some believers that get a thrill out of verbally abusing or humiliating people in front of others. That is an addiction to power.

There are a lot of things we can be addicted to.

Make sure we are paying attention and listening to God’s word. He will correct us and help us get free from these things.

They may seem innocent on the surface, but eventually they will bring destruction. They will cause some sort of death, either in relationships with people or with our Heavenly Father.

His word is clear on certain addictions.

Anything that comes between us and God that we can’t live without, or keep from doing, is the very thing we need to do away with.

The only thing that should matter more to us than anything is pleasing our Father with our words and our actions, and spending time with Him.

Psalm 19:14 (NKJV) 14 Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart Be acceptable in Your sight, O Lord, my strength and my Redeemer.

Bible Verse of The Day – 9-1-21

Matthew 7:6 (NKJV) 6 “Do not give what is holy to the dogs; nor cast your pearls before swine, lest they trample them under their feet, and turn and tear you in pieces.

This is a multi-faceted verse that can be used to teach us much!

One of the things that I have learned, especially in recent years with the onset of social media, is that there will be many people who will not want to hear the truth.

Truth can be very inconvenient because it may mean that we need to change.

It may prove that our opinion on something was incorrect.

It may show us that we weren’t as knowledgeable about something as we thought we were.

It may humble us and make us feel foolish.

So, in light of that, many people don’t like to hear truth. They would rather live in ignorance than to be shown the error of their ways or their understanding.

When social media first became a thing, I would often share my knowledge and understanding with others, thinking that it would be accepted.

I quickly found out that this isn’t always true. In fact, it is seldom true, especially when it involves people with beliefs that are contrary to the word of God.

So, over the years, I have had to learn when to speak and when to be silent, leaning heavily on the Holy Spirit to guide me and show me when to open my mouth and when to zip my lips and keep them shut.

It was a hard lesson for me to learn because if I know something is true, I like to share that truth with others.

But sometimes sharing truth is akin to throwing my pearls to the swine, to be trampled in the mud as worthless pieces of trash that mean nothing.

So, these days I don’t waste time tossing my pearls into the mud. I hold them close, and I only release them when God shows me to do so.

And if you’re feeling exasperated from having your pearls constantly trampled in the mud, ask God and let Him show you when to hand them out and when to hold them close.
