Bible Verse of The Day – 9-30-19

Romans 12:18 (NKJV) 18 If it is possible, as much as depends on you, live peaceably with all men.

If we look at this verse quickly, it might not seem very spiritual. We might think that getting along with everyone is something that just takes a little common sense and some courtesy to accomplish.

And while that might be true in the simplest of ways, there are many things that God says about this that we can learn a lot from if we pay attention to it.

First, we need to understand that we are all unique individuals. This means that we are all different, with different likes, dislikes, personalities, etc. These things alone can make it easy for us to look at each other with less than brotherly love, especially if we don’t have the Holy Spirit guiding us.

But God has equipped us with everything that we need to walk this out, learning to love others, even as we love ourselves.

Mark 12:31 (NKJV) 31 And the second, like it, is this: ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’ There is no other commandment greater than these.”

The key to this is letting God shape us and mold us, moving us closer and closer to becoming Christlike.

No, we will never be perfect, or exactly like Jesus. But we will change a little at a time as we let the Holy Spirit temper us and change the way we see things.

Let us do whatever is necessary to live peaceably with all men.

Amen

Bible Verse of The Day – 9-28-19

Matthew 7:3 (NKJV) 3 And why do you look at the speck in your brother’s eye, but do not consider the plank in your own eye?

Are we being real with ourselves? Are we facing those things in us that need some attention? Or do we act like nothing is wrong?

Being real with ourselves is the first step to getting healed and set free.

When we see some of the things in us that we prefer to overlook, ugh. It is kind of depressing. Some things are shocking. It’s like, “do I really do that?”.

But, eventually it catches up to us if we come across the right person and they are not afraid to speak up.

Don’t shun everyone that tells us things about ourselves that we don’t like to hear. They are usually saying what everyone else is thinking.

Look in the mirror from time to time and make sure we fix the things that need attention.

Bible Verse of The Day – 9-27-19

Matthew 6:1 (NKJV) 1 “Take heed that you do not do your charitable deeds before men, to be seen by them. Otherwise you have no reward from your Father in heaven.

As human beings who tend to think logically, we can sometimes get caught up in making sure we get the credit for anything we do.

This goes for things we do at work, at school, at church, or even in the home. We accomplish something, so we want to make sure we are recognized for it.

While it’s nice to get credit for what we have done, it’s also important to know that getting credit isn’t necessary if we do it with the right heart.

Jesus taught that the things we do to help others should not be done openly, but in secret.

Matthew 6:3 (NKJV) 3 But when you do a charitable deed, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing

If we choose to do it openly, and people give us accolades for what we have done, we have already received our reward in those accolades.

Matthew 6:2 (NKJV) 2 Therefore, when you do a charitable deed, do not sound a trumpet before you as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and in the streets, that they may have glory from men. Assuredly, I say to you, they have their reward.

But if we do it in secret, God will reward us for it in His way.

Matthew 6:4 (NKJV) 4 that your charitable deed may be in secret; and your Father who sees in secret will Himself reward you openly.

Our natural tendency is to tell others about what we do. But God wants to help us change that!

This takes a bit of discipline and training on our part, learning to share only what God wants us to share with others, and hold back those things that might cause others to give us praise for what we have done.

So, let’s keep doing those things that God has taught us to do. But let’s let Him show us how to do them in a way that won’t deliberately draw attention to ourselves in the process 🙂

Bible Verse of The Day – 9-26-19

1 Corinthians 14:1 (NKJV) 1 Pursue love, and desire spiritual gifts, but especially that you may prophesy.

These gifts cannot do justice without having a heart of love to flow through. It must be pure, having the right motive and with the right intentions.

If we can get love moving in us and then begin to walk in such gifts, God will be glorified and lifted up!

People will look to Him. People will see Him moving, and lives will be changed!

Go after love. Let God change our hard and bitter hearts.

Let Him strip away those things that linger in the background, tormenting us and keeping us in bondage.

Are we unhappy and miserable today? Are we hurting deep down inside? Have we lost the joy of living? God will help us to find that love, peace and joy that we lost through the different situations we have walked through in our lives.

Let Him mend our hearts. Pursue His love, get on the right track and then get His gifts flowing from that beautifully-healed heart.

Bible Verse of The Day – 9-25-19

Romans 8:6 (NKJV) 6 For to be carnally minded is death, but to be spiritually minded is life and peace.

Our goal as believers is to walk with God and live our lives in a way that’s pleasing to Him.

We can’t do that very well if we think and live carnally. We have to be spiritually minded.

Being spiritually minded changes us. It changes the way we think. And it changes the way we act.

Because of these changes, our lives take an entirely different path than if we simply lived them doing whatever we felt like doing.

But the biggest thing to take note of in these verses is the last part; to be spiritually minded is life and peace.

That short little piece of scripture holds the key that unlocks the answers to so many of the questions we have about life. It tells us plainly that to live spiritually minded is life, and it is peace.

If we truly want life, and we truly want peace, it is necessary that we set aside our carnal ways and let God teach us His ways, learning to live spiritually minded.

It’s worth every bit of time and effort it requires to learn to live this way. And God is faithful to help us get there, if we are just willing to make the effort.

Trust us when we tell you that there is nothing like it.

Bible Verse of The Day – 9-24-19

Matthew 7:15 (NKJV) 15 “Beware of false prophets, who come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly they are ravenous wolves.

When Jesus says to beware, what is He saying?

To beware of something means to be cautious and alert as to the danger of it. In other words, we need to be on guard, be alert.

Jesus compares false prophets to ravenous wolves. Ravenous wolves are considered very dangerous, vicious animals. They will bite and kill whatever they come in contact with.

These false prophets that we are to watch out for come to us in disguise. They appear to be gentle and harmless on the outside. But inside they are devious, and their motives are not what we think.

How can we discern them when we can’t see what people are like on the inside? The Bible tells us we will know them by their fruit.

Matthew 7:17 (NKJV) 17 Even so, every good tree bears good fruit, but a bad tree bears bad fruit.

We look, we listen, we see with our own eyes and we will hear with our own ears what kind of fruit they produce.

Some things will stand out and be very loud and clear. Other things may be a little harder to discern, but the Holy Spirit will help us.

Take heed. Don’t be misled, and then when we are hurt, blame it on God or run away from Him.

He warns us.  We must be on our toes and discern the things around us. If we see them, don’t stick around to get bit. Amen.

Bible Verse of The Day – 9-23-19

2 Timothy 2:15-16 (NKJV) 15 Be diligent to present yourself approved to God, a worker who does not need to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth. 16 But shun profane and idle babblings, for they will increase to more ungodliness.

Where are we in our walk with God?

Are we growing? Are we maturing?

A lot of this depends on two things. First, the leadership we place ourselves under and, second, whether we desire to grow or not.

Good Biblical leadership will foster growth and create a desire in people to grow as believers.

From the moment of conception, a child develops and grows. Physical growth will eventually stop, but the learning and maturing process should carry on for a lifetime. It’s just a natural part of the scheme of things.

And so it should be with children of God. We are birthed (born again), and then we should begin to grow and mature. The rate at which we grow will be different for each person. The important thing, though, is that we do grow.

Unlike natural growth, spiritual growth requires effort on our part. Just like intellectual growth, spiritual growth requires work and dedication. It also requires that our heart have a desire to draw closer to God. That desire is what drives our growth.

The question is, are we growing? Do we spend time in God’s word? Do we do what it tells us to do?

Don’t take this wrong. Simply following God’s laws won’t make us righteous, nor will it make us mature. But we should have a desire to walk out what God shows us in His word. This is a sign of maturity. It shows us where our heart is.

Here’s a little test for us. Are we in the same place spiritually that we were in 2 years ago? How about 5 years ago? Can we see that we have grown? Kind of makes you think, doesn’t it?

So, remember that we need to put God first in everything, being sure to spend time in His word regularly.

Yes, it takes work. It takes dedication. And it takes deliberate action on our part. But the benefits gained here and for eternity far outweigh all of the work required.

Bible Verse of The Day – 9-21-19

Lamentations 3:23 (NKJV) 23 They are new every morning; Great is Your faithfulness.

Have you ever prayed someone through a serious situation, and when all is said and done, and they get the victory, they give praise to themselves for being strong, or they gloat because they made it through?

Can we imagine how God must feel? He moved things around for us, opened doors for us, made preparations, and took the time to personally touch our situation with His miraculous Hand. And when the time comes to glorify Him, to give Him thanks, and to lift up His mighty name, instead, we turn it around and make it look like it was our bravery that got us through.

We have got to give credit to the One who deserves it. We have got to give thanks to the One who has made it possible. He is the One that deserves our praise.

Great is His faithfulness! Amen.

He is always there for us. He is listening, waiting and wanting to help us. He knows our very situation and is willing to carry us through.

Give Him praise today. Thank Him and know that He is the One that will bring us to the finish line. Know that we can do nothing without Him. It’s His faithfulness!

John 15:5 (NKJV) 5 “I am the vine, you are the branches. He who abides in Me, and I in him, bears much fruit; for without Me you can do nothing.

Let us abide in Him, giving Him the glory for the work done in and through us.

Bible Verse of The Day – 9-20-19

Hebrews 13:5 (NKJV) 5 Let your conduct be without covetousness; be content with such things as you have. For He Himself has said, “I will never leave you nor forsake you.”

For most people, the last part of this verse is what usually gets the emphasis; “I will never leave you nor forsake you.”.

But the first part of the verse is what makes the last part so important!

God reassures us that He will never leave us nor forsake us, no matter what our situation looks like.

The important thing is that we learn to be content with what we have, not being covetous or envious, longing after what others have.

We all go through times of lack, times when things are tough. Sometimes it’s financial difficulties. Other times it may be emotional struggles, where we feel alone or unloved. Still other times it may be health-related, where we are sick or battling various types of physical ailments.

It’s during those times when we may begin to look at what others have, and feel like we don’t have what we want or need. But it’s those times when we need to trust God wholly and remember that he has promised He will never leave us nor forsake us.

This doesn’t mean that everything will always be easy. Some situations will still be difficult.

But our security needs to be in Him, not in the things we have, regardless of what those things might be.

This kind of trust in God takes time to develop. It doesn’t happen overnight. And it doesn’t happen without a deliberate effort on our part.

It’s critical that we spend time in His word, time talking to Him and time listening to Him.

Then and only then will we fully understand the truth of this verse.
