Bible Verse of The Day – 10-31-19

Psalm 40:8 (NKJV) 8 I delight to do Your will, O my God, And Your law is within my heart.”

To delight in His will is a whole new ball game, so to speak.

This means that we put our ways aside and we do things His way, in His timing, and with the right attitude.

Some may not like what God has for us to do. But God knows us better than we know ourselves, and His will may be more satisfying than anything we may conjure up on our own.

If only we would just trust Him and stay at our post long enough to see it through, we would learn that His will for us is better than we could have imagined. It is much more fulfilling, satisfying and complete.

Delight in His will for us today and enjoy the journey! Amen.

Bible Verse of The Day – 10-30-19

Psalm 34:18 (NKJV) 18 The Lord is near to those who have a broken heart, And saves such as have a contrite spirit.

Every once in a while, a specific word will stand out to me when I’m reading various scriptures, verses, etc.

The word “contrite” always seems to catch my attention. It’s probably a word that we all overlook frequently when we see it, passing right over it as we continue to read.

But this word is actually very important, not only to the meaning of a verse where it’s used, but also in our own understanding when it comes to knowing God’s heart and His desires for His people.

Contrite: feeling or expressing remorse or penitence; affected by guilt. Remorseful, repentant, conscience-stricken.

So, having a contrite spirit means that we are truly repentant, sorry for our sins.

This doesn’t mean that we have to walk around with our heads hanging down, displaying outwardly visible signs of our repentant state. This may indeed happen to one degree or another. But God is more concerned with the inward state of our heart.

Part of salvation is recognizing our sin and our need to repent. It’s at the very moment that our heart becomes broken before God (due to our sin), and our spirit becomes contrite (repentant, sorry for our sins), that we walk through the door to new life as we put our faith in Jesus, our Savior.

As with everything else in our walk with God, it’s not about our outward appearance, but about the state of our heart. We can make ourselves appear remorseful on the outside, but still unrepentant and defiant on the inside.

Just a gentle reminder today that having a contrite heart is what God asks of us 🙂

Bible Verse of The Day – 10-29-19

3 John 1:2 (NKJV) 2 Beloved, I pray that you may prosper in all things and be in health, just as your soul prospers.

We are praying this verse over each one of you today. That you may prosper in all things, be in good health, and that you grow closer to God and prosper in your soul.

The closer we get to Him, oh how peaceful things become. His wisdom leads us and we walk in His understanding. What a beautiful thing!

We need Him to guide us. Each and every day comes with its own baggage, its own problems. Of course, some days are better than others. But we cannot let it throw us off and get slack.

We need to stay sharp, alert, watching and listening all the time.

Having His wisdom to address some of these things we are challenged with is such a blessing in and of itself.

How light things become when He shows us the plan.

Walking in His understanding through the wisdom He gives us will help us to prosper on a daily basis.

Proverbs 4:7 (NKJV) 7 Wisdom is the principal thing; Therefore get wisdom. And in all your getting, get understanding.

Bible Verse of The Day – 10-28-19

Romans 12:2 (NKJV) 2 And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.

So much of what we see, hear and read today is contrary to the word of God.

TV, movies, radio, websites, social media and so many other outlets are straying further and further from the truth of God’s word and accepting just about anything that anyone suggests, as long as it feels good or makes others feel accepted.

No matter what it is, no matter how ridiculous it might seem, we are told that it’s OK.

The vast majority of these things are blatantly in contrast to God’s word. Yet, even many people who profess to be followers of Christ are embracing them, accepting them, and even promoting them as truth.

We are no longer adhering to sound doctrine.

2 Timothy 4:3-4 (NKJV) 3 For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine, but according to their own desires, because they have itching ears, they will heap up for themselves teachers; 4 and they will turn their ears away from the truth, and be turned aside to fables.

People of God, we cannot continue to take this path! There needs to come an awakening and a change of direction!

It’s time to recognize right and wrong again, as God’s word has taught us.  And it’s time to stand for truth and righteousness again, even when it’s not popular.

It’s critical that we speak truth, in love, to bring light and accountability to this lost and dying world, to those who have lost their way and are wandering in darkness.

Romans 1:16-17 (NKJV) 16 For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ, for it is the power of God to salvation for everyone who believes, for the Jew first and also for the Greek. 17 For in it the righteousness of God is revealed from faith to faith; as it is written, “The just shall live by faith.”

You see, the enemy has chipped away at Biblical morals and the wisdom of God, causing even people who were once believers in sound doctrine to question the very foundation that their lives were built upon.

But God’s word says that we are without excuse. We cannot justify this by any means whatsoever; not political, not social, not anything.

God is God, and His word stands. It is truth that doesn’t change from one generation to the next. It does not bend to suit our desires or our changing ideologies. God’s truth is truth, no matter how many ways some might try to make it seem otherwise.

Malachi 3:6 (NKJV) 6 “For I am the Lord, I do not change…

Truth needs to prevail. But it can’t prevail if it isn’t made known. So, it’s up to us to make it known.

Why? Because the truth, when it’s accepted and embraced, sets people free.

John 8:32 (NKJV) 32 And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.”

This is not a political message. It is not a message of condemnation. It is a message of light, love and hope, that we will return to where God wants us to be.

We need to stay at our post, standing guard over the truth, and not backing down when the onslaught of the enemy comes in like a flood.

Please click to watch the video now.Greetings in the precious name of Jesus.

Our new video, The Oil and The Lamp, deals with the way we handle the “pull” of others on our lives.

Do people drain us with their needs and wants? When do we say yes and when do we say no to them?

We think this will shed some light on some things that will help a lot of people, so we hope you will take the time to watch it.

Bible Verse of The Day – 10-26-19

Proverbs 4:12 (NKJV) 12 When you walk, your steps will not be hindered, And when you run, you will not stumble.

There are times when we are asking God for an answer and He is saying nothing. Why?

His silence is sometimes the answer to our question. In other words, what He told us last hasn’t changed. Things still stand the same. He didn’t change anything, and He certainly doesn’t want us to change anything.

Whatever it is today that we are trying to figure out, the best thing we can do is to stop. Don’t give it another thought.

God will let us know if and when we need to change it, or if we need to do something differently. If we need to keep walking or keep running, then let’s keep going, no matter what we see in front of us. If we are obeying Him, we will not stumble.

When we follow His leading, He will let us know clearly when it’s our time to do something different. It won’t be a guessing game. It won’t be something we do out of presumption. It will be a knowing and a clear step of faith.

He is a good Father, and a very thorough One at that.

Let’s keep our head up and stay close to Him, and we will know our next move.

Proverbs 3:6 (NKJV) 6 In all your ways acknowledge Him, And He shall direct your paths.

Bible Verse of The Day – 10-25-19

Psalm 37:4 (NKJV) 4 Delight yourself also in the Lord, And He shall give you the desires of your heart.

We wrote a devotional recently based on James 4:14 (life is a vapor) and Ecclesiastes 1:14 (all is vanity and grasping for the wind). In it, we asked the question, “what is life?”.

In response, we had a reader write and ask if this contradicts the idea that life is a gift from God. So, we wanted to clarify this to avoid any kind of misunderstanding.

To answer the question directly, life is definitely a gift from God, no matter how we look at it.

But, to make sense of this and divide the gift from the vapor and the grasping for the wind, let’s break it down a bit further.

When we have the gift of life, given to us by God himself, the question comes down to what we do with it. Do we simply live it as though it is our own, with no accountability to our Creator? Or do we give it to Him and let Him direct our paths?

That right there will determine how we see life as a whole.

James spoke of life being like a vapor. A lifespan is short when compared to eternity. We are here and then gone in a very short time, just as a vapor that comes and goes very quickly.

Solomon spoke about how so much of the way we spend our lives is simply grasping for the wind. Life itself is not grasping for the wind. But the way we spend it can be.

Do we delight ourselves in the Lord, as mentioned in the verse above?

This verse in Proverbs sums it all up nicely:

Proverbs 3:6 (NKJV) 6 In all your ways acknowledge Him, And He shall direct your paths.

You see, if we delight ourselves in Him, and we acknowledge Him in all we do, our lives will never be like grasping for the wind. On the contrary, they will be blessed in so many ways. Psalm 37:4 says He will give us the desires of our heart.

Now that doesn’t sound like grasping for the wind, does it?

It’s all about perspective, and about the choices we make during our ever-so-short lives.

What will we choose? Will we choose to delight ourselves in Him? Will we acknowledge Him in all our ways?

The answers to those two questions will outweigh everything else about our lives.

Bible Verse of The Day – 10-24-19

Proverbs 19:20-21 (NKJV) 20 Listen to counsel and receive instruction, That you may be wise in your latter days. 21 There are many plans in a man’s heart, Nevertheless the Lord’s counsel—that will stand. God is our Rock and our comfort is found in Him and Him alone.

We all need God’s counsel. Our natural selves will wait until things are so overwhelming that we can’t bear it any longer. By then we are usually pretty much at the end of our rope, barely hanging on.

God wants us to get His counsel on a more regular basis. That we may be continually walking in His wisdom daily.

There will be many ways to figure things out; many possible paths to take and so many directions to chose from. But choosing God’s path will help us to stand and keep standing through thick and thin.

His comfort alone is enough to keep us staying at our post, taking our position and not giving up when trials come. Stand with our Rock, receive His continued counsel and walk in His wisdom daily. Amen.

Bible Verse of The Day – 10-23-19

2 Corinthians 1:3-4 (NKJV) 3 Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and God of all comfort, 4 who comforts us in all our tribulation, that we may be able to comfort those who are in any trouble, with the comfort with which we ourselves are comforted by God.

Where do we find comfort when we are facing tough situations?

Most of us find it in different places.

Many of us may find it in things around us that we can reach out for easily; a drink, a cigarette, drugs, food, or maybe even spending money.

We substitute those things for the comfort that God wants to give us.

In the verses above, God tells us plainly that He wants to be the One who comforts us. He wants us to go to Him when we’re troubled, handing our fears, concerns and stresses off to Him, so He can bear them for us.

The bad part about how many of us handle stress and trials is that the very things that we rely on for comfort are actually hurting us. These things can physically damage our bodies, the temple that God has given us. And if we don’t get a handle on them, they can actually affect our health adversely.

God not only wants us to go to Him for comfort, but He also wants us to be able to take what comforts us and hand it out to others who need it.

How will that work out for us if we are relying on things that are unhealthy? It wouldn’t make much sense for us to offer someone a drink (alcohol), drugs or food, would it?

We are all at different places in our walk with God. We are all growing at various rates. If we’re not growing, we need to be!

So, we can’t all be expected to be spiritual super-heroes. But as we pursue God, He will teach us how He wants us to grow and mature. And, if we follow His leading, before long we will find ourselves going to Him for comfort, instead of the earthly things that we have depended on for so long. Amen!

Bible Verse of The Day – 10-22-19

Matthew 21:22 (NKJV) 22 And whatever things you ask in prayer, believing, you will receive.

Do we feel like we are still waiting on our prayers to be answered?

I have learned that the best thing we can do when we pray, to show God that we believe, is to ask for what it is we need and then move on.

Don’t focus on it or keep holding onto it. Release it and move on.

Just the other day, I was so surprised! God reminded me of something I had prayed for many years ago. I had forgotten all about it. I guess that’s what we could call moving on.

But, despite me forgetting about praying for it, He delivered to me what I had prayed for, exactly to the tee. And then He reminded me that it was because I had asked for it. Oh, thank YOU, Father! He is so good! Amen.

We really need to learn to ask for the things we need and enjoy. Don’t be shy. We have a Papa that wants to fill us with His joy!

If we only knew how much He wants to bless our hearts with the desires that come from Him. things that we would love to see take place, we would be praying without ceasing.

1 Thessalonians 5:17 (NKJV) 17 pray without ceasing…

Not just for ourselves, but for the needs of others and the condition of this world. For our friends that we see struggling. Our family, our church, our work place, and our business, etc.

There is so much to pray about.

But, what stops us?

We do. The heaviness of the situation can stop us dead in our tracks. We don’t move forward until we see something change. But we have it all wrong.

We need to believe. And we do that by praying, and releasing it into His care. And then He works out the details.

Bible Verse of The Day – 10-21-19

John 1:12-13 (NKJV) 12 But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, to those who believe in His name: 13 who were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God.

I recently saw a post on social media that mentioned the atonement offered through the blood of Christ. As I read this post, I knew right away that something wasn’t quite right about it.

The post mentioned the fact that Jesus offered Himself to the Father, not to us. It then went on to mention that there are many people today who speak about the atonement as though it is something that needs to be accepted by people before it can be applied to their lives.

It did so in a mocking kind of way, as if everyone who believes that we need to take action to receive the “benefits” of Christ’s atonement (salvation) is wrong. And that because Christ died, there is no need for further action on our part.

As I said, I knew right away that there was something terribly wrong with this statement. So, I pondered on it and asked God about it. I wanted to know how to address this sort of untruth, using God’s word.

He immediately reminded me of the scripture above, specifically where it mentions that to those who receive Him, He gives the right to become children of God.

That one verse completely nullifies what was said by the author of that statement.

There is much misinformation being passed around today. The internet makes it very easy for people to say things and have them propagated, without them being carefully scrutinized first. And this is how lies get passed along, and accepted as truth.

This is a perfect example of why we need to spend time in God’s word, learning it and getting it embedded into our spirits. Doing so will allow us to spot error right away, making it easier to avoid being deceived by anything that’s not accurate.

2 Timothy 2:15 (NKJV) 15 Be diligent to present yourself approved to God, a worker who does not need to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.

God is faithful to speak to us. We just have to make sure we’re listening.
