Bible Verse of The Day – 7-31-13

Proverbs 4:7 (NKJV) Wisdom is the principal thing; Therefore get wisdom. And in all your getting, get understanding.

Wisdom and understanding.

These two things go hand in hand and, apparently, God deems them as being very important for us to have!

The verse above is one of my favorite in the book of Proverbs because it’s just so straight forward and direct.

God tells us to get wisdom. Why? Because if we have wisdom, we will also have understanding.

God’s wisdom isn’t necessarily the same as human logic, so we shouldn’t confuse the two. God’s wisdom comes from drawing near to Him, growing our relationship with Him and spending time in His word.

God’s wisdom might say right when human intellect says left, and sometimes our minds have a hard time grasping this.

But once we get God’s wisdom, we’ll never see things the same again.

Therefore, get wisdom!

Bible Verse of The Day – 7-30-13

(1 Corinthians 3:16 NKJV)  Do you not know that you are the temple of God and that the Spirit of God dwells in you?

The Spirit of God dwells in us!

To dwell in anything means:  to remain for a time, to live as a resident.

Taking care of our temple is a big part of being a Christian, a child of the most High God. It allows God to remain in us or reside there.

How we take care of our temple determines how much God can do in us and through us. This is where He dwells, not in a church building or any building. He dwells in nothing made by hands.

(Acts 17:24 NKJV)  “God, who made the world and everything in it, since He is Lord of heaven and earth, does not dwell in temples made with hands.

It is important to God that we care for ourselves. We need to eat right and exercise, get the rest we need and make sure we even share laughter to help us have a good, healthy, balanced life.

We can not mistreat our temples and expect to be able to do the things He may ask us to do. We have to be ready and alert. We have to be trained and disciplined in all areas. He wants a place to live that is clean and healthy.

Temptation, can come by way of food or drink, lack of exercise, use of bad language, lack of studying or reading God’s word, watching the wrong movies/television shows, listening to music that is demeaning or slanderous to God, or even hanging out with the wrong crowd, etc.

These are some of the ways we can be tempted, causing our temple… our body, soul and spirit to be involved in things that can take us off the path, or destroy our walk or call with God.

These very things can cause stumbling blocks to rise up in front of us, preventing us from becoming all that God wants us to be. They can cause our relationship with Him to be less than what it needs to be in order for us to hear God on a regular basis.

It’s not necessarily one thing more than another that can ruin it for us, but in all these areas we need to be careful. Anything that is not good for our temple, we should steer clear of and not allow the enemy to continue to tempt us into trying even just a little.

Keeping our temple clean is important to God and it should be very important to us as well. These may seem like little things that are not very noticeable to others, but it’s the little foxes that come and steal. (Song of Solomon 2:15 NKJV)  Catch us the foxes, The little foxes that spoil the vines, For our vines have tender grapes.

Bible Verse of The Day – 7-29-13

Philippians 4:6 (NKJV) Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God;

Anxiety. It’s something that a lot of people seem to struggle with these days. We live in a world full of things that can cause us to become anxious, stressed, worried or nervous.

But we are told in God’s word to be anxious for nothing! Anxiety is related to worrying. So what does the Bible say about worrying?

Matthew 6:27 (NKJV) Which of you by worrying can add one cubit to his stature?

So we need to know and understand that we are not to worry, even though human nature would have us worrying about everything!

Many of us might try to relate anxiety to something that happened to us in our past.

But this is not so much of a psychological problem as it is a spiritual problem. Without getting too deep about it, let us try to explain what this means. The enemy (satan) commands various types of demonic spirits. These different spirits have different tasks. Some cause diseases, some cause division, some cause fear, etc.

Anxiety is, many times, caused by a spirit of fear. Spirits of fear are not from God. They are from the devil, the enemy of our soul. So if it is not from God, we need to know that we don’t have to put up with it or live with it.

2 Timothy 1:7 (NKJV) For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind.

As believers, we have the authority to rebuke these spirits of fear and command them to leave us alone and never come back.

Luke 10:19 (NKJV) Behold, I give you the authority to trample on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy, and nothing shall by any means hurt you.

You can see in this verse that Jesus told us we have authority over all the power of the enemy. This includes spirits of fear, that cause us to worry or be anxious.

So the next time you start to become anxious, remind yourself that God has not given us a spirit of fear! Rebuke that spirit in the name of Jesus and tell it to leave you alone. And then set your mind on things above, not on things of this earth.

And then rest in God’s peace, knowing that He is on the throne and you are resting in His hands.

Bible Verse of The Day – 7-27-13

1 Peter 5:6-7 (NKJV) 6 Therefore humble yourselves under the mighty hand of God, that He may exalt you in due time, 7 casting all your care upon Him, for He cares for you.

God wants us to cast all our cares on Him.

This means that we are to take those things that concern us or make us worry and give them over to Him.. let Him have control.

So how do we do this? By doing what the first part of that scripture tells us: By humbling ourselves under His mighty hand.

Humbling ourselves isn’t always easy. In fact, it’s rarely easy, but it is a necessity if we want to learn to let God have control of those things that bother us.

If we try to hold onto our pride, we will want to try to figure everything out and fix everything ourselves.

Whereas, if we drop our pride and let God clothe us in humility, we will have no problems handing those difficult things over to God and not worrying about whether we were the one to come up with the solution or not.

Go ahead. Cast your cares. We dare you!

Bible Verse of The Day – 7-26-13

(Matthew 14:16-20 NKJV)  But Jesus said to them, “They do not need to go away. You give them something to eat.” {17} And they said to Him, “We have here only five loaves and two fish.” {18} He said, “Bring them here to Me.” {19} Then He commanded the multitudes to sit down on the grass. And He took the five loaves and the two fish, and looking up to heaven, He blessed and broke and gave the loaves to the disciples; and the disciples gave to the multitudes. {20} So they all ate and were filled, and they took up twelve baskets full of the fragments that remained.

Jesus shows us how it’s done, by simply using what they had to work with. He knew that five loaves and two fish couldn’t possibly feed all five thousand-plus people. There had to be a miracle take place. But, the miracle did not happen until He took what they had, blessed it, broke it and gave it.

There are many people today that cannot feed their family. They can’t pay their bills. They can’t get clothes for their children. There are ministries that can’t do all that they feel led to do for the lack of finances.

The question is, are we letting God bless what we have to work with? Are we then doing what He wants us to do with it? Are we breaking it up accordingly and giving it the way He wants us to give it?

What do we want today? Are we looking for a miracle?

We need to work with what we have. Don’t wait till we “have enough”, to do what God is asking us to do.

God will multiply as we obey Him, as we trust Him, and follow Him. Amen

Bible Verse of The Day – 7-25-13

James 4:13-14 (NKJV) 13 Come now, you who say, “Today or tomorrow we will go to such and such a city, spend a year there, buy and sell, and make a profit”; 14 whereas you do not know what will happen tomorrow. For what is your life? It is even a vapor that appears for a little time and then vanishes away.

This is a topic that we touch on fairly frequently.

It’s so very important that each and every one of us, regardless of our age, has a good understanding of this truth.

Not a single one of us is promised a tomorrow. It’s imperative that we live our lives as though today is our last day. This is not morbid or odd. It’s just good sense.

We need to love those around us with all that is in us. We need to look at each and every day with a passion that so many of us lack.

We need to love God with all our hearts, shining His light wherever we go.

And at the top of our list of priorities should be this: make amends with those who we are at odds with, if at all possible. There are some who will choose not to reconcile with you. But we need to be sure we have made an honest effort to lay all differences aside and repair those broken relationships.

Remember… our lives are but a vapor that appears for a little time and then vanishes away.

Let’s make the most out of ours!

Bible Verse of The Day – 7-24-13

(Deuteronomy 6:5 NKJV)  “You shall love the LORD your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your strength.

It is not hard to love God, for He loves us so much. What’s hard is showing Him how much we love Him.

If we can learn to follow His commandments throughout our daily lives, this will show Him how much we truly love Him.

Following God’s word will cause us to look different in the eyes of others. We will stand out at times. Sometimes people will get upset with us, even though we never did a thing to them. Other times, loving God will cause us to take a stand in certain situations, causing us to walk alone. We can’t let this distract us.

If we want to be popular among people and be well-liked, then this walk will be a struggle. Loving God with all our heart and soul will make it uncomfortable for certain people to be around us at times; close friends, family members, co-workers, etc.

Remember… we are not alone when we take a stand and love God with all our hearts. We are alone if we love people and what they think of us more than we love God.

(John 14:15 NKJV)  “If you love Me, keep My commandments.

Bible Verse of The Day – 7-23-13

Matthew 18:18 (NKJV) “Assuredly, I say to you, whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven.

As believers… followers of Christ, we have been given spiritual authority here on earth.

We have the ability to bind (to arrest) and the ability to loose (to set free). This is not a small matter or something to be taken lightly.

Sadly, the vast majority of the church, Christ’s body, knows little or nothing about this. Many people have been convinced that spiritual gifts no longer exist, therefore anything related to deliverance from demonic spirits or anything remotely related to the moving of the Holy Spirit in our lives is non-existent.

But Jesus told us that what we loose on earth will be loosed in heaven (meaning, in the spiritual realm) and what we bind on earth will be bound in heaven. And we need to take this seriously!

So as we go through each day, if we let God sharpen our discernment, He will show us where demonic influences are in operation, and we will be able to bind those spirits and loose God’s freedom, His Joy, His peace, etc.

Church, we seriously need to get this. In the times we’re living in, it is not optional. It’s a necessity!

So ask God to open your eyes to these things and give you razor-sharp discernment to know when to bind and when to loose something or someone. He is faithful to give us what we need.

Bible Verse of The Day – 7-22-13

(John 5:18 NKJV)  Therefore the Jews sought all the more to kill Him, because He not only broke the Sabbath, but also said that God was His Father, making Himself equal with God.

Jesus and God are considered equal, the SAME; they are ONE!

This is the difference between heaven and hell, right here. If we can accept this truth, this is our way into Heaven. We have to believe that Jesus is who He says He is, the Son of God, and that they are equal. If we look at Jesus as being any less than God in the flesh, then we truly don’t understand.

(John 14:6 NKJV)  Jesus said to him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me. We cannot get to God unless we go through His Son, Jesus Christ.

We can live the life of doing all wonderful and good things for people but as hard as it is to swallow, we must know that this will not get us into Heaven.

If we are asking God for things but not going through His Son, He can not hear us. It is His Son that makes the way for communication between us and God. It is His blood, His pureness that can reach and touch the heart and ears of the Father.

This is very to the point and some may not understand at first because of all the different teachings and denominations out there.

If we take all we have been taught and surrender ourselves and our understanding to God, in the name of Jesus Christ His Son, His equal, He will bring understanding and wisdom to help us grasp such truth, regardless of what we might have been taught previously.

(1 John 5:12 NKJV)  He who has the Son has life; he who does not have the Son of God does not have life.

Get life today, through the Son, Jesus Christ!!

Bible Verse of The Day – 7-20-13

(Psalm 119:103 NKJV) How sweet are Your words to my taste, Sweeter than honey to my mouth!

David is comparing God’s words to honey and he is saying it is sweeter than HONEY!!

Do you know how good honey tastes? Oh… it is so good. but God’s Word is even better!! His Words are always there for us. We just have to seek Him and listen.

God may be portrayed to us differently, depending on each individual speaker, pastor, priest etc., but we can find God ourselves by reading His Word and listening to His voice. He will lead us, guide us and teach us His statutes.

If we think of God being this strict and harsh Father, then we really need to spend some one-on-one time with Him. He will show us how much He cares about us and loves us.

We shouldn’t cringe when we are asking God for an answer to something; we should run to Him and embrace Him, knowing that His words are sweeter than honey to our mouth.

We challenge you today to go after God and get His words for you and your situation.

Bible Verse of The Day – 7-19-13

James 4:3 (NKJV) You ask and do not receive, because you ask amiss, that you may spend it on your pleasures.

We all ask God for something.

We have wants, needs and desires that we bring before Him. Sometimes we get exactly what we asked for. Other times we get something close to what we asked for. And yet, other times we don’t get anything. In fact, sometimes we wonder if God is even hearing us at all.

Sometimes there is no clear-cut explanation for this. We wonder why we’re not getting what we asked for. We wait. We pray some more. But still no answer.

Many times when we ask God for something, we ask with a motive. Human nature can be very slick, and sometimes we ask for something under the guise of “using it for the kingdom of God”. But in reality, we have selfish motivations.

We should be thankful that God sees our motives for what they are! Despite the fact that we get our feelings hurt when we don’t get what we want, it’s usually a good thing when God sees fit not to answer our selfish requests. It’s for our own good.

If we all take a look back on our lives, it would be pretty safe to say that every single one of us can recall times when we got something we wanted, only to find out later on that it ultimately hurt us instead of helping us.

So if we’re not getting what we’re asking God for, let’s be honest and ask Him to show us if maybe we’re asking amiss. The truth can hurt sometimes, but it’s the truth that sets us free.
