Bible Verse of The Day – 12-31-12

(Proverbs 16:18 NKJV)  Pride goes before destruction, And a haughty spirit before a fall.

Pride… we’re all guilty of it in one way or another at different times in our lives.

Sometimes pride is very obvious. Other times it can be subtle and hard to spot, whether in others or in ourselves.

Subtle pride in ourselves is the most dangerous kind because it can hide itself very well, leading us to think we’re not proud or haughty at all.

God has dealt with me to a very large degree about pride during the last several months. He has shown me areas of my life where pride had crept in and caused me to become haughty, mostly in subtle ways. But it was having a big effect on my life.

Let’s just say God gave me an attitude adjustment. I needed it!

I have no problem admitting this because I know that we all battle with this problem, even when we think we don’t. Maybe me admitting it to others will help others to see it in themselves.

Ask God today about pride in yourself. Ask Him to show you where you’re proud or haughty. He won’t hesitate to do so if you really mean it when you ask Him!

Let God remove your pride before it hurts you or those around you.

Bible Verse of The Day – 12-29-12

(Proverbs 29:11 NKJV)  A fool vents all his feelings, But a wise man holds them back.

As the world and society have become wise in their own eyes, we hear more and more about how they believe it is healthy for us to constantly express ourselves and “vent” our feelings to everyone.

We are constantly told that it’s healthy to tell people what we feel. And there are instances where this is very true.

But wisdom will teach us that there is a time to speak our mind and a time to hold our tongue. The tough part for us is in knowing when to speak and when not to.

God wants to give us the wisdom needed to know the difference. This will be easier for some people and more difficult for others. I know that for me, I have a tendency to voice my opinions very easily, but God has taught me over the years this isn’t always a good thing!

So when you feel your emotions rising up inside of you and you want to start venting to everyone you see, stop and listen. Let God speak to you and give you wisdom. Let Him tell you whether to speak or to be silent.

God is faithful to teach us. We just need to let Him.

Bible Verse of The Day – 12-28-12

(Proverbs 8:17 NKJV)  I love those who love me, And those who seek me diligently will find me.

How do we show the Lord we love Him?

One way to show Him that we love Him is by knowing His word and abiding in it. (John 14:15 NKJV)  “If you love Me, keep My commandments“. Take one day at a time and apply it to your everyday life.

When we sin, we shouldn’t just overlook it, but we should take the time we need to acknowledge it and do whatever His word tells us to do to make it right.

We know we need to repent if we want to receive His forgiveness, but we must also learn how not to fall into that sin again. His word will help us in this.

Each day that we follow Him through the leading of His word, we will learn to love Him even more.

Seek Him diligently today. He is much more interesting than Facebook, movies, music, video games, work or shopping.

His love is long-lasting and real.

Bible Verse of The Day – 12-27-12

(Exodus 14:21 NKJV)  Then Moses stretched out his hand over the sea; and the LORD caused the sea to go back by a strong east wind all that night, and made the sea into dry land, and the waters were divided.

God led the Israelites to the shore of the Red Sea. The Egyptians were in hot pursuit. There was nowhere to run or hide as they faced the sea.

God instructed Moses to stretch his hand out over the sea. So Moses did this and then God began to move.

Take notice that God caused the waters of the Red Sea to part, to divide, but it didn’t happen instantly. It took all night long!

The Israelites had to wait there on the shore of the sea all night, while God caused a strong east wind to blow and divide the waters.

What about us? Are any of us feeling like our backs are against the wall right now? Are we standing on the shore waiting for God to part the sea?

Take heart! Know that God will move on our behalf, but it almost never happens when we think it should!

We all need to trust in Him alone. We need to stop trying to make sense of every little thing that happens and stop trying to figure it all out! All of these things will cause us to question God and bring doubt and fear into our lives. Neither of these is from God, but from our enemy, the devil.

Let’s dig down deep and let God test our faith, and see what we’re really made of! It may not always be comfortable, but it is the best thing for us!

Bible Verse of The Day – 12-26-12

(Proverbs 8:32 NKJV)  “Now therefore, listen to me, my children, For blessed are those who keep my ways.

As we follow God and His plan for our life, listen to His commandments and walk them out daily wherever we may go, we shall be blessed!

There are times when we may have to take a stand and it can cause a little bit of friction. But when we do as God commands us, in love and in His wisdom, we shall be blessed despite what it feels like or looks like on the surface.

Stick with God and His plan and walk in His blessings for you!!

Bible Verse of The Day – 12-25-12

(Isaiah 9:6 NKJV)  For unto us a Child is born, Unto us a Son is given; And the government will be upon His shoulder. And His name will be called Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.

We’re not ones to get caught up in tradition or giving traditional messages on specific holidays, but this group of verses has been in the forefront of my mind today.

Although we don’t know the exact date that Jesus the Messiah was born here on earth, we do know that He was born and walked the earth among us for a little over three decades.

This birth was the most significant event in the history of mankind.

As we celebrate Christmas, we are not celebrating the gifts that we give or receive. We’re not celebrating the gifts that were laid at the feet of the newborn King over 2000 years ago. We’re not celebrating the star that lead people to where the Messiah was born.

We are celebrating the ultimate gift… the gift of salvation being offered to every human being, through Jesus. We are celebrating the arrival of God here on earth, in human form, coming to live among us and then die for us on a cruel, torturous Roman cross.

We encourage you today to spend time with your friends and family, celebrating. We encourage you to enjoy this day… to relax and have fun. But most of all, know that you have been given the biggest gift you will ever receive in your lifetime; the love of God offered to you in the form of the ultimate sacrifice.

If you have received that gift of salvation, thank Him for it. If you haven’t made that choice, do it right now. And thank Him for it. You’ll never receive a gift like it again in your life.

Merry Christmas. We love each and every one of you from the bottom of our hearts.

Bible Verse of The Day – 12-24-12

(Revelation 3:20 NKJV)  “Behold, I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears My voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and dine with him, and he with Me.

The days go by so fast it’s hard to even remember what day we are on at times.

We’re always trying to make sure we get everything done that we need to do in a single day, knowing that if we don’t finish it all it just gets piled onto tomorrow’s load. Enough already!

We need more time. As some like to say, “I need more hours in a day”. Well, we know that the hours in a day will never be changed. It’s not happening.

However, by cutting things out of our daily schedule we can make more time. Even if it is little things, those little things add up. Get rid of the unnecessary things, or get help with the things you do.

Sometimes simply asking others to help you out in certain areas, so the load isn’t all on you, can make a big difference, leaving you with more time.

God is knocking on your day today and saying “come and dine with me. Make time so we can have a relationship.”

Bible Verse of The Day – 12-22-12

(Philippians 4:6-7 NKJV)  Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; {7} and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.

God’s peace can never be explained away. It’s something that can’t be understood by the human mind.

Having the peace of God doesn’t come naturally. As human beings, we always like to know everything… to have it all figured out. Moving with God will sometimes (many times) mean that we don’t know what tomorrow will bring.

This tends to mess with our heads and cause us to question God if we look at things through human eyes.

But once we begin to get God’s heart and start to see things through His eyes, everything starts to look a whole lot different. As we begin to trust Him more, we also have more peace.

This is the peace that passes understanding. This is the peace that we can have when it seems like the world is crashing down around us. And this is the peace we can have when everyone is looking at us and wondering how we can be so calm when everything looks like it’s falling apart.

Know God. Know His Peace.

Bible Verse of The Day – 12-21-12

(Mark 10:7-9 NKJV)  ‘For this reason a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, {8} ‘and the two shall become one flesh’; so then they are no longer two, but one flesh.

Becoming one with our spouse is what God has intended for a marriage. He does not want the husband and wife in disagreement or apart in any way.

One of the things that we have settled on as a couple is that if we don’t agree on something, we don’t do it.

We have learned in our 29+ years of marriage that this works great for us. We simply wait until we come together in agreement on whether to do something or not to do it. Either way, we have to be together.

There have been many times we have discussed something, and one of us says “I’m not sure. I’m feeling uncomfortable with that”. When that happens, we will not make a move in that direction. We don’t get mad at each other for voicing our opinion or expressing how we feel. We just know we need to wait.

We need to be together as one, we should not pull away from each other when we don’t agree on something but, rather, listen to the other’s concern.

This has saved us from making some really bad decisions in our lives.

Bible Verse of The Day – 12-20-12

(Proverbs 2:7-8 NKJV)  He stores up sound wisdom for the upright; He is a shield to those who walk uprightly; {8} He guards the paths of justice, And preserves the way of His saints.

God is our protection, and our shield. Don’t be afraid…but stand strong in His wisdom and His might!

Know that our God can handle anything that tries to take us out or take us down.

Stay close to Him.

Bible Verse of The Day – 12-19-12

(1 Cor 13:12 NKJV)  For now we see in a mirror, dimly, but then face to face. Now I know in part, but then I shall know just as I also am known.

We see in a mirror, dimly. We know in part.

There are a lot of things that we don’t know and don’t have answers to. There are so many questions that we’d like to ask God and have perfect answers for. There are many things that we may not understand.

But it’s OK if we don’t always have answers to all of our questions. There are some things that we may never understand. And there are other things that we just plain don’t need to know, even though we might think we deserve answers.

God is just. He is righteous, holy and true. He knows everything and He knows what we should know and what we shouldn’t know. He knows what is good for us, even when we think we know better.

Sometimes we run into situations and they just don’t seem to make sense to us. We don’t understand how something can be the way it is. But it’s alright if we don’t always understand. We’re not meant to have all the answers.

And anyone who always has an answer for every question that comes their way should not be trusted. It’s OK to tell someone “I don’t know”. It’s better to be honest and humble than to lie and be proud.

Being OK with not always having an answer is a good sign of our faith that God has it all under control. Because one day we will see Him face to face and all things will be known.

Until then we just need to trust Him.
