Bible Verse of The Day – 5-31-23

Hebrews 12:28-29 (NKJV) 28 Therefore, since we are receiving a kingdom which cannot be shaken, let us have grace, by which we may serve God acceptably with reverence and godly fear. 29 For our God is a consuming fire.

Fear God.

How often do we hear people speak about this in a way that doesn’t water it down?

A few years ago, I had shared one of our devotionals on Facebook. That devotional touched on the topic of fearing God.

Someone I knew said he enjoyed the devotional, but he thought that the words, “fearing God”, should have been replaced with the words, “loving God”.

And his comment proved my point that very few people truly comprehend how important it is that we understand what the Bible means when it says we are to fear God.

Fearing God doesn’t mean that we walk around afraid that God is going to strike us down at any given moment.

The Bible calls us to walk in a reverent fear of our Creator, understanding His sovereignty and His power.

Verse 28, above, says that we should “serve God acceptably with reverence and godly fear”.

Then, verse 29 goes on to say that “our God is a consuming fire”.

There are many verses throughout the word of God that mention “the terror of God”, or “the terror of the Lord”.

This sounds more like genuine fear than mushy love.

You see, we are to love God. But that love should not replace our fear (absolute reverence) of Him.

For when we lose our fear of Him and begin treating Him with less reverence and respect than He is due, we are surely not looking at Him for who He really is.

And that is a path that leads to disaster.

Let us serve God acceptably with reverence and godly fear. For our God is a consuming fire.

Bible Verse of The Day – 5-30-23

1 Thessalonians 5:16-18 (NKJV) 16 Rejoice always, 17 pray without ceasing, 18 in everything give thanks; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.

Why do we have to rejoice, pray, and give thanks? Because it is the will of God for us.

These are the things we must do to build up our relationship in God.

We often get asked the question, “how do we know what God is saying?”. And we always answer by saying, “get close to Him”.

How do we get close?

Knowing what scripture tells us to do, and then obeying it, will definitely get His attention.

He will draw near to us as we draw near to Him.

He will be so near to us that we will instantly be convicted when we are about to make a wrong move.

What a beautiful life!

He will show us in advance if we are about to do something wrong or if someone is about to take us out or cause us harm.

And by obeying what God shows us to do regarding it, we will avoid the situation and keep on moving forward. Wow!

It doesn’t come easy. We have to make an effort to get close to God to achieve such discernment.

By listening to His word and doing it, we will surely grow closer.

Start here by rejoicing, praying and giving thanks from our hearts, and we are on our way to a closer walk with Him.

Bible Verse of The Day – 5-29-23

James 4:7-8 (NKJV) 7 Therefore submit to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you.

I recently watched a short video of a woman who was talking about people who struggle for long periods of time with specific sins.

In her video, she compared this with crucifixions. Her analogy described the long, torturous death of crucifixion with the long struggle of breaking free from a specific sin that has been hard to shake.

As part of her analogy, she used the example of someone who is married but struggles for a long time to stop desiring others after they are married.

While I understand her analogy, I disagree with it vehemently.

Here’s why.

Long struggles with a specific sin are almost always the result of us not completely submitting to God.

I know. Some who are reading this are disagreeing with me right now.

They are saying, “but you don’t know how hard it can be sometimes to shake certain things”.

And here is my response to that.

We wrestle with sin at length because we do not wholly submit to God. Not submitting to God makes it hard for us to resist the sin.

The word of God is plain and clear; Submit to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from us.

This may seem oversimplified. But it is not.

It is 100% true, accurate and effective counsel.

Sin that plagues us for long periods of time can only do so if we fail to take ALL steps necessary to defeat it.

Some may think that this is alluding to many steps; a long, painful process of breaking free and claiming victory.

But it’s not.

The road to get there can be very long and painful for many. But this is not due to God’s weakness or lack of sovereignty.

It is due to our own weakness and our own unwillingness to RESIST the devil.

Resisting the devil doesn’t require a specific program. It does not require someone to lay hands on us and pray for us. It does not require us to confess our sin to someone else for moral support.

Those things may help. But until we passionately decide within ourselves that we are done with that sin, and we commit fully to defeating it, it will continue to hound us and plague us.

Two words are the key; submit, resist.

We need to humbly submit ourselves to God, our Creator and Redeemer, admitting that we can’t do it on our own.

And we need to ask and allow God to help us resist the devil when he comes to lure us into another snare.

It is only when we do this that we will end the struggle that swallows so many of us up as we try again and again to overcome long term sin.

Submit. Resist. Defeat Sin.

Bible Verse of The Day – 5-27-23

Hebrews 11:6 (NKJV) 6 But without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him.

One morning in my quiet time with the Lord, I said, “Lord I just want to please You”. And I got a quick response back from Him.

“You please me when I ask you to do something. And even though you don’t know why, or even understand it, you do it anyways by faith. It brings me great pleasure when you obey”.

What did Jesus’ Mother say to the servants at the wedding?

She said, “do whatever He tells you to do”.

John 2:5 (NKJV) 5 His mother said to the servants, “Whatever He says to you, do it.”

We don’t do it doubtfully. We don’t do it wondering if it will work. We don’t even give a thought as to how it may turn out.

No.

We just do our part by faith, and He will complete the rest.

Are you asking God how you can please Him today?

Whatever He tells you to do, do it! Amen.

Bible Verse of The Day – 5-26-23

Ephesians 2:1 (NKJV) 1 And you He made alive, who were dead in trespasses and sins,

This is such an incredible statement; “you He made alive, who were dead in trespasses and sins”.

The enormity of what is being said there is way too easy for us to skim right over and miss.

You He made alive.

Who?

Us; those who were dead in trespasses and sins.

Ponder on that for a moment or two. Think of the gravity of that statement.

We were dead under the weight and consequences of our own sins.

Dead.

Not alive. But dead. Not living.

Merely existing, but without life inside of us.

We were hollow, empty shells.

But God breathed life into our spirit when we embraced Christ and the sacrifice He made for us.

And we became alive. Alive in Christ!

It was then that our life began. It was then that we were born of the spirit, not of the flesh or human desire.

John 1:12-13 (NKJV) 12 But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, to those who believe in His name: 13 who were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God.

And because of that that we now live, made alive despite our trespasses and sins!

Amen. Thank you, Father, for new life in Christ!

Bible Verse of The Day – 5-25-23

Matthew 1:23 (NKJV) 23 “Behold, the virgin shall be with child, and bear a Son, and they shall call His name Immanuel,” which is translated, “God with us.”

A virgin shall be with child…meditate on that one part of the verse for a moment.

Do you find everything in you saying, “Wow!”?

Can we even try to comprehend it with our minds? My head hurts when I think of this.

Even the little that we can comprehend shows us how incredibly mighty our Creator is.

He took a virgin and caused her to conceive a child by the Holy Spirit. Simply miraculous!

I get touched by this every time I read it.

God had a plan to save us, to be with us and to help us have eternal life with Him. He wants us to be with Him forever.

If you are feeling lonely, unloved, uncared for, abused, hurt, angry and like no one cares, this is going to help you if you will let it!

It’s so deep, but yet so simple. His plan was to save each one of us. Why? Because of His love toward us.

Immanuel, God with us!

God in the flesh, Jesus Christ, Savior of this world!

Praise Him today with everything in us. He is worthy.

Bible Verse of The Day – 5-24-23

Matthew 10:33 (NKJV) 33 But whoever denies Me before men, him I will also deny before My Father who is in heaven.

We recently received a text message from an unidentified person whose text message said only this: “I Don’t acknowledge you Jesus Christ”.

That text message saddened me, and it got me pondering on some things.

As I was pondering on it over the course of several days, here is what the Holy Spirit told me in a matter of just a few seconds yesterday.

We can deny Jesus, but that will never undo what He did for us.

His sacrifice still stands. And His blood that was shed will be no less powerful because of our denial.

The only loss suffered because of our denial is our own. We gain nothing and lose everything by denying the One who died for us.

We can deny Him, but God’s love for humanity will not be changed.

Why?

Because in Him there is no darkness. There is only light and truth. There is no danger of Him changing who He is. He never changes.

And although He may occasionally chasten His people, His love remains steadfast. And it’s because of His love that He does discipline us.

That discipline proves His love for us.

So, it behooves us to be careful of what we say, not letting our emotions overtake us and cause us to say something that we later wish we hadn’t said.

And remember what Jesus said; “whoever denies Me before men, him I will also deny before My Father”.

This alone should be enough to keep us from denying Him. And if we have denied Him in a moment of anger or frustration, the best thing we can do is to immediately repent and sincerely ask God for His forgiveness.

Because He is steadfast, He will be faithful to do so.

Bible Verse of The Day – 5-23-23

1 Corinthians 7:3 (NKJV) 3 Let the husband render to his wife the affection due her, and likewise also the wife to her husband.

It’s so important to be affectionate with your spouse.

So many things can get in the way and cause us to neglect this area of our marriage if we’re not careful. But the consequences of neglecting this can be huge if we don’t get it under control.

As a couple, we need to make sure we are communicating when we need each other. Don’t put it off or wait for them to “KNOW” what we need.

Ask them to make time for us. Tell them exactly how we feel and what we need, when we need it.

If we wait or put it off, maybe because we think we are being silly or a bother to them, our spouse will never know. And this can cause us to grow angry and bitter towards them.

It can be very damaging.

Couples, keep your relationship strong and intimate no matter what you may be going through right now.

We will have busy seasons in our marriage. Those are the times we need each other the most. We need to stop our spouse in their tracks, sit them down and be affectionate with one another.

This does not rest just on the shoulders of one of you. It’s for both to work at.

It’s crucial that we pay attention to our spouse, or we can cause our own marital issues down the road. These are often issues that can destroy a love that was once very strong and intimate.

It’s never too late. You don’t get out of it that easy.

Instead of running away from each other and ending the marriage, run to each other and do your spousal duty by being affectionate!

That will close the gap on anything that may try to creep in and destroy your marriage.

Bible Verse of The Day – 5-22-23

John 3:16 (NKJV) 16 For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.

For God So Loved the World.

These are undoubtedly some of the best-known words from the entirety of the word of God!

They are well-known for good reason, since they point people to the fact that God’s love was so great that He made a way for every human being who embraces Christ as their savior to have eternal life.

This runs even deeper than that, though. Understanding this can bring even more meaning to this verse.

You see, no matter how messed up the world has become,

No matter how badly we have gotten off track,

No matter what may be coming against us,

No matter the level of spiritual warfare we are mired in, making us feel like we can never possibly win,

God so loved the world.

His love is enough to overcome anything we’re facing.

That love caused Him to send His Son to die in our place, to pay the price for our sins; yours and mine alike.

Never forget or make light of this fact.

Never let the darkness overshadow this reality.

God’s love for you and me is more than any of us can ever fully comprehend.

And that same love will carry us through every storm that we face in life.

So, remember these words; God So Loved the World.

Amen
