Bible Verse of The Day – 10-31-16

Hebrews 4:12 (NKJV) 12 For the word of God is living and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit, and of joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.

The word of God can help us in our daily walk. It is alive!

As we read God’s word, He will direct our steps and show us what to do and what not to do at different times.

The word of God is sharper than any two – edged sword. Now that’s pretty sharp!

But it has to be. It has to reach those areas in us. And sometimes it needs to go deep to get our attention. It has to reach those places that are hidden, that if not removed completely can cause us to backslide or fall at times.

The word of God is a discerner of thoughts and intents of the heart. God knows us better than we will ever know ourselves. We can be sure of this.

He can change those things in us that we dislike and that don’t bring honor to Him; those things that get us in trouble. But only if we let Him shine a light on those areas. He will show us how to get free and stay free.

God’s WORD is what we need every day. Just a little will go a long way.

Take His word to heart and let it live through us! Amen.

Bible Verse of The Day – 10-29-16

Ephesians 4:31 (NKJV) 31 Let all bitterness, wrath, anger, clamor, and evil speaking be put away from you, with all malice.

Everyone reading this has been hurt by someone at some point. For some of you it may have been very recently.

Everyone reading this has been used or abused by someone. Maybe it was in your distant past or maybe it was yesterday. It might have even been today.

And this is something that most of us deal with or have dealt with on one level or another. None of us are unique in this aspect.

The question that you and I have to answer is this: What will you do with it?

We have two options. We can hold on to it. We can be angry. We can become bitter and miserable.

Or we can forgive them, trust God to work it out and move on with our lives.

Bitterness is like an infection. It starts out small, with a seemingly small effect on us. And then it can spread, poisoning our entire being and killing us from the inside, out. It’s silent and it’s deadly.

But it can be treated! How? By letting God show us how to let go of those things that we were hurt by and give them to Him. And then trusting and obeying Him and doing what He tells us to do, even if we might not like it.

Rooting out bitterness can take time, especially if it’s been there for a long time. But the length of time it takes for it to be removed is really up to us and how willing we are to let go of it.

No, it’s not always easy, but God gives us everything we need to make it as easy as it can be.

Bible Verse of The Day – 10-28-16

Habakkuk 2:4(NKJV) 4 “Behold the proud, His soul is not upright in him; But the just shall live by his faith.

The proud are those who can never take no for an answer. The proud are those who think they can take care of themselves. The proud are those who see themselves sinking, but will not ask for help or take the steps toward making things right. The proud refuse help from God, because of their very own hearts.

They cannot blame it on anyone but themselves. Pride comes from within.

We don’t want to be the proud. We want to be the just.

The just will humble themselves and ask for help. The just will acknowledge that they have weaknesses and are willing to take one day at a time and work on them with the help that God provides.

The just are those who believe in Jesus Christ as the Son of the Almighty God. And their salvation, strength, understanding, wisdom and provision come from Him alone. The just will learn to take no for an answer and wait on the promise of God to come forth.

Who are we today? Are we the proud or are we the JUST? If we are the just then we need to walk in faith and stop trying to do everything ourselves.

We need to obey what God is saying to our hearts, no matter what things look like in front of us, and move forward in what He is saying to do.

Noah had to have faith in what God said to him in order to build the ark. Moses had to have faith in God to lead the Israelites out of bondage and captivity. Mary had to have faith in God to give birth to our Messiah despite being a virgin. Peter had to have faith in order to walk on water. There are so many things that happened in God’s word when the JUST obeyed God’s word and lived by faith.

We don’t just visit faith. We, His children, LIVE by faith, move in faith and breathe in faith.

What is God speaking to us today? Our steps taken in faith and obedience will get us there.

Bible Verse of The Day – 10-27-16

2 Corinthians 5:21 (NKJV) 21 For He made Him who knew no sin to be sin for us, that we might become the righteousness of God in Him.

We become the righteousness of God in Him.

That’s a pretty heavy statement. It embodies a lot more than the words on a page can even begin to imply. Let’s take a closer look.

First, what is righteousness? What does it mean to be righteous?

Webster’s dictionary defines it this way:

righteous: acting in accord with divine or moral law: free from guilt or sin

Take note of the last part of that definition, free from guilt or sin. Now that’s a big deal right there.

Neither you nor I can ever be free from guilt or sin on our own power or by our own will. It’s impossible. But, by the blood of Jesus, we are made righteous when we put our faith in Him.

It’s so very simple, yet so very complicated at the same time. And though our heads can grasp it (a little), we will never be able to fully understand or comprehend it. Despite that, though, just know that through the obedience and sacrifice of Jesus, a way was made for us to be washed clean from our sins.

How? By putting our faith in that very One, Jesus, and the gift that He offers us: Salvation.

So know that no matter who you are or what you might have done in your past, if you have put your faith and trust in Jesus and the sacrifice that He made, you have been made righteous in Him.

By the blood of Jesus, you are pure and spotless in God’s eyes!

Romans 5:19 (NKJV) 19 For as by one man’s disobedience many were made sinners, so also by one Man’s obedience many will be made righteous.

Bible Verse of The Day – 10-26-16

Genesis 37:10-11 So he told it to his father and his brothers; and his father rebuked him and said to him, “What is this dream that you have dreamed? Shall your mother and I and your brothers indeed come to bow down to the earth before you?” 11 And his brothers envied him, but his father kept the matter in mind.

There will be times when people won’t understand what God is trying to show us or do for us.

When Joseph shared his dream with his family, he did not get a very good reaction from them. They reacted by rebuking and envying him, which is not what anyone wants to hear, see or go through.

Have we ever been excited about what God did or was doing for us, and in that moment of excitement we ran and shared it with others? But in return they did not react the way we thought they would. The very ones that we cared deeply about, those we thought would understand and be happy for us got angry, jealous and pulled away from us instead.

Don’t let the reactions of others discourage us, stop us or cause us to look differently at what God wants to do in our life. Don’t let them make us feel awful on the inside. Instead, be even more determined to go after God and His plan.

When God wants to do something in us, whether changing our hearts to be more kind, loving, or considerate, or whether He is opening doors for us to get another position in a company or leading us down a road to do things maybe a little different than the norm, it’s a GOOD thing. Don’t let anyone talk us out of it by the way they may make us feel through their reactions toward it. Let Him complete His good work in us!!

Philippians 1:6 (NKJV)6 being confident of this very thing, that He who has begun a good work in you will complete it until the day of Jesus Christ;

Bible Verse of The Day – 10-25-16

Mark 15:38 (NKJV) 38 Then the veil of the temple was torn in two from top to bottom.

As Jesus took His last breath and died, there were many things that happened all at once.

The Bible says that the earth shook, the skies were darkened and rocks were split. But there was one other very significant thing that took place at that same moment; The veil of the temple was torn in two, from top to bottom.

Why was that so significant? Let’s take a look and see.

The veil of the temple was used to separate God’s presence from man. The only people who were allowed to enter into the holy of holies were the priests. Every so often, a priest would go through a series of cleansing rituals to make him clean.

After going through those rituals, the priest would approach God inside of the holy of holies. If he had prepared properly, he would do what needed to be done and make his way back out. But if something had been missed, and he was unclean, he would die and have to be pulled out by a rope that was tied around his waist!

But when Jesus died and the veil of the temple was torn in two, it meant that God was now accessible to us! We no longer need priests to go to God for us. In fact, not only can we approach God directly, but we can approach Him boldly!

Hebrews 4:16 (NKJV) 16 Let us therefore come boldly to the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need.

We are no longer isolated from God. We have direct access to Him through Jesus. And we can go to Him at any time, even approaching Him boldly.

So take your needs to Him today. Don’t depend on someone else to do it for you. Talk to Him. Listen to Him. And most of all, trust Him and obey Him!

Bible Verse of The Day – 10-24-16

Hebrews 6:14 (NKJV) 14 saying, “Surely blessing I will bless you, and multiplying I will multiply you.”

This is God’s promise to Abraham, that He would bless him and multiply him.

Has God spoken to our hearts and told us what He would like to do with us and for us? Is He reminding us today that those things which He has spoken to our hearts He has not forgotten? And yes, it may have been a while, and time has passed by, but He is faithful to do exactly what He has said He will do.

Let Him prepare us as we wait on Him. When all is right, the time will come and we will look and see the GOODNESS of our Heavenly Father.

Hold tight to Him. Continue to press in and draw close. He has not forgotten His personal word to us.

Isaiah 1:19 (NKJV) 19 If you are willing and obedient, You shall eat the good of the land;

Bible Verse of The Day – 10-22-16

Psalm 37:4 (NKJV) 4 Delight yourself also in the Lord, And He shall give you the desires of your heart.

The desires of your heart.

How many times do we hear people talk about God giving us the desires of our heart? It’s safe to say that we hear it a lot! After all, who doesn’t want this? If we’re honest, we will all admit that we want God to give us the desires of our heart.

And God has told us that He will do this. So why does it seem that sometimes we get them and sometimes we don’t? And why do some people seem to have it happen more often than others?

The key to unlock that “secret” is in the first part of the verse shown above; “Delight yourself also in the Lord”.

You see, if we are delighting ourselves in Him, then the desires of our hearts will slowly change and shift. And what we desire will no longer be based solely on our wants. But, instead, we will now have more godly desires, revolving around His will and not ours.

This doesn’t mean that we will never get something that we want. It just means that many of the things that we want will no longer be the same as they once were.

Delight yourself in the Lord!

Bible Verse of The Day – 10-21-16

Matthew 6:19-20 (NKJV) 19 “Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal; 20 but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves do not break in and steal.

Material things. Stuff. Possessions. There are lots of different names for what we own. What’s important is not what it’s called, but what place those things hold in our hearts.

There’s no doubt that we live in a materialistic world. It’s all around us, no matter where we look. And we’re constantly inundated with advertising that touts the latest and the greatest of products.

But as followers of Christ, we need to let the Holy Spirit help us discern when it comes to the things we buy and the things we spend our money on.

So many times we’re not satisfied unless we’re constantly getting bigger and better things. We buy homes that have more rooms than we know what to do with. Or we keep adding on and/or improving them so they feature the newest and best in amenities.

And the cars we drive get more and more expensive, sporting the newest in luxuries, the fastest engines or the latest and greatest in technology.

Are these wrong? Not necessarily. That’s between us and God. We need to seek Him any time we spend the money He has blessed us with. After all, it’s not really our money. He has simply entrusted us with it, to be good stewards of it.

But we all need to understand that living lives of excess isn’t good stewardship. We need to know when “enough is enough”. Again, knowing and understanding this is always between God and each individual.

There is no magic line that we cross that suddenly says “you have too much”. But as we grow and mature as believers, we will be able to see these things more easily and make wiser choices.

Where do our treasures lie?
