Category: Being Thankful

Bible Verse of The Day – 11-27-14

1 Thessalonians 5:15-18 (NKJV) 15 See that no one renders evil for evil to anyone, but always pursue what is good both for yourselves and for all. 16 Rejoice always, 17 pray without ceasing, 18 in everything give thanks; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.

Give thanks in everything.

Think about those words. And no, this isn’t a message geared toward giving thanks because it’s the Thanksgiving Holiday in the USA, although it would seem fitting.

Instead, let’s take a quick look at something else about these verses that many of us have probably never seen before.

As I was reading through this, God showed me the first sentence, “see that no one renders evil for evil”, and then He showed me the beginning of that last sentence, “in everything give thanks”.

And He showed me that the key to doing that first part, not rendering evil for evil, is actually found in doing the second part, giving thanks in everything.

You see, if someone does evil to us, our first reaction in the flesh is figuring out how we can get back at that person.

But if we use God’s wisdom, and we follow the leading of the Holy Spirit, we won’t be caught up in revenge. Instead, we will give thanks for our blessings and let God sort out the rest.

No, it won’t always be easy. And there will be times when we might miss the mark and say or do something that’s not righteous. But as we grow and mature as a believer, we will  get this, and those times when we lose it and lash out should become less and less frequent.

So today, if someone mistreats us or does us wrong, let’s stop and remember what God has commanded us to do. Give thanks in everything!

Bible Verse of The Day – 9-5-14

Exodus 16:35 (NKJV) 35 And the children of Israel ate manna forty years, until they came to an inhabited land; they ate manna until they came to the border of the land of Canaan.

The Israelite’s goal was to reach the promised land. We will all have goals to reach, but there are things to be careful of when trying to reach them.

The Israelites were so focused on getting to the promised land that they missed God’s blessings on the journey. Instead of being thankful, at times they complained.

God fed them manna for forty years. This manna was bread from Heaven.

John 6:31 (NKJV) 31 Our fathers ate the manna in the desert; as it is written, ‘He gave them bread from heaven to eat.’

That is a huge blessing, and not just for one day but for forty years.

Numbers 11:9 (NKJV) 9 And when the dew fell on the camp in the night, the manna fell on it.

Every night this took place! That’s something to see and be thankful for! But yet their eyes were so focused on the promised land, the end result, that they missed out on the blessings and miracles that God did for them along the way.

One of the things I had to learn was that while trying to reach my God-given goals, that I do not forget to enjoy the journey and the blessing on the way.

Enjoy the journey and celebrate when you reach your goal!! Amen.

Bible Verse of The Day – 8-30-14

1 Thessalonians 5:18 (NKJV) 18 in everything give thanks; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.

There are times when we just need to be thankful. Thankful for our health, even if we may have a lot of negatives regarding it; be thankful for the things that are working.

Be thankful for our children, even if they may be going through some hard times. Be thankful for our parents, even if they don’t understand us. Be thankful for our job, even if it isn’t the pay or the position we wanted, etc.

Being consistently thankful will take being alert to all the things going on around us; the good and the not so good things.

If we spend too much time and focus on the not so good, we will miss out on the good things that we could be enjoying while waiting for God to help us with the not so good things happening in our lives.

Let’s not waste one minute of our lives not being thankful. God is so worthy of our thanks!

Thank Him today!!

Bible Verse of The Day – 7-30-14

(Psalm 30:12 NKJV) To the end that my glory may sing praise to You and not be silent. O LORD my God, I will give thanks to You forever.

Being thankful is something we have to be conscious of every day. Have you ever gotten preoccupied with something that you are determined to get done, that you almost forgot about all the other things going on around you? This is something that is very easy to do.

I have to make myself stop, first thing when I wake up. Instead of jumping out of bed and running right downstairs to get my cup of tea, I force myself to take a few minutes and thank God for His goodness.

Sometimes throughout the day I have to force myself to sit for a moment and look around and breathe the fresh air and think. I don’t think about what’s for dinner, I don’t think about work, I don’t think about playtime, I don’t think about tomorrow or next week.

I stop and think about all the good things that are around me, and I begin to speak them out to God and thank Him for them. Most importantly, I thank God for Him and His love, His compassion, forgiveness, and His Salvation.

I think of all the family He has brought me. Some are blood family and some are not blood related, but might as well be. I think of how thankful I am for good friends that are so wonderful to me.

The world, in and of itself, is so beautiful, and it’s all for us to enjoy! I’m not talking about movies, restaurants, cruises or vacations, although they are good and fun too. Those things are pricey and we can’t always afford to do those things. That doesn’t mean we can’t enjoy life. So many wonderful things are free to enjoy, every single day!

Sometimes I just sit outside and look up at the stars and the sky itself. What a sight! I love to listen to the sea and the ocean; such beautiful sounds of the streams, or crashing of a wave.

The birds and their sounds are amazing, if you really listen to them closely. Oh, the sunset and the sunrise every one of them is so breathtaking.

Not to mention the flowers; they are all so different and unique, with lovely aromas.

And there are my grandchildren’s little voices and the pleasure of watching them grow up!

Oh I could go on and on… it’s ALL so good!

Give thanks to Him today!

Bible Verse of The Day – 6-5-14

(Luke 17:15-18 NKJV)  And one of them, when he saw that he was healed, returned, and with a loud voice glorified God, {16} and fell down on his face at His feet, giving Him thanks. And he was a Samaritan. {17} So Jesus answered and said, “Were there not ten cleansed? But where are the nine? {18} “Were there not any found who returned to give glory to God except this foreigner?”

Giving thanks and glorifying God for what He has done for us, and continues to do for us, means a great deal to Him!

We may think that because He has a whole world to take care of that He may not even notice whether or not we tell Him thank you for the things He may do for us or the things He has already done for us. But He does pay attention to these things. It never get’s old for Him.

We never know. We may start thanking Him in the midst of our storm and healing may come, a financial breakthrough might be released, a family member may be saved, the job opportunity that we have been praying for may open up, etc.

He loves it when we give Him Glory, Honor and Praise!

Being thankful and letting Him know that we know He is the One that will bring forth Victory, that He is the One that will make it possible, makes Him happy.

Take the time we need to today and thank Him! Glorify Him! Oh for HE is Good!!

Amen.

Bible Verse of The Day – 3-28-14

1 Thessalonians 5:18 (NKJV) in everything give thanks; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.

Give Thanks. In Everything.

We’ve talked about this before, but we all need a friendly reminder once in a while.

Being thankful is something that some of us are better at than others. Sometimes we are in situations that make it hard to be thankful. Or at least we think it’s hard.

But most times it’s because we’re looking at things the wrong way. We get caught up in looking at what we don’t have, instead of being thankful for what we do have.

God has told us that in everything we need to give thanks!

So today, we want to encourage every one of you to give thanks, regardless of how bad things might be or might seem. Sometimes the darkest times in our lives can bring the most unexpected deliverances from God, if we just keep our faith intact and remain thankful.

Whether we have little or we have much, give thanks.

Bible Verse of The Day – 3-21-14

(1 Thessalonians 5:18 NKJV)  in everything give thanks; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.

Yesterday I got to spend some time with my grandchildren, 5 & 6 yrs. old. As we were playing, I looked around at their bedrooms. I begin to share with them how God sure did bless them.

I went on to share with them how wonderful it was that they had such beautiful things. I said to them, “look at all your wonderful toys and your beautiful bedrooms, oh how nice mommy and daddy have made it for you. Your house is nice and warm and your kitchen is filled with food. God has blessed you and It blesses me to see such wonderful blessings!”

They both got all excited and started to look around and they too began to add to the list of things that they considered a blessing. I shared with them how they need to always remember to thank God, for without Him we would have nothing and He likes when we give Him thanks.

Take a few minutes today and look around. Find the things that God has blessed us with and just thank Him, for He is GOOD!

Bible Verse of The Day – 1-17-14

1 Thessalonians 5:18 (KJV) In every thing give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you.

Give Thanks. In Every Thing.

Doesn’t leave much room for us to wiggle our way out of this, does it?

In everything we do, in every situation, in every emotion we feel, in every thought we think, Give Thanks.

Give thanks once in a while? Or give thanks when we’re happy? Give thanks when we receive a blessing?

Nope!

Give Thanks. In Every Thing!

Notice that it doesn’t use the word “everything”? It says “every thing”. So in every thing that comes our way, we need to give thanks.

Every situation, every mood, every circumstance. Give Thanks.

This might not be the easiest thing to learn, but each and every one of us can get this right if we determine in our heart to do so, and then we ask God to help us get it right.

So the next time we feel like grumbling, or our mood isn’t the best and we want to lash out at someone, Give Thanks.

It will fix our attitude in a hurry!

Bible Verse of The Day – 11-21-13

1 Thessalonians 5:18 (NKJV) in everything give thanks; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.

As each one of us faces the tests and trials that come our way in life, we have to make choices.

First, we have to make choices as to how to handle situations that we’re faced with. Sometimes the choices are easy and other times they can be pretty difficult.

Next, we have to make another choice. We have to choose between being thankful and joyful or being ungrateful and miserable.

Many times we make the choices in the order mentioned above… deciding how to handle a situation first, and then deciding whether we want to be miserable or joyful.

But today I want to suggest that we choose to be thankful first. Then, and only then should we make decisions about how to handle the situation at hand. Because once we have pushed our misery aside and decided to be thankful we are more likely to make wise choices when it comes to finding solutions to the problems we’re facing.

Things look so much better and way less bleak when we give thanks first and then pursue a solution to our problems.

God can bless a thankful person, but will not bless someone who is miserable and ungrateful.

And remember… when we think we have it bad, there is always someone else who has it worse, no matter how big of a pity party we throw for ourselves!

Bible Verse of The Day – 9-21-13

Numbers 11:5-6 (NKJV) 5 We remember the fish which we ate freely in Egypt, the cucumbers, the melons, the leeks, the onions, and the garlic; 6 but now our whole being is dried up; there is nothing at all except this manna before our eyes!”

While the Israelites were in the desert, God provided for their every need, including their food.

He caused something to rain down onto the ground each night, which they gathered in the morning and made meals from. This substance was called manna.

Every day the Israelites had plenty to eat. They had no worries whatsoever when it came to what they would eat each day.

After some time, though, they began to murmur and complain. They wire tired of eating manna, the food that God chose to provide them with.

Our question for everyone today is this “are we like the Israelites? Do we complain about what we have been blessed with, because we’re tired of it or bored with it?”

Whether we have been blessed with a lot or with a little, there isn’t a single person reading this who hasn’t complained about what they have or what they think they lack. We are as guilty as the Israelites.

As God’s people, we need to seek God’s forgiveness for our selfish ways and self-centeredness. It’s easy to fall into the trap of dissatisfaction, but it’s shameful in the eyes of God, and we all need to repent.

Take some time, right now, while you’re reading this, and thank God for what you have been blessed with.

It’s not wrong to want to better yourself, but it is wrong for us to be ungrateful for the things that we already have.
