Bible Verse of The Day – 4-2-18

Ephesians 5:17-21 (NKJV) 17 Therefore do not be unwise, but understand what the will of the Lord is. 18 And do not be drunk with wine, in which is dissipation; but be filled with the Spirit, 19 speaking to one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord, 20 giving thanks always for all things to God the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, 21 submitting to one another in the fear of God.

We will continue today with our breakdown of Ephesians chapter 5. We hope you are enjoying it and getting some new insights from these recent devotionals!

Therefore, do not be unwise. Don’t live thoughtlessly. Use discernment when making decisions. Consider all scenarios and possibilities, and count the cost.

Most of all, seek and carry out what God would want you to do.

Don’t drink wine (or other alcoholic beverages) excessively, to drunkenness. It will eventually destroy you and will also affect those around you negatively. Instead, be filled with the Holy spirit.

Speak words of encouragement and hope to one another. Let God’s word lift you up and bring joy to your hearts.

Sing praises to God in your hearts and be sure to always give thanks to God for all things, in the name of Jesus.

Submit to each other out of reverence for our Savior, Jesus Christ.

Bible Verse of The Day – 5-12-17

Galatians 5:22-23 (NKJV) 22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 gentleness, self-control. Against such there is no law.

There is so much here for all of us to learn from.

The spirit of God is Who we need to look to and depend on in order to live our lives in a way that’s pleasing to God.

It is completely impossible for us to do this on our own, by our own strength, no matter how good a person we might think we are. Our intellect can never tame our flesh, which will always lead us astray.

There are so many attributes above that are produced by the Holy Spirit in us. It’s incredible when we look at them all and realize that God can grow us, despite our own weaknesses and frailties, and our complete lack of ability to conquer our flesh. And when He does so, He cleans us up and causes us to mature to a point where we actually desire to have all of those traits.

And what’s even better is that they will actually manifest in our lives as we build our relationship with Him.

Now that’s a miracle right there!

There is a longing in us to walk daily in the fruits of the Spirit. Not by our strength, but by His strength in us.

Will you join us on this great adventure of learning and growing?

Bible Verse of The Day – 5-26-16

Philippians 4:13 (NKJV) 13 I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.

On our own, we are weak and feeble; Powerless.

But through Him, we are strong and mighty; Powerful!

Sometimes we don’t feel very strong or very mighty. And we definitely have many times when we don’t feel powerful.

Why? Because we get caught in the trap of the enemy and we start looking at things through our own eyes, instead of the eyes of God.

Our heads will always show us the worst of everything. Our minds will believe the lies of the enemy because we can’t make sense of something or because we can’t comprehend what God is telling us He is going to do for us.

But we don’t live by our heads, our understanding or our intellect. We live by the Spirit of God!

Romans 8:13 (NKJV) 13 For if you live according to the flesh you will die; but if by the Spirit you put to death the deeds of the body, you will live.

If we live by our heads, we will trust only what our eyes can see. But as we learn to live by God’s spirit, we will learn a new way of trusting Him. And as we learn to trust Him in everything, we will no longer rely on our eyes or our natural understanding.

Instead, we will begin to learn to walk by faith! And as we learn to walk in faith, our spiritual eyes will be opened and we will see things in a whole new light.

2 Corinthians 5:7 (NKJV) 7 For we walk by faith, not by sight.

Let’s not fall prey to the wiles of the enemy, which bring spiritual blindness and weakness. But, instead, put on the armor of God that we can stand in victory!

Ephesians 6:11 (NKJV) 11 Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.

Bible Verse of The Day – 3-14-14

(Psalm 1:1-2 NKJV)  Blessed is the man Who walks not in the counsel of the ungodly, Nor stands in the path of sinners, Nor sits in the seat of the scornful; {2} But his delight is in the law of the LORD, And in His law he meditates day and night.

Meditating on God’s word helps us to stay sensitive to the things that please Him. The more we keep our thoughts and heart pure, the easier it gets to do the right things throughout our day. We are blessed if we can stay clear of the things that are not pleasing to God.

In order to stay clear of the things that are not godly, we must be strong in our spirit man, and to get strong we need to meditate on His word, letting it penetrate the deepest part of our heart.

Enjoy your time with Him. God is faithful!!

(Psalm 37:4 NKJV)  Delight yourself also in the LORD, And He shall give you the desires of your heart.

Amen.

Bible Verse of The Day – 10-10-13

(John 3:6 NKJV)  “That which is born of the flesh is flesh, and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit.

The Spirit of God is birthed in us when we repent of our sins and we ask His Son, Jesus Christ to be our Lord and Savior. He comes in and, from there, we let Him change our heart and transform us into the person He wants us to be.

The flesh will begin to change as we let God’s Spirit grow within us, through reading His Word and praying.

The difference between the flesh and the Spirit is as God’s word says…

(Galatians 5:19-23 NKJV)  Now the works of the flesh are evident, which are: adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lewdness, {20} idolatry, sorcery, hatred, contentions, jealousies, outbursts of wrath, selfish ambitions, dissensions, heresies, {21} envy, murders, drunkenness, revelries, and the like; of which I tell you beforehand, just as I also told you in time past, that those who practice such things will not inherit the kingdom of God.

{22} But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, {23} gentleness, self-control. Against such there is no law.

When you are born of the Spirit, you have flesh and Spirit living together in your body. In order to have peace, God’s Spirit must be ruler. Therefore the flesh must come under submission to the Spirit of God.

Let God’s Spirit be the ruler in your heart today!! Amen.

Bible Verse of The Day – 11-7-12

(Mat 5:8 NKJV)  Blessed are the pure in heart, For they shall see God.

The pure in heart…what does that mean? How do we become “pure in heart” in God’s eyes?

There are two aspects to this. There is the spiritual side, the things that aren’t tangible. And there is the natural side, the things that are tangible.

I will try to keep this brief, so please bear with me as we walk through this together.

When we become followers of Christ, when we accept Him in faith as our savior, we become pure in heart (in a spiritual sense) simply because we’re washed in the blood of Jesus.

But in the natural, we can still be very impure in our hearts. This is where we need God to help us clean ourselves up. This is where it takes God’s spirit, God’s teaching and God’s correction to help us see the things in our lives that need to be changed, so we become pure in heart in a natural sense.

So what does this mean, and how do we do it?

We do it one little step at a time! It starts with little things, like maybe watching what comes out of our mouths. God helps us clean up our language and the way we talk. This would include things like swearing, gossiping, etc.

Then He might show us something else that He wants to help us with, like the things that we take in with our eyes and our ears. Movies, TV & Music play a huge part in our lives these days. TV and movies are no longer family-friendly and most of it isn’t God-friendly.

I know these are touchy subjects with a lot of people, but the impact that these things have on our lives is incredibly huge. And many of us don’t fully realize how big the impact is. We also don’t realize what we’re subjecting ourselves to.

Now think about this and take this very seriously, because it’s vital to us becoming pure in heart! If we have accepted Christ as our savior, this means that we have the Holy Spirit (God’s Spirit) living in us. He is with us everywhere we go. He sees everything we see and He hears everything we hear.

So we need to understand fully that if we watch a movie or a TV show with immoral images, we’re subjecting God to this. If we hear or listen to things in a movie, a TV show or in music that are contrary to God’s word or are not pleasing to God, we are subjecting God to it too.

Once we really start to get understanding in this, and we truly want to please God, we will start being more careful about what we watch and what we listen to.

Now don’t take this wrong. We are not saying that Christians shouldn’t watch movies or listen to music artists that aren’t Christians, but it does mean that we need to use discernment and let God guide us when it comes to what we choose to watch or listen to.

Our choices in these areas will go a very long way toward helping us to become pure in heart, even in the natural!

Bible Verse of The Day – 7-24-12

(John 14:12 NKJV)  “Most assuredly, I say to you, he who believes in Me, the works that I do he will do also; and greater works than these he will do, because I go to My Father.

I know we have touched on this subject recently, but I want to hit it again because it’s so very critical to the life of the church.

Jesus spoke these words. He proclaimed very plainly, using no symbolism whatsoever, that we, His followers and believers, would do greater works than He did. He went on to say, a few verses later, that the Father would be sending the Holy Spirit, the helper, who would abide with us forever.

Jesus never, ever told us that we would do miracles for a short time and then that power would run out when the last apostle died. He never intended for His church to be duped into believing that healing and deliverance were only for specific people to perform during a specific era.

In the verse above He plainly stated that “he who believes in Me” will do greater works then He did.

We are meant to live a life that displays the power of God through the Holy Spirit. We need the power of the Holy Spirit. Anything less is just knowledge and intellectualism. Intellect can never fight spiritual battles, cast out demons or heal a sick body.

I implore you today to believe God’s word in its full power, not just part of it! It’s essential for us to take God at His word and live a life of power and spiritual understanding if we are to be effective in this world.

Seek God and ask Him to give you understanding so you can walk in the power He intended for us to have.

Bible Verse of The Day – 7-19-12

(Mat 15:18 KJV)  But those things which proceed out of the mouth come forth from the heart; and they defile the man.

What comes out of the heart is what defiles a man. That is where it all starts… in the heart.

You see, by the time it comes out of the mouth the damage was already done. It was the heart that passed it through. We shouldn’t just repent for the words we have spoken, but for our heart’s condition. That is the root of it.

Have you ever heard someone say, “we need to get right to the root of the problem”? The root is where something starts growing and grows deeper if it remains in place. No matter what changes you make, if those changes aren’t at the root, it will keep coming back.

This year I planted a garden and when I go out to weed it, the weeds look so little compared to the plants themselves. However, when I pull them up they are strong and they like to break off right at the ground. But, the root of them is beneath the ground and if I don’t rip it out, that same weed will come back.

Our heart is the root of a lot of our problems. It’s a hard thing to admit to some of the things that are in there. But once we see them, they’ve been exposed to us and there is no hiding it any longer.

The first thing we need to do is ask God to help us get it out of there. It won’t go away on its own. It takes work and, like anything else, it takes sacrifice. It takes giving some things up that mean a lot to us; letting go of things that make us feel comfortable and making adjustments.

It might not be comfortable or pleasant at first, but it’s a necessity if we want to grow as a believer.

Bible Verse of The Day – 7-14-12

(Mat 5:20 KJV)  For I say unto you, That except your righteousness shall exceed the righteousness of the scribes and Pharisees, ye shall in no case enter into the kingdom of heaven.

Today we have in the leaders church with the same mentality as the Scribes and Pharisees. They stand in the pulpit and teach what they think about God’s Word to be truth with their own understand, sharing and imparting wrong ideas and agendas.

Why do they do this? Because they don’t believe that the Holy Spirit was for everyone. They only believe He was for the Disciples and when they died that ended it all.

Without the gift of the Holy Spirit we can’t do the things that God wants us to do and He knew this. That’s why He sent Him to the disciples and for you and I. With Him helping us we can make right decisions, and know the timing of when to do things. There is discernment, understanding and strength to keep walking and to not give up during times when our natural minds just want to crash.

(John 14:16-17 NKJV)  “And I will pray the Father, and He will give you another Helper, that He may abide with you forever; {17} “the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees Him nor knows Him; but you know Him, for He dwells with you and will be in you.

Our Helper, the Holy Spirit, is wanting to help us today. Let us not push Him away.

Bible Verse of The Day – 6-4-12

(Mat 5:8 NKJV)  Blessed are the pure in heart, For they shall see God.

How do we get pure in our hearts?  By receiving, believing and following Christ, and then repenting and turning from our ways of doing things and following His commandments.

Jesus’ blood cleanses us as we receive Him as our Lord and Savior. Do you know the song, “What can wash me white as SNOW, Nothing but the BLOOD of Jesus!!”?  That song says it all, it’s the blood of Jesus that has given us the freedom to go to God and have a relationship with Him. Thank God for Jesus and His blood that was so pure, so clean, and so perfect.

Reading God’s Word will allow us to get to know Him, the person that He is, the things He loves, the things He hates, and so forth.

As we allow God to cleanse us, and we work to keep the junk out on a daily basis, we will see more and more of God in our lives. (James 4:8) God wants to draw near to us…we just have to want to draw near to Him.

Bible Verse of The Day – 6-2-12

(John 3:30 NKJV)  “He must increase, but I must decrease.

John the Baptist spoke these words, referring to Jesus.

John had spent his time preparing people for the arrival of the Messiah. Now that Jesus was on the scene, John knew that it was time for him to fade into the background and let Jesus be known to all.

This should be the same in our lives. As we draw closer to Jesus, we should decrease and He should increase.

As He molds us and shapes us, we should become more and more like Him. God’s word tells us that when we become born again, we are a new creation; the old has passed away.

If the old has truly passed away and we are a new creation, then this should show in our lives.

We should decrease, so He can increase. We’ll be better off for it.
