Bible Verse of The Day – 8-14-19

Psalm 56:3 (NKJV) 3 Whenever I am afraid, I will trust in You.

Fear can be a terrible thing. It can cause us to do things we might think we would never do. It can make us run and hide at times, cowering from the thing we are in fear of.

On the other hand, fear can be a good thing in certain situations. Fear can keep us from doing things that are harmful to us or to others. We can learn from that kind of fear. It can protect us.

As a whole, though, God doesn’t want fear to play a major role in our lives. Why? Because fear can really mess us up if we’re not careful.

Fear can stop us from doing things that God wants us to do. It can push us back from the steps that we need to take at times. And it can cause us to question our faith, or maybe even doubt God.

Look at what fear did to Elijah when he became afraid of Jezebel.

1 Kings 19:3 (NKJV) 3 And when he saw that, he arose and ran for his life, and went to Beersheba, which belongs to Judah, and left his servant there.

Elijah’s life had been threatened by Jezebel, so it’s understandable that he would run. But in doing so, he quickly forgot what God had just done through him a short time earlier, when he slayed a large number of prophets of Baal.

So, if fear can cause Elijah to run after such an amazing feat, it’s no wonder that it can also cause us to turn and run.

The important thing to remember about fear is that we can’t conquer it on our own. With God, though, we can overcome it and do whatever it is that God wants us to do.

We need to trust Him at all times, even when things might look bleak and we are fearful, not just when everything is going smoothly.

It’s during those times of fear that our trust in God can grow and be strengthened, if we will stand with Him and follow His leading. It’s not always easy, as Elijah found out. But when we do stand firm, it can be very, very rewarding.

And, as we stand firm, trusting in God, our relationship with Him will grow stronger as we watch Him move on our behalf.

Whenever we are afraid, trust in Him.

Bible Verse of The Day – 8-9-19

Psalm 56:3 (NKJV) 3 Whenever I am afraid, I will trust in You.

We all face fear from time to time.

Sometimes it’s a choice we might have made. Other times it’s a situation that we find ourselves in. There are very many things that we can cause us to be afraid.

Many believers feel that it’s bad to be afraid… that God is disappointed with us if we express fear. But this isn’t true.

Fear is something that is natural. God created us to fear certain things. It’s part of how we protect ourselves from things that are dangerous or harmful for us.

There is something, though, that God wants us to do when we face fear. He wants us to go to Him.

He doesn’t want us to run and hide. He doesn’t want us to make rash decisions. He doesn’t want us to let the fear control us.

As we go to Him, it’s OK to let Him know that we’re afraid. But once we do that, He wants us to let Him show us how to handle it.

God is faithful to guide us and give us His wisdom, if we will allow Him to. That’s the key to beating those things that make us fearful; receiving and following His counsel.

In Matthew 8:25-26, the disciples had become fearful for their lives as they were crossing the water in a boat. Jesus was with them and had fallen asleep.

As they saw their situation, they became fearful and woke Jesus to express their fear. Jesus scolded them for their lack of faith, and then He proceeded to rebuke the wind and the waves, bringing instant calm.

The important thing to take note of here is not the fact that Jesus scolded the disciples, but why He scolded them.

He didn’t scold them because they were afraid. He scolded them because they let their fear get the best of them and cause them to act irrationally, instead of simply asking Him for help in knowing what to do about it.

So that’s the lesson for us here; going to God to ask for His help and counsel, instead of running away, defeated by the fear.

When we’re afraid, let’s trust in Him.

Bible Verse of The Day – 4-11-19

1 Kings 19:9 (NKJV) 9 And there he went into a cave, and spent the night in that place; and behold, the word of the Lord came to him, and He said to him, “What are you doing here, Elijah?”

Elijah was hiding out in a cave. His life had been threatened and he became afraid of what he thought was going to happen.

If fear can cause Elijah, a prophet of God, to run and hide I’d say it can get the best of us too.

God was like, “Elijah, what are you doing here?”. Elijah had picked up and run when Jezabel had threatened to kill him. He answered God and said, “God, they’re going to kill me!”

1 Kings 19:10 So he said, “I have been very zealous for the Lord God of hosts; for the children of Israel have forsaken Your covenant, torn down Your altars, and killed Your prophets with the sword. I alone am left; and they seek to take my life.”

You see, Elijah was intimidated by what he heard. He took it as though it was absolute. That it was final.

Let us learn a lesson, that no matter how big and bad the enemy may look or sound, no matter what he tries to say he is going to do to us, We stand on the promises of God.

How many of us today are on the run? We need to stop running, hiding and avoiding people and situations because of fear.

God told Elijah go and to return to the wilderness. And he gave him specific instructions as to what to do when he got there.

1 Kings 19:15 (NKJV) 15 Then the Lord said to him: “Go, return on your way to the Wilderness of Damascus; and when you arrive, anoint Hazael as king over Syria.

God does not want us running in fear. He wants us to stand even when the enemy is trying to take us out.

Go. Return to our station, and heed God’s voice. He will give us direction. Amen.

Bible Verse of The Day – 10-25-18

Romans 8:15 (NKJV) 15 For you did not receive the spirit of bondage again to fear, but you received the Spirit of adoption by whom we cry out, “Abba, Father.”

Fear is something that many people wrestle with on various levels.

There are many different types of fear. And people can be fearful for many different reasons.

In the end, it really doesn’t matter what it is that we’re afraid of. What really matters is that we face our fears and let God help us conquer them.

We can’t usually beat them on our own. We need God’s help. And He helps us in so many different ways.

Sometimes He simply shows us that our fears are unfounded and are based solely on something we have imagined in our minds.

Other times, He shows us why we’re fearful. And then He teaches us why we don’t need to be afraid.

Still, other times, he will put us face to face with whatever it is that we’re afraid of. And then He will walk us through the difficult process of not only staring that fear in the face, but pushing it back and defeating it once and for all.

Just as each of us is different and unique, so God will also help each of us face and defeat our fears in a way that He knows will truly help us win whatever battle we are fighting with fear.

Why does He do this? Because He has adopted us as His own children. And as our heavenly Father, He wants us to live our lives confident in Him, not running from everything that we come up against.

Bible Verse of The Day – 3-25-16

Psalm 27:1 (NKJV) 27 The Lord is my light and my salvation; Whom shall I fear? The Lord is the strength of my life; Of whom shall I be afraid?

Fear is something that we all deal with at different times in our lives. It’s something that comes in various forms and to varying degrees for each of us.

We all fear different things. Some fear being alone. Some fear being in poverty. Some fear sickness and disease. Some fear rejection. The list can be lengthy.

Fear is not from God. It comes from the enemy of our soul. It can come in subtle ways or it can be blatant and in our face.

As we walk through life, we can face so many things that can cause us to fear. Sometimes these things can grip us and tear our emotions to pieces, causing us to feel like ships tossed about on angry ocean waves in the midst of a terrible storm.

But we’re here to tell you that we do not have to be afraid! Yes, some things are hard to deal with and they can seem terrible as we face them. But God is with us. He is by our side. So no matter what we face, He will bring us through.

Isaiah 41:10 (NKJV) 10 Fear not, for I am with you; Be not dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you, Yes, I will help you, I will uphold you with My righteous right hand.’

There may be times when it feels like we’re being torn apart by the storm, but God is our anchor. He is our deliverer. He is the rock upon which our lives stand firm.

Psalm 27:5 (NKJV) 5 For in the time of trouble He shall hide me in His pavilion; In the secret place of His tabernacle He shall hide me; He shall set me high upon a rock.

So in the midst of your own personal storm, cry out to Him. Cling to Him. And rejoice in His strength and His faithfulness.

And stand firm in your faith. No storm lasts forever.
