Bible Verse of The Day – 6-18-18

Galatians 6:14 (NKJV) 14 But God forbid that I should boast except in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ, by whom the world has been crucified to me, and I to the world.

Self-confidence. Self-esteem. Self-assurance. Self-respect.

We hear a lot about all of these attributes these days. Self-esteem has become a big deal, even in the church.

While there is some merit in what is being taught, most of it is quite backwards. The idea of self-esteem is that we need to think highly of ourselves, have faith in ourselves, depend on ourselves for everything, knowing that we can do it all.

God has created us with skills, talents, abilities and much more. We do have a lot within ourselves. But it’s not because of anything we have done. We have these things because of who God is and what He has done.

What we do with what God has given us is totally up to us. God gives us the freedom to choose. But whatever we choose to do, we need to always be careful to give Him the glory and the honor for it. As soon as we start taking the credit for ourselves, we are headed for trouble.

So, what we need to remember is that it is through Christ that we can do all things, not by our own strength or understanding, especially relating to the kingdom of God.

Philippians 4:13 (NKJV) 13 I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.

And when we begin operating solely on our own strength and our own understanding, we will almost always end up off track, scrambling later on to fix our mistakes.

 Proverbs 3:5 (NKJV) 5 Trust in the Lord with all your heart, And lean not on your own understanding;

Bible Verse of The Day – 5-31-18

Proverbs 16:18 (NKJV) 18 Pride goes before destruction, And a haughty spirit before a fall.

Keeping pride out of our life is a constant battle. We have to be watching ourselves on a regular basis.

There are so many ways we can become prideful. We can be prideful about having a nice car, having well-behaved, smart children, having a large home or material wealth. We can be prideful about wearing name brand clothes, our position or our title, etc.

There are so many things that can make us prideful, but it doesn’t mean we have to be.

How do we fight this and win?

The first step is being aware of the fact that pride is lurking and wanting to take over. The second step is to keep a close eye on our attitude toward certain people and situations. The third step is to address our behavior or attitude if we start seeing signs of pride, even if it seems small and insignificant.

Pride of any type should not have a place in any of us.

Bible Verse of The Day – 1-16-18

Luke 1:37 (NKJV) 37 For with God nothing will be impossible.”

When we finally realize that the “WITH” in this scripture is KEY, we will put the brakes on when it comes to trying to do things by ourselves.

We will find a rest within ourselves and stop trying to do it all. And no, it doesn’t make us weak to do this. Instead, it makes us stronger than ever. And the things we do will have a great turn out!

We need God in all that we do. And what we do, we need to do with Him, not FOR Him.

Sometimes we may hear statements like, “Oh, I did this for God today”, or things like “We are doing all this for God”.

When we think we are doing things for God, we need to watch out. It can cause problems if we’re not careful.

Pride can set in, and it can make us think that we are better than others. Honestly, it can cause people to want to run the other way. They don’t even want to be around us because they see and hear it in us.

When we do things for Him on our own, it is being done in and through the natural man, and with natural intellect. The natural man cannot handle spiritual things on his own. Without the leading and help of the Holy Spirit he will make a mess of things in a hurry.

If we want to see God move in any situation, do what He asks, but do it with Him. Amen.

Bible Verse of The Day – 1-8-18

Matthew 18:4 (NKJV) 4 Therefore whoever humbles himself as this little child is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven.

One of the hardest things to do in life is to remain humble. It’s a constant battle to keep pride from growing in us.

Pride is the very thing that will cause us to fall and keep us from being great in the kingdom of heaven.

Proverbs 16:18 (NKJV) 18 Pride goes before destruction, And a haughty spirit before a fall.

Pride is the opposite of being humble, and when we’re prideful it shows. We don’t have to dig too deep to find it. It is usually seen right on the surface of man.

A prideful person usually exposes themselves quickly through their actions and their words. They tend to be rude, arrogant and full of themselves. If a humble person listens to the talk of a haughty person they will quickly find themselves getting irritated.

A prideful person will not listen or let anyone else have the floor to speak. They will not follow anyone or their instructions. They want nothing else, but to LEAD. Prideful people like to have complete control over every situation.

How do we remain humble as the child that Jesus referred to, and become great in God’s kingdom?

We stop doing whatever we feel like doing and we listen to God’s instruction. We follow His statutes and His plan for our life.

Jesus hits pride hard in this one little verse.

Matthew 16:24(NKJV) 24 Then Jesus said to His disciples, “If anyone desires to come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow Me.

It’s the denying of ourselves and the following of His lead that destroys the pride that tries to take root in all of us.

Bible Verse of The Day – 11-9-17

Proverbs 16:18 (NKJV) 18 Pride goes before destruction, And a haughty spirit before a fall.

Pride is destructive, no matter how we look at it.

Some people are just prideful. They know it and it doesn’t bother them. They parade it and wear it like a badge of honor.

Sometimes, though, we can be prideful and not even realize it. We can move and do things in proud ways and never even give it a thought. It might have crept in slowly and quietly. Many times, this can be related to something we do that we have become very good at.

Sports, studies, a trade, a hobby, our career, or even our ministry. These are all areas where pride will sneak in and live undetected for years and years.

Many times, this pride will show up in ways that will give it away, like maybe in fancy titles. Many of these titles take time and effort to acquire, so the people who attain these levels of education or achievement display those titles as a way of showing people their accomplishments.

But even if we have worked hard to accomplish certain things, pride is still pride, no matter how we try to dress it up.

This isn’t to say that all titles are wrong. Not at all. But when titles become so important to us that we have trouble writing our name without the title attached, or when we feel like people owe it to us to address us using our title, we probably have a little problem brewing.

Just as in the world, the body of Christ is also wrestling with this. Titles have taken on new importance during the last few decades. People have taken to adding titles before or after their names to deem themselves more important or distinguished, or with the hopes it will garner them some attention and help propel them to higher levels of notoriety.

But with God, titles carry no weight. He looks at the heart of man, not at the title or the stature of the person.

1 Samuel 16:7 (NKJV) 7 But the Lord said to Samuel, “Do not look at his appearance or at his physical stature, because I have refused him. For the Lord does not see as man sees; for man looks at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart.”

So, let’s check ourselves and ask God to show us where pride may have crept in and taken hold of us, even in some small way.

And then let’s ask Him to root it out of us and give us a clean heart.

Psalm 51:10 (NKJV) 10 Create in me a clean heart, O God, And renew a steadfast spirit within me.

Bible Verse of The Day – 10-13-17

Proverbs 16:18 (NKJV) 18 Pride goes before destruction, And a haughty spirit before a fall.

Pride will be the downfall of even the most well-intentioned people, including God’s people.

Sadly, many church leaders become victims of pride. God wants to use some of these men and women to do mighty works. But as they begin to see God’s hand moving in their lives, pride sets in and they end up straying from the path that God had set before them.

It’s important that we remember that pride was what caused Lucifer, one of God’s highest angels, to fall and be cast from heaven.

So, if it can happen to him, it can happen to anyone.

We need to be very careful, whether we are laypeople or leaders, not to let pride set in. We need to guard ourselves from pride and arrogance if we want to stay within God’s plan for us and continue to be used by Him.

How do we tell if we have become prideful?

Do we love it when people tell us how much they see God using us?

Do we gloat about the things God is doing through us?

Do we look down on others in the body of Christ because we feel we are better than them, or more gifted than them?

Do we get hung up on titles that make us sound distinguished?

This is just a short list of things we can use to check ourselves. It’s critical that we’re 100% honest about all of them. And we need to let God show us where we’re at with this.

We encourage everyone to let God give us all a heart examination. Let Him shine His bright, holy light into our hearts and lives and show us where pride may have crept in. And then let Him root it out once and for all.

We can’t let pride destroy us.

Bible Verse of The Day – 7-11-17

Genesis 6:13 (NKJV) 13 And God said to Noah, “The end of all flesh has come before Me, for the earth is filled with violence through them; and behold, I will destroy them with the earth.

It’s interesting that certain people, such as scientists, kings, political leaders, people with power, etc. think that they are untouchable and can do whatever they want.

They don’t realize how powerful God is and that the power they think they have, they don’t have at all. They only have what God allows them to have.

We also do not have the power or control we think we have.

Do we understand that in a split second all that we have worked for, our money, home, business, ministry, family, etc., could be gone? That’s right, just like that.

What causes us to think that we are in CONTROL and have power over our own lives?

It’s a false sense of security, and it stems from pride. And pride is not from God.

Proverbs 1:7 (NKJV) 7 The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge, But fools despise wisdom and instruction.

Just a little reminder today about Who is really in control and that our fear should not be of man or of losing what we have built up in treasures. Instead, we should have a reverent fear of our Lord, His might and His power and all that He is.

If we want to put our efforts into building anything worth keeping, build it in knowing Him and following His commandments. He is our strong tower.

Proverbs 18:10 (NKJV) 10 The name of the Lord is a strong tower; The righteous run to it and are safe.

Bible Verse of The Day – 9-9-16

Numbers 14:24 But My servant Caleb, because he has a different spirit in him and has followed Me fully, I will bring into the land where he went, and his descendants shall inherit it.

God mentioned above that Caleb had a different spirit. The difference in Caleb’s spirit was that he recognized his own weakness and yet had no problem believing that His God would give them victory over the giants in that land.

He knew that God wanted them to possess the land, and no matter what it took, it would be the way God said it would be.

That’s the difference in spirit.

What were the other men saying? “We can’t, they are too big, it’s not for us.” They were weak, full of doubt and looking for sympathy.

Even though they looked like they were afraid and scared, in reality they were full of pride. They thought, “if we can’t do it, comprehend it or see that it’s possible, then we need to dismiss it”. They thought that if they couldn’t do it by their own strength then it couldn’t be done. They left God completely out of the equation!

That is full-blown pride right there. Because it’s in our weakness that God’s strength is made perfect. Acknowledging our weakness and letting God help us is the different spirit that God was referring to.

So many people miss out on the things God can do because of the different spirit, the spirit of pride that will dismiss the next step; The most important step. The step that involves humility and accepting God’s help.

Are we letting God’s strength be made perfect in our weakness today? Or do we dismiss something because we can’t figure it out intellectually?

It’s the humble, those who admit their weakness and allow God to help them through it, that will reach the promised land! Amen.

James 4:10 (NKJV) 10 Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and He will lift you up.

What is God showing us today? Are we admitting we can’t do it without Him? Are we willing to let Him teach us something outside of what we already know?

Let Him help us reach our promised land today by acknowledging that we need Him.

Bible Verse of The Day – 8-12-16

Proverbs 11:2 (NKJV) 2 When pride comes, then comes shame; But with the humble is wisdom.

No matter where we are at in life, it’s always important that we remain humble and teachable.

We can be the CEO of a major company or we can be jobless and without a place to live. No matter what our position or situation in life, humility is a critical attribute that we always need to pursue.

Sometimes we can get ourselves into some pretty deep trouble when we get prideful. We may not even know we’ve become proud or haughty, but God will always be willing to give us an attitude adjustment when we need it!

And let’s just say that it’s much better for us if we recognize our pridefulness and make the adjustments ourselves than for God to have to do it for us.

And pride can creep into our lives in such subtle ways that we might never believe it if someone told us that we’re proud.

So let’s do some inventory of our life today. Have we become prideful or boastful about anything lately?

Are we holding our heads high because of some of our accomplishments or because of our financial status?

There can be many, many things that we get prideful about. But none of them is worth us getting into hot water with God and causing Him to have to rebuke us and correct us.

Let’s check ourselves and root out that terrible thing called pride, before it causes us to fall.

Bible Verse of The Day – 10-30-15

Proverbs 18:12 (NKJV) 12 Before destruction the heart of a man is haughty, and before honor is humility.

Humility.

Without it, we can’t be saved. It takes humbling ourselves and admitting our need for God’s grace, mercy and salvation in order to receive it.

Without it, we can never be the person who God wants us to be. It takes humility to admit that we have faults and we need God to help us correct those faults.

Without it, we will continue to live in sinful ways. We need to be humble to allow the Holy Spirit to convict us of our sins and let Him show us where and how to change.

Without it, we will live a life full of unforgiveness against others. It takes being humble to admit that we are sometimes wrong and we need to forgive others when they do wrong to us.

Humility will lead us into God’s arms. Pride, the opposite of humility, will lead us away from His arms, and into the arms of the enemy, if we’re not careful.

We all need to seek God and ask Him to show us where we have pride in our lives, and ask Him to help us remove it so we can draw closer to Him.

Bible Verse of The Day – 9-14-15

Isaiah 14:14 (NKJV) 14 I will ascend above the heights of the clouds, I will be like the Most High.’

What would cause someone to ever dream of saying something like this? How could anyone ever want to or think that they could ascend above God and make themselves like Him?

One word; pride.

Pride is one of the most destructive things that we can deal with as human beings.

Most sin is the result of pride. We don’t want to humble ourselves under the hand of God or submit to people in leadership over us. So we do whatever we feel like doing.

Pride will cause us to make some crazy decisions and it will never, ever lead us to anything good.

Proverbs 16:18 (NKJV) 18 Pride goes before destruction, And a haughty spirit before a fall.

Lucifer was at the throne of God, serving Him as a head angel. Yet, in his pride, he thought he could rise above God and be like Him. He even managed to convince a third of the angels that he could do this.

The end result wasn’t good.

Pride can be very subtle and sneaky. It won’t always rear its ugly head in obvious ways, like it did with lucifer. Most times it’s so sneaky that we don’t see it creeping in until it’s done serious damage.

But it’s never too late to change. It’s never too late to repent, humble ourselves and ask God to help us to get back on the right track. And it’s never too late to make things right and learn from our experiences.

Today, let’s ask God to show us where we might have become prideful. Even in the littlest of ways. Let’s repent and let Him help us to get rid of that haughty attitude and proud spirit, before it does more damage in our lives and the lives of those around us.
