Bible Verse of The Day – 11-4-13

Acts 16:23-25 (NKJV) 23 And when they had laid many stripes on them, they threw them into prison, commanding the jailer to keep them securely. 24 Having received such a charge, he put them into the inner prison and fastened their feet in the stocks.25 But at midnight Paul and Silas were praying and singing hymns to God, and the prisoners were listening to them.

Paul and Silas were in prison. Not only were they in prison, but they had been thrown into the inner-most parts of the prison, just to be sure they wouldn’t escape.

Now, prior to being thrown into the deepest, darkest parts of the prison, Paul and Silas had been beaten and whipped. They were not in very good shape at this point.

But look at what these verses say that they did, after receiving beatings and being put in stocks to keep them secure. They prayed and sang hymns to God! And the other prisoners heard them singing!

Do you feel like you’ve been beaten and thrown into prison? Do you have heavy burdens on you right now? Are your going through struggles in your life? I think that every one of us can answer yes to this in one way or another.

So the question now is this; how are we handling our “time in the inner prison”? Are we having a pity party? Are we whining to everyone about how bad off we are? Do we want the whole world to know about our situation, with the hope that someone will bail us out?

Or are we praying and singing hymns to God, praising Him and thanking Him for who He is?

We could expound further on this and talk about what happened to Paul and Silas next, and how they won a great victory, but we want to stop right here and let God’s Spirit work on each and every one of us.

Are we whining or are we winning?

Bible Verse of The Day – 11-4-13

(Mark 16:17 NKJV)  “And these signs will follow those who believe: In My name they will cast out demons; they will speak with new tongues;

One morning as we were preparing for the day, we received a phone call from a mother of a young lady. The young lady was 15 yrs. old. Her mother explained her daughter’s condition to us.

Her daughter was acting like a little girl, crawling around the house and saying things like Mama, Dada. In the same breath, she would say the alphabet backwards, in Spanish. The girl had almost no knowledge of the Spanish language.

She was having very violent outbursts toward her parents, telling them that she hated them and trying to physically hurt them.

They didn’t know what to do with her, so they took her to the hospital. The hospital admitted her to the Psych ward. At the Psych ward, she would throw herself off the bed onto a hard floor, trying to kill the baby that was growing inside of her.

When we received the call, we knew immediately that we needed to go to her. Before going, we knew we needed to prepare ourselves for what was about to take place that evening. We entered into a fast and prayed that God would go before us.

Later that evening, as we arrived, we saw this 15 yr. old girl in a chair with a tray across her lap, to lock her in place. She was slouched way down. She had black circles under her eyes and she was cold to the touch. She looked up at us, and in a very slow, weak voice, with every little bit of energy she had in her, she sighed, help me.

We took her into a private room and began to pray with her. As she looked at us, the pupils in her eyes went from tiny to huge. We knew at that point what we were dealing with as God gave us wisdom.

After praying and casting the demonic spirits out of her, she prayed the prayer of Salvation. This 15 yr. old girl was saved at that moment.

Her countenance immediately began to change and a peace came over the room. It wasn’t long before they released her from the hospital.

Today that young lady is a mother of a beautiful teenage boy and she works with the elderly as a Certified Nursing Assistant!

Praise be to God Almighty. He is Good!

Bible Verse of The Day – 11-2-13

Genesis 3:4 (NKJV) Then the serpent said to the woman, “You will not surely die.

As Eve looked upon the fruit on the tree in the middle of the garden… the fruit that Adam and Eve were forbidden to eat, the devil tried to convince her that God had lied to them.

Before she knew it, Eve had taken the fruit from the tree and taken a bite. Then she gave it to Adam so he could also eat of it.

The deception was successful and the course of man was forever changed.

Here we are thousands of years later and the devil is still whispering in the ears of men and women across the world. He whispers to you and he whispers to me.

He tempts each and every one of us, every single day.

When he tempted Eve, she gave in and ate the fruit. Today, when you and I are tempted, we don’t have to fall into the traps he lays for us. We have a weapon to fight against his wiles.

That weapon is the Holy Spirit. God’s spirit lives inside of each of us, giving us everything we need in order to have victory over the enemy. He tells us right from wrong and cautions us when temptation is coming our way. All we need to do is listen and obey His voice.

If we can do this, we will find ourselves having victory over sin instead of falling prey to temptation, over and over again.

Bible Verse of The Day – 11-1-13

Ephesians 2:8-9 (NKJV) 8 For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, 9 not of works, lest anyone should boast.

Salvation is given to us as a free gift, through God’s grace.

This grace is also something that we cannot earn or work for, no matter how hard we might try.

I love the fact that God puts every, single one of us on a level playing field, by eliminating “the favor factor”. He doesn’t view what you’ve done as worse than what I’ve done or what I’ve done as worse than what you’ve done!

We are equal in God’s eyes. Period.

Some of us struggle with this, trying so hard to earn God’s grace and favor. But we need to realize that everything we need with regard to God’s grace was already paid for on the cross.

It doesn’t matter if you’re a new Christian or if you’ve been saved for most of your life, or even if you’re searching for God and don’t know anything about Him, God’s grace is freely given to each of us.

So stop struggling, trying to work hard to earn what God has already freely given. All the hard work in the world won’t get more grace for you.

Dropping our pride and kneeling at the feet of God in complete humility, repentance and reverence is what He truly wants from us.
