Bible Verse of The Day – 1-6-15

1 Corinthians 9:24 (NKJV) 24 Do you not know that those who run in a race all run, but one receives the prize? Run in such a way that you may obtain it.

We are all running in a race.

We have our eye set on the prize, or at least we should have our eye set on the prize, our eternal home in heaven with our Creator.

God’s word tells us to run in such a way that we may obtain it!

So let’s look at something for a minute. Have you ever watched people running a race and one of them suddenly falls down? I would dare say that any of us who has ever watched any kind of race has seen someone fall. It just happens.

But what did you see next? Did that runner just lay there and let the race finish as they laid there?

Absolutely not! They got up and ran even harder, to try and make up for the time they lost while they were down. And most times you will hear the crowd cheer them on to try to encourage them to catch up with the rest of the runners.

Stuff happens in all our lives. We move ahead and then something comes along that knocks us down or pushes us backwards. None of us likes it, but it’s just a part of life.

The question, though, is “what will we do when we’ve fallen?”. Will we stay down and roll around in the dirt a little? Or will we get up, brush ourselves off and then move forward again?

Well, if we follow God’s leading, we won’t just get back up. We’ll get back up and run hard, in such a way that we may still obtain the prize.

Just as that crowd cheers for the runner who has fallen and gotten back up, so God is encouraging us when we fall and then get back up, to keep our eye on the prize and run in such a way that we may obtain it.

Bible Verse of The Day – 1-5-15

Exodus 20:3 (NKJV) 3 “You shall have no other gods before Me.

It’s the beginning of a new year!! A good time to check ourselves and make sure we are not putting anyone or anything before God.

Just the other morning I got up bright and early, and most mornings I will go directly into what I call my “prayer chambers.”  In reality, it’s just a spare room, where the phone gets shut off, and there are NO interruptions. God gets my undivided attention.

But on this particular morning, I jumped out of bed to run to the gym. I had a plan; I wanted to beat the crowd and get back home.

As I was getting up I heard these words; “What about Me?”

You see, it means a lot to God when we take time out for Him. Our time together is more important to Him than beating the crowd to the gym. He wants to know what’s more important to us.

He doesn’t want anything or anyone to come before Him. Not the gym, not our job, our children, not even our church ministry, not our finances, not our friends and the pressure to go out and have fun times with them. Nothing can come before Him.

Let’s focus this year on loving God most and putting Him first by being sensitive to what He wants for us.

Let Him be our God. Amen.

Bible Verse of The Day – 1-3-15

Romans 1:16 (NKJV) 16 For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ, for it is the power of God to salvation for everyone who believes, for the Jew first and also for the Greek.

The gospel of Christ.

It is this life-saving gospel that has brought millions upon millions to repentance over the centuries.

If you are a Christian, a follower of Christ, it is only because of the gospel of Christ that you can say so.

It is only because of the gospel of Christ that you can lay claim to freedom from sin and death.

It is only because of the gospel of Christ that we came to be aware of our sinful condition and asked for God’s forgiveness, putting our faith and trust in Him.

And it is only because of the gospel of Christ that we have freedom in this life, leading us to a life forever with our Creator.

The gospel of Christ is powerful and life-changing.

Let Him change your life today, too. Amen

Bible Verse of The Day – 1-2-15

Revelation 1:8 (NKJV) 8 “I am the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End, ”says the Lord, “who is and who was and who is to come, the Almighty.”

We don’t need to be afraid of anything today.

Our Father is the Alpha and the Omega!! He has given us what we need to defeat any giant that stands against what He is trying to do in us or through us.

He has given us wisdom, power and might through the name of His Son, Jesus Christ, and we can do what He calls us to do.

Philippians 4:13 (NKJV) 13 I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.

Even though we may know there are things we need to do, it doesn’t necessarily mean we can just start doing them right away. We need to get ready first, through training and preparation. Don’t just jump in head first. Let it happen in God’s time and in God’s way.

Do we think that David took out the giant with his own might, strength and knowhow?

1 Samuel 17:45 (NKJV) 45 Then David said to the Philistine, “You come to me with a sword, with a spear, and with a javelin. But I come to you in the name of the Lord of hosts, the God of the armies of Israel, whom you have defied.

No. David came to him in the name of the Lord, the One who taught him and trained him. David was being trained to fight this giant while doing what he was supposed to be doing in the fields, tending the flocks. His everyday stuff.

God taught Him, first, how to trust Him, by delivering him from his enemy, right on his job! So when it came time to fight the giant, he was ready and prepared. He had a knowing and a trust in the Lord because He had seen it for himself, firsthand.

1 Samuel 17:37 Moreover David said, “The Lord, who delivered me from the paw of the lion and from the paw of the bear, He will deliver me from the hand of this Philistine.”

Being teachable is a big part of learning how to take out the giants in our lives. As we listen, and obey God, we experience it firsthand and it becomes a way of living!! Amen.

Bible Verse of The Day – 1-1-15

John 16:33 (NKJV) These things I have spoken to you, that in Me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation; but be of good cheer, I have overcome the world.”

We are so blessed to be God’s children. What a good Father He is to us. Having God’s peace is the one thing that gets us through the toughest of tough times.

Without it, situations and circumstances can be hard, difficult and uncomfortable to deal with.

We could be going through a very hard time right now, and maybe some of us are. What we need to do is get the peace of God working in us to calm the storm.

The first thing we need to do is draw close to Him, by praying, reading His word and listening. When we pray, tell Him how we feel and what we are going through. Then ask for forgiveness for the things we may have done to contribute to the problem.

Ask Him for His Peace. His peace will help guide us through. It will help us make good decisions, not decisions out of anxiousness.

Philippians 4:7 (NKJV) 7 and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.

Now that we’ve shared it with Him, we rest by trusting Him to show us the way.

Matthew 11:28 (NKJV) 28 Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.
