Bible Verse of The Day – 10-30-23

1 Corinthians 9:24 (NKJV) 24 Do you not know that those who run in a race all run, but one receives the prize? Run in such a way that you may obtain it.

Athletes in training must be extremely disciplined if they expect to compete seriously.

Their discipline must be consistent if they hope to reach peak condition for their respective undertaking. Anything less than 100% effort on their part will hamper their efforts to win, causing them to bring on their own defeat.

For many who are professional athletes, this is a decades long endeavor. They can never back down, never relax their standards.

It takes serious dedication to maintain this type of mindset.

And so it should be with us regarding our walk with God.

It is important that we keep our eye on the prize, learning to shut out all the noise and distractions that come our way each day.

Many things will vie for our attention. We can easily fall prey to these things if we don’t stay on top of our game.

And if an athlete can do this, if they can stay disciplined for an earthly prize, how much more should we give our absolute best effort for a prize that is eternal?

1 Corinthians 9:25 (NKJV) 25 And everyone who competes for the prize is temperate in all things. Now they do it to obtain a perishable crown, but we for an imperishable crown.

We want to remind you today to keep your eye on the prize that is before you!

This life is not always easy. In fact, it can be downright difficult at times.

But God has told us that in Christ we can do all things.

He has gone before us. He has shown us by example. And He has sent us a Helper, the Holy Spirit, to walk us through each step that we need to take.

So, keep your eye on the prize! Fix your eyes upon Jesus and don’t look to the left or the right.

Push through those difficult times, knowing that the end game is not about a gold, silver or bronze trophy, but an eternal crown of life.

We can’t do it alone. But in Him we can do whatever God has placed before us to do.

Philippians 4:13 (NKJV) 13 I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.

Bible Verse of The Day – 2-13-16

1 Corinthians 9:24 (NKJV) 24 Do you not know that those who run in a race all run, but one receives the prize? Run in such a way that you may obtain it.

Do we receive our diploma if we drop out of school and never take the final exam? If we are in a race and we give up before we reach the finish line, do we still receive a medal? Of course not.

We must always finish what we start and give it our all, or there is no prize and no reward.

Some people think that they can go on this journey with Christ and when things get hard, temptation comes, tiredness sets in, boredom or whatever else may try to come, they can just back out.

That is not how we obtain the prize.

We run in this race with all that we have and if what we have isn’t enough, we ask Him to help us with the rest.

There is no giving up or pulling out. If we want to obtain our prize, we have to hang in there and push through. We are in it for the long haul.

We will reach the finish line if we don’t give up! Amen.

Bible Verse of The Day – 1-6-15

1 Corinthians 9:24 (NKJV) 24 Do you not know that those who run in a race all run, but one receives the prize? Run in such a way that you may obtain it.

We are all running in a race.

We have our eye set on the prize, or at least we should have our eye set on the prize, our eternal home in heaven with our Creator.

God’s word tells us to run in such a way that we may obtain it!

So let’s look at something for a minute. Have you ever watched people running a race and one of them suddenly falls down? I would dare say that any of us who has ever watched any kind of race has seen someone fall. It just happens.

But what did you see next? Did that runner just lay there and let the race finish as they laid there?

Absolutely not! They got up and ran even harder, to try and make up for the time they lost while they were down. And most times you will hear the crowd cheer them on to try to encourage them to catch up with the rest of the runners.

Stuff happens in all our lives. We move ahead and then something comes along that knocks us down or pushes us backwards. None of us likes it, but it’s just a part of life.

The question, though, is “what will we do when we’ve fallen?”. Will we stay down and roll around in the dirt a little? Or will we get up, brush ourselves off and then move forward again?

Well, if we follow God’s leading, we won’t just get back up. We’ll get back up and run hard, in such a way that we may still obtain the prize.

Just as that crowd cheers for the runner who has fallen and gotten back up, so God is encouraging us when we fall and then get back up, to keep our eye on the prize and run in such a way that we may obtain it.
