Bible Verse of The Day – 5-19-16

Leviticus 19:31 (NKJV) 31 ‘Give no regard to mediums and familiar spirits; do not seek after them, to be defiled by them: I am the Lord your God.

Mediums. Fortune tellers, tarot card readers, palm readers, etc.

They’ve been around for thousands of years. They act as conduits, channels, between the natural world and the spirit world.

Many people consult these people for various reasons. Some people seek to know their future. Some want to communicate with the dead. Some want advice or counsel. Others want help solving a problem. Some might even deem it to be entertainment.

Whatever the reason people use mediums, they are not of God. Yes, they are spiritual, but they operate under the wrong spirit.

God warns us to stay away from such types of people. We are not to consult them, ask them for anything or use their services in any way, shape or form. We are not even to dabble with this kind of thing.

As believers, God says we are defiled by them. To defile someone or something means to make it foul, unclean, impure or dirty.

It’s time for the children of God to stop dabbling with these kinds of evil spirits. Yes, they are evil. And millions are being led astray by them each and every day, through daily horoscopes, palm readings, etc.

God uses some pretty strong words when speaking to those who consult such people.

Leviticus 20:6 (NKJV) 6 ‘And the person who turns to mediums and familiar spirits, to prostitute himself with them, I will set My face against that person and cut him off from his people.

People of God, turn away from these things. They are unholy and will defile you!

The only spirit we should be seeking is the Spirit of God, the Holy Spirit.

Bible Verse of The Day – 5-18-16

Philippians 4:6 (NKJV) 6 Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God;

This is a topic we tend to cover quite frequently. And there’s a good reason for that.

Each and every one of us goes through trials and hard times. It doesn’t matter if it’s a financial trial, a health problem, a relationship crisis or anything else that might come along that’s difficult.

Whatever it is, it can cause us to become scared, anxious and overwhelmed if we get our focus on the problem instead of the One who can help us through that problem.

When we focus solely on the obstacle we’re facing, it makes that obstacle seem much bigger than it really is. Why? Because if that’s all we’re looking at, we can’t see anything else.

And as we focus on that obstacle, we begin to worry. And the more we worry, the bigger that problem grows in our minds. And before we know it, we have blown it so far out of proportion that it seems insurmountable.

Now we’re not only anxious, we’re also consumed with worries. And as we worry more, we begin to conjure up all kinds of possible scenarios in our minds as to how this might all turn out. And each new scenario gets worse and worse.

Worrying never, ever helps us. Not a single little bit.

Matthew 6:27 (NKJV) 27 Which of you by worrying can add one cubit to his stature?

So let’s stop focusing on the obstacle or the problem and focus on the One who holds us in His hand and has the answer to every problem we face.

We need to put Him first in everything. He comes before our problems. He comes before our concerns. He comes before our triumphs.

Be anxious for nothing!

Bible Verse of The Day – 5-17-16

Romans 1:17 (NKJV) 17 For in it the righteousness of God is revealed from faith to faith; as it is written, “The just shall live by faith.”

The closer we get to God, the more faith we will have when He asks us to take certain steps. Our faith will grow and become stronger and stronger as we spend time with Him.

The just shall live by faith. Who are the just?

The just are His children; those who have put their faith in His Son, Jesus Christ. We are the just and this is what we should live by…faith.

Everyone is at a different place in their walk with God. He will show us what steps we need to take at different times in our lives.

We can’t take your steps for you and you can’t take ours for us. God will show us individually what He wants us to do and it’s up to us if we want to step out in faith and do it or not.

Sometimes these steps can be very hard. Sometimes they may even seem almost unbearable. But if we trust in God to see it through we will be so grateful that we took the steps He asked us to take.

If you feel like God is leading you today to take a step of faith in an area of your life, make sure it’s Him. And if it is, then step out. Don’t be afraid. He will walk with you.

Bible Verse of The Day – 5-16-16

Jeremiah 29:12 (NKJV) 12 Then you will call upon Me and go and pray to Me, and I will listen to you.

What an AWESOME Father we have, to know that we can call upon Him and He will listen.

Are we talking to Him today? Are we calling upon His mighty name and trusting Him for our answers?

God is ready and listening for our voice.

Our time with God will determine how our days, our month and our year will turn out.

Maybe today we’ve realized that we’ve gotten so busy that everything has been pulling on us and taking up all our time, causing us to stop talking with God.  It happens!

Fixing the problem can be as simple as putting on the brakes and getting back with Him. Tell Him we miss Him and we need His touch. Ask Him for forgiveness for getting so busy and to help get focused on those things that really matter.

Our lives can get way out of control and busy. There is no doubt. Sometimes we need to force ourselves to shut off our phone, turn off Facebook or the computer, shut our blinds and lock our doors and take the time we need and talk with Him.

Bible Verse of The Day – 5-14-16

Matthew 11:29 (NKJV) 29 Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.

Jesus wants us to learn from Him. He walked on this earth for many reasons, one of which was to set an example for us to follow in our own lives.

One of the things we should learn from Him is humility. Being humble is something that can bring us very far in our lives.

Being humble means that we don’t always have to be right.

Being humble means that we remain teachable, no matter how high we climb on the ladder of success.

Being humble means admitting when we’re wrong.

Being humble means we’re willing to say we’re sorry.

And being humble means that we learn to put others before ourselves.

There are so many other things we can learn from Jesus. But if we can learn humility, the rest of those things will come even more easily.

Bible Verse of The Day – 5-13-16

Romans 12:2 (NKJV) 2 And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.

Staying in God’s word will keep us strong and alert.

His Spirit and truth will lead us and we will be ready and well equipped for whatever comes our way. We won’t be worrying all the time. We won’t be afraid or nervous when changes come our way. We will rest more and be at peace as we learn that God is faithful!

Renewing our mind through God’s word will change our attitude and the way we carry ourselves. It will help us to make wiser decisions. It will help us to have better control over our mouths and thoughts. And our habits will become cleaner.

Change will come to our minds and our hearts as we spend time in God’s word.

Bible Verse of The Day – 5-12-16

Ephesians 5:31 (NKJV) 31 “For this reason a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh.”

A husband and wife are meant to be “one flesh”. There are many implications in this. But today we’re going to touch base on the “physical” side of it.

The sexual intimacy between a husband and wife is a very important part of their relationship. As the two share times of physical intimacy and pleasure, the Bible says they become one flesh.

It’s important that this physical side of the relationship never be overlooked or made to seem less important than any other part of the marriage. This doesn’t mean that every couple should share physical intimacy in the same way, the same number of times or anything similar.

It means that each couple will need to put effort into building and maintaining their sexual relationship, so it doesn’t become the “weak link” in their marriage.

Part of this means making sure we’re satisfying each other sexually. As with the other aspects of a marriage, we need to make sure that we’re both giving 100% in the sexual part of the union.

So we need to be careful that we’re not ignoring the needs of our spouse.

1 Corinthians 7:5 (NKJV) 5 Do not deprive one another except with consent for a time, that you may give yourselves to fasting and prayer; and come together again so that Satan does not tempt you because of your lack of self-control.

And this applies to both the husband and the wife! We both need to respect each other and work together to create a sex life that’s satisfying for both people. It’s all about compromise and respect, just as the other parts of a relationship.

Many people get uncomfortable talking about this kind of thing. But it’s important that we don’t ignore it and put our relationship in jeopardy simply because it’s “uncomfortable”.

We urge married couples to take the time to work at every part of your marriage relationship, including the sexual part!

Bible Verse of The Day – 5-11-16

Matthew 19:21 (NKJV) 21 Jesus said to him, “If you want to be perfect, go, sell what you have and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven; and come, follow Me.”

A giving heart, a heart that does not hold on to things, but is willing to give up all and follow Christ. A heart that finds its stability and fulfillment in Christ alone; This is the kind of heart that Jesus looks forward to developing in us each day. He calls it perfect.

Following Jesus may require us to make big sacrifices at times. The best thing we can do is let God prepare our hearts so that nothing comes between us and Him.

If Jesus is asking us today to let go of something, don’t waste time stewing over it.

Pray and ask Him to help us let it go. We will have much more fulfillment in following Him than whatever that thing could ever offer. Amen

Bible Verse of The Day – 5-10-16

Psalm 16:11 (NKJV) 11 You will show me the path of life; In Your presence is fullness of joy; At Your right hand are pleasures forevermore.

Being in God’s presence is something that too few of us experience very often. Yet, it’s being in His presence that allows us to grow and mature as a believer.

It’s being in His presence that allows us to experience the fullness of His joy.

It’s being in His presence that shapes us and molds us into the person He wants us to become.

And it’s being in His presence that teaches us humility and the power of surrendering ourselves to Him.

Being in His presence doesn’t require us to be in a specific place, such as a church building, a prayer room or anywhere else special. It only requires that we shut out everything around us for a time and allow Him to speak to us as we minister to Him.

We can be alone, with nobody else around us. Or we can get alone with Him, even in the midst of others, and experience His presence.

In His presence, our lives are changed forever. In His presence we come to understand Him in ways we never thought possible.

And in His presence we find that peace that surpasses all understanding, that we can carry with us throughout our lives.

Once we’ve spent time in His presence, our lives should never, ever be the same again.

Bible Verse of The Day – 5-9-16

Proverbs 3:5-6 (NKJV) 5 Trust in the Lord with all your heart, And lean not on your own understanding; 6 In all your ways acknowledge Him, And He shall direct your paths.

We’d like to share a little story with you that came from one of our longtime readers, friends and supporters..

So many times, when someone comes to us with financial trouble, our first instinct is to give to them, in order to get them through their trouble. But we have learned that this is not always the answer.

We’ve learned over the years that, many times, the best way to help them for the long term is to teach them to give out of their need. As they give, this teaches them how to trust God with their finances and sets them on a path of lifelong provision.

So, here is the AWESOME testimony from that couple who was in this very situation several years ago:

“Our first question my husband and I had was, “do we tithe on the gross income or what we take home?” And Pastor Curt’s reply to us was, it can be either, whatever we feel God wants us to do. We decided it will be whatever comes into the house.

So we started giving 10% of all money that came into our house to Seven Seas Ministries. It wasn’t much at first, but we stuck with it.

I remember that first end of the year statement we got. It may not have been much, but I felt so wonderful that we stuck to it and were able to help someone else.

We always seemed to have just enough money to tithe and get by. Slowly, my husband would get a raise or have a bunch of overtime, and I would get a raise or a better paying job. As we got more, we gave more.

A few years ago, Pastors Curt and Ellie directed my husband and me to make a “wish list”, a list of the things that we would like for God to do in our lives.

I remember a few things on that list. To have my A/C in my car fixed (or a new car), my husband added a flat screen TV and a new recliner (his recliner was a hand me down from his dad) and I put….”to be able to give abundantly”.

About 4 years ago we got our flat screen!! Last year I got a job 10 minutes from home that paid well; this enabled us to get a new (fuel efficient) car. Last Christmas I was able to buy a new recliner for my husband. And the best part is that when I did our taxes this year, I tallied up the tithing and all of our various donations throughout the year and it showed that we gave ABUNDANTLY!

I cannot put into words, the feeling that we get from not only being able to give out of obedience to God, but to know that we are helping so many others that are now where we once were. “In God We Trust!!””

If you are struggling with your finances, we encourage you, today, to take a step of faith and follow the example of this couple. As their testimony said, they started out small, and God helped them grow to be able to “give abundantly”!
