Bible Verse of The Day – 2-17-23

Deuteronomy 5:32-33 (NKJV) 32 “Therefore you shall be careful to do as the Lord your God has commanded you; you shall not turn aside to the right hand or to the left. 33 You shall walk in all the ways which the Lord your God has commanded you, that you may live and that it may be well with you, and that you may prolong your days in the land which you shall possess.

If we look at these two verses, we can see that they are a formula for success, handed directly from Moses to the Israelites.

The success he was steering them toward was not what most people would view as ordinary, everyday success. It was, however, a “recipe” for a successful walk with God.

Inside of this recipe were some key ingredients that were necessary for the formula to “work properly”.

The liability for all this working as intended was squarely on the shoulders of the individuals.

They should “be careful to do as the Lord their God had commanded them”.

They needed to heed His instructions, endeavoring in their hearts to follow what He had told them as closely as possible, being careful not to stray to the left or the right.

If they walked “in all the ways which the Lord their God had commanded”, He promised that all would be well with them, and that they would prolong their days in the land which He had promised them.

God wanted their hearts to desire to do the right things; the things that pleased Him.

And this is what He asks of us today.

He simply wants our whole hearts; nothing more and nothing less.

He desires us to put Him first in everything, seeking Him wholeheartedly.

He wants us to burn with passion for our relationship with Him.

If we can burn with passion for a carnal, earthly relationship, why can’t we burn with passion for our relationship with the One who created us and gave us the breath of life?

Let us all ponder on this and then take whatever actions are necessary to make it happen.

Amen.

Bible Verse of The Day – 2-16-23

Proverbs 22:6 (NKJV) 6 Train up a child in the way he should go, And when he is old he will not depart from it.

How do we train them up in this world we live in today?

First and foremost, our children need to hear our voices. They need us more than we know. They are longing for their God-loving parents to sit them down and tell them the truth.

They need to hear the truth about God, His Son and how they have a Helper, the Holy Spirit.

They need to understand the truth about life; how it can be very hard at times, but also full of joy and victory as well.

And they need to learn the truth about the devil and what he has purposed in his heart to do; to steal, kill and destroy anyone he can.

John 10:10 (NKJV) 10 The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly.

Teach them how they are to resist him, and when they do, he will run.

James 4:7 (NKJV) 7 Therefore submit to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you.

Teach them how to pray and stand on their own two feet. For we are not always there with them, but God is everywhere!

They need to be taught by us being an example.

The school systems won’t teach them how to survive an enemy or a thief. Their friends won’t teach them. Social media will confuse them.

But as their parents who love them dearly, and will do anything for them, we are responsible to protect and train them up.

They need truth and it needs to be planted in them. They need to be reminded and taught continually about the things of God. Even if they say, “I’ve heard it a thousand times,” we say, “good, then what’s one more?”.

Our children need to be strong; the truth needs to be embedded in them.

Don’t give up, parents. We can’t be tired now. Stand up and fight for their lives.

Matthew 19:14 (NKJV) 14 But Jesus said, “Let the little children come to Me, and do not forbid them; for of such is the kingdom of heaven.”

We bring them to Jesus by showing them the way.

Bible Verse of The Day – 2-15-23

Deuteronomy 31:12 (NKJV) 12 Gather the people together, men and women and little ones, and the stranger who is within your gates, that they may hear and that they may learn to fear the Lord your God and carefully observe all the words of this law,

One of the things that’s often misunderstood, or purposely ignored, is the phrase, “fear the Lord”.

Why?

Because it might be difficult for some to accept. It is not, after all, warm and fuzzy to contemplate.

The word, “fear”, conjures up images of something or someone threatening harm to others.

The fear of the Lord is very misunderstood. And this is the root cause of people avoiding it like the plague.

Fearing God does not mean that we are terrified of Him.

It doesn’t mean that we live in fear of terrible retribution for anything we might do wrong.

Fear, in the Biblical sense, means legitimate, sincere reverence.

Yes, there is still an element of fear in the traditional sense. He is, after all, the Creator of everything we see. He is more powerful than anything else that has ever, or will ever, exist.

But if we are covered by the blood of Christ, we have nothing to fear.

Having the blood of Christ over our lives is akin to the blood that was painted on the door posts of the Israelites in Egypt, protecting them from the plague of death that passed through Egypt, killing the firstborn of all the Egyptians.

God asks us to live our lives in a way that pleases Him. He does not, however, threaten to kill us if we don’t live up to His standards.

With that said, it’s important that we learn to fear God, passing that understanding down from generation to generation by teaching our children and grandchildren what it means.

It is this understanding that leads people into reverence, and ultimately obedience, as they develop a desire to please Him in all they do.

Bible Verse of The Day – 2-14-23

Malachi 3:10 (NKJV) 10 Bring all the tithes into the storehouse, That there may be food in My house, And try Me now in this,” Says the Lord of hosts, “If I will not open for you the windows of heaven And pour out for you such blessing That there will not be room enough to receive it.

God offers us a great opportunity in this verse to see Him move.

You see, if we really understood what it means to tithe to God, we would not even think about not giving to Him.

He is amazingly detailed oriented. He is Omniscient, meaning He knows everything!

This means that He knows what we do with everything that He blesses us with, including our finances.

Some have gotten promotions. Some people have been blessed in other ways of receiving finances. And He watches to see what we will do with it.

Will we put Him first, before we dip into it? Or will we just go about doing whatever we feel we want to do with it, and tie it up with other obligations?

We have to remember that once it’s gone, it’s gone. It’s very hard to get it back.

What we do with our money is completely up to us. God gives us free will to choose. But we need to know that we will reap from our decisions.

We need to understand that God wants the very best for His children. But we can tie His hands in helping us if we don’t obey.

What father or mother would bless their child for their disobedience?

If we disobey God with our finances, why would He reward or keep blessing us if we are not listening?

Give all of our tithes to Him and let Him turn our situation around.

He is faithful, but we must obey HIs instructions in order for Him to follow through in His “pouring out”.  Amen.

Bible Verse of The Day – 2-13-23

Philippians 4:8 (NKJV) 8 Finally, brethren, whatever things are true, whatever things are noble, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report, if there is any virtue and if there is anything praiseworthy – meditate on these things.

When I first ran across this verse over 40 years ago, it didn’t seem like a big deal to me. It didn’t seem difficult.

After all, the world was a different place then, and focusing on “good things” wasn’t hard to do.

Times have changed, though. We are now surrounded by and inundated with news of evil happenings every day.

Even if we don’t turn on the TV to watch the news, we are still able to see what is happening all around us.

Sin is running rampant.

This can make it hard to meditate on the good things if we’re not careful.

We need to purposely push back the darkness and focus on God’s goodness if we hope to keep our minds from dwelling on what we see in the natural.

We need to allow God to help us see what’s happening, but keep our eyes fixed on Him.

This can be a monumental task at first, especially for some people who might tend to lean toward the negative side of things.

But God is faithful, and He is able to transform us, renewing our minds and teaching us how to follow the leading of the Holy Spirit, even in our thoughts.

Romans 12:2 (NKJV) 2 And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.

And it’s through this transformation that we will learn to take our thoughts captive, bringing those thoughts into captivity (surrender), teaching our minds to obey the leading of the Holy Spirit, and not falling prey to the enemy as he attacks our minds.

2 Corinthians 10:4-6 (NKJV) 4 For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal but mighty in God for pulling down strongholds, 5 casting down arguments and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God, bringing every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ, 6 and being ready to punish all disobedience when your obedience is fulfilled.

Find the things of God. Meditate on those things.

Bible Verse of The Day – 2-11-23

Jeremiah 31:3 (NKJV) 3 The Lord has appeared of old to me, saying: “Yes, I have loved you with an everlasting love; Therefore with lovingkindness I have drawn you.

He has drawn us. Not with harshness, not with rudeness, not with anger, not with guilt, not with pride or arrogance.

But what does this verse say He has drawn us with?

With lovingkindness. Because He loves us with an everlasting love.

This is a love that will change us.  A love that will touch us. A love that is everlasting. A love that is fulfilling and causes us to want to obey Him more than anything else.

This Hebrew word, kindness, according to my notes, conveys the concept of covenant loyalty, love and faithfulness. Betrothal.

Many may feel this drawing. And some may have ignored it at times, thinking they had to get themselves right before they say yes.

But, that is the exact opposite of what God wants for us.

When He draws us to Himself, we must not think we need to clean up before we go to Him. However, we must submit everything at His feet, repenting and letting Him chip away those things that need to go.

He is going to draw us.

Don’t say, “wait”. Say, “yes, take all of me and let me have all of You! Let us be as one, married and loyal to each other”.

Remember His words; “With My lovingkindness I am drawing you”!  Amen.

Bible Verse of The Day – 2-10-23

Proverbs 18:21 (NKJV) 21 Death and life are in the power of the tongue, And those who love it will eat its fruit.

Lining up with the Spirit of God, and obeying Him, will sometimes put us in places saying things or doing things that we never thought we would say or do to help someone who needs it badly.

God is love, so when we speak in and through His Spirit, it will always be done out of love and great concern.

If we hold a grudge against the person we are speaking to, the words won’t be as effective.

If we have unforgiveness in our hearts toward them, the words we speak won’t mean much.

If we are jealous toward them, and we try to speak words to help them, the words will carry no weight whatsoever.

Words are powerful when spoken through God’s love with humility and truth. They bring life. And those who love it will eat its fruit! The words will take root.

God can and will use our words when we empty ourselves of anger, bitterness, jealousy and unforgiveness. We need to understand that we are not perfect, and allow God to move us past our pain.

God knows what has soiled our hearts. And He knows what lingers and needs to be removed in order for us to be able to use  words to bring life into a situation.

The question is, will we allow Him to scan our hearts today and help us to be delivered and healed from the things that keep us from speaking words of life to those who need it?

Bible Verse of The Day – 2-9-23

1 Corinthians 1:3 (NKJV) 3 Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.

This verse is our prayer over you all today.

You have been so very faithful in your giving of yourself through prayer, through financial help and through encouragement.

God is surely good to have blessed us with such kind and compassionate people like yourselves.

He is doing a great work, and we know you have grown and changed through His counsel.

You are strong. You are caring. You are diligent and you are steadfast. Your face is set like a flint, for you know He is your help.

Isaiah 50:7 (NKJV) 7 “For the Lord God will help Me; Therefore I will not be disgraced; Therefore I have set My face like a flint, And I know that I will not be ashamed.

Praise be to God. Let His grace and peace fill you and the place you are in right now, and know that He loves you and He sees your obedient heart.

God bless you this day. Amen.

Bible Verse of The Day – 2-8-23

Mark 15:37-39 (NKJV) 37 And Jesus cried out with a loud voice, and breathed His last. 38 Then the veil of the temple was torn in two from top to bottom. 39 So when the centurion, who stood opposite Him, saw that He cried out like this and breathed His last, he said, “Truly this Man was the Son of God!”

When we left off yesterday, we had been discussing the veil of the temple.

In the verse above, we can see that the veil of the temple was torn in two upon Jesus breathing His last breath.

The significance of this is that the barrier between us and God had now been removed. We are no longer required to go through a priest to have access to God. He is now freely accessible to anyone who has become His child through faith in Christ.

Now, with all of that said, and with the importance of understanding the purity and holiness of God firmly established, let’s take it one step further.

As followers of Christ, His blood has washed us. Our sins have been forgiven.

And with the veil torn, we have unfettered access to God, with no fear of dying for approaching Him.

The word says that we can approach Him boldly, meaning that we can approach Him without fear.

Hebrews 4:16 (NKJV) 16 Let us therefore come boldly to the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need.

With all of that said, we still need to understand the importance of recognizing and honoring His purity and holiness.

We are not excused from that at all. But it seems that many have lost reverence for God and who He is; how holy and pure He is.

This is a dangerous proposition on the part of believers.

No, we’re not necessarily at risk of being struck down or dying.

But we need to honor God in every way.

Why? Because He is worthy of our honor. He is God. He is sovereign.

His holiness and purity are beyond our comprehension, as we mentioned in the first devotional in this series.

It behooves every one of us to pay attention to this and revere Him to the fullest.

We need to be careful not to become sloppy or flippant in this. And our goal should be to keep our attitudes and our lives in line with who He is, being cognizant of Him in everything we do, everything we say and everything we think.

This will come as we make the effort and spend the time to know Him more, day by day.

Amen

Bible Verse of The Day – 2-7-23

Exodus 20:19 (NKJV) 19 Then they said to Moses, “You speak with us, and we will hear; but let not God speak with us, lest we die.”

Yesterday, we began digging in and learning about the holiness of God. And we learned that it’s important for us to understand as much as we can about this.

The Israelites had come to understand that God’s holiness was something to be taken seriously, as evidenced by the scripture above.

Now, let’s move forward approximately 1400 years and take a look at this through the lens of the New Testament, and the blood of Christ.

You see, under the old covenant, animal sacrifices (blood sacrifices) were required to atone for the sins of the people.

Those sacrifices, and the priestly rituals, covered their sins and protected the people from God’s wrath.

But when Jesus arrived and began teaching, He began to allude to a different way, a new way of doing things.

Jesus angered the Jewish leadership of that day because of the things He said.

They didn’t understand it because they failed to see Him for who He was.

Jesus came to show us who God was. But He also came to die for our sins; yours and mine.

He shed His blood as the final, perfect sacrifice to atone for the sins of humanity.

Animal sacrifices would no longer be required.

At the moment of His death, the earth shook, and the veil of the temple was torn in two, from top to bottom.

This veil is intricately important in our walk with God.

Why?

Because it was the divider that separated the holy of holies from the inner temple, where God’s presence dwelt.

This veil was not what we might picture. It was not a flimsy, thin piece of cloth that could be seen through, like we might picture a wedding veil or something similar.

It was roughly 4 inches (10cm) thick, and up to 60 feet (18 meters) high. This was not easily disturbed or destroyed.

This veil had a purpose, and its construction helped it carry out that purpose without fail.

Let’s wrap this up tomorrow.
