Bible Verse of The Day – 10-27-25

James 4:6 (LSB) 6 But He gives a greater grace. Therefore it says, “God is opposed to the proud, but gives grace to the humble.”

The word of God is full of references to pride and the problems associated with it.

And there are many accompanying people in the Bible whose lives were destroyed by pride.

You see, pride leads to the fall of even the strongest believers if it is left unchecked.

Conversely, humility is rewarded.

The verse above states clearly that God opposes the proud but gives grace to those who are humble. That verse alone should be enough to have us running as far from pride as we can get.

But sometimes we fail to see our own pride.

Why?

Because pride can be very subtle. It creeps in and dwells in us without us knowing it or, at the very least, acknowledging it.

And there it makes a comfy home until we recognize it for the evil that it is, and we evict it.

We must learn to walk humbly before God.

James 4:10 (LSB) 10 Humble yourselves in the presence of the Lord, and He will exalt you.

We can see the contrast between humility and pride in the lives of King David and King Saul.

One had a heart after God. The other allowed himself to be consumed by pride.

One, David, was promised that his dynasty would be carried out for generations. The other, Saul, had the kingdom torn from him because of his pride and disobedience.

1 Samuel 15:28 (LSB) 28 So Samuel said to him, “Yahweh has torn the kingdom of Israel from you today and has given it to your neighbor, who is better than you.

Pride always precedes destruction.

Proverbs 16:18 (NKJV) 18 Pride goes before destruction, And a haughty spirit before a fall.

Let us humble ourselves under the mighty hand of God, that He might be exalted in our lives, and our pride be cast away from us all our days.
