Bible Verse of The Day – 10-5-18

James 4:10 (NKJV) 10 Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and He will lift you up.

Humble (verb): to lower yourself (or someone else) in dignity or importance

Being humble is a big part of surrendering. If we are to truly surrender ourselves to God, we can’t do so if we are proud or haughty. We can’t do so if we have a high opinion of ourselves.

God has to come first, and we have to put ourselves beneath Him. And in many cases, He will also ask us to put ourselves beneath others. We can’t serve someone that we think we are better than.

If we need a perfect example of humility, all we need to do is look at Jesus. He was humble in every aspect, even in surrendering His life willingly, knowing that He had the power to do otherwise.

Mark 10:45 (NKJV) 45 For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give His life a ransom for many.”

Pride is the opposite of what God has called us to. Pride is shameful and will keep us from fulfilling the call of God on our lives. Pride will destroy us if we don’t get a handle on it and remove it from our lives.

Proverbs 16:18 (NKJV) 18 Pride goes before destruction, And a haughty spirit before a fall.

So, if we desire to be lifted up, we need to let God be the One to do the lifting. He has promised to do so if we will just humble ourselves.

And when God does something, He does it right the first time. Amen

Bible Verse of The Day – 3-16-18

Matthew 18:4 (NKJV) 4 Therefore whoever humbles himself as this little child is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven.

Who will be the greatest in the kingdom of heaven?

This is a question that the disciples asked Jesus. They were trying to figure out which of them would be the greatest.

Wow! When Jesus heard their question, He wasted no time in putting them in their places and setting the record straight!

Jesus had them bring a small child to Him. He told the disciples that whoever humbles themselves like a little child will be the greatest in the kingdom of heaven. This was definitely not what they had expected to hear.

God and man think differently. Man looks at outward things, while God looks at inward things.

We see accomplishments, while God sees our heart and its motives.

Humility is a hard thing for many of us. We have a tough time getting past our own skills, talents and accomplishments. But we need to remember that it was God himself who gave us those very same skills and talents!

Without Him, we can do nothing.

John 15:5 (NKJV) 5 “I am the vine, you are the branches. He who abides in Me, and I in him, bears much fruit; for without Me you can do nothing.

It’s important that we keep God first. He will teach us to be humble in everything that we do.

Bible Verse of The Day – 3-20-17

John 6:15 (NKJV) 15 Therefore when Jesus perceived that they were about to come and take Him by force to make Him king, He departed again to the mountain by Himself alone.

Jesus came for one reason; to serve.

During His time here on earth, Jesus never once demanded that anyone serve Him or hold Him up as royalty. Instead, He would always serve others. He proved this when He chose to wash the feet of the disciples right before He was arrested and taken away to be beaten and then crucified.

In John 6:15 Jesus had just fed a multitude of people in a very miraculous way. The people saw this and they had it in their hearts and minds to make Him their earthly king. They were determined to do this, even if it meant doing so forcibly.

But because Jesus knew His purpose here on earth, He quietly slipped away so He could be alone.

As always, Jesus set such an incredible example for us. Despite being God in the flesh, He humbled Himself and served those He encountered. He loved people, including us, in spite of faults and evil intentions.

There is no doubt that He had moments when He stood up and spoke boldly when it was needed. He had no problem separating black from white… evil from good. But He always chose to love above all things.

How about us? Do we choose to love and pull away to a quiet place if someone tries to exalt us? Or do we get caught up in it and bask in the glory for ourselves?

Humility is a hard thing sometimes. Pride can catch us off guard if we’re not careful.

But as we grow and mature as a believer, humility will overtake our pride. And we will soon be acting more and more like Jesus, shunning the spotlight and pulling away to spend time alone with our Father.

Bible Verse of The Day – 9-9-16

Numbers 14:24 But My servant Caleb, because he has a different spirit in him and has followed Me fully, I will bring into the land where he went, and his descendants shall inherit it.

God mentioned above that Caleb had a different spirit. The difference in Caleb’s spirit was that he recognized his own weakness and yet had no problem believing that His God would give them victory over the giants in that land.

He knew that God wanted them to possess the land, and no matter what it took, it would be the way God said it would be.

That’s the difference in spirit.

What were the other men saying? “We can’t, they are too big, it’s not for us.” They were weak, full of doubt and looking for sympathy.

Even though they looked like they were afraid and scared, in reality they were full of pride. They thought, “if we can’t do it, comprehend it or see that it’s possible, then we need to dismiss it”. They thought that if they couldn’t do it by their own strength then it couldn’t be done. They left God completely out of the equation!

That is full-blown pride right there. Because it’s in our weakness that God’s strength is made perfect. Acknowledging our weakness and letting God help us is the different spirit that God was referring to.

So many people miss out on the things God can do because of the different spirit, the spirit of pride that will dismiss the next step; The most important step. The step that involves humility and accepting God’s help.

Are we letting God’s strength be made perfect in our weakness today? Or do we dismiss something because we can’t figure it out intellectually?

It’s the humble, those who admit their weakness and allow God to help them through it, that will reach the promised land! Amen.

James 4:10 (NKJV) 10 Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and He will lift you up.

What is God showing us today? Are we admitting we can’t do it without Him? Are we willing to let Him teach us something outside of what we already know?

Let Him help us reach our promised land today by acknowledging that we need Him.

Bible Verse of The Day – 5-14-16

Matthew 11:29 (NKJV) 29 Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.

Jesus wants us to learn from Him. He walked on this earth for many reasons, one of which was to set an example for us to follow in our own lives.

One of the things we should learn from Him is humility. Being humble is something that can bring us very far in our lives.

Being humble means that we don’t always have to be right.

Being humble means that we remain teachable, no matter how high we climb on the ladder of success.

Being humble means admitting when we’re wrong.

Being humble means we’re willing to say we’re sorry.

And being humble means that we learn to put others before ourselves.

There are so many other things we can learn from Jesus. But if we can learn humility, the rest of those things will come even more easily.

Bible Verse of The Day – 4-25-16

Micah 6:8 (NKJV) 8 He has shown you, O man, what is good; And what does the Lord require of you but to do justly, To love mercy, And to walk humbly with your God?

To walk humbly with your God. Now that is something that each and every one of us should be pursuing.

Walking humbly is the key to growing in our relationship with Him. For with humility, we remain teachable and are willing to admit our failures and shortcomings.

With humility, we listen to those who are wiser than us and learn from the things they share with us.

With humility, we are never too old or too wise to learn something new.

And with humility, we grow to understand that the world doesn’t revolve around us, our wants and desires. But that others are important and deserve our time and attention.

And with humility, we grow to understand that God comes first in everything.

Proverbs 22:4 (NKJV) 4 By humility and the fear of the Lord Are riches and honor and life.

Bible Verse of The Day – 1-5-16

Psalm 37:11 (NKJV) 11 But the meek shall inherit the earth, And shall delight themselves in the abundance of peace.

Meek does not mean weak!

We want to make sure that everyone understands the difference between meek and weak.

meek: having or showing a quiet and gentle nature: not wanting to fight or argue with other people

Notice that it says nothing about being weak?

Similar words might be “humble” or “unpretentious”. Again, nothing about being weak.

Jesus was meek. He was humble and avoided conflict, yet He was the epitome of power and authority!

Jesus taught His disciples to exercise restraint when it came to conflict with others. He set the example by using the power of words and the power of the Holy Spirit to do battle in the spirit realm. But He never battled In the natural. Not once.

He rebuked Peter when he cut off the ear of one of the soldiers who came to take Him captive, just prior to His crucifixion.

And yet, while teaching us to be meek, He also promised that we would receive power.

Luke 24:49 (NKJV) 49 Behold, I send the Promise of My Father upon you; but tarry in the city of Jerusalem until you are endued with power from on high.”

As followers of Christ, we are to be meek (humble), but powerful. We are to be strong but not overbearing, obnoxious or confrontational.

Our battles are to be fought in the spirit realm, not in the natural.

2 Corinthians 10:3-4 (NKJV) 3 For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war according to the flesh. 4 For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal but mighty in God for pulling down strongholds…

So let’s remember; meek does not mean weak. And the power that we have been given is to be used to battle the spiritual forces of darkness, to defeat the enemy and his demons.

Bible Verse of The Day – 12-8-15

Proverbs 3:5-6 (NKJV) 5 Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding; 6 In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct your paths.

In all your ways, acknowledge Him.

That’s a section of these verses that seems to get skipped over too often, while people focus on the first of the two verses.

The words “in all your ways acknowledge Him” are just as important as the rest of them, since acknowledging Him (submitting ourselves to Him) is critical to Him being able to direct our paths and bless us.

We spend so much time “chasing after God” and trying to put all the pieces of this great puzzle together. And in doing so, we tend to make things so much more complicated than they need to be.

God is big. There’s no doubt about that. And the things He does are intricately woven, which can make them seem very complicated. But as we begin to submit ourselves to Him, and humble ourselves, we will see His grace working in our lives.

Proverbs 3:34 (NKJV) 34 Surely He scorns the scornful, But gives grace to the humble.

This doesn’t mean that we can’t ask God questions, or that we have to understand everything about Him. But it means that no matter what comes our way, we can humble ourselves before Him and trust Him, even when we might not understand everything that’s going on.

That is true humility.

And humility is the key to growing in God and seeing our lives take shape as a believer.

Bible Verse of The Day – 10-30-15

Proverbs 18:12 (NKJV) 12 Before destruction the heart of a man is haughty, and before honor is humility.

Humility.

Without it, we can’t be saved. It takes humbling ourselves and admitting our need for God’s grace, mercy and salvation in order to receive it.

Without it, we can never be the person who God wants us to be. It takes humility to admit that we have faults and we need God to help us correct those faults.

Without it, we will continue to live in sinful ways. We need to be humble to allow the Holy Spirit to convict us of our sins and let Him show us where and how to change.

Without it, we will live a life full of unforgiveness against others. It takes being humble to admit that we are sometimes wrong and we need to forgive others when they do wrong to us.

Humility will lead us into God’s arms. Pride, the opposite of humility, will lead us away from His arms, and into the arms of the enemy, if we’re not careful.

We all need to seek God and ask Him to show us where we have pride in our lives, and ask Him to help us remove it so we can draw closer to Him.

Bible Verse of The Day – 12-11-14

1 Peter 5:6 (NKJV) 6 Therefore humble yourselves under the mighty hand of God, that He may exalt you in due time…

Going back to a time in our lives when it was a season of financial decrease, there was a job opportunity that came knocking on our door. We were excited about the offer! Although, the more we prayed about it, the more we felt like it was not for us. Why God, Why?

So do we just stop praying and push through, taking the job offer that we think is perfect for us? Well, I guess we could have, but instead we did choose to humble ourselves and do it God’s way.

Too many times we have tried to do it our way and too many times it has come back to bite us.

We were in a situation where this job would have helped us out a lot, no doubt about that. We thought it would have brought stability, and it definitely would have. But It was not the answer to our prayer. It was not what God had for us at this time and this season in our life.

It was a hard thing to refuse that job, and our logical thinking was puzzled over it, but in our spirit man we knew it was what God wanted us to do.

It wasn’t until months later, we realized that if we had taken that position, we would have ruined great opportunities that were meant for us and It would have taken up all our time and energy.

Be careful when choosing the door to walk through. It is not always the one we think it might be. We need to be prayerful and humble ourselves under the mighty hand of God.

Bible Verse of The Day – 9-17-14

Jeremiah 9 :23,24 (NKJV) Thus says the Lord: “Let not the wise man glory in his wisdom, Let not the mighty man glory in his might, nor let the rich man glory in his riches; 24 But let him who glories glory in this, That he understands and knows Me,That I am the Lord, exercising lovingkindness, judgment, and righteousness in the earth. For in these I delight,” says the Lord.

This is how God would like us to walk; humbled in Him. For in Him we are wise, in Him we are mighty and in Him we are rich!

We are so blessed! But that is not what he wants us to glory in. Instead, He is asking us to understand Him, to know Him and to walk every day in humility.

Only God can keep us humbled when we walk in such blessings, by staying tightly knitted to Him.

One day as I was praying, God spoke to me. He told me to stay close to Him. The exact words He used were “tightly knitted”.

He gave me an example of a husband and wife. As they sit close together on a couch or wherever it may be, nothing can squeeze in between them without being noticed. And the closer they get to each other, the more noticeable that thing is that’s trying to squeeze between them.

It is that way when we get close to God. We get so close, when we are  tightly knitted with Him, that anything trying to come in between us stands out quickly.

Get tightly knitted with Him today so that we may remain humble in all that He blesses us with.
