Bible Verse of The Day – 1-12-24

Isaiah 7:14 (NKJV) 14 Therefore the Lord Himself will give you a sign: Behold, the virgin shall conceive and bear a Son, and shall call His name Immanuel.

As we mentioned in Wednesday’s devotional, sometimes small details can make a big difference!

Sometimes those small details may not be obvious or easily spotted unless we have the right tools.

Good study Bibles can be super helpful when it comes to finding and digging deeper into these small nuggets of truth that often open whole new levels of understanding and revelation for us.

Let’s look at a huge nugget of understanding in the verse above that is also referenced in the New Testament (Matthew 1:23).

It is one word; Immanuel.

The verse above is a prophecy from Isaiah regarding the coming Messiah.

Isaiah proclaimed that a virgin would conceive and bear a Son, and His name shall be called Immanuel.

That doesn’t seem overly deep or meaningful until we dig a bit deeper.

The lights start to come on, so to speak, when we look more closely at the name, Immanuel.

Immanuel literally means, “God-with-us”.

Once we understand the enormity of this, we will begin to see some things in a whole new light.

It’s important that the Bible we use doesn’t translate this as “God is with us”. That is not the literal meaning of it.

“God with us” means that Jesus was literally God on earth, living, walking, and talking with the people.

When Jesus was here on earth, He was not a representative of God. He was God, with us.

Small changes in a translation, whether intentional or not, can make major differences in whether we learn the proper meaning of specific things.

And those things can seriously alter the doctrine that we learn and grow with.

Let’s be sure to allow God to show us His truth, and that we equip ourselves with the proper tools, that we may be “a worker who does not need to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth” (2 Timothy 2:15).

Amen

Bible Verse of The Day – 1-10-24

Mark 14:13 (NKJV) 13 And He sent out two of His disciples and said to them, “Go into the city, and a man will meet you carrying a pitcher of water; follow him.

It’s important to pay attention to the little things as we read and study God’s word.

Sometimes little details can give us greater insight into God’s word and a stronger faith in Him.

The verse above is an example of this.

Jesus instructed two of His disciples to go into the city and watch for a man carrying a pitcher of water.

Then He told them to follow that man.

Wait. Did you catch that?

Jesus told them to go into the city. That doesn’t seem like a big deal. But He then told them specifically to look for a man carrying a pitcher of water.

Now, that’s a serious detail that He could have known only if He was truly God in the flesh. It was purely prophetic.

But wait. Look at what He told them next.

He said that as they followed that man, he would lead them to a specific place.

Mark 14:14-15 (NKJV) 14 Wherever he goes in, say to the master of the house, ‘The Teacher says, “Where is the guest room in which I may eat the Passover with My disciples?” ’ 15 Then he will show you a large upper room, furnished and prepared; there make ready for us.”

“He will show you a large upper room, furnished and prepared.”

Now I am fully blown away.

First, a man carrying a pitcher. Then, a room, fully furnished and prepared.

This is not something minor.

It may not begin to compare to Him dying for us on the cross. It doesn’t come close to the blood that He willingly spilled for mankind, to offer us forgiveness and redemption.

But consider the ramifications of these smaller details.

His disciples must have seen this and been in awe of Him as they lived and walked with Him daily. It could only strengthen their faith in Him as they saw these kinds of things repeated many times.

So, let’s look at ourselves.

How can we, as Children of God, not have incredible faith in Him when we begin to see and recognize details like these?

These kinds of revelations and understanding should help us move beyond the basics, so we begin to see God for who He is in a much deeper way.

Again, this is not necessarily a deep mystery of God. But it is significant enough that we should pay attention to it.

Let’s take the time necessary to study and discover God’s word in a most detailed manner. And watch Him grow us and transform us in ways that we might never have imagined could happen.

Bible Verse of The Day – 1-8-24

2 Timothy 2:15 (NKJV) 15 Be diligent to present yourself approved to God, a worker who does not need to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.

The importance of staying in God’s word can’t be stressed nearly enough.

His word is the lifeblood that keeps us nourished and growing.

It is living, breathing and powerful.

Hebrews 4:12 (NKJV) 12 For the word of God is living and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit, and of joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.

And here’s a little something to meditate on; if a situation comes along that causes us to spend less time in His word than normal, we may begin to “lose our edge”. And it will likely happen more quickly than we might think.

If our time in His word decreases, we will begin to hunger after His word.

We will begin to long for our time in it. And we may even become frustrated with whatever it is that is robbing us of that time.

You see, His word helps us discern more quickly, more powerfully and more accurately.

His word fills our reservoir, so to speak. Without it we are empty and dry.

And His word is a weapon to be used against the onslaught of the enemy when he attacks us and tries to take us down.

1 Peter 5:8 (NKJV) 8 Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil walks about like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour.

So, let us do whatever is necessary to take back our time in His word, being sure to fight against anything that tries to steal that time from us.

The fight may not be easy, but we will never regret doing it.

Bible Verse of The Day – 3-22-21

Psalm 119:130 (NKJV) 130 The entrance of Your words gives light; It gives understanding to the simple.

God’s word is the single most important thing that we can partake of as a child of God.

His word feeds us, gives us wisdom, offers counsel, gives us understanding and does so much more for us as we take it in and apply it to our lives.

This simple scripture above sums it up perfectly, telling us that the entrance of His word gives light.

What this means is that it brings light to our minds and our spirits, allowing even the simple to understand things that would otherwise be incomprehensible to us.

This is why it’s so important for each and every one of us to spend time in His word. Whether we are a new believer or we have been a believer for many decades, we all need a daily infusion of His word.

It brings light into the darkness, truth that prevails over lies, freedom where there is bondage.

Here’s the key to all of this; we need to read it.

We need to determine within ourselves to set time aside each and every day to read it, take it in and let it speak to us by His Spirit.

This one thing will move us closer and closer to God, as we apply what we read to our hearts and to our daily lives as we walk them out here on earth.

We will never, ever be sorry for time spent in His word.

It’s important that we not neglect that precious gift, and that we are faithful in partaking of His word as often as we can.

In today’s video, “The Hidden Word”, we teach on the importance of hiding His word in our hearts.

We hope you’ll take a few minutes to give this a watch.

Bible Verse of The Day – 7-30-20

Hebrews 4:12 (NKJV) 12 For the word of God is living and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit, and of joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.

There is power in the word of God.

The entire Bible, the word of God, is for us to read, to learn from and to grow.

Through it, we get to see the character of our Heavenly Father, His Son Jesus Christ and the sweet Holy Spirit in the fullness of their unity, working together perfectly.

As we study Him through His word, we will grow in our reverence toward Him. We will change from the inside.

Our purpose for living will change, and our hearts will change as we begin to take on His desires.

Who wants to know what God is about on a personal level?

Read His words. We will see His heart, His character and His strong love for us. Learn of His firmness, His provision, and His way of guiding us. He is powerful, sharp, and He discerns the intents of our hearts!

2 Timothy 3:16-17 (NKJV) 16 All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, 17 that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work.

The Bible, the very word of God, is available for us all to pick up and read. And as we do, it will change our hearts, equip us and complete us.

Bible Verse of The Day – 7-21-20

Matthew 4:4 (NKJV) 4 But He answered and said, “It is written, ‘Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God.’

Putting God’s Word to work in our lives will keep our discernment sharp.

We will be in tune with His Spirit. He will keep us strong in areas where we are weak.

But we have to stay in His word. Even if it is just a little bit each day, it helps.

Isaiah 40:29 (NKJV) 29 He gives power to the weak, And to those who have no might He increases strength.

Now, how much time do we give Him in His word? Only we can be honest with ourselves and answer this question.

If we haven’t been giving Him time, then that is probably why we are struggling with restlessness, fear, worrying, and are always in a very frustrated state of mind.

Start today. Give Him some of our time.

Things will come together. He will bring encouragement and stand with us in all that life throws at us.

Deuteronomy 20:4 (NKJV) 4 for the Lord your God is He who goes with you, to fight for you against your enemies, to save you.’

Bible Verse of The Day – 4-18-20

Romans 10:17 (NKJV) 17 So then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.

God’s word is what helps us to walk in faith. If we don’t have His word in us, the faith we have will be weak. We need to be constantly building it up by keeping His word fresh and new in us.

We’ve got to be hearing Him and what He is saying through His words. And in order to do this, we’ve got to make an effort to spend time reading it and soaking it up.

You know, like one of those books we enjoy and can wait to get home and read. All day we think about getting home so we can get back into it. That’s how the Bible needs to become for us.

It has to be THE book that has priority. The book that calls our name. The book that speaks to us even when we’d rather be doing something else.

Read its words. Stay connected, and we won’t get off track.

We will see change come to us and our situation as we begin to grow in our faith.

WE have to do it, though. No one else can grow our faith for us. Read, and read some more. Hear what it is that God is saying in His word. Take it to heart and enjoy it!!

This book was written for us. It’s our faith builder! Amen.

Bible Verse of The Day – 12-2-19

Psalm 119:105 (NKJV) 105 Your word is a lamp to my feet And a light to my path.

The world is dark.

That darkness can spill over into every aspect of our lives if we’re not careful. And before we know it, it will overtake us, dragging us downward a little at a time.

God’s word is a lamp to our feet. It gives light, cutting through the darkness, revealing things to us that we might otherwise not see. And some of these things could be very harmful to us if we were to encounter them without warning.

God’s word is also a light to our path.

So, not only does it illuminate our feet and the area immediately around them, but it shines ahead of us, lighting the way for us as we move forward, showing us the path that God would have us take.

Additionally, God’s word will illuminate us, from the inside out, when we feed on it regularly! And the light that emanates from us will shine on others, bringing His light into their dark world.

Set some things aside and spend time in His word. It’s more than just a book. It’s alive!

Hebrews 4:12 (NKJV) 12 For the word of God is living and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit, and of joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.

Bible Verse of The Day – 10-21-19

John 1:12-13 (NKJV) 12 But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, to those who believe in His name: 13 who were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God.

I recently saw a post on social media that mentioned the atonement offered through the blood of Christ. As I read this post, I knew right away that something wasn’t quite right about it.

The post mentioned the fact that Jesus offered Himself to the Father, not to us. It then went on to mention that there are many people today who speak about the atonement as though it is something that needs to be accepted by people before it can be applied to their lives.

It did so in a mocking kind of way, as if everyone who believes that we need to take action to receive the “benefits” of Christ’s atonement (salvation) is wrong. And that because Christ died, there is no need for further action on our part.

As I said, I knew right away that there was something terribly wrong with this statement. So, I pondered on it and asked God about it. I wanted to know how to address this sort of untruth, using God’s word.

He immediately reminded me of the scripture above, specifically where it mentions that to those who receive Him, He gives the right to become children of God.

That one verse completely nullifies what was said by the author of that statement.

There is much misinformation being passed around today. The internet makes it very easy for people to say things and have them propagated, without them being carefully scrutinized first. And this is how lies get passed along, and accepted as truth.

This is a perfect example of why we need to spend time in God’s word, learning it and getting it embedded into our spirits. Doing so will allow us to spot error right away, making it easier to avoid being deceived by anything that’s not accurate.

2 Timothy 2:15 (NKJV) 15 Be diligent to present yourself approved to God, a worker who does not need to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.

God is faithful to speak to us. We just have to make sure we’re listening.

Bible Verse of The Day – 1-29-19

Matthew 4:1 (NKJV) 1 Then Jesus was led up by the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted by the devil.

Jesus fasted for 40 days. And at the end of that time, the devil came to tempt Him.

Because Jesus hadn’t eaten for 40 days, the devil offered Jesus what he thought would be the most likely thing to get Him to fall; food.

Jesus rebuffed the devil, telling him that man doesn’t live by bread alone, but by the word of God.

Matthew 4:4 (NKJV) 4 But He answered and said, “It is written, ‘Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God.’ ”

The devil tempted Him again, taunting Him and encouraging Him to throw Himself off of the high place they were on, telling Jesus that God’s angels would surely protect Him if He decided to do so.

Again, Jesus countered the devil, telling him that we should not tempt God.

Matthew 4:7 (NKJV) 7 Jesus said to him, “It is written again, ‘You shall not tempt the Lord your God.’ ”

The third attempt, the devil took Jesus to a very high place. He showed Jesus great kingdoms of the world and all of their glory, telling Him that if He would bow down to him, all of this could be His.

Once again, Jesus rebuked the devil, telling him to leave, and reminding him that we shall worship and serve God, and only God.

Matthew 4:10 (NKJV) 10 Then Jesus said to him, “Away with you, Satan! For it is written, ‘You shall worship the Lord your God, and Him only you shall serve.’ ”

So, if Jesus, the Son of God relied on God’s word to rebuke the devil, how much more should we also rely on God’s word to defend ourselves from the wiles of the enemy?

How much more should we hide God’s word in our hearts to make sure we can stand strong when the pressure of temptation tries its hardest to drive us backwards and bring us to our knees?

Psalm 119:11 (NKJV) 11 Your word I have hidden in my heart, That I might not sin against You.

His word is a lamp to our feet and a light to our path. Let’s follow that light and stand strong in Him!

Psalm 119:105 (NKJV) 105 Your word is a lamp to my feet And a light to my path.
