Bible Verse of The Day – 3-25-24

Galatians 5:16-17 (NKJV) 16 I say then: Walk in the Spirit, and you shall not fulfill the lust of the flesh. 17 For the flesh lusts against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh; and these are contrary to one another, so that you do not do the things that you wish.

As followers of Christ, we should desire to live our lives in a way that is pleasing to God.

Our flesh has a way of trying to steer us in the wrong direction.

It will continually attempt to drive us back toward things that Christ has set us free from.

The Holy Spirit, on the other hand, will continually lead us to God, the giver of true freedom.

If someone is wrestling with addictions, the flesh will crave the thing we are addicted to. It will lead us into situations where we will be tempted, making it harder for us to break free from that addiction.

If we struggle with lust, the flesh will urge us to do things that satisfy our craving for anything sexual.

If we wrestle with lying, our flesh will prompt us to lie.

The enemy constantly attacks us, and our flesh seems to enjoy going along for the ride, rushing headlong toward destruction.

Rehabs and various programs can help to some extent. They can point us in the right direction.

But they can never truly set us free.

Conversely, The Holy Spirit breaks the chains of sin, setting us free permanently.

Yes, we must continue to choose what is right. And the enemy will still taunt us and attempt to lure us back in.

But if the Son sets us free, we are free indeed. Sin no longer has power over our flesh.

As we allow God to touch our hearts and renew our minds, the desire to chase after the things that destroy us will fade into the distance. And the grip that specific sins once had will be torn down, gone forever.

John 8:36 (NKJV) 36 Therefore if the Son makes you free, you shall be free indeed.

Let us fully surrender to the Holy Spirit, that He may make us free indeed.

Bible Verse of The Day – 3-22-24

2 Corinthians 5:14 (NKJV) 14 For the love of Christ compels us, because we judge thus: that if One died for all, then all died;

This is a great example of a verse where the depth of it can easily be missed if we fail to take the time to dig in and get understanding.

Paul states that the love of Christ compels him (and others), which is very straight forward.

The love that Christ exhibited by choosing to allow Himself to be crucified for each of us obligates us to share the truth of God’s love and the salvation found in Christ with others.

He then states, at the end of that verse (14), “because we judge thus: that if One died for all, then all died”.

If we fail to pay attention, we will breeze right past this part of verse 14, especially when we realize that it might take a few minutes’ worth of digging to get to its true meaning.

But let us look at it right now, so we understand what Paul is referring to.

Paul stated that One died for all, referring to Christ sacrificing His life for all of humanity.

Next, he states “then all died”.

This may seem confusing to some, so let us look more closely.

Based on the phrase, One died for all, the phrase “all died” is referring to all who place their faith in Christ symbolically dying and being raised to new life in Him.

Further, and just as importantly, it points to us dying to ourselves if we have chosen to follow Him.

Dying to ourselves is not a popular topic. Dying to ourselves requires a sacrifice on our part that many are not willing to make.

If we struggle with this, then we must seriously consider the price that Christ paid as payment for our own sins.

He paid the ultimate price. So, is it too much to ask that we also make sacrifices in our own lives?

Paul later penned these words, reinforcing the idea that we be willing to “put our money where our mouth is” and glorify God with our bodies.

1 Corinthians 6:20 (NKJV) 20 For you were bought at a price; therefore glorify God in your body and in your spirit, which are God’s.

And, lastly, he encourages believers to present their bodies as living sacrifices.

The question we need to ask ourselves is “will we?”

Will we take the necessary steps to sacrifice our preferences and put Him before our own wants?

Romans 12:1 (NKJV) 1 I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that you present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, which is your reasonable service.

Bible Verse of The Day – 1-2-24

Matthew 16:24 (NKJV) 24 Then Jesus said to His disciples, “If anyone desires to come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow Me.

Denying ourselves the things we want is not easy for anyone. The flesh likes what it likes.

Our call to move from RI to NC was a denying and a following decision.

We left all we knew. All our favorite spots in our hometown. All that we were familiar and comfortable with.

Most of our family was there. All our friends were there. And here we are in a place of complete unfamiliarity; new ground, following His steps for us. Following Him and whatever He wants of us.

You just never know when God will say, “it’s time to make a move”.

Some of us don’t even like the thought of changing things up, never mind actually doing it!

I understand. I am that person too. I like the comfort of knowing where things are.

When I am used to something being somewhere, I like that. I like my doctors, my dentist, my favorite café and restaurants. I like the places I’m used to doing business at. It feels good!

It’s not that we can’t find them all over again in a new place. It’s just a type of security and great comfort to know they are there.

I can say now, after being in this new place for almost 2 years, I am finally finding my footing again.

I have been stretched in ways I didn’t know I could even stretch, but only God knew. I am thanking Him today, He has us.

I encourage you today if you are being prompted to make a move.

It doesn’t have to be the same move that we had to make. But any move in any area of your life where God is saying, “let go and follow Me”.

Be sure to not try and do it on our own. Ask God to go before you, and follow Him all the way through it.

You will have your moments, and you will mourn those things you no longer have.

Denying ourselves and following Him comes at a price!

Yes, I miss those people and places I left, but I am where I need to be. And I am truly at peace with that. I have learned that peace is better than comfort.

Being comforted or comfortable only lasts a short time, until the next uncomfortable thing shows up. But having peace will guide our hearts and minds, helping us get through anything we must withstand. I’ll take peace, thank you!

Philippians 4:7 (NKJV) 7 and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.

Amen.

Bible Verse of The Day – 11-26-22

Romans 8:8 (NKJV) 8 Those who are in the realm of the flesh cannot please God.

Many times, living the life of a believer, we need to tell our flesh, “No”!

The flesh will often make us think everything is wrong, nothing is going right.

We have to remind it of the good things. The things that we have been blessed with! The things which we have, but for some reason we have overlooked, moving on to the one thing we may think we are missing out on.

It can drive us to the point where we feel depressed and without.

The flesh will quickly forget the things that God has blessed us with. It likes to immediately move on to the next thing.

It doesn’t like to stay in one place for too long. As soon as it gets what it wants in one area of our life, it will move on to the next desire it craves.

It wants at all times, moving from one agenda to the next to be fed constantly.

The flesh can be very needy, demanding and selfish. It wants what it wants always. And it wants it NOW!

How do we fix it? How do we slow it down? How do we keep it in its place?

We tell it, “no”, by making it submit to the word of God and what He says.

WE stop it from crying and looking at the things it doesn’t have, and we open its eyes, teaching it to be content with what it does have.

We have to be firm with our flesh and not let it get the best of us. The flesh should never drive us. We need to stay in control of it.

If we are feeling this depression set in at times, we need to shut that flesh down and let the Spirit of God take over.

We cannot please Him when we let the flesh drive us.

Bible Verse of The Day – 10-8-22

1 Corinthians 15:31 (NKJV) 31 I affirm, by the boasting in you which I have in Christ Jesus our Lord, I die daily.

As I have been recently praying and asking God to show me how we can have contentment and stability in our walk with Him no matter what is going on around us, He brought me to this verse.

As Paul says, “I die daily”.

How do we do this? How do we die daily?

By stripping our flesh of its worldly desires, embracing the desires that the Lord would have for us, and shutting down the very thing that comes between us and God, which most times is our own selfish ambitions.

As a believer, we will learn that letting go is a big part of dying daily.

This involves letting go of routines and allowing change on every level.

It sounds like a lot, but Paul was serious about this. It has to be part of our walk if we want the path He has for us.

If we think about it, we really are not losing much. His eternal life outweighs anything that we may have to let go of here on earth.

Dying daily to our flesh sounds painfully disturbing. However, the results of it will bring a very focused and beautiful walk with our most precious Savior and Heavenly Father! Amen.
