Bible Verse of The Day – 1-23-26

1 Chronicles 28:20 (LSB) 20 Then David said to his son Solomon, “Be strong and courageous, and act; do not fear nor be dismayed, for Yahweh God, my God, is with you. He will not fail you nor forsake you until all the work for the service of the house of Yahweh is completed.

Sometimes when facing difficult situations, we need to take action.

We often tend to think that all we need to do is to pray and wait for God to fix whatever problem we are up against.

But many times, He will show us things to do; steps to walk out.

David spoke the words in the opening scripture to Solomon regarding building the temple of God.

Take note that he not only told Solomon to be strong and courageous, but also to act!

Being strong and courageous is often required when tackling large or daunting tasks. It is not enough to simply pray and ask God for help while we sit back and wait for Him to fix our problems.

Make no mistake. This doesn’t mean that God doesn’t help us. It simply means that as God helps us, He may also require us to take specific steps as part of that process.

Many times, these steps require not just courage, but active faith on our part. For without faith, we cannot walk out what God shows us.

The word of God tells us in Hebrews 11:6 that without faith it is impossible to please God.

And we will see over time that without faith it is also impossible to walk the path that God places before us.

It takes faith to put into action the steps that God instructs us to take.

It also requires courage on our part. But this is not ordinary human courage. It is courage given by the Holy Spirit.

Sometimes that courage doesn’t look quite the way we might picture it. We may still feel afraid. If that’s the case, we begin to move even while afraid. And God will give us what it takes to complete it even while being afraid.

So, be strong, be courageous in the Holy Spirit. And act when God says to.

And by His leading, as we walk out whatever He requires, we will begin to see the solutions to our problems, and the answers to our prayers begin to unfold.

Bible Verse of The Day – 1-5-26

James 2:19 (NLT) 19 You say you have faith, for you believe that there is one God. Good for you! Even the demons believe this, and they tremble in terror.

In our lifetimes we will come across many people who say they believe in God.

And those same people will believe in their hearts that they will enter into God’s kingdom when they depart from this earth at the time of their physical death.

In fact, you will likely encounter more people of this mindset than those who admit that they don’t know whether they will enter into heaven or not.

The sad truth is that the vast majority of those who claim to believe in God and feel confident in their eternal security in heaven will not enter in.

Why?

Jesus spoke these words about the large number of people who choose the wide, easy road in life.

Matthew 7:13-14 (LSB) 13 “Enter through the narrow gate; for the gate is wide and the way is broad that leads to destruction, and there are many who enter through it. 14 For the gate is narrow and the way is constricted that leads to life, and there are few who find it.

And He also stated this:

Matthew 7:22-23 (NKJV) 22 Many will say to Me in that day, ‘Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in Your name, cast out demons in Your name, and done many wonders in Your name?’ 23 And then I will declare to them, ‘I never knew you; depart from Me, you who practice lawlessness!

You see, it is one thing to say that we believe. It is yet another to obey God to prove our faith.

Yes. Obey.

Even the demons believe that there is one God. And they tremble because of this truth. But they do not obey God.

So it is with people. We can believe in God. But do we obey God?

Obeying is what sets true children of God apart from those who think they are saved but have no foundation.

These may sound like harsh and judgmental words. But look at what John wrote.

1 John 2:3 (LSB) 3 And by this we know that we have come to know Him, if we keep His commandments.

John was speaking about more than just obeying the Ten Commandments”. He was referring to obeying God’s word as a whole.

This is not obedience based on rituals or rote mechanics.

It is obedience based on a sincere love for God that pricks our conscience and causes that love to make us want to obey Him, not just go through the motions.

So, we ask this question today.

Do we believe in God, or do we obey Him?

The difference between the two means life or death for eternity.

Bible Verse of The Day – 11-4-25

Ezekiel 1:3 (NKJV) 3 the word of the Lord came expressly to Ezekiel the priest, the son of Buzi, in the land of the Chaldeans by the River Chebar; and the hand of the Lord was upon him there.

God still speaks to His children today.

Sometimes He does so through His word. Other times while in prayer, and also through dreams and visions.

The prophet Ezekiel heard and saw God through a vision, and His actual audible voice was heard.

The hand of the Lord, meaning God’s Spirit, came upon Ezekiel in a revelation. It was very strong and clear.

Ezekiel found himself for 7 days after the vision just overwhelmed and astonished as a result of his encounter with God.

Ezekiel 3:15 (NKJV) 15 Then I came to the captives at Tel Abib, who dwelt by the River Chebar; and I sat where they sat and remained there astonished among them seven days.

God explained things to Ezekiel in detail and He gave him specific instructions.

God will use us if we are willing to obey Him, and He will guide us in every step He has us take.

Sometimes His tasks are very uncomfortable. They can be difficult and beyond what we ever thought or wanted to do.

Isaiah 50:7 (NKJV) 7 “For the Lord God will help Me; Therefore I will not be disgraced; Therefore I have set My face like a flint, And I know that I will not be ashamed.

We must set our face like a flint, obey Him, and give Him 100% of our attention and focus!

Let the hand of the Lord come upon you. Amen.

Bible Verse of The Day – 10-2-25

Matthew 1:18 (NKJV) 18 Now the birth of Jesus Christ was as follows: After His mother Mary was betrothed to Joseph, before they came together, she was found with child of the Holy Spirit.

Now hold on. Look at this verse. It says, before Joseph and Mary came together, she was with child. By whom?

The Holy Spirit!

If this doesn’t open our eyes and show us how miraculous God is, then I don’t know what will!

Mary was impregnated by the Holy Spirit. How? Through obedience and agreement.

Mary said to the angel, “let it be according to your word!”

Luke 1:38 (NKJV) 38 Then Mary said, “Behold the maidservant of the Lord! Let it be to me according to your word.” And the angel departed from her.

A woman carried our Savior in her womb, knowing it was the seed of the Holy Spirit. Now that’s mind blowing.

But this is the God we serve.

If we would learn to line up with Him, and let Him do what He wants to do through us, oh the things we would witness!

When God wants to use you, agree with Him, and obey what He has you do. Step by step, He will lead us in doing the unimaginable.

Bible Verse of The Day – 8-2-25

Matthew 5:43-44 (NKJV) 43 “You have heard that it was said, ‘You shall love your neighbor and hate your enemy.’ 44  But I say to you, love your enemies, bless those who curse you, do good to those who hate you, and pray for those who spitefully use you and persecute you

Honestly, when I became a believer, this verse was hard for me.

I was raised in a home where we went to Sunday School and church services.

Sometimes there would be revival meetings. And there were VBS camps in the summertime that Mom and Dad would have us attend. Many times they would be held at our home, in our yard, etc.

But as I was growing up, these verses were definitely opposite what I was used to.

When I would hear these verses in church I’d think, “why should we have to be good to those who aren’t good to us or to others?”

When I was a child growing up, we didn’t let people get away with mistreating us. We dealt with them. It was in our blood, so to speak.

I had 6 brothers who were strong fighters, and no one messed with us.

They trained me up to take care of myself, and we just didn’t let people get away with mistreating, abusing or speaking down to us or any of our friends.

We didn’t go looking for it, but if we needed to protect, we would.

But as I grew in Christ, the Holy Spirit began to move in and through me more freely. That’s when I would get convicted at times, feeling awful if I reacted in this way toward someone that had done me wrong.

Soon I learned that it was not God’s way for me to think that I had the right to get people back for what they had done.

This is not how I was trained to think. I had to be re-taught.

I needed to let the Holy Spirit guide me and retrain me in this area.

The Holy Spirit is our Helper, and boy do we need Him at times to take those reigns and teach us right from wrong.

John 14:26 (NKJV) 26 But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, He will teach you all things, and bring to your remembrance all things that I said to you.

Our natural reactions toward a situation may not be exactly what He would like them to be.

Let Him help us.

Bible Verse of The Day – 7-14-25

Numbers 14:4 (LSB) 4 So they said to one another, “Let us appoint a leader and return to Egypt.”

I have never been to Egypt. But recently I felt compelled to go back there; back to a place I have never been.

Let me explain.

A little over 3 ½ years ago, at God’s prompting, we moved from RI to NC.

We didn’t know exactly why we were to move. We just knew it was so.

And we obeyed, selling most of what we owned, packing up what little remained, and driving 750 miles to our new home in a place we did not know.

We had lived in RI for a long time. In fact, Pastor Ellie was born there in the town where we lived. It was her forever home.

For me, I had lived there since 1975; more than 45 years.

We had built our lives together right there in the smallest state, in a tiny town.

And then we left. We pulled out of our garage at 3:50 AM one morning and never looked back.

We knew it was a big move. But we didn’t comprehend how big. In fact, it would take a long time until we truly comprehended the magnitude of what we did.

In building our lives there, our roots had grown very deep.

We had created a way of life that involved people, places, and activities; things we were intimately familiar with and very comfortable doing.

It is safe to say we have many great memories there.

So, as we settled into our new place in NC, we went through a variety of emotions; joy, excitement, sorrow, loneliness, and a feeling of great loss.

Leaving behind those 40+ years’ worth of familiarity left a gaping hole in us in ways that we had not foreseen.

Even now, after more than 3 ½ years, I have struggled with this from time to time.

And recently, I almost went back to Egypt, to do some of the things I was so intimately familiar with.

The door was opened for me. But I chose not to go back.

I recognized it for what it was; a step backwards to try to hold onto what was gone.

I have shared this, not to draw attention to myself, or to solicit sympathy.

I shared it with the hope that it might help someone who is wrestling with the same thing; facing the same struggle.

Don’t go back to Egypt. It’s not worth it. Doing so only prolongs the struggle. And it puts the chains back on us that God broke for us when He told us to leave where we had grown so comfortable.

Leave Egypt where it is; in the past. And look only forward to what God is doing in the new land that He has brought you to.

Bible Verse of The Day – 7-11-25

Luke 6:45 (LSB) 45 The good man out of the good treasure of his heart brings forth what is good; and the evil man out of the evil treasure brings forth what is evil. For his mouth speaks from the abundance of his heart.

Here we are, and it’s already Friday!

Let’s talk again today about the human heart ❤️

No, this is not about ventricles, chambers, or aortae. It is about the condition of our heart, where everything that we do emanates from.

What is described in the Bible as the heart is symbolic. It represents our soul, our will, and the mechanism by which we make decisions.

We choose right or wrong based on the condition of what the Bible refers to as our heart.

Despite it being symbolic, and not at all related to the physical muscle that pumps blood throughout our bodies, this concept is critical in our daily lives.

It is a truth that is far-reaching, with implications in every aspect of life.

We can do things to protect our physical heart; eat right, exercise, etc.

But when it comes to the mechanism by which we make choices, there is no amount of proper diet or physical exercise that can help it obey God and make right choices.

The only thing that can help us in that area is to love God and immerse ourselves in His word.

As mentioned previously, it is our love for God that causes us to obey Him and want to honor Him with our lives.

And that love and reverence for Him will not grow if we fail (or refuse) to spend time in His word.

Yes, we have free will. We can choose what to do or not do. We can read and study His word, or we can choose not to.

But our lives will reflect our choices even in this. And our relationship with God will grow or stay small and weak based on what we choose.

Let us choose to love God above all else, that we would honor Him with every action we take, letting His light and His love shine through us onto everyone and everything around us.

Amen
