Bible Verse of The Day – 4-17-24

Mark 15:39 (NKJV) 39 So when the centurion, who stood opposite Him, saw that He cried out like this and breathed His last, he said, “Truly this Man was the Son of God!”

Who is Jesus?

There are three things about Him we would like to look at over the next three days.

As we do this, it should give us all a better, more complete understanding of who Jesus is. And this should give us a deeper appreciation for Him and what He did for us.

First, let us look at Him from a “big picture perspective” so we can better understand Him in a broad sense.

Who is Jesus in this larger sense?

The word of God says He is the Son of God, born of a virgin.

Luke 1:35 (NKJV) 35 And the angel answered and said to her, “The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Highest will overshadow you; therefore, also, that Holy One who is to be born will be called the Son of God.

According to John 1:1, He has existed for all eternity, and He is God.

John 1:2 reaffirms His eternal existence.

John 1:3 goes on to tell us that everything we see was made through Him. He was co-Creator, alongside the Father and the Holy Spirit.

John 1:1-3 (NKJV) 1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2 He was in the beginning with God. 3 All things were made through Him, and without Him nothing was made that was made.

He is not simply a good man or a prophet.

He is God in the flesh, who lived and walked among humanity.

John 1:14 (NKJV) 14 And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we beheld His glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth.

Why did He come to walk among us?

To live a perfect, sinless life. And to give His life as a sacrifice for the sins of all of mankind.

With that established, we will continue this tomorrow.

Bible Verse of The Day – 9-18-23

Isaiah 53:1-2 (NKJV) 1 Who has believed our report? And to whom has the arm of the Lord been revealed? 2 For He shall grow up before Him as a tender plant, And as a root out of dry ground. He has no form or comeliness; And when we see Him, There is no beauty that we should desire Him.

God clearly knows how to expose the hearts of people.

In this ancient prophecy, Isaiah predicted that the coming Messiah would have “no form or comeliness” and He would possess no “beauty that we should desire Him”.

First, let’s clarify what that means.

Having no “form” implies that He would have no “stately form”; nothing royal, no kingly pomp.

Lacking “comeliness” implies that He would arrive without great splendor or fanfare that was easily noticed or beheld. His birth and arrival would not be noticed by those who failed to discern the spiritual seasons and events of that time.

It is important to note that His birth was clearly announced by the shining of the bright star leading people to Bethlehem (Matthew 2:1-2). But few noticed it.

The end of verse 2 states that there is “no beauty that we should desire Him”.

Jesus did not adorn Himself in majestic robes, fancy jewels, or expensive clothing. Nothing about His physical appearance would draw people to Him or cause them to desire (honor or worship) Him.

His true identity would be seen only by those with spiritual discernment that allowed them to see. Even then, it would require great courage to hold onto that conviction as pressure mounted from the religious leaders to disregard Him and label Him as a false prophet and a blasphemer.

In the end, He changed the hearts of many who heard Him and saw Him move in ways that only God in the flesh could have done.

But I often ponder this question; if I had lived in those days, would I have recognized Him, the Redeemer, Immanuel, God with us?

Or would I have been among the crowd of people who rejected Him based on peer pressure and false accusations, shouting “crucify Him”?

I thank God that I have found Him, and I know Him through the blood of Christ who offered me salvation, and for the leading of His Spirit, who showed me truth that has set me free.

Amen

Bible Verse of The Day – 10-6-22

John 14:6 (NKJV) 6 Jesus said to him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.

Who is Jesus?

What does the word of God say about this question? Let’s take a look!

According to the verse above, He is the way, the truth and the life.

He is the Word.

John 1:1 (NKJV) 1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.

He is God with us.

Matthew 1:23 “Behold, the virgin shall be with child, and bear a Son, and they shall call His name Immanuel,” which is translated, “God with us.”

He is the Son of God.

Matthew 14:33 (NKJV) 33 Then those who were in the boat came and worshiped Him, saying, “Truly You are the Son of God.”

He is the visible image of the invisible God!

Colossians 1:15 (NLT) 15 Christ is the visible image of the invisible God. He existed before anything was created and is supreme over all creation…

He is eternal, and is the “glue” that holds everything together.

Colossians 1:17 (NKJV) 17 And He is before all things, and in Him all things consist.

The New Living Translation (NLT) makes it a bit clearer.

Colossians 1:17 (NLT) 17 He existed before anything else, and he holds all creation together.

*On a side note, be aware that the NLT does NOT capitalize the first letter when using the word, “he”, when referring to God or to Christ. This is one of the faults that I find with many of the more modern translations. But sometimes their wording is clearer and more easily understood, so I occasionally use it for that reason.

He is the Messiah (the Christ).

John 4:25-26 (NKJV) 25 The woman said to Him, “I know that Messiah is coming” (who is called Christ). “When He comes, He will tell us all things.” 26 Jesus said to her, “I who speak to you am He.”

In this short list, it’s easy to see who Jesus is. And these few verses are just a tiny bit of what there is to know.

But having even this small amount of understanding is reassuring, and it helps to build our faith in Him.

So, take this knowledge and arm yourself with it. Hold it tightly and let God grow it like a seed in your spirit, allowing you to nurture it, feed it and bear fruit from it by the Spirit of God working in your life.

For He is the eternal God who came in the flesh and walked the earth among us.

John 8:58 (NKJV) 58 Jesus said to them, “Most assuredly, I say to you, before Abraham was, I AM.”

Bible Verse of The Day – 9-28-22

John 3:34 (NKJV) 34 For He whom God has sent speaks the words of God, for God does not give the Spirit by measure.

John the Baptist had a unique way of speaking. He was not swayed by anyone who tried to influence or intimidate him.

And when he spoke truth, he spoke it boldly. God had prepared him to be a force to be reckoned with.

In the verse above, he spoke a truth that caught my attention. And I will admit that I had never seen this before today.

In this verse, he was not referring to himself, but about Jesus; the One whom God had sent.

Let’s take a closer look at it.

John started out by stating, “For He whom God has sent speaks the words of God”.

He wanted others to know that when Jesus spoke, He was speaking the words of God.

Jesus Himself stated more than once that His words were not His own, but the words of the Father.

John 12:49 (NKJV) 49 For I have not spoken on My own authority; but the Father who sent Me gave Me a command, what I should say and what I should speak.

But take note of what John said toward the end of the verse; “God does not give the Spirit by measure”.

This means that Jesus was given the fulness of the Holy Spirit, not just a measure of it.

The Father wanted Him to be fully, amply equipped for the task He had ahead of Him, not lacking anything.

And it is evident that He absolutely was fully equipped when we look at His life and the things He carried out while He was here on earth.

Jesus was God and man, rolled into one; the only human to ever walk perfectly His entire life.

Bible Verse of The Day – 7-27-22

Isaiah 53:12 (NKJV) 12 Therefore I will divide Him a portion with the great, And He shall divide the spoil with the strong, Because He poured out His soul unto death, And He was numbered with the transgressors, And He bore the sin of many, And made intercession for the transgressors.

The 53rd chapter of Isaiah is an incredible group of prophecies regarding Jesus (the coming Messiah) that are greatly detailed.

They are so detailed, in fact, that there is no way any man could have predicted these things based on human knowledge, understanding, or by guessing.

The events recorded in the New Testament proved every one of these prophecies to be 100% accurate.

This particular group of verses speaks of the fact that Jesus was looked down upon by the very people He would ultimately die for.

One part mentions that “He was numbered with the transgressors”.

Another translation (NLT) says “He was counted among the rebels” (those who rebelled against the Law).

Despite the hatred that was demonstrated and carried out against Him, He willingly laid down His life, with no resistance whatsoever.

He forsook His own human will to do the will of the Father, even to the point of death on a cross, which was considered by the Jews to be a curse.

Galatians 3:13 (NKJV) 13 Christ has redeemed us from the curse of the law, having become a curse for us (for it is written, “Cursed is everyone who hangs on a tree”),

It is virtually impossible for us to ever completely comprehend what He went through for us. The struggle with His own human desires to live were clearly weighing on Him as the time for His crucifixion drew near.

The pain and torment He experienced as they whipped, beat and hung Him on the cross were all endured solely to pay the price for the sins that you and I committed. It was not for anything He had done; He was perfect and spotless.

Yet He did it voluntarily, putting the will of the Father before His own will.

This is Jesus; the One who laid down His life for humanity, offering us redemption and life eternal. Whether we accept His offer is up to us.

Will you accept it?

Bible Verse of The Day – 7-15-22

Luke 8:24-25 (NKJV) 24 And they came to Him and awoke Him, saying, “Master, Master, we are perishing!” Then He arose and rebuked the wind and the raging of the water. And they ceased, and there was a calm. 25 But He said to them, “Where is your faith?” And they were afraid, and marveled, saying to one another, “Who can this be? For He commands even the winds and water, and they obey Him!”

Most of us are probably familiar with this group of scriptures where the disciples were afraid that their boat would sink and they would all die.

They woke Jesus and He rebuked the storm, and all was well.

That’s what usually gets focused on when we read this or when someone shares it with us.

But take a look at what happened right after that.

The Bible says, “And they were afraid”.

Other translations worded it a bit more aptly, like this one; (NLT) “The disciples were terrified”.

The Amplified Bible says, “And they were seized with alarm and profound and reverent dread”.

It’s safe to say that what they saw shook them up pretty seriously.

These were men who had spent much time with Jesus. They heard Him speak and teach. They saw Him heal and deliver. They heard Him rebuke the religious leaders.

They understood that he was someone special. But what they saw that night in the boat really jolted them awake regarding the reality of Who this was that they were following; the earthly, human manifestation of almighty God, the Creator of heaven and earth.

They were sharing a boat with Immanuel, God with us!

It was at that moment that they saw beyond the flesh and bone, and they recognized for the very first time what God was doing.

That moment forever changed them. They could no longer look at Jesus as a mere man who happened to be a good teacher or a powerful prophet. Those days were now gone.

And so, let us also do the same. Let us not look at Jesus solely as a good man who gave His life for us.

He is so much more than that. He is Immanuel, the Lion of Judah, The King of kings and Lord of lords.

Let us live as though we had been in that very boat to see Him rebuke the storm ourselves. Amen

Bible Verse of The Day – 5-28-22

John 2:11 (NKJV) 11 This beginning of signs Jesus did in Cana of Galilee, and manifested His glory; and His disciples believed in Him.

What took place? Jesus’ very first miracle.

He and His disciples were at a wedding. Jesus’ mom told Him that they were out of wine (John 2:3-4). Jesus replied, “what does this concern of yours have to do with Me, My hour has not yet come”.

But His mother told the servants, “whatever He tells you to do, do it”.

So, Jesus told them to take the water pots and fill them with water. And so, they did. There were 6 of them that held 20 – 30 gallons each.

And when they filled them to the brim, they drew some out and took it to the master of the feast. The master said to the bridegroom, “everyone else brings out the good wine first, but you have saved the best for last”.

This was Jesus’ first miracle, in Cana of Galilee. He manifested His glory before them, and the disciples believed!

How awesome it must have been to experience such a thing.

It can be very hard to wrap our heads around Jesus and try to comprehend Who He really is.

It’s hard to understand the love and the mission He had, to serve us and save us from ourselves. To help us see and believe in our hearts that He is Who He says He is; the Messiah, and Lord Jesus Christ!

Acts 16:31 (NKJV) 31 So they said, “Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and you will be saved, you and your household.”

May the eyes of our hearts be open and see the glory of God, through the things Jesus has done for us, that we would believe in Him!

Amen.

Bible Verse of The Day – 5-24-22

Mark 4:41 (NKJV) 41 And they feared exceedingly, and said to one another, “Who can this be, that even the wind and the sea obey Him!”

As a follower of Christ, I am constantly in awe at God and His wonders.

There are often times when I have trouble coming up with words for what I feel when I ponder on Him and who He is, especially when I consider the fact that He chose to save me and now dwells inside of me through the Holy Spirit.

It is mind-blowing, to say the least.

Now, let’s picture the disciples of Jesus as they began fearing for their lives while waves are coming over the sides of the boat.

They were truly in a life-or-death situation as the boat they were in was at risk of sinking.

And as they fretted over their situation, Jesus, the Messiah, the King of kings and Lord of lords, lay asleep in that same boat, unmoved by the commotion.

As things worsened and they began to understand that they were in imminent danger of sinking, they woke Jesus in a desperate plea for His help.

Jesus arose, rebuked the wind and sea. The wind ceased and there was a great calm.

This seemed to scare the disciples more than the wind and waves, as they asked each other, “Who can this be, that even the wind and the sea obey Him?”.

This is Jesus, our Savior. The One who chose to take our place on the cross of Calvary and die for you and for me.

This is Jesus, the son of God, who came to walk the earth in human form, that we might know Him and that he could show us the Father through Him.

And this is Jesus, The Way, The Truth and The Life.

This is the One we follow and cling to with faith and hope for salvation. For in Him alone is life eternal.

Amen.

Bible Verse of The Day – 10-12-21

Matthew 16:13 (NKJV) 13 When Jesus came into the region of Caesarea Philippi, He asked His disciples, saying, “Who do men say that I, the Son of Man, am?

The disciples spoke up and said, “some say John the Baptist, some Elijah, and others Jeremiah or one of the prophets”.

Jesus then said, “who do you say that I am?”.

Simon Peter spoke right up and said, “You are the Christ, the Son of the living God”.

Matthew 16:15 (NKJV) 15 He said to them, “But who do you say that I am?

You have here two different answers.

You have the first answer, from the intellectual mind, that could only relate to what it sees on its own; John the Baptist, Elijah, Jeremiah or a prophet.

Then, you have the second answer that only God can reveal through the Holy Spirit; The Christ, the Son of the living God.

Jesus told Peter, “blessed are you, for flesh and blood did not reveal this to you, but My Father who is in heaven”.

He also told Peter that on that rock He will build His church, and the gates of hell will not prevail against it.

What rock will He build His church on? The truth that was revealed to Peter by the Spirit of God.

When Peter gave his answer, it showed that he was tuned into hearing the Holy Spirit.

This marked a turning point, and Jesus began to teach them about the things He must suffer, including His death on the cross and then His resurrection.

Matthew 16:21 (NKJV) 21 From that time Jesus began to show to His disciples that He must go to Jerusalem, and suffer many things from the elders and chief priests and scribes, and be killed, and be raised the third day.

Jesus was now able to move forward and take the next steps toward His purpose here on earth.

As we stay open and connected with the Holy Spirit, He will give us wisdom, knowledge and understanding deep within ourselves; something the mind can never get on its own.

We teach frequently about drawing close to God. This is the very reason for that; so we can have His understanding on all things.

Don’t be afraid of the Holy Spirit. He is our Helper.

John 14:26 (NKJV) 26 But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, He will teach you all things, and bring to your remembrance all things that I said to you.

Bible Verse of The Day – 1-19-21

John 8:19 (NKJV) 19 Then they said to Him, “Where is Your Father?” Jesus answered, “You know neither Me nor My Father. If you had known Me, you would have known My Father also.” If you know Me, you would know the Father.

Jesus let the people know that they didn’t know Him the way they should.

They didn’t believe in Him and Who His Father said He was; the only begotten Son, sent from Heaven, the Messiah, and Savior of the world.

It’s sad to think that they were so far off. Jesus said it like this:

Matthew 7:23 (NKJV) 23 And then I will declare to them, ‘I never knew you; depart from Me, you who practice lawlessness!’

I never knew you. We don’t want these words to ever sit on our heads.

Getting to know Jesus takes an effort on our part, to want to know and learn of Him, not just intellectually, but personally.

We need to follow Him, letting His light guide us.

When He leads us, we have sharp discernment, our understanding is quick and we are focused.

Every step we make means something and there is great accomplishment and a peace about it all.

John 8:12 (NKJV) 12 Then Jesus spoke to them again, saying, “I am the light of the world. He who follows Me shall not walk-in darkness, but have the light of life.”

Why should we be in darkness when Jesus says that if we follow Him, we will have the light of life?

I don’t know about you, but I want the light of life not only living in me, but flourishing in me!

Light is good. Know Jesus and you will know our Father. Walking with them is better than we could ever have it on our own. They are our life!

Job 33:4 (NKJV) 4 The Spirit of God has made me, And the breath of the Almighty gives me life.

Take a step in knowing Jesus today in a more intimate and deeper way.

Start by opening the book of John. Just read a little at a time and let Him reveal Himself to you. Ask the Holy Spirit to Help take you to a deeper relationship with Him.

Be diligent in giving Him time to reveal Himself to you throughout your daily routine. And keep your eyes and ears open. He is faithful to come alive in our daily walk as we give Him the freedom to move.
