Tag: What the Bible says about breakthroughs

Bible Verse of The Day – 12-14-18

Philippians 4:19 (NKJV) 19 And my God shall supply all your need according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus.

Many of us are asking God for a financial breakthrough. It seems to be the biggest thing that most of us ask Him for.

Sometimes we ask because there is a genuine need. Other times, not so much. We ask because we want something more than we need that particular something.

Either way, though, we ask and we wait expectantly.

Many times, after we have asked, we wait and we wait. And we wait some more. And it can sometimes seem like our petition is falling on deaf ears. The “breakthrough” doesn’t come. Our prayer goes unanswered.

Or does it?

In reality, here’s what happens many times. We ask God for a blessing or breakthrough, usually with a specific sum of money in mind. Then we watch and wait for that sum to show up.

Maybe we’re looking for a check of unknown origin to show up in the mail. Maybe we look for a raise or a bonus at work.

Whatever it is that we look for, we always seem to attach some type of mysterious aura to it. We expect it to be a large lump sum of money that just appears out of nowhere.

And, while we’re waiting, money comes in and goes back out. It passes through our hands without us giving it a second thought. Why? Because it doesn’t match that figure that we have stuck in our heads.

Sadly, as we watch that money come and go, we fail to recognize that much of it could very well be little pieces of the blessing that we have asked God for. We just fail to recognize it as such because it isn’t coming in a large lump sum in the exact amount we asked for.

Instead, we see smaller amounts over a period of time. They don’t catch our attention because of their size.

And, if we’re not careful, we squander it on things other than what God intended it for because of the failure to recognize it.

It’s incredibly important that we learn to recognize the blessings of God, even when they don’t show up wrapped in the package we were expecting. Failure to do so means missing out on so many of His blessings.

So, if we are asking God for something, whether a financial blessing or any other kind of blessing, we need to be vigilant and discerning to recognize the things that God sends our way, and then diligent to handle them in the way He wants us to.

Bible Verse of The Day – 12-1-14

Joshua 18:3 (NKJV) 3 Then Joshua said to the children of Israel: “How long will you neglect to go and possess the land which the Lord God of your fathers has given you?

Go and possess the land.

What does that mean, exactly, to possess the land?

Possess: 1. to have or hold. 2. to seize and take control of. 3. to enter into and control firmly

To possess something implies and requires action on the part of the possessor.

Somehow, over the last several decades, or maybe even longer, the church has fallen into believing that God owes us something.

We have bought the terrible lie that says all we have to do is ask, and God will magically drop abundance into our laps.

We pray and ask God for breakthroughs but most of us have no idea what is required of us to have that breakthrough. So we just expect it to “fall from the sky”, and no work or effort will be required of us.

God took the Israelites out of Egypt and promised them a new land. He provided a way out of slavery, led them across the Red Sea and provided for their every need, guiding and directing them right up to the border of that promised land.

But then He told them to “go in and posses the land”. Go take it. Conquer the people there and make it your own. Work for it. I’ve led you here and carried you up until now. But now it’s your turn to labor!

So where are we at today? Are we standing at the edge of our promised land? Has God led us through the wilderness and now we’re just sitting down, praying for a breakthrough and waiting for it to fall into our laps?

No more, people of God! It’s time for us to rise up and possess the land that God has set before each of us?

What is your promised land? What is the breakthrough that you’ve been praying for? Are we so used to God providing for our every need that we are failing to take action and finish what He started?

It’s a new week. It’s time to rise up and go in and posses the land that God has led us to.

Possess the land, people of God. Possess the land!
