Tag: What the Bible says about helping others

Bible Verse of The Day – 12-30-25

1 Corinthians 12:28 (NKJV) 28 And God has appointed these in the church: first apostles, second prophets, third teachers, after that miracles, then gifts of healings, helps, administrations, varieties of tongues.

And God has appointed these in the church.

But today, let’s look at one that is probably the least desired; the gift that everyone wants to leave for others to do.

Helps.

This gift has been given to the church. How do we walk in such a gift? By the leading of the Holy Spirit.

He will guide us in our gift of helps. He will guide us as to who to help, when to help, and how to help.

This gift is crucial and frequently overlooked. There are so many who are suffering and hurting in this world. Help is needed everywhere, in every place, and at any moment.

It’s needed to be functioning within, and outside of, the church.

How do we help?

Luke 10:33-35 (NKJV) 33 But a certain Samaritan, as he journeyed, came where he was. And when he saw him, he had compassion. 34 So he went to him and bandaged his wounds, pouring on oil and wine; and he set him on his own animal, brought him to an inn, and took care of him. 35 On the next day, when he departed, he took out two denarii, gave them to the innkeeper, and said to him, ‘Take care of him; and whatever more you spend, when I come again, I will repay you.’

This is a perfect example of the gift of helps.

When we see a need, we must see through the eyes of Jesus and let Him move us with His compassion.

Then we cry out to Him for guidance as to how to help. We care for them in the way that the Holy Spirit guides us. We go the extra mile. We don’t think about it; we just do what He leads us to do in that moment.

His guidance in the gift of helps is very much needed and will keep us balanced in all that we do. Remember that as we do whatever it is, it is all for the glory of God!

Amen 🙏

Bible Verse of The Day – 12-27-25

Ephesians 2:10 (NKJV) 10 For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them.

As we recently celebrated Thanksgiving Day here in America, I got up early to prepare my turkey and side dishes.

After dinner I rested and ended up falling asleep. Naps after Thanksgiving dinner are the best!

When I woke up from my nap, my next door neighbors were on my heart. I felt like God wanted me to bring them over some food.

They are an older couple, in their 80’s, and I think of them frequently, especially if they have been sick or are having health complications.

But today was different. I didn’t know if they needed anything.

God literally put them on my heart. And I had a million excuses as to why I shouldn’t bring a dish over to them. But I did it anyway.

They were very grateful and couldn’t thank us enough for thinking of them on this day. God is so good! He always knows what others need.

What caught my attention the most about this was that we should never think that everyone is OK just because of what we see on the surface, or what we may know about them.

We must listen to that still small voice that speaks to our spirit.

Obey it; we can’t try to talk ourselves out of doing good things for people just because we can’t see the need from our own perspective.

Whether it’s a hot meal or just checking in on someone, whatever God puts on our hearts, we shouldn’t question it or reason it away.

Do what He is asking us to do; it touches the lives of others and shows His love through our actions. We represent Him every day we are alive. When people see our good works, they see Him!

1 Corinthians 12:27 (NKJV) 27 Now you are the body of Christ, and members individually.

Who has He laid on your heart today?

Bible Verse of The Day – 5-31-25

Psalm 34:17 (NKJV) 17 The righteous cry out, and the Lord hears, And delivers them out of all their troubles.

Many times, helping others can be an inconvenience for us.

It can take up our time, when we could be getting other things done. It can take away from something we might rather be doing.

It can even throw us off our routine or schedule, causing us to become aggravated or frustrated throughout the day.

We all feel this at times. We are not perfect, and we probably get frustrated even with ourselves for feeling like this.

But let’s face it; we are human and sometimes we just get tired. Then we start thinking, “let so and so do it, they never help, they always get out of it.”

I remember a time when I was in “helping mode season.” I love helping, but it was starting to get to me. I was getting tired and burned out from it all. So my attitude started to change and I was overwhelmed with the amount of help I was giving out.

I prayed to God, “please bring in some help for me. I’m tired and my attitude is changing toward the person/people that I’m helping, and I don’t want to take it out on them. It’s not their fault.”

He heard my cry and delivered me from that situation.

God showed me that it was OK to rest. It was OK to trust Him to bring in the right person or people to help.

And I learned a big lesson; don’t wait until you get to the point of feeling burned out.

Ask Him for help, and He will provide.

He is faithful!

Bible Verse of The Day – 3-18-25

1 Corinthians 13:4-5 (NKJV) 4 Love suffers long and is kind; love does not envy; love does not parade itself, is not puffed up; 5 does not behave rudely, does not seek its own, is not provoked, thinks no evil…

Being kind is something we all must practice every day, even when we are focused on getting something done. Taking a few minutes to stop and show kindness is good for us.

Just the other day, we were out for a bike ride. As we zoomed past an elderly woman, we happened to notice that the trunk of her car was open, so we yelled to ask her, “do you need any help?”

As we passed by, we heard her say something but couldn’t make out what it was, so we quickly went back to see what it was.

To our surprise, she said, “yes!”

We parked our bikes and went to meet her. Unbeknownst to us, we learned she had just had hand surgery.  And was in much need of help carrying her groceries.

You just never know how God wants to use you to hug on someone.

We helped carry in her groceries and spent a few minutes chatting with her. We left her our phone number to call if she needed any other help in the future.

Kindness has many ways of showing itself. We just need to be ready to let it loose when God opens that door.

Back on our bikes we went, with our hearts feeling grateful and happy we could exercise some love and kindness.

Praise be to God!

Bible Verse of The Day – 12-3-22

Matthew 11:28-29 (NKJV) 28 Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. 29 Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.

Freeing up our lives for Him, and staying free, is a job in itself.

How many are like me? You care so much that you fill yourself with the problems of others by taking them on like they are our own.

Oh, praise God, I’m talking to some people out there today, and I’m right there with you.

I know how you feel because I myself am going through this very thing.

How do we live this life of helping others, but not overdo it?

We may ask, “why would something so good hurt us or even be a concern?”.

It’s the heaviness of it that wears us down and takes our energy, time and, most importantly, all our focus.

This is my fight. It’s a struggle.

I cried out to Him, and He is teaching me where I am off; where I need to make adjustments, and how to get free from my own self and the guilt I carry at times because I feel like I can’t do enough.

Understanding comes when we go to Him with it, and we let Him counsel us.

He says, “come to Me!”.

The balance is in leaving my cares and concerns with Him. And then my part is to rest my soul by trusting that He’s got it!

We can keep ourselves on a wrong and busy road by forgetting to take these steps.

Lord God, help us to free ourselves up for You, and take up Your yoke, that we may find rest. Amen.

Bible Verse of The Day – 10-25-22

Philippians 2:4 (NKJV) 4 Let each of you look out not only for his own interests, but also for the interests of others.

We need to look out for ourselves for sure. But it doesn’t stop there. The church needs to consider the wellbeing of others too.

We, as believers in Christ individually, make up the church. So, on a personal level we need to make this adjustment in our daily lives and routines.

If we know a brother and sister in Christ who is in need, we must reach out and help them as much as we can.

The Holy Spirit will guide us as to how we can assist them. He will give us wisdom in letting us know what will work best for both of us.

We cannot continue to live selfishly, or with a conceited attitude, as a believer in Christ. This is not the right behavior to have. Instead, we need to consider others more important than ourselves.

It is something that will come as we draw near to God and grow as a believer. We will learn to live unselfishly.

Our hearts will be more willing to give than to receive. It will become more natural to see a need and want to help.

Acts 20:35 (NKJV) 35 I have shown you in every way, by laboring like this, that you must support the weak. And remember the words of the Lord Jesus, that He said, ‘It is more blessed to give than to receive.’ ”

Bible Verse of The Day – 6-18-22

Proverbs 19:17 (NKJV) 17 Whoever is kind to the poor lends to the Lord, and he will reward them for what they have done.

Wow!

When we help others and do kind things for those in need, we are actually lending to the Lord. How many of us knew this?

Being God’s children, we think it would be natural to give. For some it is, but for others they struggle.

Where do we stand in this? Are we willing to let go and help others?

This scripture says that when we do, we are lending to the Lord.

So, I guess we shouldn’t think about who or what it is for, but make sure we are listening to the Lord as to whether we should or should not, how much, and what the timing should be.

I can’t even imagine that I would ever be lending to the Lord. Everything I have is what He has blessed me with. He is so good.

So, the next time we see or hear of a situation where there is a need, go for it! Because not only are we obeying, but much more than that, we are giving back to our Lord.

What a beautiful opportunity!

Luke 6:38 (NKJV) 38 Give, and it will be given to you. A good measure, pressed down, shaken together and running over, will be poured into your lap. For with the measure you use, it will be measured to you.”

Bible Verse of The Day – 3-29-22

Deuteronomy 22:4 (NKJV) 4 “You shall not see your brother’s donkey or his ox fall down along the road, and hide yourself from them; you shall surely help him lift them up again.

Helping our brothers is something God commands us to do. It’s not an option. He counts on us to help them.

We are His hands and feet, He uses us to lift each other up.

One way of helping someone is by using our experience from  what we have already been through.

Our trials are a huge lesson to us. The knowledge we gained from them can also be a tool to use to help others.

Don’t get discouraged today if you are going through a hard situation. God will get you through it when you trust Him. And what you’re going through now will give you an opportunity to help someone else as well.

The best feeling in the world is coming out the other end of a trial and then helping our brothers/sisters that are going through the same thing.

Being a part of lifting them up and seeing them move forward is better than a raise, a promotion, or any feeling that a material thing can offer.

What a satisfying, fulfilling, and completed feeling to see someone advance in their situation. Nothing can beat that.

Go through it. And then take it a step further and let God use your experience to help others. Amen.

Bible Verse of The Day – 3-26-22

1 Corinthians 12:28 (NKJV) 28 And God has appointed these in the church: first apostles, second prophets, third teachers, after that miracles, then gifts of healings, helps, administrations, varieties of tongues.

Today we want to talk about the gift of “helps”. Yes, it’s real! And many of us have it and don’t realize it.

Sometimes we struggle with how to help people; what to say, how to say it, or what to do and when to do it.

Do our ears perk up when we hear about a need or problem? Do we find ourselves crying out in prayer for someone that we don’t personally know?

Many times I find myself going to God and asking Him if I am neglecting anyone. Part of my personality is to see things resolved. I love to see happy endings, and if I can be a part of it, it makes my day!

It’s pretty much what makes me happy and what I live for.

I love helping people, and when I can’t or it’s out of my hands, I find it very difficult.

Knowing my help comes from God, even in this I have to reach out for Him to bring clarity. Why God, why? Why do I have to wait, or why do I have to pull back?

If you are like me (with the same personality type), if I could say one thing to you today, it would be this; “God knows. And He will let us know when, how and where to let our gift of helps be used”.

Don’t get discouraged if right now you are not able to help that situation, person, etc.

It’s not that you don’t want to. God knows you’re willing. Remember, it’s His to see through and for us to be ready when He says go.

Sometimes, because we love to help so much, if we are not careful we can interfere with what He is doing.

Let Him guide us in the gift of helping others, and trust Him to let us know the timing and the how of it all.

I’m giving Him the glory today, even as He sets me straight at times! God knows I need it.

Bible Verse of The Day – 12-16-21

Matthew 25:35 (NKJV) 35 for I was hungry and you gave Me food; I was thirsty and you gave Me drink; I was a stranger and you took Me in

Giving of ourselves for others touches the heart of our Father in Heaven. When we do this, it’s just as if we are doing it for Him.

Ask ourselves today, are we ready and available to help someone? Can we give where there is a need?

Or are we waiting for someone else to step up to the plate? Do we turn a blind eye to the needs around us?

As we open our hearts to be ready and willing to do whatever it takes, God will bring those situations around us where we can make a difference.

Are we ready to make a difference? Are we ready to give of ourselves and our finances when needed, to support, encourage, and uplift those things or people God puts before us?

We’re not saying we have to help everyone or in every situation; just in those that He tugs on our hearts for.

Matthew 25:40 (NKJV) 40 And the King will answer and say to them, ‘Assuredly, I say to you, inasmuch as you did it to one of the least of these My brethren, you did it to Me.’

Stay aware of those people or situations that tug on our hearts. Take part in whatever way we feel led. For when we do, we are doing it unto Him.

Bible Verse of The Day – 5-6-21

Philippians 2:3 (NKJV) 3 Let nothing be done through selfish ambition or conceit, but in lowliness of mind let each esteem others better than himself.

One of the greatest things that I have witnessed in my own personal life is, when going through difficulty or a hard situation, not to be afraid to find someone we can help, even as we face our own difficulties.

Putting someone else before ourselves does wonders. I believe it brings healing in its own way.

I can remember at different times, when things I’d never expected hit home, it was finding someone else that needed help that got me through my own hardship.

It helped me to keep going and to not give up. It helped me to see brighter days. It helped me to laugh and cry in the storm. It was good for me.

Don’t get me wrong; we need to have some time for ourselves, to talk and to get things out. But we also need to be able to laugh, sing and dance again.

Nothing in this world can defeat us if we have Christ and His joy!

Nehemiah 8:10 (NKJV) 10 Then he said to them, “Go your way, eat the fat, drink the sweet, and send portions to those for whom nothing is prepared; for this day is holy to our Lord. Do not sorrow, for the joy of the Lord is your strength.”

Some of us are sorrowing over what has happened to us. We want what we lost back. So, we are pouting, angry and bitter toward everything.

But that’s not going to change reality.

It’s going to destroy what we have left if we don’t stop and accept the fact that “it is what it is”, and move on.

You say to me, “but you can’t say that”. I say, “Yes. I need to say it, and I did! The joy of the Lord is our strength”.

Believe me, it’s not easy. But we need to be strong in letting the joy back in.

It’s a choice.

Are we going to just stop living or are we going to get up, trust Him with our situation and help someone else with theirs?

Proverbs 11:25 (NKJV) 25 The generous soul will be made rich, And he who waters will also be watered himself.

Be generous, even in our hardship. Help someone today. Amen.
